Alexander's POV
"I don't understand all this fuss over missing a phone call" Principal Harvard dropped into his desk chair; slamming shut as Alexander went to close the blinds.
Lies were something he was good at detecting. A power most of their lineage had was knowing when someone was lying or being deceitful. A powerful ability to have when you are responsible for the lives of so many people.Manifested differently in everyone though. In Malcolm Fearmist, his grandfather developed as a sense of smell. Told him once deceit smelled of vinegar and lies reeked of durian fruit. Relieved that never developed the same way for him. Instead, it made him nauseous; which was only slightly better. Frequently chewing on mints or gum to ease the sensation. One can hide things without lying. Took a skilled individual to maneuver around his abilities. The Sacred One was talented enough though he never understood why she would have to lie to any of them"Yes. But you are already aware of this.""Why?""Everything she has worked so hard to hide is starting to slip through the cracks. Several millennia worth of lies crumbling down around her. Knowing how many people will be angry with her once they realize.""What lies? Realize what?""She didn't create the fae, at least not by herself. Actually, she probably created the least out of all of us and most of what she did doesn't exist anymore."Looking at him, she let out a sigh. Shock and confusion mixed on his face as her words sank in. Everyone listened to her word as law with the belief we owed her our existence. Believing her power was unmatched, and we would suffer without her. How much have we suffered with her? Saber and Genevieve were separated from their family, their people, for nothing?"Us?""Our brothers and sister. Moira, your sacred one, is my eldest sister. Six of us in total. Used to be more of our kind, still might be.
Genevieve's POVGenevieve wasn't sure how much of this was a dream anymore. The red-headed woman in the forest she can never reach has plagued her dreams as far back as she remembered. Yet here she was again. Arms waving, the long gray dress, the fog. Always the same no matter what she did. Until now. Someone else was here. A shadow in the fog she barely made out.Curiosity getting the better of her, she walked towards the shadow. Disappearing and reappearing somewhere else in the fog anytime she got close until something bumped into her. Whipping her head around, she came face to face with Saber. Was this really a dream? Fear crept up at the thought. Realizing if this weren't a dream, she no longer had a clue which direction lead them out of the fog.She always ran in a straight line through. Not chasing something around inside. A massive cliff hungclose toa thousand feet above the ocean to the right of
Seth's POVBy the time he left, it was after 10:30 pm. Being with her again was great, but his conscience was eating him alive since he still had to lie to her. Of course, he was aware of her adoption. But if he told her who he really was, he would never be allowed near her again, let alone hold her in his arms. If he told her he was working for the person responsible for her mother's death, the reason she had been put through all of this, she would never look at him the same.If he explained himself, he wasn't sure she would ever forgive him for not even using his real name. Then again, he wasn't supposed to love her.She had ascended. Plain to see just by looking at her. To everyone else, she looked the same, but being closer to her than anyone else, the subtle differences were unmistakable. Her eyes were darker than the normal Caribbean water blue. They were turning the deep, blue color of s
Marius's POV Ambrose would be here any minute. Information had told him that the female twin had changed, but he wanted to find out if she knew which powers she received. If she received anything similar to her mother's abilities, she would be powerful. Saoirse had been one of the most powerful descendants of the first witch, so naturally, her daughter would be strong. But Saoirse had been tough to catch and it wasn't going to help at all that powers became stronger if passed directly to a child. Also, the fact that the Alliance was developing advanced ways to strengthen every power. Now he was growing more scared because they were also developing new ways to protect the fae. So, they had to spend more time on ways to bypass the amulets rather than training. Saoirse was hard enough. The male, on the other hand, was like his father. Unpredictable, dangerous, and never wanting to follow the rules. On top of that, he h
Ambrose's POV No surprise Marius had a heads up about Gen. So many people were under his command Ambrose couldn't keep track of their faces. Any number of them may be enrolled at the high school."She's a witch," his fingers rolling into a ball as the man's eyes lit up; the corners of his mouth curling up."Has she found out about her family?" Probably been informed of that answer, too. After Alucard's escape, Marius began testing his honesty."Aware of the adoption at least. Not sure what other information was given to her." That wasn't a lie; wasn't exactly the truth either. All security had been doubled at her house by the time he had arrived. Both Gen's adoptive parents and protectors were still at the house when he left; guilt radiating off every one of them."Does she have any knowledge about the boy?""Never mentioned him.""My sources say they have met," skeptical amber eyes burning into his.
