Lenora
I was still lost in my thoughts when a knock came. My heart sank thinking that it might be Axel, returning to demand my presence at the ceremony. I opened the door and I was shocked to see my step mother and Melissa.
Anger washed over me as I glared at their faces. Matilda knew that her daughter was having an affair with my mate and she didn't scold her. Why was I even surprised? That was what she did to my mother. She was once my mother's best friend.
My late mother was my father's mate, but he cheated on her with Matilda. My mother who couldn't bear the news about her mate's betrayal, committed suicide.
My father blamed himself for his beloved mate's death. He couldn't live with the fact that he made my mother lose her life. Thus he killed himself too. I was only eight years old at the time and I was made to live with Matilda.
Those times of my life were the worst. At some point, I wanted to leave, but I couldn't. I had nowhere to stay. Thus I just stayed in the house, counting the days until my eighteenth birthday.
Matilda's smile was thin and tight. “We just came to check on you,”
“I know how you are feeling. The news of my daughter's pregnancy must be hard for you to handle….”
“This is betrayal,” I spat out. How could my step sister have slept with my husband? How could she do this to me?
“You should even be happy that I volunteered to save your sorry ass. You can never give your husband an heir. You are barren and you will always be,” Melissa said, a smirk playing on her lips. Not just her. Her mother too.
The words stung as it hit me like a ton of bricks. My hands flew to my chest, as if I could physically push the pain away, but who was I fooling?
“How dare you rub it on my face?” I whispered, my breath shaking.
Matilda shrugged, a satisfied smirk on her face. “It's nothing but the truth. Your mate deserves someone who can give him a heir and too bad it's not your barren ass,”
I stood there, feeling the weight of her words crushing down on me. How could she say those words to me?
“It's not my fault that I am barren.” I said through gritted teeth.
“Cut the crap sister,” Melissa hissed, her voice laced with mockery.
“The least you could do now is to come celebrate with your sister. She is not the one behind your barrenness,” Matilda spoke up again. It was obvious that they were trying to get on my nerves and boy, it was working.
“Step sister. She is not my sister. If you want to say it, say it right “ I said through gritted teeth and the two of them burst into laughter.
“It doesn't change anything, does it?”
“Of course not, mother. She will forever remain barren,”
“I can't celebrate such betrayal. I cannot pretend to be happy when I am not,”
Melissa rolled her eyes. “Well, that's too bad, because you are meant to be happy that I am helping you out by giving your husband what he wants. Who knows by the time I deliver, I'll be made Luna,”
I felt a surge of anger and I took a step forward. Before I could stop myself, I raised my hands, ready to hit her, but instead I felt a tingling sensation on my face.
“Don't you dare try to raise those hands on my daughter ever again,” Matilda thundered angrily, while her daughter stood in front of me with a wicked smile on her face.
I bared my teeth and growled, my eyes locked into hers. I could feel my wolf stirring within me, eager to lunge at them and put them in their place. No matter what, I am still their Luna and I deserve their respect.
Melissa's smile only broadened as she continued to mock me.
“We both know that you are the weakest in our pack, just like your wretched mother. Show us what you've got,”
“Keep my mother out of your filthy mouth,” I warned, but she rolled her eyes.
“Your mother is wretched and you are just like her,” Melissa added. I couldn't take it anymore. With a loud growl, I charged at her, my claws elongated and my teeth gritted, but Matilda was too fast for me. She dragged her daughter out of the way, laughing wickedly as I stumbled and fell on the floor. I hissed and tried to stand up, but I felt a foot on my back, preventing me from getting up.
“We will always be ahead of you, just like my mother was ahead of your mother,” Melissa chuckled, her face inches away from mine, her hot breath against my face.
The two of them burst into laughter, a sound that sent shivers down my spine. It was a malicious laugh, one that made me feel insignificant.
The two of them turned to leave, but not before throwing one last hurtful word my way.
“You are just jealous, Lenora, because you can never give your husband what he wants,” Matilda said, a smirk on her face.
