Alinta tucked her hair behind both ears, her posture shifting as if she wanted to make herself smaller. "Honestly, I don't know anymore. At first, I thought he had been stalking me for the last month, but after the run-in with him on Sunday, Bellinor carried on as if all was well and seemed oblivious to everything. It’s possibly my paranoia."
"Wait, what?! Sunday? This past Sunday when I saved your arse, and you didn’t tell me?!" Helen gasped.
"Sorry, I didn’t think to mention it, but yes, we crossed paths and exchanged words. Jenny wasn’t at the front desk, and Bellinor was impatient, asking if I could help him with his books." Alinta paused when the waiter arrived, carrying a tray with coffee and cake.
"Thanks, Rodger," Helen beamed, then slapped Alinta's hands away as she pulled the tray closer to her. "You continue your story while I prep our coffee and treats."
Alinta shook her head and continued, "I swear it feels like he’s getting closer every time I see him. At first, when Ange and I began to suspect we were being watched, we would only see shadows disappearing from the corner of our eyes. As time progressed, we started to smell him and then see him looking at us before walking away when he realized he was caught, or that's what we thought. Anyway, I was so worked up by the encounter I decided to come straight home, completely forgetting about our meetup."
"Holy shit, that is not cool! Do you think that’s why you passed out? You probably had a panic attack when he approached you," Helen said tenderly as placed the plate with carrot cake close to Alinta, and then reached for her friend’s fidgety hand.
"Hmmm, I wouldn’t be surprised if you hit the nail on the head. It’s been quite unnerving," Alinta admitted, looking away and visibly showing fear and unease towards Bellinor.
"Maybe you should confront him the next time you see him, stalking," Helen suggested, making air quotes around the word "stalking." She poured hot water into a cup, stirred it, and handed it to Alinta, who accepted it gratefully. "It’s possible that he’s seeking closure. Just tell him you want to talk somewhere public, and I can be nearby to intervene if needed. Although Mr. Crassus seems like a decent man from what I’ve seen and heard, perhaps he has changed."
Alinta shivered at the suggestion and shook her head. Understanding her friend's hesitation, Helen thought for a moment and quickly asked, "So, what are we doing on your special day?" She took a bite of her lemon meringue cake, looking as if she had died and gone straight to heaven.
Alinta giggled inwardly at her friend's reaction, but her expression turned serious. She wished Helen hadn’t brought it up because she knew her friend would want to come with her. "Well, you see, I always wanted to travel somewhere alone. Angela and I just found a place for an adventure, and we decided to take this coming weekend to do it."
Helen looked at Alinta with an unsure expression, pondering what to say for a few moments. "That sounds exciting! I’m a bit bummed you won’t be here because I wanted to spoil you, but I can still do that when you get back! So tell me more about when and where?" she asked, excitement brightening her usual personality.
"I want to go to the Bare Mountain's Shadow. They’re hosting some kind of event tied to werewolf history and folklore. You know I love those kinds of things. It’s happening on Saturday, my birthday."
"Yup, that’s not my cup of tea! But I’m so excited for you. Good for you, my friend! You need an adventure! How are you going to get there, though? Those mountains are super far and in the middle of nowhere!" Helen exclaimed, with a paled expression.
"That’s true. I was thinking of taking a cab from here to the bus station to Silverside Airport, flying to Mercurysburg City and finding my way to Bare Mountain's Shadow. I still need to do a bit of research and see what shuttle services are available."
"How about this, since you’re abandoning me, let me help plan your transportation and find you a decent hotel?"
"Oh no, Helen, I can’t let you do that. I’m a big girl now—hitting the big 3-0!" Alinta laughed.
"Please!!!! It’s not like I’m going to pay for it. I just want to help!!!" Helen whined like a child, attracting the attention of other customers at their table.
Alinta became self-conscious and whispered in defeat, "Okay, okay, you can help! People are starting to stare!"
Helen immediately transformed back into a civilized adult, beaming with a huge smile. "Good! Now send me the dates, times, and venue so that I can organize everything."
Alinta finished the last bite of her cake and said, "Thank you so much, Helen. You truly are such a sweet friend. I need to use the lady's room quickly; I'll be back." With that, Alinta got up from her seat and disappeared into the cafe.
