Chapter 57

Audrey’s POV

"What do you think you are doing?" One of them yelled at me when I jumped into the ground, clenching my hands into a fist in preparation for a fight.

“I’d show you what I think I’m trying to do when you try to lay a finger on me.” I challenged them and all I got in return were their sarcastic laughter that filled the air.

They didn’t believe me…

"You want to die?" A man with a bald head asked me. I didn't wait to answer him.

He probably took my silence for cowardice and rushed towards me in a bid to scare me but before he could lay a finger on me, I punched him hard in his stomach until I could hear the rumbling sound it made from the impact.

My powers filled the veins in my body like never before. I was breathing fire and anyone coming close to me is going to get consumed by it.

The bald man fell onto the ground, hitting his head on a rock. I sneered and turned around, throwing my legs into the air.

I could sense some fear in them but they didn't seem like

Kaden’s POV:I quickly jumped up, drenched in my own sweat and shaking as the images from my dream kept replaying itself repeatedly in my mind’s eyes like a broken stereotape.I had seen Audrey again, and seen the blood moon almost exactly the same way I saw it the last time I dreamt it.This time, she was just beneath the bleeding moon and drenched in blood. I had tried calling out to her several times but surprisingly, I couldn’t find my voice. It felt weird, and oddly strange that I had suddenly gone dumb, and to make matters worse, it almost seemed like I was getting squeezed by some imaginary forces.I tried moving my limbs too as my mouth could no longer speak but instead ended up falling into the dirt like an infant still learning to walk.In my confused state, I watched as a large black bird suddenly dropped from the sky, picked up Audrey and flew away almost immediately like she didn’t weigh much.I cried, thrashing as I fought against the invisible forces holding me down. Kaden’s POV:Blinded by rage, I stormed into the room only to be met with a fire-spitting Shantel who was thrashing around wildly on the bed and threatening to hurt herself if anyone came close to her.As soon as her eyes landed on mine, her expression immediately turned sultry and she moved slowly towards mine like the viper that she was, ready to strike.“Where have you been?” She said in a hushed whisper, with her eyes locked on mine as if she was trying to see into my very soul.I immediately began to rethink my reasons for coming to see her in the first place and regretting it at every fleeting second. This girl is fine, she only just wants my attention.“I do not see any reason to give you tabs of where I’ve been or what not.” I replied sternly, then changing the topic, I added; “I see you’re better now and unwilling to remain here in the hospital, right?” I asked and she nodded, whilst staring at me like I had something up my sleeves. And yes I did, I needed her out of my sigh

Audrey’s POV:“Are you sure this wouldn’t seem like leading ourselves into danger?” Gamma Lucas said to me with cocked eyebrows.I understood his plight and the fact that he would be quite skeptical because he didn’t know who Kaden was but at the same time, there was no way I would leave them all here, practically in the middle of nowhere.“No it isn’t,” I answered, watching him. “I’m a good friend to the Alpha of the pack… at least after Jacob sold me to him.” I noticed how Gamma Lucas’s fists tightened at the mention of Jacob’s name and remembered when he told me of the wide deep gash of his back that had been caused by Jacob’s blade. That man was indeed a menace to a lot of people!“After killing your parents he still sold you off?” A young lad asked beside Lucas and I nodded, smiling at how pitifully he looked at me.“He sold me off because he kinda blames my parents and I for his father’s death.” I replied, “…but that’s all cowardice, they brought war and we all suffered its co

Audrey’s POV:“You ought to be careful milady,” Ian said worriedly to me as he wrapped me up in a costume looking more like a war gear than a robe. They were all still skeptical about Kaden, and I couldn’t help but understand their worries because I knew that they didn’t know him well enough to trust him.I still couldn’t bring myself to tell them that he was my mate though and I still do not know why.Ignoring the piercing stares from Ian and Lucas, I quickly wore the handmade sandal that I’d been given and walked out of the tent only to discover that almost everyone in this makeshift was just outside my door… waiting for me to step out. There was this tenseness in the air that got to me, it made me shiver with fear and my palms to sweat. I could notice how they were staring at me as if I was a lamb being led to slaughter and couldn’t help but smile at their concern.I didn’t say a word to them though, couldn’t bring myself to as I was in no mood to even offer any form of prep talks

Audrey’s POV“Who exactly are these people you want me to take to my pack house?” Kaden asked suddenly, almost before we arrived at the makeshift. He had been quiet during the entire journey here, with Adler following closely behind us but now I think I knew why. He was probably just as worried as Lucas had been about his people and also maybe as skeptical as my people were about him.“They’re people of my old pack who rebelled against Jacob after he took over the throne.” I replied quickly as we went up the steep hills leading to the deserted area of the forest. I panted as I climbed upwards, feeling myself struggle to get air out of my lungs. I immediately made a mental note to myself that I needed to start training again because it was obvious that I was no longer keeping fit.“My father’s Gamma, Lucas brought them here to this makeshift pack shortly after they were made rogues and that’s it.”“And you think they’ll trust me enough to come with me?… Us?” Kaden asked. At first I

