Lana was busy in the back room, putting more sweet rolls on the trays that would go into the display case up front. Mondays were always busy for them. The morning had flown by. It was her and Tina manning the shop and they had both been hopping around like crazy. Lana’s stomach growled, reminding her she had missed lunch. She would be off soon and was already planning what she was going to make for dinner.

It was getting close to that afternoon rush, which left little time to eat as they prepared for the next influx of customers. Restaurants got busy at lunch and coffee shops got busy at the universal two o’clock hour when adults were feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders in serious need of a coffee fix. She loved giving these people that walked in like zombies a nice pick-me-up.

The moment the caffeine hit their veins they perked up and immediately seemed much friendlier. Than it was the moms picking up the kids from school and bribing them with sweet pastries before th

He was hoping to suprise her. They hadn’t spoken to each other since early this morning and he was already missing the sound of her voice. He pulled his little red Audi in the back lot behind the bakery and strolled around the front, whistling as he moved down the sidewalk in front of the building. He remembered the first time he saw her. Her back had been to him, but there had been something about her that drew him in. His heart skipped a beat as he pulled open the door and walked inside. Immediately, he felt something was off. There was a woman rushing for the door as if the hounds of hell were chasing her. He looked up and saw no one standing behind the counter nor did he see Lana's back as she made specialty drinks. He heard shouting and a commotion coming from behind the counter. He quickly moved towards the area, finding a woman pointing towards the kitchen doorway. Adrenaline fueled by the fear of something happening to Lana had him rushing through the open door to find Danny

Lana was barely holding it together. The female police officer seemed kind and understanding, but no one was really listening to her. She’d told the same story at least twenty times, but Xyrus's still in the back of the car. Tina had called the manager who was on his way in. Lana had a feeling that was going to be an unpleasant encounter as well.“You’ve got a minute,” the female officer said.“No way, I’m taking him in,” the male officer said, standing near the car where Xyrus was being held.“Back off Jason, you heard the statements,” the female shot back.“She can say whatever she wants. I walked in and saw this guy beating the shit out of the guy on the floor,” he replied, sneering at Lana. Lana glared back at him. She was tired of explaining herself and knew it was futile. The officer opened the door and stepped out of the way.“I’m so sorry,” she blurted out, the second she saw him.He smiled. “It’s okay. It’s all going to be okay.”She shook her head. “No, it’s not. Thi

Xyrus was pissed. Beyond pissed. He was furious. He was still stuck inside a holding cell in some bullshit limbo. He wasn’t officially in jail, but he wasn’t free to go. He didn’t know what the hell was going on, but he had a feeling Danny was behind it. He’d had to sleep on a hard bench with three other guys that looked like they wanted to eat him for breakfast. He looked down at his knuckles. They were bruised and swollen. He smiled. They hurt, but it was all worth it. He would slam his fist into Dan's face again and again. “What are you smiling about, pretty boy?” one of his cellmates asked. Xy looked up to see a bald man that probably weighed about three-hundred pounds glaring at him. The man had a tattoo of a knife on his neck, making him appear even more menacing. “I’m not smiling at anyone or anything,” Xyrus retorted. The giant stepped forward. Xyrus stood up. He wasn’t going to be intimidated. He’d probably get his ass kicked, but he wasn’t going to back down from anyone.

She walked into the police department and demanded to speak to someone in charge. Of course, she was essentially laughed at. She made her case again, demanding someone talk with her about Xyrus’s case. She was asked to wait and after thirty minutes, she was finally escorted to a desk in an open area. “How can I help you?” a desk cop asked. Lana did her best not to lose her cool. She hadn’t slept all night and was ready to scream at the injustice over what was happening to Xy. “You can help me by telling me why my boyfriend is locked up for saving my life and the man that was trying to hurt me is out free,” she said in a cool voice. The cop, smirked. “Miss, do you know how many times a day we hear this exact story?”Lana leaned forward, a dangerous smiled on her lips. “No, I don’t know what you’ve heard, but I can testify to my story and that’s the one I’m here to talk about. I don’t care about anyone else or what their stories are.”“Okay, so what can I do for you?” he asked.