Helen took out her phone, typed her new to-do list, and quickly sent a message. She didn't have to wait long before her phone began beeping constantly as messages flooded in. She put her phone on silent and tossed it into her handbag, releasing a sigh as she lost herself in thought.
"What’s wrong? Did you miss me that much?" Alinta giggled as she returned.
"Ha ha ha, of course!" Helen laughed. "Also... work has been such a pain lately. I'm sometimes forced to turn off my phone just to have a moment of silence," she admitted honestly.
Alinta observed her friend and noticed how tired Helen's eyes looked, despite her good attempts to hide it. Feeling a pang of sympathy, guilt tugged at Alinta. "In that case, I can't let you waste the little time you have..." Knowing what Alinta was going to say, Helen shot up and placed her index finger over Alinta's lips.
"Not another word," she warned darkly. "Just send me all the information I need. Come on, I'm waiting."
"Damn girl, I surrender! You even have Ange speechless," Alinta laughed nervously as she took out her phone. She typed a short list of times and dates, along with the link to the function, and sent it to Helen. Her friend opened the message, smirked, and nodded in approval.
"I'll leave you to do your shopping and prep work for your trip. I'll catch up with you later when I have a break from work. I see I have a meeting I need to prepare for," she grumbled.
Helen lifted her hand to call the waiter for the tab, but Alinta crossed her arms and said with a sly grin, "No need—I took care of it."
"Took care of what?" Helen asked, confused. But before Alinta could explain, Helen realized what her friend meant. "You sly little fox! That settles it; you definitely have vixen in your genes. Don't think you can get away with this," she said calmly.
Alinta just laughed. The two women got up and hugged each other before parting ways. Alinta decided to visit some shops to pick up items for the trip before heading back home. She didn't linger too long, as she had a list of things to buy and wanted to stick to her schedule. Once she returned home, Alinta took out her notebook and began crossing off items from her list. She retrieved the new suitcase she had purchased and started packing the things she needed for the trip. "Wow, someone is enthusiastic," teased Angela.
"I know it's a bit early, but I've never done something like this before, and I can't afford to forget anything."
"True that! I’ll think of more things to help you. I’m so excited! I'm also grateful Helen took it so well. She really is a darling."
"Indeed she is," Alinta said with a fond smile. She then thought about her upcoming adventure and realized it was the first time in years that she looked forward to her birthday.
Meanwhile, in the lavish parts of Umbre Valley Estate, Helen was sitting in her room when the phone rang. As soon as she saw the caller's name, she quickly answered, "Good evening! What do I owe the pleasure of your call at this hour?"
"Watch yourself, Dolion! You almost failed me again today!" snarled a very angry voice on the other end of the line.
Helen pouted and replied, "How? The moment she told me her plans, I immediately texted you! I was just as caught off guard as you were. When I saw her on Sunday, she never mentioned anything to me, so her decision must have happened yesterday! I did try to talk her out of..."
"Shut up!" the voice roared, making Helen flinch. "Last Sunday you failed to get Alinta to meet you at the café, now this? I can't afford anything to happen to her. I have been protecting her for all these years. Just when I started to believe she had accepted her fate here in this town," he sighed in frustration, "that woman will be the end of me."
Helen rolled her eyes, grabbed a bottle of red nail polish, and spoke while opening it, "It's not like she's running away or anything. She's a big girl; the worst that can happen is she bumps her head and learns something from the experience."
"Are you fucki..." the angry voice paused as he considered something, then continued, more gently, "Hmmm. I'll confess, Dolion, you do sometimes have your moments."
"Hmmm, talk to me like that more often, and I'll be more than willing to go out of my way for you, no matter the task," Helen replied flirtatiously, finishing coating her second nail.
A deep laugh could be heard on the other side of the line, and then the man answered in the same tone, "Is that so? Then I will try to be more considerate," he paused as he took a strained breath, then continued, "but mark my words, if anything happens to Alinta you would wish you had never existed! Do I make myself clear?" he hissed venomously.
"Y..yes sir," Helen stuttered.
"I will email you your next set of instructions shortly." He said coldly, and the line went dead.
"All this after being rejected, why even bother...," she sighed and continued to paint her nails as she waited for her email to come through.
Her phone vibrated after twenty minutes passed, "Perfect timing," she said pleased as her nails had dried.