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 63

Audrey’s POV“Erik.” The name kept ringing like church bells in my ears.No wonder he’d been so unnecessarily nice to me in the past even though there had been some sort of bad blood going on between him and Kaden.A thought fleeted past my mind that that was his way of drawing me close, luring me in until I was fully enmeshed in his trap and it scared me.I shook my head, willing the thoughts of Erik out of my head and focusing my attention on the most pressing issues that had presented themselves but it was impossible as I couldn’t help but feel this uncomfortable sensation run up my spine whenever I remembered that my life was in danger.I couldn’t say exactly what I had done to Erik to make him want me dead but then decided that it was his form of getting back at Kaden, seeing as they had a right relationship going on.“What do you intend to do now?” I asked him in confusion as I couldn’t think of any other way we could avoid Erik finding out about my whereabouts… or even finding

Audrey’s POV“You can’t mean that right now, right?” I questioned, glancing between Kaden and Lucas, as if asking for help but Lucas looked away from me.I could sense that the topic was making him quite uncomfortable himself but he stood with us, occasionally nodding his head at every word Kaden spoke.“What other methods do you know of?” Kaden asked, cocking his eyebrows at me.I could think of mindlinks, and also those occasional pangs that mates got whenever their significant other was in trouble but then I realized that it was impossible for Kaden and I to experience those because we hadn’t mated yet.I couldn’t even be connected to his pack because of it, and I felt my face flush as I couldn’t help but think about how his idea was the only probable solution for this. This was sick…!The sly smirk on Kaden’s face was so evident that it made me uncomfortable, and for a moment I couldn’t help but imagine wiping it off his face.“I can’t think of any other method.” I mumbled, avoidi

Audrey’s POV“Argghh!” I groaned in frustration when the lamp in my hands suddenly went off.I felt my hands around the dark tent, and when I had finally gotten the match box I was looking for, I struck it only for it to go off again.I nearly exploded with frustration.A wild chilly wind suddenly made its way into the warm tent that had been built just for me; it ruffled my wild hair in such a way that sent strands of it into my eyes and mouth but I didn’t mind it.I didn’t care s about a lot of things right now as long as it didn’t rain.It came again, and this time it sent a shiver up my body and made my burn fire almost turn off at its strength; and for the first time since I started living alone in this cave, I feared for my safety.I worried even more because I couldn’t help but feel like something terrible was about to happen.I could definitely sense it but couldn’t quite explain it, and for a minute I thought about calling out to Kaden but then thought against it as this wasn

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Epilogue

With my hands planted firmly on my waist, I stared confusedly at the two crying babies in front of me and no matter what I did or said to calm them down, nothing seemed to be working. Seemingly Lost in confusion and not knowing what to do, I tried hard to comfort the crying babies in front of me but they instead laid, crying tirelessly that at a point, I did not know what else to do for they could not stop crying. I carried one of them in my arms and began to rock it gently, the other laid in the crib built for the two babies. I continued this way, giving turns to each of them as I held them in my arms attempting to get them to fall asleep but they wouldn’t. That did little to make them quit though and I grew frustrated but I knew I could not give up. I had tons of work to do, a lot of paperwork also and the thought of attending to those immediately after dropping these kids filled me with so much tiredness that I felt I would drop dead. Since the takeover from Jacob, there

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 122

Audrey's POVFeeling happy and fulfilled that I had fulfilled my words and that I had been able to Kill Jacob in the exact way I had imagined it, I smiled to myself thinking of how this was the first time I felt like I had done something worth deserving as I stared down at his decapitated body which was now covered in a of his own blood, and could vividly see the hole I made on his heart.A smile got stuck on my lips and I couldn't let it go. I allowed it, wondering why Ian had this weird stare on me."You finally killed the predator, after being the prey for so long. You're taking over the predator's land." I muttered to myself as I stared at his blood dripping neck, making trails as I walked, I wanted them to see that I had killed Jacob and ended his reign of terror and destruction.I walked out to the corridor where she listened to the silent gasps and the scared look on the faces of the people.I held the head in my hands and showed it to the people."This marks the end of this he

Audrey's POVI knew Jacob was a bit surprised that I had smiles all over my face, despite the fact that he had a knife pressed on my neck.He was a bit stubborn and I wondered what I would say to him that would make him move the knife away from my neck despite all the white lies I had told him. It was a little confusing to watch him and the cynical smile on his face and at the same time, I was bothered because I knew he was psychotic and could do anything."You could just remove this knife, I would surely guarantee your safety." I said quietly as he pressed the knife deeper into my neck, it was hurting but I couldn't let out a tear, knowing that it would mean defeat and I hated being defeated by clumsy enemies such as Jacob. "Do you expect me to believe you?" He retorted sharply as he pressed the knife, adding a little force to it. When he wasn’t watching, I tilted my head slowly, in a bid to pull my neck away from the sharp blade. "Come on, you have my word, I would surely beg Kad

