They were like thieves in the night. Chan brought the truck around to the back street of the house and they hopped on then Chan drove away. He was heading towards the sea, he too was worried about his friends, if only he could follow them then he would and help them take back what was theirs. Unfortunately, he was only human and could not breathe in the water as they can.
He felt envious that they could live both on land and in the water. When he got close to the ocean, he could not help but resent it. This place was his friends’ home but at that moment it felt like he was taking them to their deaths.
At the back of the truck, Zane and Nazima could smell the ocean and the fear in their hearts increased. This was it, there was no turning back now. The truck came to a stop, and they waited for Chan to tell them it was safe to come out. Chan on the other hand was prolonging the inevitable.
Finally, he got out of the truck and went to tell them it was safe. They said their goodbyes one last time before the two got into the water. The moment their bodies encountered the sea water they transformed into their natural form. The Naga’s, snake people, the ones with the human upper body and snake bottom.
Chan could not believe it when he saw them, he smiled and said, “May the gods be with you.” They smiled back at him and waved before they dived deep into the water and swam away. Nazima could not believe how she looked in her true form. Her tail was longer and stronger. She felt stronger now that she was in the water, it was like the water was giving her more power. It was the sea creatures can recognize her, and they swam around her. She laughed happily, but her laugh soon turned into a frown as she remembered the slaughter of her people.
She shook her head to remove those happy thoughts from her mind, this was not a happy homecoming. She had a mission in mind and that was to free her people and take back the throne. Not to be smiling around like a kid when her people were being treated like slaves and killed by the Mer king, Caleb.
They swam deeper into the water and the deeper they swam the colder the temperature became. It was like the sea could tell that more tragedy was coming. They could also feel that they were getting close. They spotted the first of the Merpeople and Nazima did not hesitate, and she brutally killed them before they could register what was going on. Zane looked at her amazed, but he was afraid if they were not careful. The king’s guards will soon hear of the killings and capture them, and this will all be for nothing.
The Merpeople were swimming around in the water oblivious of what was coming. They have been living like royalty all these years with no problems from their slaves the Naga people. None of them would have thought that a Naga could rule the water again. That is why most of the Merpeople Nazima and Zane killed did not pay them any mind until it was too late. They saw them as nothing but slaves.
What a big mistake they made. Throughout the night Nazima and Zane killed many of the Merpeople for the king to notice. By morning, one of his patrolling guards came to him in a hurry and bowed when he got to him. “Speak!” Caleb was easily irritable, and he did not like being disturbed for no reason. “My king, we have found many of our people dead this morning while on patrol.” The guard reported and Caleb sneered.
“So? What if more of the Naga people died? They mean nothing to us.” Answered Caleb with no care in the world, the Naga people were not his people, and he was not going to concern himself with them. When the guard would not leave Caleb got irritated and held him by the throat. “You came here to advocate for those slaves!” the guard trembled in fear.
Caleb was not a merciful king, and his people knew that. The man killed his father when he was only fifteen and has been ruling the water ever since. “No..my...king. those are Mer people’s bodies we found.” The poor guard spoke with so much difficulty. Caleb released his throat and looked at him with murderous eyes. “Tell me again what you just said.” He demanded.
“The bodies we saw were of our kind, my king. They are Merpeople.” Caleb flew into a fit of rage and killed the guard. “You are all fucking useless!” he roared in anger as he squeezed the life out of the guard. “How can our kind be killed like that?” he asked no one in particular as he threw the body of the guard aside. “Find me the one who is responsible for this.” He commanded and his guards swam away in a hurry to carry out the king’s orders.
Just as they left the elders came in, the elders were made of the elders of the varied species in the water, the Fish, the Sea Horses, and more. Only the Nagas were not represented as they were nothing but slaves. “My king, we have heard reports of the killings.” One elder spoke. “We are worried my king; we have never seen something like this since years ago with the Nagas. do you think they have risen to take back what is theirs?”