Alinta's mind was clear, but she couldn't stop thinking about her big trip in five days. She revisited the bookmarked webpage on her phone, reading the information repeatedly. Angela was unusually chatty today; for the first time in years, she was excited about their upcoming birthday. Angela's positive mood was uplifted by her human's joyful spirits."I have been thinking about what you said, Ange.""Which subject? I've spoken so much over the past eleven years, and only now do you want to reflect on my words?" Angela teased playfully."Oh, come on! It's not my fault you talk so much," Alinta replied with a small giggle. "But on a more serious note, we really need to visit that jailbird and see if he will finally accept our rejection.""Look at you, growing up! That's my girl," Angela sang with pride. She knew this was a significant step for Alinta. She also hoped that if he could accept the rejection, they would have one shared negative memory to set aside and forget. "When do you w
"Yes, I think the sooner, the better. When we return to my villa and I fuck you, you will enjoy it and accept me as your mate," Eddison laughed villainously, lightly grazing his human teeth against her skin and then teasingly nipping at her wrist. Alinta desperately tried to fight the drug with all her might, while Angela, completely feral, snarled and barked like a mad animal. She anxiously tried to reach Alinta and take control, but this strange poison would not allow it."It will be quick," he said, his eyes glowing an almost eerie yellow. His teeth elongated and sharpened as he carefully positioned her timid wrist between his jaws. Just as he was about to clamp down, Eddison hesitated, releasing her hand and letting it dangle at her side. He then lifted her head against his chest, tilting her face upwards to look at him. The poison had fully taken hold of Alinta, and Eddison revelled in seeing her so helpless in his arms."Perhaps I'm being a bit too hasty, aren't I? After all, ma
"My darling Alinta, you are finally awake!" exclaimed a deep, familiar voice."Mr. Crassus?" Alinta replied, a mix of surprise and panic in her voice."Oh, how my heart can now be at ease," he said, greedily cupping the side of her face as he examined her. He noticed the tension in her body language but chose to ignore it."I am so happy I was able to reach you in time before that fool had the chance to take you away from m... ahem, town.""You saved us?" Alinta asked in disbelief, her heart softening as gratitude began to replace the fear she had felt for the man over the past 11 years. "Thank you," she said, her relief evident as tears started to form."Get a grip, girl! I find this whole situation he's orchestrating suspicious!" Angela snarled defensively.Alinta silently thanked her wolf for bringing her back to reality. As she reflected on the event, she noticed Bellinor interpreting her silence as an invitation for affection; he began to caress her cheek lovingly with his thumb.
Alinta was feeling overwhelmed, so Angela stepped in and shifted, sprinting with fierce energy as she sensed her person's raw emotions. "Als, you did so well, and I am proud of you, but you don’t need to appear strong in front of me. Let it out; you can't keep everything bottled up inside." Taking a deep, trembling breath, Alinta began to weep uncontrollably."That's it. Once we get home, I’ll comfort my sister," Angela comforted as she skillfully raced toward their cottage. She didn’t stop, her large, clawed paws digging into the earth with each fleeting stride. Her fluffy tails fluttered in the wind, making her look like an elegant firework shooting through the forest, ready to burst into flames at any moment. Finally, Angela reached the cottage, but she hadn't transformed back just yet. Instead, she took the key gently in her mouth and unlocked the door. Once inside, she kicked the door closed with her hind leg and made her way to her mother's room. She carefully climbed onto the b
It was four in the morning when a familiar noise invaded Alinta's dream, like a Viking raid on a peaceful village. She groaned as she woke up to her buzzing alarm. Just as she was about to turn it off, she remembered that today was the day of their trip. Alinta jumped out of bed, brushed her teeth, and took a quick shower. Since comfort was key to her travels, she put on some jeans, sneakers, and a pretty navy top that matched her shoes. Alinta tied her thick red hair into a high ponytail and opted for light makeup: some foundation powder, eyeliner, mascara, and cherry lip gloss. Satisfied with her appearance, she grabbed her handbag and stepped out of the cottage, just in time to see the taxi driver ready to help with her luggage.Alinta arrived at the bus station an hour before departure. Great, some time to grab snacks for the road, she thought. Just then, she caught a familiar scent and anxiously spun around, only to find Bellinor standing among the trees, almost hidden in their s