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 120

Kaden's POVI loved the fact that Logan had to turn against his pack, knowing fully well that Jacob turned them against him. Having killed some of his men, Logan grew tired of killing and felt like setting it amicably. They surrounded him as he let down his guard, he told his men to do the same as they all stopped fighting, Jacob's soldiers were afraid, I guess filled with that thought that they were just leading them to a trap."Why won't you fight us?" The Chief guard questioned as the guard paved the way for him to walk through. "I can't, we can keep on wasting our strength on each other when the real devil is up there watching us." Logan explained, wondering how Logan tends to make this work, it would be hard and it might get ugly. "What do you mean?" The Chief guard was confused. "Jacob is a man that would surely have you all killed if need be. He wouldn't hesitate to threaten the lives of your family if you dare flout his orders" Logan uttered, wearing a smile on his face, ho

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 119

Kaden's POVI felt uneasy, knowing that I had my reservations with Audrey's plot, but I had to give in, she had it all planned out and now that I thought about it, mine had loopholes. If we had attacked Jacob as I planned, he would have escaped or better still led us into one of his unforseen traps which would leave us in jeopardy; harming my men, weakening my manpower and having a strong hold on my resources. But with Audrey's plot, she handles on the inside, while we take care of his men outside which would make everything even and provide Jacob with an extremely slim chance of escaping or having to use someone as bait while trying to escape. "I just hope Audrey succeeds with her plan, I'll take care of these ones here with my own plan," I muttered to myself, knowing that my men were also waiting for my signal.I assured myself, rigging off every fear and trying to remain at peace as I waited for a signal to show that Audrey was in trouble. For now though, I hadn't felt any pa

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 118

AUDREY’S POVI waited for Jacob’s reply to my sarcastic but true comment about the palace but it did not come, the intent of it had not fazed him a bit I noticed and I began to wonder what went on through his mischievous mind. Jacob gently placed his arm around my back and I flinched at the feel of his strong arms around me but let him guide me to a chair close to his throne. Surprisingly he had not still said anything in reply to the view I had concerning the place, perhaps he had sensed the sarcasm in my voice even though I suspected that he knew what I said was true. He acted really sweet towards me while I acted according to the script I was writing in my mind.I sat down calmly on the chair he had offered me and he sat on the enormous throne. We started to talk and he asked about my trip there, asking if I had any troubles on my way. I sweetly replied to him, not forgetting to remind him of how I was capable of taking care of myself. I wondered why he and Kaden always felt that

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 117

Audrey’s POVDespite the anger I felt coursing through my veins and spiking up my nerves, I managed to force a smile as the soldier who stood guard at the door to the throne room opened the huge doors for me to pass through. I stepped into the room slowly as if expecting to be met with some kind of trap and then stopped at some point to take my first real glance at the expanse of the room and the striking view ahead of me. I marveled at the sheer beauty it emitted but couldn’t help but think about how it had lost its shine. The palace, even though ancient as it was, was one of the most mesmerizing views I had ever had the pleasure of seeing. It looked different from what I remembered it to be; the structures were getting old, the decorations were fading out, and what made the room gorgeous most was no longer there – the glitter of people laughing and cheering happily nonstop, in love and harmony. The memory of how the palace used to be filled with love and glamor when it was still m

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 116

Audrey's POVI sat with my hands folded in front of me as I had become more than a little tense due to how much I was wondering what Kaden wanted to tell me that made him keep me in a weird suspense. I hated the fact that my heart raced, hoping that the news wouldn't affect me, or have anything to do with Kaden or Shantel but then from the expression on his face, it was difficult to ascertain if the news coming was a bad one or a good one. I gulped.Filling my head with irrelevant thoughts, I was getting confused as I felt someone holding my left palm, Shantel tilted her head upwards and down, assuring me that all would be fine. I hearkened to her with the evidence of doubt still writhing in me."You're making me uneasy, what is it that you wanted to tell me?" I stuttered as Kaden bowed his head down as he said in a low tone;"I can't tell you, when she's around. She has to leave us, it's personal and urgent.""That won't be possible, Shantel says. If I deserve to listen to this new

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 115

Audrey's POVI hated the fact that I had soiled my fingers trying to take down a guard, knowing that this was a test to show my strength and skills which I knew I didn't have. I just wanted to be able to fight off my enemies with my hands and legs in combat, which would be to my advantage and would come in handy whenever I would need to protect myself, knowing fully well that this was dark times and that Kaden's soldiers were dying in their numbers. It was hard to believe it, but they would just go missing and their dead body would be found, wondering what he was planning or his plans on how to catch this culprit that has murdered many men. I knew this was a plot to reduce Kaden's man power, and it was working effectively. Jacob knew this, and was using it to his advantage. "You're doing quite well, keep it up" Shantel said to me even though I knew I wasn’t doing any good. I knew that she was only being helpful, the smile on her face said the words she was hiding.
