Chapter 4

Jennita’s pov (3 years later)

‘Beta Jennita, we’ve received word that the Alpha will be caught up in another business trip in the States. He pleads that you consider substituting him at the General Alphas being held tonight at Dark Raider’s Pack.’

My hand paused midway, a spoonful of food hanging from my hand as I positioned it close to my son’s mouth. Stiffness eluded my posture and a glint flashed in my eyes but I casually resumed feeding him, watching with a warm smile on my face as he chewed carefully before swallowing.

“Mommy, feed me too!” Janet squealed from where she sat next to her twin brother, her large eyes gleaming as I fed her next with a chuckle at her perseverance.

‘Beta Jennita. He’s pleading. He knows you’ve resented having anything to do outside the territory, but he’s asking just this once.’ Gamma Louis’s voice came persistently through the mind link again.

‘If you could find a better time to try to persuade me. I’m currently feeding my children.’

‘Oh. I apologize. Of course, Beta Jennita.’

Sensing he had left me, I finally released a sigh I never realized I had been holding. However disturbed I may currently seem at the news, watching my babies eat before me set a fondness in my eyes, clearing any heaviness in my heart immediately.

Three years had passed since I had been sworn into the Titan’s pack in Jamal’s office with a broken heart and a soul seeking retribution for my unborn child. I had become Jamal’s maid then. However, my journey from his maid to his second in command was earned by a series of moments and accomplishments that earned me the respect and trust of Jamal I never knew I needed.

Despite the doubtful and loathsome mistreatments I got from his people who held doubt and mistrust towards my sudden appearance in their pack, my ascent through the rank had been nothing short of a testament to my unwavering determination. With my resourcefulness, strategic thinking, and unwavering loyalty, I had no doubt made a name for myself. I had retained the Beta blood still running thick inside my veins.

I thought of the future I wanted my unborn children to have and I knew I couldn’t settle for them becoming children to a maid. Regardless of circumstances, they still had Alpha blood flowing in them, and it would be disgraceful to subject them to a low rank.

There was the initial skepticism and lack of trust at first, but Jamal and I were able to build a bond of unwavering trust and friendship through our shared trials and triumphs as I stood by his side. During those times, I also rephrased my thoughts about the cruel monster I thought I had once known.

Jamal was far from one. I owed him. He had done so much for me even without him realizing it. Even though I played what might seem to be a massive role in the growth and development of now one of the largest packs in the north, I still felt indebted to him.

He was on another one of his business trips abroad but was supposed to have returned yesterday to attend the General Alphas’ meeting today.

It was an all-out meeting where all the Alpha of the eight packs, including the rogue’s pack, gathered once a year. It was usually one of urgency that prompted everyone’s presence.

Not going and having the other Alphas mark him absent might inculcate wrath and severe punishment which I did not want to be the cause of.

But I wanted anything more than not to go. I hadn’t stepped a foot outside the rogues’ pack for three years. I loved it here, most importantly, I felt safe.

Most of all, I dreaded having to see familiar faces.

My worry was so imminent that it couldn’t be hidden from my children who seemed to be very keen and observant for their age. They both suddenly hugged me, startling me a bit before I realized what was happening and chuckled.

“Sweethearts, what’s wrong? You made Mommy scared.”

“Mommy, please don’t look sad.”

“Yes, Mommy. Uncle Jamal is not around, but we’re here. We miss Uncle Jamal too, but we know he’ll bring us many gifts when he comes back.”

I felt my heart swell at how cute they were, and without resisting, I snuggled my babies into my embrace, quickly changing the topic to lighten the environment. “What do you think he will get us this time?”

Janet cheered up immediately as she leaned back to yell proudly. “I told Uncle Jamal to get me the biggest doll house I can play in.”

I expressed mock shock and surprise as I opened my mouth wide. “Really? “

She nodded. “Mm. Mommy, you and Uncle Jamal can come play with me in the doll house too.”

“What about me?” James pouted.

“No boys allowed.” She stuck out her tongue at him earning her a chuckle from me.

“But Uncle Jamal is a boy!”

“No, Uncle Jamal is an Uncle. They’re different!”

I laughed again, watching them banter for a while before I put them to sleep.

Once they had slept, a grave look settled in my eyes as I got up to take a shower, changing into my full royal regalia before heading out to meet Gamma Louis who was a bit surprised to see me all dressed up.

“You’re ready.” It was more of a question than a statement.

I took a deep breath before assuming a cold look, my blank eyes meeting his as I said, “Prepare the vehicle. We’ll leave immediately, lest we’ll be late.”

He bowed immediately. “Yes, Beta. Alpha Jamal has appointed me to accompany you along with some carefully picked guards, many of our best men. Rest assured, you’ll be safe.”

I curtly nodded just before he left. The moment he left me alone, my face fell and I assumed upon my former look of dread and fear.

‘It’s just one meeting, Jennita. Jamal has done so much for you already, just do him this one favor. After all, it’s already been years, he’s happily married and might probably not even recognize you. ‘

With that in mind, I rolled my shoulders, taking a deep breath before leaving. However, not before appointing my most trusted maids to look after my children till I was back.

On the way to the meeting, we had gone a long way through when we encountered a broken-down vehicle on the way. A small lit fire was at the side, smoke blanketed the surroundings and the vehicle looked bad. It looked like a recent accident, and panic surged through my body when my eyes closed, Tasha, my wolf, alerted me to the sound of a heartbeat.

“Louis. Stop the car...”

The moment it stopped, I immediately got down and rushed to the car, avoiding the words of protest from the Gamma and the guards as I immediately squeezed into the passenger’s seat of the damaged car, the smell of smoke and fuel causing my head to spin as I ducked under to gain entrance inside.

True to my instincts, a man was lying inside, his hand thrown over his face. The other hand was limp against the car seat. I raised my head and yelled to Louis to get aid from two guards while I ducked back in to try to wake him up. The temperature In the car was not enough to cause me to sweat, but it barely fazed me.

I could hear his perfectly still beating heart, relieved he was still alive. He was badly hurt and was bleeding from the forehead, but he could still be saved. For an accident this bad, he was lucky to even be in one piece.

Suddenly, he groaned, alerting me to focus on him.

I naturally reached out and grabbed his shoulder to still him. “Excuse me sir, but please, you’re badly wounded, I wouldn’t advise you to move too much.”

He suddenly froze, as if my words had struck a nerve, but before I realized what was happening, he snatched my arm and pulled me in closer. In shock at his actions, I gasped as I fell into his embrace, a familiar scent hitting me and causing me to raise his eyes to meet his.

Of all men, it had to be him. Those cold, eyes still retained those unfeeling glaciers from before, but this time, they were brimming with what looked like a long rekindled burning fire that burned deep into my eyes.

“It’s been years, but I would recognize that voice anywhere.” His familiar voice was deep and cutting, his grip on my arm tightening as his jaw hardened.

“Let go of me, Antonio.” I calmly said, feeling my heart drum in my chest.