Genevieve's POVHearing soft knocks on her door gave her hope, for just a moment, everything had all been a horrible nightmare. That her mother was coming in to wish her a happy birthday and her life was normal again. But the guilt in the woman's eyes as she walked into the room proved it wasn't."You should come down and eat something," the words came out no louder than a whisper."Was anything real? Eighteen years of pretending to be my parents." Tears welled up in her eyes. It was hard to look at her. All her life they had held her, told her they loved her, that she was able to be anything and do anything. All because someone else ordered them to. Knowing everyone else had plans for her outside of her own."Gen, we never lied to you about how much we cared about you. We wanted to tell you about the adoption but were ordered not to. Your father and I raised you as our own. Loved you as if you were our own flesh and blood."
Saber's POVSunlight beamed through the windows, making Saber's eyes burn as he opened them. Imagined this was how going through boot camp was. Every muscle in his body sore and weak. Making getting out of bed a chore. But he was hungry so staying in bed wasn't an option.Clothing clung to him and reeked of sweat. The warm water felt incredible as he washed the stink away. Stepping out of the shower, he finally began to look around the room. Always had decent eyesight, but this was different. Everything was clear and incredibly detailed, noticing things he had never paid attention to before. His eyes hurt a little as if he were using them for the first time. Must be a result of his change along with everything else hurting. Getting dressed, he headed to find the kitchen. Came as no surprise neither of his parents were home. Did this mean he never had to deal with Alan again? Best birthday present ever.Raiding the refrigerator
Alexander's POVSpending most of the night pouring over various files covering missions and reports from the past twenty years had Alexander more on edge than ever. Gavril had been busy when he returned, the guard didn't have any more than when they spoke on the phone, and the healers were all still on lockdown.Tossing the files back in their spot in the filing cabinet, they were getting him nowhere. If any of them were falsified, he couldn't tell. Too bad his abilities didn't work on paper. Deciding to go straight to someone with a better idea, he made his way down to talk to the king himself.Reaching Gavril's office, he was once again talking with someone. Last-minute meetings before the party the Sacred One insisted on having tonight. Wasn't waiting too long as the guard ushered him inside only moments later."What can I do for my dear brother-in-law today?" Voice thickly laced with sarcasm. They nev
Saber's POV"Destroys the foundation? What an exaggeration," the pale white woman rolled her eyes at his words."The line you are attempting to cross with your pursuit of Ms. Blackheart is enough to nullify the entire collective agreement of the Constellation's Alliance. Do you honestly claim to not remember the terms? Each royal faction agreed to live as one as long as they retained their own power over their kind with no power above them."Whispers amongst the others erupted at the implications. Clearly, Saber needed to learn a lot."You should mind your tone when you speak to me, dragon." Her icy gray eyes bore into Cadmus's crimson orbs but his low threatening growl silenced the room."Before you are two choices, witch. Either drop the one singular charge of escaping lawful detainment, or end your alliance with the fae. The latter inevitably causes war amongst every intelligent species in the human realm. Your choice."His sister's face had grown almost as pale as the woman threat
“Now, since we have two new members, including the accused, I am going to go over the procedure for this meeting,” an unfamiliar man announced as he stood in front of them all. Everyone sat around a crescent moon table as the man stood facing them. Behind him was a massive plain oak chair. “Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Cadmus of the Aracar Dragons and our kin serve as an authority of law and unbiased middlemen in these meetings.” Did he say dragons? Saber didn’t look as surprised when she glanced his way. The man did stand at least eight and a half feet tall. Dressed in a long black overcoat and pants. A pop of color appeared only in the crimson dress shirt that matched the color of his eyes. Thick chestnut locks cut just below his chin that he frequently pushed out of his eyes. “First, the ruling member of the wronged will state their order of arrest. This statement includes the laws the accused is suspected of breaking, a detailed account of the incident, and a
Genevieve’s POVThe King moved them quickly into the castle, refusing to give any further details out in the open. After stumbling several times, Saber rushed to her side in an attempt to keep her on her feet. Every racing heartbeat pounded in her head as the beautiful hall blurred in and out of focus. As her knees grew weak, the floor disappeared from underneath her and her head was now laying on her brother’s shoulder.Silently she begged for sleep to take her, only to force open the heavy lids. Fearing where she may wake up. If she would wake up. She felt it. Before the bright white light illuminated the room, a massive weight pushed down on her body. Saber did too as he struggled to hold her up.“You have no right to be here,” the full authority of the Vampire King’s voice echoed across the room as the light dissipated.“Clearly, you forget your place and who you are speaking to. She broke the law and attacked her own people. As per the law, she is to be taken into the custody of