The following morning, Alinta woke up early to the sound of her mother singing as she carried a cup of freshly brewed coffee."Happy birthday, my baby," her mother sang, pulling Alinta into a tight hug. Her mother was beautiful, with raven black hair and striking green eyes, just like her daughter. "Today is the day the Moon blesses you with your wolf, Lara, and I can't wait to meet her." She hummed and kissed Alinta on the forehead. "I wanted to spoil you with a special breakfast, but since Bellinor has gotten to you first with his invitation, I guess you'll have to settle for some coffee instead," she winked."Mom, no matter what you make or give me, it's always the best," Alinta giggled, enjoying the warmth of her mother's embrace."Oh, my baby, I wish I could give you the world—that’s how precious you are to me. When you get home, we can go to the river as promised and run with our wolves.""I'm so excited!" Alinta exclaimed, eagerly trying to call for her wolf, but there was no r
Bellinor released Alinta to cover his mouth as he coughed uncomfortably, trying to get his thoughts together. Her words were completely unexpected. Though determined to change her perspective of him, Bellinor slips his free hand under her jaw to cup the side of her face, making her look at him."My dear, please rather see me as your beloved protector, for my feelings for you are so much more. If ever I wanted to be a father it would only be of our future pups," he whispered sensually close to her ear."Oh my!" Alinta reddened uncomfortably, then continued, "Um...but I first would like to find my true..." Bellinor silenced her as he kissed Alinta. She tried to retreat from his hold, but he tightened his grip. Hoping to sway her mind, believing she would melt in his arms by his touch. Alinta gasped through her nose in surprise. Instead of a quick peck, Bellinor snaked another hand behind her head, holding her in place, pressing himself against her soft lips, praying the kiss would trans
“Earth to Alinta! You’re next in the queue,” Angela called out.“Oh, sorry! Thanks, Ange,” Alinta replied as she snapped out of her thoughts and quickly shifted her attention to the cashier.“Hey, don’t let that jerk scare you. He’s not going to ruin our holiday,” Angela said once Alinta finished paying for her items.Alinta glanced at her phone and sighed. “We have twenty-five minutes left. What are we going to do now?” she asked reluctantly as she approached the exit.Angela looked around, trying to see through Alinta's eyes. “I don’t see him anywhere. Where do we need to go for our bus?”Alinta checked the name of the bus company. “It’s called Grey Hare.” She then stared at the long building with different entrances, each window displaying the corresponding company name, but she couldn’t see their bus brand."Guess we have no choice, but to leave the safety of the shop," Alinta sighed and quickly walked down the sidewalk, which felt like a long trek.“Dang, who knew there were so m
Angela was agitated, running in circles at the space available from the monstrous infiltrating rose bushes. She cussed and hissed as she meditated on their situation. Her person was fast asleep, and she sensed Bellinor's presence all over Alinta doing who knows what. She also grew increasingly anxious, knowing Onyx might appear at any time."You fucking weeds better earn your keep and prevent that mongrel from coming near me," she hissed as she felt someone enter her territory."My, my, such a captivating creature, yet has such a foul mouth," a deep voice hummed out loud, taking Angela by surprise. Her fur raised on her back and she growled anxiously."First of all, I don't give a fuck about your opinion. Secondly, who are you?" She spat ferociously whilst looking around for the intruder."Is this how you always treat your guests?" Asked the voice now closer. Angela was about to retort when, all of a sudden, the roses magically cleared away, creating a perfect arched entrance. As she
On a plane heading to Mercurysburg, Orion sat like a statue with his eyes closed. He had managed to book a flight for ten a.m., which would land in the capital around five a.m. the next morning. Orion was in a meditative state; he had been practising this every day for two hours, hoping for at least a fraction of his memories to return. During his travels, he also tried to learn as much as he could about the world he was in.Although Silas had spent centuries in this world, most of that time was spent in his forest, uninterested in what lay beyond its borders during the seasons of change. When the time came for him to leave the forest, he had no idea what to expect. It was thanks to Greer and his many avian friends from nearby cities, who were familiar with the affairs of the two-legged, featherless giants—whether shifters or humans—that Orion and Silas were able to navigate the world outside his forest. Now, Orion and Silas had thirteen long hours remaining on the agonizing flight. A
