As life stirred within her once more, a panicked voice cried out in relief, "Thank the Moon! You are awake!"
Alinta opened her eyes and nearly jumped when she saw a familiar face filling her vision. "Helen? What happened?" she groaned.
"You scared the life out of me, that's what happened! When you didn’t show up at the café, Lilly tried to contact Ange to find out if you were still on your way. When she couldn’t reach her, I headed straight to your place only to find a huge red wolf passed out on your doorstep! How are you feeling? Can you get up? I'm taking you to the doc!"
Alinta took a moment to assess her surroundings and mentally evaluate herself. "Ange you okay?" she quickly asked, before looking at her friend with a puzzled expression.
"Yeah, I feel fine now, but that was rough!" Angela grunted somewhat feral.
"We're good now, thank you, Helen. I don't know what happened, but on our way home, we started feeling off, and as Ange reached the porch, it was lights out. You mentioned you saw us in wolf form?"
"Yeah, but sometime after I got you into your room, you slowly shifted back to your human self. But wait, hold on, the two of you felt sick? Like both bodies?" Helen asked, shocked and unable to believe what she was hearing.
"Yeah, but I feel fine now as if I had a good sleep."
"That's not normal! Come on, let me take you to the doctor, please," Helen begged, giving her the biggest puppy-dog eyes. Unfortunately for her, Alinta had grown somewhat immune to her persuasive powers.
"I am fine, Helen really. If something happens again, I'll let you know and go to the doctor, promise."
"You better!" Helen huffed and pulled her friend into a deep hug.
"I will," Alinta reassured her, enjoying the embrace.
"Good!" Helen replied warningly, then checked her watch. She pressed a button and began typing on her phone while glancing at the watch.
"What are you doing?" Alinta asked intrigued.
"I, little madam, am making notes for how long you have been passed out since I found you here. I'm going to forward everything to you to give to the doctor!" Helen declared, absorbed in her phone.
"You worry too much!," Alinta laughed.
"Negative! You are like a sister to me, so of course I will never worry enough!" Helen said earnestly, thinking about what might have happened if she hadn't gone to check on Alinta. She then playfully pinched her cheek with a smirk. "Now, is there anything I can get for you?" Helen asked, concern evident in her voice.
Alinta shook her head and was about to get out of bed when she realized Helen had dressed her and braided her hair. "You are just the best! How about I make you a cup of coffee as a thank you for everything you have done for me today?" Alinta asked, batting her long eyelashes.
"Oh no, no, no! You sit your bootylicious arse in bed, and I will make us some coffee!" Helen commanded. Alinta laughed, raising her hands in surrender, knowing she had already lost even before the war started.
Helen made coffee and returned to the room with a box of biscuits she had bought at the café while waiting for Alinta. The two women chatted until it started to get dark. Alinta felt concerned for her friend's safety and meticulously tried to convince her to go home. Helen only agreed once she was certain Alinta was okay.
The following morning, Alinta woke up early, feeling refreshed. She decided to contact Jenny, her employer and friend, to ask if she could work only half a day. Jenny was elated by Alinta's request, especially since Alinta rarely took time off. Although Jenny knew Alinta loved working at the library, she had often wished Alinta would take some time for herself to enjoy the things a typical person in her twenties would do. During this time of the year, Mondays were usually quiet at the library, with very few visitors apart from some schoolchildren looking for books to help with their end-of-year projects.
As lunchtime approached, Alinta made her way to Aunt Deanna's home. Deanna was a beloved figure in the community; everyone affectionately referred to her as their aunt. She was Umber Valley's national treasure, a dignified historian of werewolves. Aunt Deanna was the second-dearest person to Alinta, and she cherished hearing the old woman's stories about the past. Alinta arrived at Deanna's small house, which was only a five-minute walk from the library. As she drew near, Alinta quickly straightened her dress and knocked on the door.