“You'll always be Luna without an heir while my daughter provides an heir for him. You are barren. Pathetic”
As soon as they left, I burst into tears. I didn't even try to get up from the floor. I was too weak to do that. I can't believe this turn of events. My mate and my step sister have been having an affair behind my back. How long has this been going on?
Goodness! This is too much for me to bear. I was still on the floor when a knock sounded on my door. When I didn't answer, the knock came again.
Gathering enough strength, I rose up from the floor, wiped my tears and went to get the door. It was my personal maid - Laura. I walked away from the door and she got in, while closing the door behind her.
“Oh Luna” she whispered as she wrapped her arms around me. She was a woman in her early fifties and ever since I came to this pack, we have been best friends. Now in her arms, I cried like never before. She didn't say anything to me. All she did was to pat my back and comfort me while I cried in her arms.
After a while, I pulled away from the hug and she helped me to wipe my tears.
“I overheard the young maids talking about Mistress Melissa's pregnancy and I came to confirm it,” she said. I didn't even need to say anything before she knew that the news was true. She needed no soothsayer to tell her. The way I was crying was proof enough.
“I'm so sorry, Luna,” she whispered as she wrapped her arms around me again and I just nodded. I don't even have any strength to talk anymore. All I just wanted to do was to get over with the ceremony and return back to my room.
Lenora As I walked into the Grand Hall, I saw that it was already filled with Pack members, all dressed in their finest attire. The hall is decorated with balloons and ribbons, and a large banner reads “Congratulations to Alpha Axel and Miss Melissa” and I just rolled my eyes. I was wearing a simple yet elegant black dress, my hair pulled back in a loose bun. My eyes were sunken and my skin was pale. I could feel everyone's eyes on me, but I ignored it as I walked towards the front roll. Anger washed over me as I saw that Melissa was seated on his right side. Well, I sat down next to my mate, trying to pretend to be happy for him and his mistress. No matter how hard I try, I can't pretend to be happy for them. I mean which Luna in her right senses would happily accept such betrayal from her mate? Axel stands at the front of the hall, a broad smile on his face. He's wearing a tailored suit, and his eyes are shining with pride. “I welcome you all to this ceremony. For those
Lenora I gradually opened my eyes, drowsily observing my environment. I saw that I was in the dungeon, the chill of the stone walls and the faint torchlight starkly reminding me of my situation. I tried to sit up, but a surge of dizziness overwhelmed me, making me lie back down. “Hello?” I signaled the guards who were standing by the door and one of them rushed forward and bowed before me. “Greetings, Luna!” He greeted me and I nodded. “How long have I been here?” I asked him. “You've been here for two days, Ma'am,” He said gruffly. “You've been unconscious the whole time,” I felt a wave of anger wash over me upon hearing the news. Two days? How could Axel keep me here for two days? I was the Luna for heaven's sake!! “Thanks!” I said to the guard and he bowed and walked back to his duty post. At that moment, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching. I glanced up to find Melissa and her mother approaching me, wearing satisfied smiles. I noticed the other woman behind
ZADE "Of course, I do. I can feel the mate bond," She replied in a robotic tone which indicated that she wasn't happy. She didn't sound happy at all. But that was the least of my problems. At least for now. What mattered now was that I've found my mate. My lips curved into a smile as the thought settled in my head. This had to be the happiest moments of my life. I never thought that a day would come when I would find my mate, but now she was right in front of me. Although I still have no idea what plans the moon goddess has up her sleeves to make Lenora of all people, my mate. I mean she is my archenemy mate. This is so forbidden! Besides, I've been in love with her for a long time now. Fuck, I've been in love with Lenora since the first time I set my eyes on her. That was four years ago and I had plans of chasing her and making her mine, but all those plans went down the drain when I realized that she was not single and worst of all, she was Axel's mate. I couldn't g