Bellinor gently released her hands to wrap his arms securely around her and carefully rocked his treasure while planting occasional kisses on her head. "Fear not, our princess is in no danger. This is just part of the plan," Draven reassured calmly."What? You did this?!" Bellinor was about to rage, but Draven interrupted him."Her voice is gone to prevent her from rejecting us; it is only temporary until she is branded," Draven said dangerously."I see," replied Bellinor, while enjoying Alinta in his arms. He noticed she seemed ready to bolt if given the chance. "The doctor will be here soon, my darling," he whispered, then let go of her neck to brush her hair away from her face. The woman turned her head away from his hand and started to shift uneasily, holding her neck again as the pain became more pronounced. Seeing she had an opening, Alinta mentally set aside her discomfort and attempted to escape his hold, but Bellinor easily trapped her in his embrace."Is it still sore, my da
"Wh...what do you...?" Alinta's face paled when she saw the empty office. She frantically looked around, hoping to find Orion, but once she accepted that he was indeed not there, she turned to face Bellinor, confusion written all over her face.Bellinor smiled at her knowingly and approached her ardently. "My darling, do you still fear me?" Alinta backed away, provoking a wave of anger in Bellinor. However, just as quickly as it ignited, it faded, and his soft expression returned."Please, do not fear me. I have given you my heart, love, and sincerity. I only worship you, my little Vixen. You are completely oblivious to the extent of my adoration for you. I have been there for you during your moments of loneliness and even when you wished me away. I know what I did to you twelve years ago was wrong, but after all these years, you are still the only female I desire and love."Alinta took another step back, her wide-open eyes fixed on Bellinor. Aside from his eerie, infatuated expressio
Sleepily stirring from her slumber, Alinta shot up as she recalled what happened before she passed out. Waking up in an unfamiliar bed frightened both her and Angela. Her wolf was aggressive and on edge, ready to annihilate, frustration evident at her repeated failures to protect them.Alinta, on the other hand, trembled at the thought of what might have happened while they were unconscious. Checking her body for any pain or bruises, she closed her eyes and held her breath to examine her vulnerable areas. Alinta sighed in relief, realising she was untouched. This news calmed Angela somewhat, but her anxiety to escape matched Alinta's determination."What the hell happened? Did that jerk kidnap us?!" Angela growled anxiously."I don't think so. Before I passed out, I remember he was thrown off of us," Alinta replied, shivering at the memory."Als!" Angela barked nervously."What?" Alinta jumped."I’m trapped! That creepy black plant grew around me and it's fucking massive! I can't jump
In his mind's eye, Bellinor saw a bare man crouched over Alinta, about to kiss her. Filled with rage, he transformed into a mass of black ash and violet static, surging toward the man with ferocity. First, he struck the man with such force that he was sent flying into a boulder. Then, the ash engulfed him, transporting him into the sky."You dare lay your hands on what belongs to me!?" Bellinor bellowed with more than one voice. The man was shrieking like a maniac, as he was being crushed and suffocated by the pressing force. His body was robbed of all its fluids, the black vortex created a dried-out carcass which evaporated to blackened dust absorbed by Draven's magic. The mist twirled like a whirlwind in front of the semi-conscious woman, and Bellinor returned to his form. He looked like a tyrant ready to kill all who dared to oppose him, but his eyes immediately softened once his treasure's grateful gaze consumed his view, before she fell unconscious. He gently lifted Alinta into h

**November 25, 2024, Present**Alinta and Angela spent the entire day in their cottage, discussing their plans. They agreed to join Jennifer and Xavier, but once they arrived at the caverns, they had to leave them and explore the area."Are you really okay with this plan?" Angela asked, still uneasy about the whole idea."Come on! I’m finally the one not chickening out on something, and now you’re acting like this," Alinta pouted.Angela remained quiet for a moment before exclaiming, "What the fuck?""What’s wrong?" Alinta asked."Go make yourself comfortable and get over here," Angela said anxiously.Alinta lay down on the large soft quilted bed and closed her eyes, instinctively connecting with her wolf. As she approached Angela, she noticed her wolf sitting with her back turned, staring at something on the ground, her fur standing up along her spine."What is it, Ange?" Alinta asked, carefully moving closer to her wolf. Angela turned to Alinta and moved aside, revealing a small bla