From inside, she could hear the careful and graceful footsteps hurrying to the entrance. When the doorknob turned and the door opened, Alinta eagerly greeted her, saying, "Hi, Aunt Deanna!"
"Oh, Alinta, what a pleasant surprise! Come in, dear child, make yourself at home!" Deanna welcomed her with open arms. She hugged Alinta and gestured for her to sit down. Deanna was a tall, elegant woman with aquamarine-coloured eyes that seemed to see into the very essence of a person’s soul. The warmth she radiated made anyone who approached her instantly fond of her.
"Now tell me, what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?" Deanna asked excitedly, her voice brimming with warmth.
"I was reading some human literature yesterday and now, well..." Alinta began.
Deanna shook her head playfully, her long silver hair sparkling as each strand caught the sunlight. "I see, though I don't blame you, those stories are quite trendy," she said in a serious tone, whilst trying to hold back a chuckle.
"But yours are the best, Aunt Deanna," Alinta interrupted.
"And they are not based on fiction!" Deanna said proudly. "Though there aren't any new ones I can tell you, my child." She lifted her hand to her chin and tapped her red lips as she delved deeply into her ancient mental archives.
"But on our last visit, you said you had a new myth you wanted to share with us," Alinta pouted.
"Oh yes, of course! How could I forget!" Deanna dramatically pinched the bridge of her nose. "Have you heard the legend of the Rogue Deity?"
"Rogue Deity? No, I have never heard of such an entity," Alinta replied, intrigued."As you know, a true rogue is a title reserved for criminals of our kind, not for a wolf who leaves his family or friends to travel alone in search of adventure. The Deity in this story was a powerful wolf, created specifically to control and dominate immoral wolves of power, such as kings and leaders," said the old woman, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Those men of power became increasingly corrupt due to their human disposition, making them susceptible to temptation." Deanna paused for a moment to gather her thoughts before continuing."I think I need to start from the very beginning!""No, she always does this!" Angela exclaimed in the confines of her person's mind. Alinta smiled, stifling a laugh. Unlike Angela, she didn't mind waiting; Aunt Deanna's storytelling was an art to behold."Now, as you know, around 2100 BC our race was created by a dark witch who cursed a shepherd for selling her
Deanna entered with a tea trolley, and a huge grin on her face. "Now, for a more pressing matter in the present! How are things with you, my child? You’ve been like a ghost these days."Alinta smiled gratefully as she poured herself some tea and grabbed a muffin. "These smell divine! Thank you, Aunt Deanna. I'm doing well, I’m finally able to close the chapter on my mother’s passing and found peace. I’m ready to make some much-needed changes to the cottage I had been putting off.""That is wonderful news to hear, my dear! Your mother would be so thrilled. I know Estelle would want for you to move on and be happy."Alinta stared down at her cup while stirring the spoon gently, she could only nod her head in agreement, for Deanna spoke the truth, but it was difficult for her to talk when hearing her mother's name. "Anything else?" Deanna asked playfully, raising and lowering her eyebrows to lighten up the mood.Alinta's cheeks flushed, and she quickly dismissed the question. "Nope, unfo
It was a breezeless night in the famous Silver Forest, with the moon appearing large and intimidating as it hung close to the earth. Werewolves considered this a blessed time, for the Moon God was making his presence known to his children. The Silver River flowed lazily, allowing any bypasser to see the moon's clear reflection in the water. It was close to midnight, and the forest was silent, except for the occasional cricket rubbing its legs in search of companionship. The moon shone at its brightest, softly illuminating everything in its silver light. Every full moon brought this enchanting glow to the forest, which is how it earned the name Silver Forest. However, tonight, the moon radiated an extraordinary beauty.Gradually, a few bubbles erupted from the water, disturbing the tranquil atmosphere. Cautious frogs, sound asleep on their lily pads, sleepily turned to look at the disturbance. More bubbles followed, and fish nearby jumped out of the water as if frightened by something.