Focusing on Alyssa, he caught the color fading from her face as her sight fixed just below his left shoulder. Glancing down he realized the heat was coming from his sister. Her normally green eyes glowed slightly red. Anger built up on her face as she stared down her childhood friend."I'm pretty sure he asked a question. Don't try to tell me men coming towards me with cuffs is somehow none of my business," Genevieve spat as the temperature surrounding the twins continued to rise."Everyone wants the situation to go as smoothly as possible is all." Oliver didn't take his eyes off Saber as he answered the question."Treating me like a criminal is not the way to accomplish your goals. What other lies are we going to have to deal with going further?""Nothing else. Our orders were to have you contained before bringing you to the Sacred One." Oliver was lying and she didn't need her powers to see through his blank face."Here is the problem. I no longer believe a word spoken from your mou
Gavril's POV"What the hell happened?" Gavril burst through the doors into the Sacred One's office in Draíocht Tower. The one room in the building attached to the balcony overlooking the courtyard."His death is still being investigated as it only just happened. I also do not answer to you, or have you forgotten?"The arrogance recently caused a lot of tension between the Sacred One and the rest of the Constellation. Everyone looked to her for guidance and leadership only to be met with overbearing criticism. Seeking help while being chastised for needing it. Only gotten worse since he took over the throne. Or maybe he was simply waking up to it."I haven't forgotten. However, my brother-in-law dying mere days after my daughter turned eighteen and refusing to be a part of our world may be something I need to know about.""When we have information to share, you will be informed. Now leave my office, I am clearly busy.""Try not looking so inconvenienced by the death of such a high-stand
Ambrose's POVAmbrose stepped into the small bathroom to make the call. A little unsure how the conversation would go once he got the message. The man may be their brother, but he has his own safety to worry about."What do you need, Ambrose?""I didn't expect you to pick up.""Well, you caught me at a good time.""Genevieve and Saber are looking for help outside of the Constellation. Something is going on and they aren't sure who to trust with whatever the information is. I told them I can ask you but not to get their hopes up.""You think I won't want to help my brother and sister?""More that you may not be safe doing so. The two of them have only been a part of this world since Friday. If they are already worried about their safety they wouldn't be the only ones in danger. I informed Gavril you are alive.""Figured you would tell someone eventually.""R
Saber's POVSaber was unsure of what he was walking into as Genevieve's watcher opened the door to her hospital room. A confused teenage boy sat across from Genevieve and her mother who were both visibly concerned."Sorry, am I interrupting something?" Her mother turned to him as he cautiously entered the room."Not until your father comes back with any answers. We don't exactly have an understanding of what's going on. This is Ambrose. Apparently, he may be able to make himself invisible.""Wait, doesn't he work for...?""Yes. He is also Gen's boyfriend. Things are a little complicated right now.""Oh, okay.'" Saber shrugged, not knowing what else to say.The entire situation was already awkward without the fact he didn't have any connection with anyone here. Standing awkwardly in the middle of the room with no idea how to approach the topic of why he came to visit.Hey, sorry y
Gavril's POVA Cosantóir?The four of them having these abilities means they weren't being protected, but protecting someone else. Or being trained to.They were all under twenty-five at the time, so they would still be learning.Which means their parents were protecting someone. The werewolves' domain was hidden in a corner from all the other factions in the Constellation. With such sensitive senses, they prefer to be as far away from everyone as possible. Spending all day tracking others takes a toll after a while. Most don't like coming here. The wolves don't exactly have a hierarchy or someone considered to be in charge. All decisions are made collectively. Meaning nobody can be bought or bribed into doing something against their code. The Sacred One had never liked the wolves. Called them inconsistent and unclean. In the years he had been fighting beside them he had learned the behavi
A nurse entering the room noisily broke her concentration from her boyfriend, pulling her attention towards the door. Glancing back to the chair, Ambrose was no longer sitting there or anywhere else in the room."How are we feeling in here today? Some alarms were going off a few minutes ago. Your mother said everything was fine, but we wanted to come in and check for ourselves.""Yeah, we had an argument." Her words trailed off as she checked around the room in search of the place he may have hidden so fast. Finding nothing."Are you alright? You look like you lost something.""My boyfriend was sitting here when you walked in, now he's disappeared.""You were the only one in the room when I opened the door.""What? No, he was sitting in the chair.""Nobody was in the chair when I walked in. Maybe I should go grab the doctor.""No, can you send my mom in on your way out?""Alright." The