The elder should not have said that as Caleb was in front of him within a blink of an eye and had him by the throat. “What is theirs? Everything here is mine! I am your king; I rule the water and there will be no other king in the water but me!” he shouted at the else while he squeezed his neck. Another elder spoke up trying to stop him. “You are right, you are our king, but what are we supposed to think when your kind are the ones slaughtered like that? They were slaughtered in the most brutal way and the exact same way they slaughtered the Nagas.”
The elder sighed with his voice softening. “My king, such brutal killings can only be done by your kind, now is there someone who is against you and would want to do something like this in retaliation?” asked the elder. Caleb loosened his hold on the throat of the elder. “My king, we are not wrong to suspect the Nagas as well, they do have a vendetta against you.” Caleb stopped choking the elder and moved away from him.
“It can only be a Merperson who is doing something like this, remember the Nagas are only our slaves and they do not do violence. It is not in their nature and that is why we killed them so easily those many years ago.” Caleb did not want to believe that weak people like the Nagas could do something like this. “I still think we should still look into them.” One elder said.
“You do it then and report back what you find.” The elder nodded receiving the king’s command. “The rest of you should investigate this matter closely, I want this person found and brought to me alive. I want to make an example of him and show everyone never to even think of crossing me.” Caleb ordered. The elders bowed, and they left the king fuming with anger. He swore he would kill whoever that person was.
Soon the water was filled with guards looking for the perpetrator. Nazima and Zane watched as they swam around looking for them. “It has begun,” Zane said, he knew there was no turning back from this. He wished the prince Nazim were the one here with him today and not the princess. Maybe if it were him here, then he would not be this afraid of losing him.
“Abandon whatever thoughts you might have now Zane, this is for my father, my brother, and our clan.” Zane looked at the princess and could not help but wonder what kind of queen she will be when all this is over. She was supposed to marry and have kids. Not carry her father’s trident killing Mer people trying to save her people, her kind, the Nagas. “To the death then my princess.” Said Zane.
This was a fight to the death, theirs, or the Mer peoples. either way, someone was going to die. “To the death,” said Nazima with a determined voice. Gone was the fear and now only determination remained.
“Don’t be useless, find me the one who is challenging me!” king Caleb was angry, he was paranoid and believed that one of his own people was trying to overthrow him and take over the throne. He was angrier because more bodies turned up this morning and still his people had no idea who was targeting him. It was like he was back twelve years ago when he was the one doing all the killing of the Naga people on his father’s orders to dethrone the Naga king. Now someone was doing the same to him and he wanted to know who he is so that he can teach him a lesson for all to see. He wanted everyone to see what he will do to that person so that they never try something like that with him again. If only his people can find him! Losing the throne scared him more than losing his life.King Caleb could not have that, no one could take the throne away from him. He has worked hard to get to where he was, and he was not about to let someone else take what he believed was his. It was funny because the t
The guards did not recognize the princess when they saw her. They just saw another Naga trying to retaliate against the king. “Let’s kill her and bring her head to the king” one guard suggested. “If you want your head to decorate the king’s lair then you can go ahead and kill her.” King Caleb was ruthless and enjoys killing his enemies with his own bare hands. Killing this Naga woman and denying the king the pleasure would be a mistake. The guard thought about it and knew they were right. The way Caleb was angry he would kill him for depriving him the chance to make an example of this damn woman. “We take her to the king.” Said the guard and they swam with her taking her to the king. When they arrived king Caleb was already waiting and when he saw she was a Naga, he got angry and charged towards her.Nazima was not looking at Caleb this whole time, she had her head down and her hair covering her face. “A bloody slave did this?” roared Caleb in anger, he felt disrespected by this. No o
Caleb listened to her declaration but said nothing, he knew who she was the moment he saw that trident. He walked away without saying a word. The generals were left there shocked after the revelation. The Crab general had a small smile playing on his lips. This was good, exceptionally good. This meant change was coming and he could not wait.“Well, isn’t this something?” He said looking at his fellow generals, they seemed to have lost their voices after the princess spoke. The Crab general walked forward and bowed to Nazima. “Your Majesty, it is good to have you back. We thought they had killed you just like your father and brother.” Nazima looked at the old general in front of her.She did not know if she could trust him or not. “I am sorry to disappoint you king, but I am back, and things are about to change around here.” She said with so much confidence. She might have been captured but at least Zane was not, and she knew he was going to do everything he could to free her. “Do not