Alinta was in her room holding a handmade sling bag. She packed a dress and underwear while deep in thought, ensuring she didn't forget anything. "Alright, I'm done packing. Are you ready, Ange?""As I will ever be! It has been long since we visited our quiet place!"Alinta smiled in agreement. She quickly undressed and threw a large towel around her. She stepped out the front door, carefully closing and locking it behind her. Scanning her surroundings for any unexpected visitors, she waited until she was sure the coast was clear. Then, she shifted into her wolf form, allowing Angela to take control. With the strap of the bag slung over her neck, she began to run deep into the forest. It was a long and tedious day for Alinta and Angela. Although work wasn’t an issue, for their day was unusually quiet. Alinta found herself repeating the words Aunt Deanna had spoken the day before, which echoed continuously in her mind. On her toughest days, she would go for a run to their secret place,
“Thank you,” Alinta said gratefully, but Bellinor remained silent. He simply nodded and started walking toward the building. At the entrance, a bouncer looked Alinta up and down. However, when his eyes met Bellinor’s, he immediately stepped aside."Please fetch me a visitor tag for my guest," Bellinor asked in his serious business voice. The man instantly ran off and then returned with a tag moments later. Bellinor thanked him and then carefully draped the lanyard around Alinta's neck. He locked his arm in hers once more, and they continued deeper into the building towards the function. The scene resembled a club lounge, filled with men and women enjoying themselves in a frivolous manner. Alinta shivered at the sight; it was far from her cup of tea. "Where is he?" Bellinor asked gravelly, pulling her away from her thoughts. Alinta concentrated on her bond and then pointed to a semi-enclosed area that appeared to be a VIP private lounge. Bellinor's eyes widened in shock, but just as qu
Now too engrossed with his girls, Eddison did not notice Alinta's presence until she cleared her throat. He looked at her with a dissatisfied look, at first he was annoyed that she was still there, but now having a closer look a new motive came to mind."Well well," he hummed then kissed the woman's bare shoulder on his lap, before gently motioning for her to get off so that he could stand up."So, my mate actually has the guts to confront me? You seem like quite the vixen now that I see you up close, but I could have sworn just moments ago you looked like a broken animal ready to flee."He stepped intimidatingly close to her, allowing the bond to guide his movements. Angela and Alinta sighed at his presence. He was a captivating figure, with ash-blond hair and hazel, almond-shaped eyes. His bow-shaped lips were framed by light stubble, and his natural scent resembled a refreshing sea breeze. However, this aroma was nearly overwhelmed by the sickly smell of the other females who clung
"Alinta! You haven't seen the last of me!" Eddison roared as the three women helped him to his feet."Ange, thank you so much! But why? What about you and Indigo?" Alinta asked her wolf still in shock at her decision."He was too weak!" Angela replied, smiling."Weak? What do you mean?" Alinta asked, confused."No mate of mine would allow his human counterpart to whore around as he pleases. Also, the two of them have no relationship, they are weak, we deserve better!" she declared ever so proudly."My dear, are you alright?" asked Bellinor gently ripping Alinta away from her conversation with Angela."I swear if this one now tries anything I will not hesitate to rip him to shreds," Angela grunted annoyed."I am fine Mr. Crassus, thank you for stepping in, but Angela and I had things under control," said Alinta somewhat coldly."I had no doubt, but as host of this event it would have deemed sluggish of me if I did not intervene and bring order," Bellinor said with a gentle voice. As th
Alinta tucked her hair behind both ears, her posture shifting as if she wanted to make herself smaller. "Honestly, I don't know anymore. At first, I thought he had been stalking me for the last month, but after the run-in with him on Sunday, Bellinor carried on as if all was well and seemed oblivious to everything. It’s possibly my paranoia." "Wait, what?! Sunday? This past Sunday when I saved your arse, and you didn’t tell me?!" Helen gasped. "Sorry, I didn’t think to mention it, but yes, we crossed paths and exchanged words. Jenny wasn’t at the front desk, and Bellinor was impatient, asking if I could help him with his books." Alinta paused when the waiter arrived, carrying a tray with coffee and cake. "Thanks, Rodger," Helen beamed, then slapped Alinta's hands away as she pulled the tray closer to her. "You continue your story while I prep our coffee and treats." Alinta shook her head and continued, "I swear it feels like he’s getting closer every time I see him. At first, when