Xyrus's cell mate looked B hungry and cranky. It wasn’t a good combination. He wasn’t sure he was going to be able to fight them off should they attack. He’d chosen not to eat the slop they tried to serve for dinner or breakfast and was feeling a little shaky. His lack of food combined with no sleep left him vulnerable. He had a feeling he’d end up in the infirmary or the morgue if someone didn’t show up soon.“Ashington," a guard called out his name.Xyrus moved his head, not bothering to get up. “What?”“You’re out of here.”That got him moving. He stood and walked to the cell, trying his best to play it cool, not wanting to look too excited. The guard opened the cell and led him down a corridor where he was given his personal property back. He didn’t bother checking to see if it was all there. He signed the paper and made his escape to freedom. When he stepped into the lobby, he saw Akira immediately. She jumped up and raced towards him, followed by what he assumed was his

It had been quiet since the day at the bakery.Lana was cautiously optimistic that her estranged husband had finally realized she had someone in her life willing to fight for her. She wasn’t so easy to attack and abuse now. At least, that’s what she hoped was happening. She’d taken it upon herself to start stalking him, reversing the tables a little. She checked the court dockets daily, called his office to see if he was in using payphones to avoid her number being traced. It seemed like Danny had gone back to his life without missing a beat. She’d even gotten brave enough to call his cell phone on one occasion. When he answered, she used a fake accent and pretended to have dialed the wrong number. He was back in California and that was the best news she had ever heard. Danny hadn’t pressed the issue of having Xyrus charged for assault, which initially alarmed Lana at she assumed it would be more of an embarrassment.Danny prided himself on being a big tough guy and to have got

Their afternoon delight had left him feeling very content. They were lying in her bed, no sheets to cover their nudity. He was comfortable in his own skin, but found women tended to be a little more modest. Lana had been at first, but the signing of the divorce papers had released her inner wild woman. He noticed the difference in the way she walked, holding her head high, with her shoulders back. He was glad to be a part of the change and hoped to continue to support her as she put Danny behind her. He wasn’t naïve enough to think she would suddenly be over it. There had to be long-term side effects to the abuse she endured. It would take time for her to stop looking over her shoulder all the time and to truly feel as if she could settle down and relax. “Thank you,” she said, her warm breath brushing over his chest. He grinned. “Did you seriously just thank me for sex? Because if you did, you’re welcome, but a thank you isn’t necessary. It is I who should be thanking you.”Her

Lana Reign Buena Ford took a deep breath, inhaling the fresh, and slightly chilly air through her nose. She smiled. She was alive and on her way to being divorced from her abusive husband. Danny Buena Ford thought she was too afraid to actually do it. He thought he could keep her scared and under his thumb, but she had proven him wrong and she planned to stand her ground. He wasn’t going to bully her into changing her mind about the divorce. It was as good as done in her mind. She turned to smile at the man walking beside her as they headed towards the stairs that would take them to her second-floor apartment. “You look happy,” Xyrus said, leaning down to kiss her nose. “I am happy. Thank you so much for everything. Without you, I could have never done this,” she said, climbing the stairs. “I’m glad you agreed to take Laura’s help. She is an excellent attorney. Your asshole husband has met his match with her,” he grumbled. She giggled softly as she nodded her head in agreem

Lana felt his warm body next to her and smiled. His heavy leg was draped across hers as he softly breathed in and out, his long eyelashes resting against his face as he slept. She stared at him for a while, admiring his handsomeness. The jaw stubble was already making an appearance on his face, giving him the rough, sexy look that she adored. He had made it a habit not to shave on the weekends, which she thoroughly appreciated. Living with him had taken a little getting used to, but now she could never imagine her life any other way. When Xyrus had asked her to move in, she had been hesitant at first. She was worried they were rushing into things. It seemed like it was too soon, but then after thinking about it and talking it over with Tina, she realized there was no hard and fast rule about when it was the right time. She felt it and he felt it and that was all that mattered. They’d been living together for a month and every day when she woke up, she got to see him. That was the bes

They were able getting to double date with Wind and Akira. His friends were supposed to be going to some charity event, but Wind had bailed at the last minute, more interested in a night out as a foursome than sitting in some stuffy ballroom wearing a tux. Since they’d had so much fun at the bar the last time they all went out, they had all voted to go back again.Akira and Xyrus returned from their bathroom visit and sat down at the table. Xyrus loved that they were becoming friends. They were very different in many ways, but they were part of his circle. They helped balance him, each of his close-knit group of friends bringing a little something different to the table.“Ahhh!” Lana screamed, throwing her hands into the air when the first few twangs on the guitar filled the bar.“What’s wrong?” Xyrus asked, looking around the crowded room.“I love this song!” she screamed, acting like a teenager at a rock concert, swaying her arms back and forth, her loose hair hanging down her back