When Zane was on his way back to look for the princess, he saw two of the king’s guards coming his way and he hit. He waited for them and heard them talk about how they could not believe it was a Naga woman who was killing the Merpeople. They spoke about how they could not wait to see what the king was going to do to the treacherous slave.Zane was angry but he knew that he could not help the princess alone, he needed help and fast. He waited for the guards to leave before he swam away going to look for the slave camp, he heard the previous ones talking about. When they met him, they asked him what he was doing that side of the territory and why he left the slave camp.Zane knew they didn’t recognise him as the former king’s personal guard. He fought them and killed them before going to look for the princess and now hearing of her capture. He could only think of one place that was horrible enough for the king to put the Naga people. The one place in their territory with no fish to eat
General Fisher could not stop thinking about what he saw no matter how hard he tried to get it out of his mind. He was in a gloomy mood when he arrived back home and didn’t even meet with his council as he intended. He didn’t even notice they were there until he was told about it, and he ordered them to leave. He said he will call them the following day to discuss things. On the other hand, Caleb was in a sullen mood, when he saw Nazima’s black and blue body because of all the torture she endured, he was not happy at all. It was he who ordered her to be tortured but now seeing her like that he didn’t like it. He delicately laid her down on his own bed then went out to get healing seaweeds then wrapped her whole body with them. When he was done, he left her to rest, but he kept going back to check on her and when he found that she was still unconscious he would be disappointed, and his mood turned even more sullen. No one dared to approach him when he was like that. When he went to che
“I think we should back the princess, she is our only hope at a better life. Remember how prosperous we all were under her father’s ruling? The Naga king never wanted anything from us, all he demanded was peace and we can have all that if she becomes the queen.” The Crab general said talking to his council.“The Naga clan is the most peaceful of all the species, but I heard and saw how mercilessly she killed those merpeople. The princess has changed, and we must expect that she might be exactly like the Mer king, then what?” one of his council members voiced his concerns. All of them saw the bodies of the merpeople and the sight wasn’t pretty.“How did you expect her to take back the throne? By talking to them? did you forget how the merpeople slaughtered the Naga people and the king? That girl lost everything at a very tender age and in the hands of the merpeople. She fled to the gods know where to save her life, did you expect her to come back and negotiate peacefully with the Mer k
The seers were the first to arrive at the slave camp when they got the message of the princess’s return, they always knew she was alive but were never shown where she was exactly until a few days ago and when the Naga’s arrived and told them about her return. They were more than willing to go and see for themselves and assist her in the way the god instructed them.“By the gods, I cannot believe it. You are here.” One seer said when they saw Nazima. They last saw her a year before the war between her kind and the Merpeople. “I am sure you do not remember us princess, but we are the seers, we advised your father when he was king, and we are here for you.” Nazima looked at the three women in front of her.“If you are advisors of kings then why are you not advising king Caleb?” she asked, when she escaped Caleb, she went to her people where she found Zane and he told her about the plan. Her people were happy to see her, but some were disappointed that she did not have the trident of king
“You really are a freak, you even have a demon, and you think the likes of you would lead our kind?” said one of the king’s guards, their appearance made Nazima and Zane feel anxious. They both knew that Nazima needed to merge with her demon now before it is too late. “If you want to keep your lives then hand him over,” Zane warned but the two guards sneered. They hated the Naga people and Zane was no different. They thought he was one of the males in the slave camp and saw no threat when they looked at him. When they found and captured Nazima, she was alone, and they did not think she came with someone. “You are a slave, and you know better than to talk to us like that. Or do you want us to teach you a lesson?” they asked but Nazima had no time to entertain them. Now that she was close to her demon, she could feel how he was slowly slipping away. She needed to merge with him, and she needed to do that now. Without thinking, she swung her snake tail and wrapped it around the Alligator