***Hours earlier***Bellinor and Alinta are travelling to one of the oldest and most famous towns of the werewolf race. It was a six-hour flight from Umber Valley, but Alinta managed it better than her previous two flights. Bellinor ensured she was comfortable while remaining close by his side.Alinta had no idea where they were going until Bellinor casually asked, “I wonder what the weather is like in Wereradix, hmmm?” He looked at his treasure with a playful glint in his eyes. She gaped at him in complete shock as she heard that name. It was a town she had only dreamed of visiting. She and Aunt Dianna had spent countless hours discussing Wereradix, a place of pilgrimage for any devoted werewolf.“I will only gift you what your heart desires, my lovely,” Bellinor declared, as he looked at his fixation intently. Alinta earnestly took hold of Bellinor’s hand and tenderly intertwined her slender, delicate fingers with his to show him how much she appreciated his words.“As long as I can
Silas almost let a deep growl escape his lips, but he then realised Alinta's smell was faint. "She does not sleep here. Thank the higher Divinities," he sighed with relief. He carefully made his way to Bellinor's bed, to the side which looked the most used. He gently bit the drawer handle of the bedside table and pulled it open.He didn't know what to expect, surely Bellinor wouldn't be careless enough to leave anything of value in a place like this. As he opened it completely, a bottle of medication rolled into view.“Probably for sleep,” Orion guessed."He will have more sleepless nights when I am done with him!" Silas snapped.“Feel if there is anything else hidden, the drawer,” Orion suggested."I have a better idea. Let's first change back to our human form, and get dressed in his clothes. We will need our hands for this, and it should help musk our scent.”"Agreed," Orion said, and in an instant, he shifted. He quickly made his way to the large cupboards on the opposite side of t
Orion and Silas finally arrived in Umber Valley, and though exhausted, nothing would deter their mission. They will find their mate! As they reached the estate's gate, Orion looked frantically about, hoping he would see his mate. He snapped out of his pursuit as the driver asked for the code on his phone to give to the guards at the gate.Orion switches on his phone and overlooks the new messages from Kyle to find the gate passcode. He noticed the missed call messages, but he made a mental note to contact Kyle later once he got a gap. After a few minutes, the driver was cleared to enter the estate and after ten minutes Orion and Silas were at their little duplex. They thanked the driver and tipped him. Once alone, Orion did not waste a moment. It was a small two-story building and Orion dashed for the balcony to scan the area.It was beautiful tropical terrain full of large, lush trees and plants. This part of Umber Valley is a protected wildlife nature reserve with many ancient trees
"What are the conditions for such a hex?" Kyle quickly asked as he stopped writing."The ritual is a spiritual practice that involves numerous chants and the use of rare herbs. The participant referred to as the rejector, must spend a month mentally and spiritually preparing themselves. This preparation period is essential to ensure they are fully ready for the experience. They drink a potent cocktail, then scream at the top of their lungs the name of their mate and wolf they wish to be free of.""A month?” Kyle exclaimed. This method could not be the answer between the timeframe Alinta and Orion met and then the time their bond snapped. Kyle rubbed his brows as he tried to think of something more probable.“Can a third initiate such a hex?" Kyle asked."What do ya mean, Officer Kyle?""Say there is a fated paired couple, and another male is interested in the paired she-wolf; can he enforce such a ritual on her?"Jack laughed, "No. Even if he holds a gun to her head, and she participa
