I immersed myself in a sea of paperwork, a deliberate effort to divert my thoughts from Ari and my brother Ulric. More importantly, it served as a means to escape the irritation of Maddie's presence at home. I just couldn’t stand seeing her, especially sharing one bed with her with the possibility of being intimate.

Since our marriage, I found solace in spending the majority of my days within the confines of my office, a deliberate attempt to avoid sharing space with Maddie. The very idea of sharing a room with her was repulsive, and I deemed it preferable to exhaust myself at work, falling asleep at my desk, than to spend the night in Maddie's arms, a thought that sent shivers down my spine. Maddie's well-being was of little concern to me. In fact, my priority was keeping her out of my sight.

Unaware of Rolf's entrance, I continued my work, indifferent to the occurrences around me.