Lenora What the hell is going on? Is he in his right senses? How can he say he doesn't give a damn whether I can give him children or not? I mean no Alpha in his right senses will want to be with a barren Luna for heaven's sake! He wants to be with a woman who will never conceive? EVERY Alpha wants a woman who will provide them with pups that can succeed them when they are no more. My barrenness was the main reason why Axel's attitude towards me changed. If I wasn't barren, I'd have still been in the pack and maybe Melissa wouldn't have come into the picture. “You don't know what you are saying, Zade. We can't be together. I can't give you any pups at all, even if we have to wait forever” I said in a stern voice, hoping to make him change his mind, but he shook his head. “Of course I know what I want, Lenora. I want you and you alone. Like I said earlier, if the moon goddess gives us children, that's a bonus, but if she doesn't, we will adopt one,” He repeated the same wor
Lenora Zade took my hands in his as he led me to his car that was parked across the road. A man dressed in black suit rushed forward to open the door, but Zade shook his head, indicating that he'll do it and the guard bowed, before walking back to the car. With a huge smile on his face, he opened the car door for me and I got in, muttering my thanks. I didn't even realize that there was a driver inside the car already. He got in too and immediately, the driver started the car. A thought suddenly popped into my head. Even though he had told me not to worry about anything, I just couldn't help it. Clearing my throat, I started. “So tell me, Zade, are you sure that your pack is gonna accept me?” I asked him. He took my hands into his and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Why are you worried, baby girl? You don't have to worry about being accepted by them or not. They have no choice than to—” “No, Zade. I don't think I can bear it if they don't accept me. What if they see me as a spy
Zade As soon as we walked into our bedroom, Lenora turned to me, her eyes glinting with curiosity. “Zade, what was going on downstairs? Who is Zariel to you and what did he mean?” My lips curved into a reassuring smile. All I was trying to do was to downplay the situation. “Nothing, baby girl. Zariel was just being his usual dramatic self. Don't listen to him,” “I see,” She nodded and I sighed in relief, but it was short lived because the next minute she raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical, as if she was contemplating on believing me it not. “But what did he mean? What truth was he talking about?” She asked again. I chuckled lightly, trying to brush off her questions. “Honestly, baby girl, I have no idea what he was rambling about and even if I did, I wouldn't worry about it. You are my mate and that's all that matters,” Lenora looked unconvinced, but she didn't press the issue further. A sigh of relief escaped my lips. I wasn't expecting her to give up so soon. “
Zade I walked into the living room still fuming with my encounter with that brute. The guards handed the phone and I answered after composing myself. I wouldn't want my mother to know that I was in a bad mood. She wouldn't stop pestering me until she knew what was wrong. “Hello, mother,” I said, while forcing a smile to my face even though I knew that she couldn't see me. “Zade, my son! How are you and how have you been?” My mother's warm and melodious voice replied and instantly my frazzled nerves were soothed. “I'm fine, mother. How are you doing too?” “You don't even bother to call me. What kind of son are you?” She huffed and I could only chuckle. “I'm sorry mother. I've been going through some kind of shits and it's really driving me crazy,” “What's wrong? Is there a problem with you?” She asked, concern laced on her voice. It brought a smile to my face. She gets worried over the tiniest things. “Just dealing with some pack business,” I replied, not wanting to wo