“Great! I look forward to your update. Thank you for your time, Mr. Crassus. Have a good day further,” Kyle greeted. He remained quiet until Bellinor returned the farewell and ended the call. He released a frustrated exhale and looked at his notes helplessly. Kyle was spent. In the past few days, after investigating the Reverie Villa, he and his team uncovered evidence on a massive scale. Which linked multiple old and new cases to numerous she-wolves who had dissapeared. Additionally, they discovered several underground dungeons where women were brought in and kept before being auctioned off for entertainment in the extravagant parties hosted at the villa.Kyle had a long list of suspects connected to both trafficking and drug-related activities. It was a significant discovery, but it also meant more sleepless nights. Kyle did not mind, though; in fact, he and his wolf were anxious to find those missing women and put every foul bastard involved behind bars. Martha settled on a plea an
Bellinor had just left Alinta at the library, as he had important business to attend to. The woman made her way about the space, staring at all the books in awe. She tried to reach out to Angela, but still, she could not feel her wolf. She must be with Onyx; that’s probably why I can’t feel her, she sighed to herself, in dismay. It was the first time ever that Angela snapped at her like that and avoided her for so long. Alinta absentmindedly grabbed a large book while she thought over the conversation before Angela got angry, and it continued to deeply bother her. She sat down on the faint couch, staring seriously into nothingness, and then she quickly realised something. Could it be that Ange is still mourning over Silas and Orion? Though I thought she seemed to have adjusted quite well to Onyx and Bellinor. Angela only grieved for an instant when she told me that our second mate was gone, but she sounded more angry than sad then. Dammit! What sister am I?! I never visited my poor
"It was nothing important, now... where were we? Hmmm?" he asked with two fingers under her chin. Alinta blushed profusely; she gazed at him with loving eyes, further bettering his mood. "Enjoy your meal, my love," Bellinor said gently and kissed her once more before he sat at the other end of the table to receive his breakfast. The two ate in silence, but Bellinor did not dare take his eyes off his treasure. Her presence and the sight of her was an addiction to his eyes. He could never tire of looking at her. Bellinor worshipped everything about Alinta—her movements, her physique, her posture, and her striking emerald green eyes. Her swan-like neck, the shape of her face and her long eyelashes are all so captivating! Every aspect of her complemented each other in perfect harmony. To him, she was the perfect she-wolf, and his obsession with her continued to grow. Now and then, a whiff of her fragrance would drift past his nose, further making him run away with his thoughts as he cont
Draven rampaged through his forest, burning and obliterating every tree or obstacle in his path with his violent violet rays of light. He was filled with anger, anxiety, and restlessness. He understood Alinta's vision; it was no mere dream but a threat—a warning that Silas had somehow grown stronger.Draven struggled to identify the source of Silas' newfound power, which only fueled his frustrations further. He could only come up with three possibilities: first, the Moon had decided to descend to Earth; second, the Moon had sacrificed some of his life force to his celestial wolf; or third, Silas had absorbed the souls of werewolves, as he had done. None of these theories provided a sound conclusion. It most definitely could not be the first, for the stars foretold the union between God and werewolf, and it came to pass with Alinta’s mother thirty years ago. The Moon wouldn’t be foolish enough to consider the second method, for Silas was already half of him. Sacrificing more of his ene
Trigger warning: The following chapter contains scenes of rape and violence, which may be triggering for some survivors. Reader’s discretion is advised. It was three a.m. and Bellinor’s eyelids flung open, but his orbs glowed a frightening shade of amethyst, meaning Draven was in control. He got up and stealthily proceeded to his treasure’s room, like a silent shadow. His heart fluttered excitedly as he saw his sleeping beauty.“It has been a few days since you accepted us, my princess,” he murmured in somewhat of a trance. “I must confess, my patience is gradually withering away. How I hunger for you, my scarlet damsel. Though I may possess your luscious wolf, I am a greedy entity with a dire appetite.”Draven carefully sat beside his desire, becoming more enrapt by Alinta’s splendour. “I need to be compensated for my patience, no?′ His piercing wolf eyes leered over her body. “This will be just our little satisfying secret,” Draven whispered as he placed his hand on her head and gras