Danny was walking straight for her, a murderous look in his eyes. If she was smart, she would run. She didn’t run. Instead, she threw her shoulders back and defiantly stared back at him. She wasn’t going to back down, not when she had made so much progress to shut him down. Xyrus was beside her in a flash, his arm around her shoulders, facing off against Danny right alongside her.Laura and a few of the other attorneys were standing nearby. The tension in the room was palpable. Danny’s anger was practically radiating off of him as they faced off in the hall. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she realized she might get hurt. Danny might get a punch in before Xyrus could stop him. She had accepted the risk and was willing to take a hit if it meant there would be witnesses that could finally back up her story. Danny would be held accountable for his actions—finally.“If you ever call me, call my job, show up at my place or show your face in my presence ever again, I will destroy you,” s

Her palms were sweaty, and her stomach felt like it was filled with a million butterflies as she did her best to control her nerves. She couldn’t let Danny know he had her on edge. Her plan hinged on her being the one in control. It was important to turn the tables on him, let him know she was not afraid and would not run anymore. She glanced behind her, looking out the windows of the conference room to see Xyrus and Laura talking. They were conspiring to separate Danny from his lawyers. She couldn’t present her evidence if there were attorneys in the room. That would ruin the upper hand she wanted to hold onto for as long as possible. Her plan hinged on only her knowing about Danny’s illegal activities. Lana closed her eyes, inhaled and tried to relax. When she moved her hands away from the smooth table, she noticed palm prints left behind. She wiped her hands on the pantsuit she was wearing and prayed Danny showed up soon before she lost her nerve. She heard voices and turned t

He closed the laptop and powered down his office computer before standing up, righting his suit and grabbing his wallet from his desk drawer. It was a good day. The week was off to a great start and he had finally caught up on all the work that had been piling up since the day Lana had disappeared. It had been a little embarrassing to realize how badly he had let things slide as he focused all his time and energy on finding Lana. Now that she was back and determined to stay, he was able to focus on his company. He was already planning on extravagant gifts to be delivered to his management team that had picked up the slack. He had a whole new lease on life and had a little extra spunk as he looked forward to what he hoped was a very promising future with Lana.“I’m headed out,” he said, stopping at Akira’s desk.“Tell Wind I said hi,” she said with a smile.Xyrus chuckled. “I will. • The Runaway Girl and The Billionaire   Girlfriend Day!

It felt good to wake up in her own bed, in her own place. Although it was nice to wake up with Xyrus, she had been longing for her bedroom and all the little things she had left behind. When she had been on the run, she had nothing special with her. She had picked up nothing and taken nothing. That had all changed in Taguig. She had enjoyed little shopping sprees at the secondhand stores picking up cool little things that helped her personalize her home. When she’d left, everything had stayed behind. She opened her eyes and rolled to her side, grabbing her phone off her bedside table and finding a text from Xyrus. He was always so thoughtful, wishing her a good morning and a good night every day when they weren’t together. She had missed him when she was gone; far more than she had even thought she would. Her next order of business was to grovel at Tina’s feet and beg for forgiveness. She’d been completely horrible as a friend and she wanted to make it up to one of the only friends

Somewhere deep inside, he was holding his breath. It wasn’t a literal holding of his breath, but more of his brain waiting to hear what she had to say. He knew what he wanted her to say and was sure after their warm welcome it was the most obvious thing to say, but he didn’t know for sure. She was looking at him, but not talking.“What is it sweetheart?” he asked, gently swiping her mussed hair from her face. She looked hot and sexy and better than any magazine centerfold he had ever seen. Her cheeks were flushed, her lips red and swollen from the intense kissing and her hair looked as if she had been standing inside a tornado. She took sexy seductress to an entirely new level.“I’m sorry I left without saying a word. I should have told you,” she started, and he felt his heart sink. It wasn’t what he thought it would be and definitely not what he wanted to hear.“It’s okay, I understand you were doing what you thought you had to. I need you to know I am here for you. She knew he would never hurt her and she wanted him to know how much she cared for him. Leaving him had been a horrible thing to do. Making it up to him was her new mission. She wanted to show him how much she wanted him in her life.“My turn,” she said, her voice thick with desire.“Let’s go in my room,” he said, kissing the side of her neck. She shook her head. “Not yet.”In a flash, she dropped to her knees on the cold marble floor, yanking his sweats down his body.
