Madeline’s POV

The night was deep, and the breeze was cold. The wind rustled through the trees while I was seated on the giant tree’s roots, curled into a ball, with my eyes stinging from tears.

My hands were covering my ears, trying to block out the voices that followed me wherever I went. I was gifted, with a hearing heightened than average werewolves. But growing up, it's more of a curse than a gift.

I could hear from miles away the whispers of blame, resentment, and hatred coming from my pack members and my family. The scrutiny they have over me… All the while, all they had for Amanda was sweet praises.

Madeline’s POVMy hand held the knob of his office door tightly as all sorts of emotions fought within me, overwhelming my entire being. As I twist it, I am ready to step out and prepare for what’s more to come. With how he had sounded, I’d say having him kick me out like what I wanted would be a miracle, and letting me stay without making my life a living hell would be something ot be grateful about already.“You’ll stay in the pack.”My eyes widened, and my body froze right at the doorway.Did I hear him right? He wanted me to stay? What kind of punishment would he want me to face, though? He’s Alpha Keiran, and I’m at the Demonmaw Nightwalker Pack. They're the boogeyman parents who used the past three years for their pups. I knew his madness would get the best of him, and look at me with prejudice.I knew to myself that I didn’t kill Luna. I was just there at the wrong time and the wrong place. On the other hand, my trying to save Francine was what caused my Mom’s death. But I’m not

Madeline’s POV“You’ve been staring at them for ten minutes now. Thinking about joining?”Right after eating, we stood at the corner of the training field, watching the others spar in pairs. I was lazily staring at the front while Helena was sipping water from her bottle, giving me side-eyes every now and then.My eyes landed on Jaxon, who was sparing quite aggressively with his partner while giving me quick glances. “I’d rather not add more fuel to the fire.”It’s my break anyway. I’m not obligated to join the training.Helena grinned, turning to her side to face me. “Smart choice. Jaxon’s still sore about losing to you. If you step on that field, he’ll make sure you regret it.”I snickered and rolled my eyes. “He’s not exactly subtle about it.”She shook her head but snorted a little in understanding. “Well, it wasn’t really his best suit.”Silence enveloped us for a little while, but I could feel her staring at me, studying my reactions. “You’re still thinking about earlier, aren’t

Madeline’s POVChill ran through my spine at his question. Were they? Were those people from the palace? Did they already know about me hiding in here? But if there’s one pack the palace was cautious about, it would be this pack. There’s no way they’d be foolish enough to have the palace warriors round up this pack, much less send a spy in here. Were they?“I… I don’t know…” I replied instead. Madeline’s POVMy hands trembled beside me as I took long strides in the hallway, rushing towards who knew where. I let the pull of the bond follow my mate’s intoxicating scent, which made my wolf and me go crazy. It’s my 18th birthday. I expected to find my fated mate soon, but not this soon. It turned out he had always been around me.I should have been happy, ecstatic even… but I couldn’t help but feel the threatening tears in the corner of my eyes as I felt exactly who it was and where this hallway was leading me.With heavy breathing, I halted in front of a massive wooden door with engravement on it, feeling rejected even before I could see his face. With my hands holding the cold knob of my twin sister’s bedroom door, I heard muffled voices inside. Mixed with my sister, Amanda, was the voice of that man I thought I’d be with even before the mate bond told me he was my fated mate.“You need to reject her, Felix! She’s nothing compared to me. You know that.”My heart stopped cold

Because you sure didn’t seem to have a problem with that when you promised Amanda, you’ll reject me tomorrow!”Guilt glinted in his eyes. Looking around in worry, he gritted his teeth, frustratedly saying, “I… I didn't know… they’d try to–”“She’s over there!” His words were cut off by a loud, furious voice, followed by several pairs of footsteps rushing in my direction. My breathing hitched.Looking at Felix with disbelief, I asked, “You lured t

Keiran’s POVThe sight of that scar really fueled the burning fire within me, and I momentarily lost control of myself. How could I do that in front of my pack? More importantly, in front of the trainees. After storming off, I went straight to my office, slamming the door right as I entered.“She’s lying!” Brax growled.Shaking my head, I grabbed my swivel chair and opened my locked drawer, pulling out a picture frame from the inside. It’s a photo of me and Francine when we got married. “I don’t know, Brax… Maybe she really doesn’t remember.”He let out a snarl. “You saw the way she panicked. She’s hiding something.”“

My mother’s frantic shouts and the metallic scent of blood in the air. “Maddie! No!”That was my mother’s scream befo