Lenora's POV 'Don't feel special because the Alpha is being sweet with you. He would discard you soon, just like he has discarded the other women that he has been with,’ The maids' voice replayed in my head over and over again. No matter how much I tried to shake it away, it just wouldn't go. Even though I just met Alpha Zade not up to a day, I couldn't tell why I was hurt by what that maid had said. Wait a minute, what if I am just overreacting by being angry? “Of course not, Lenora. You are not overreacting in any way. It's normal for mates to become jealous when they get to know that their mates have been with someone else–” “I'm not jealous,” I cut her off. How can she say I was jealous when I just met him? It's not even up to a day. I just hate the fact that the maid had to spell it out to me. She really didn't have to. “Argh!” I gritted my teeth in anger while pulling my hair. “Take it easy, girl. You are gonna end up with a burning scalp,” Zoey chided me soft
Zariel's POV “I warned you, didn't I?” My wolf hissed as soon as I stepped out of the cab, but I couldn't even answer him. I couldn't. Not when my body hurts like I'd been hit with a sledgehammer. How could Zade have fooled me this way? The motherfucker was ready to give me the throne. He was willing to give it to me. Just like I'd planned, I made him know that I won't let him meet his mate unless he gives me the throne. He was ready to do it, but at that point, that bitch had to spoil everything. I could vividly remember the smirk on Zade's face as he stared at me, telling me that I'll never sit on the throne no matter how much I tried. He'd told me that he knew that his mate wasn't with me, but had just been playing along just so he could get a hold on me. Fuck! I growled in anger as I punched the wall closer to me. I ignored the sizzling pain that shot through my body. After all, it was not compared to the other pain coming from my body. How did I not realise that it was
Damien's POV I was standing on the balcony when my housekeeper approached, holding out my phone in her hands. “I'm sorry to disturb you sir, but you have a call.” She announced and I took my eyes away from the bikers racing on the field before turning to face her. “Thank you, Grace.” I smiled at her as I took the phone from her. I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face when I saw the caller. Melissa… the mother of my son. Why could she be calling me at such a time? Shouldn't she be resting by now? I didn't answer the call. I just let it ring to the end. Almost immediately, a text message popped on the screen. ‘Answer the phone, you fool’ The message read. I was about to respond to the text, but just then, her call came in. This time, I picked up the first ring. “Hi, Lissa, do you miss me already?” “In your wild dreams!” She hissed and the smile on my face deepened. “Then care to explain why you are calling me at such a time if you weren't missing me.” I teased a
Lenora's POV “I'm sorry I came late.” I said to Zade, but he shushed me. “Don’t say that, baby girl. You came right in time, okay?” He pulled me into his arms and rested his head in the crook of my neck. We were currently sitting on the couch. “If you hadn't called me earlier, I'd have handed the throne over to Zariel and by now I'll be in deep regret because the woman he claimed to have in his custody wasn't you. It was a stranger. So trust me, you came right in time.” My lips curled into a soft smile. “You are welcome, Zade.” I didn't realise how much I've missed him until right now. I'm glad that everything has been settled and Zariel won't have any means to blackmail him into giving him the throne anymore. “Zade?” I called out, my voice breaking the comfortable silence. He hummed in response and I took that as a go-ahead order. “I'm sorry about your sister's death. I had no idea that Axel killed her just to get the necklace. You can reject me if you want, and I promise to
Melissa's POV Oh goodness! I'm done for. What have we gotten ourselves into? Why did my mother have to lie that Damien was her son? Of all the lies that she could come up with, did it have to be this? And now Axel wants to make him his Gamma. Oh goodness! This is not going to end well. “What's wrong, Melissa?” He asked, his forehead knitted into a frown. “Uh…. Nothing actually.” I stuttered. It won't be a good idea if Damien is made the Gamma. That'll mean more trouble for me. How will I be able to cope with his presence in the pack house? I have to do something. I can't let this happen. “Don't you want your brother to be the Gamma or what?” Yeah, right. My brother. All thanks to my mother who couldn't come up with any other lie than this one. Not just any one, but a grave one. What would happen if Axel comes to know that Damien isn't my brother? The thought of what he'll do to us sent a chill down my spine. “Of…of course, not, my Alpha. You can make him your Gamma.”
