Chapter 230

Tom sat across from Edie at the bistro-size table in the corner of the living room. Between the two of them they almost finished a large pizza. Edie left the last pieces for him. He admired her beautiful face and wanted to kiss her all over. He wasn't ready for her to leave and go back to her place, either. He liked her here. she made his nondescript apartment a home. And then a lightbulb went off in his head.

He thought about the idea a bit and decided to dive right in and ask. "Edie."

"Yes, lover boy," she sang.

Tom couldn't help but laugh with her parroting a scene from Dirty Dancing. "I've been thinking."

"Uh-oh. I'm in trouble." Edie looked away, resettling in the chair.

"No, listen. This place is not a home to me, either. There's nothing personal of mine here. But when you're here, you light up the room. Your cute giggles bounce off the empty walls. You make it a home for me. Are you with me so far?"

"Yup, I follow you."