Axel's POV I was still in my study when my Beta entered and told me a man had been asking for Melissa—probably her ex-boyfriend, he said. Without hesitation, I sprang to my feet and headed for the gate to see who it was. But just as I reached for the door, it opened, and Melissa stepped inside. Her cheeks were flushed, her expression unreadable. Something had definitely happened. I needed no soothsayer to tell me. “Are you cheating on me?” I confronted her the moment she stepped inside. A startled gasp slipped from her lips—but just as quickly, she composed herself. “Ah, Axel,” she breathed as she placed her hand on her chest. “You scared the living hell out of me,” she said, forcing a smile to her face. “That doesn't answer my question, Melissa.” My voice tightened with frustration. “Are you cheating on me?” She let out a sharp scoff, anger flashing in her eyes. "What's wrong with you, Axel? How could you even ask me that?" “Melissa….” Her lips twisted in disbe
Melissa's POV "Tell me, sweetheart, how did it go?" my mother asked as soon as I walked into my room. I didn’t reply. Instead, I moved to the bed and collapsed onto it. I was completely exhausted. "Did Axel tell you about the strange woman?" she pressed, her voice growing sharper. "The one claiming to be his mother?" But I only shook my head, too exhausted to form words. “I knew it.” She hissed. “Of course he wouldn't tell you.” I drew in a sharp breath. “What do you suggest I do, mom?” I asked quietly. “I really want to know about her. Judging from the way Axel's countenance changed when I asked about her, I knew there was more to their relationship.” “Me too.” She admitted truthfully. “I wanted to know too. He has never talked about her, nor have I seen or heard anything about her.” I was about to say something else, but at that moment, a sharp knock sounded at the door, cutting through the silence. I stared at my mother, “Are you expecting anyone?” But she shook her
Melissa’s POV After what felt like forever, the car rolled to a stop in front of the mansion and before the driver could even park properly, I flung the door open and jumped out, ignoring my mother's sharp hiss behind me. “Be careful, Melissa, you are fucking pregnant” she snapped, but I was already halfway to the door, my pulse racing with a strange urgency. I wanted to meet Alpha Axel badly. As soon as I got in, I found the new Beta. He stood guard in the foyer, his posture stiffening as I approached. “Greetings, my Luna.” He said with a slight bow. “Where's Alpha Axel?” I demanded, ignoring his greeting. “In his study,” he answered, hesitating. “But, Luna, he gave strict orders not to be—” I didn’t wait for him to finish. Turning on my heels, I marched towards the study, my heels clicking against the marble floor. When I reached the door, I knocked once.… just for the sake of formality, in case he was with any Alpha at the moment. I didn't want to appear
Melissa's POV “So tell me doctor, how's my grandson doing?” My mother asked the doctor as soon as she finished examining me. The bright smile on the doctor's face told me everything…my son was perfectly healthy. And judging by how much my bump had grown lately, he was thriving. By the gods, I can't wait to meet him, I can't wait to have him in my arms. “The little one is doing wonderfully. In fact, he might just be the healthiest baby I've ever seen.” The doctor said, grinning as she took her seat. “Of course he is.” My mother chimed in, her voice brimming with pride. "His father is a warrior—strong and resilient. That strength runs in his blood." She added with a smile."So, when can we expect his arrival?" she pressed, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Mother?" I blinked in surprise. I can't believe that she's asking that. "What?" She frowned, tilting her head, to stare at me. “I'm only seven months along. He won't be here for another two months.” I reminded her an
Axel's POV The heavy oak door of my study creaked open, thereby disturbing the silence I had demanded. Felix's hesitant footsteps paused at the door. “Alpha,” he began, his voice strained. “There is a problem.” I didn't look up from the financial reports strewn across my desk, my fingers tightening around the glass of whiskey I'd been nursing for the past thirty minutes. "I believe I made myself clear some hours ago, Felix" I said, my voice low and measured. "No disturbances." He swallowed in apprehension. "I wouldn’t dare disobey you, but—the Moon Wave investors just called. They’re withdrawing from the partnership. All of them." My hands paused around the glass. The room seemed to tilt, the walls closing in around me as Felix's words sank in. “And why is that?” “I have no idea, Alpha. I just received a call from their manager a while ago. He just said deal's off” “Get out!” I ordered, my voice dangerously low. Felix didn't need to be told twice. The door clicke
