Audrey's POV.I and Maria sprinted off like we were being pursued whilst wondering why the King had ordered us to leave. My heart thumped, adrenaline surging through my veins as I pushed through trees and shrubs. My lungs burned as the air became thinner and my muscles were already starting to scream in protest from all of the running.Suddenly, I felt a strong gust of wind hit me right in the face, making tears prick at the corners of my eyes."Let's go." Maria gasped when she noticed some masked men running towards us. They were so big and so ugly it was pretty difficult to look up at them,We both stopped abruptly, staring into their dark, menacing eyes.Maria looked around frantically for something that we could use to protect ourselves from the attack and when she still didn’t see anything, she fidgeted. Suddenly, her eyes widened likea light bulb had been turned on and then her hands gripped mine tightly as she pulled me towards her direction, pulling me behind a large oak tree
Kaden's POV.I quickly gathered all the guards around and began bellowing instructions to them. I didn't know where this attack came from or what must’ve triggered it but at the same time, I wasn’t going to sit back and watch it happen .Adler rushed by my side, he had a concerned expression on his face. Adler never was one to worry but this sudden attack made us worry, I was glad he was with me but I couldn't help feeling a bit anxious for some reason."It's going to be okay," he assured me."I'm more scared for her." I muttered."Why?" He asked."She's not that strong, she might get hurt." I sighed. When she ran off, my mind was still with her.The look of terror in her eyes, the way she ran off shakily with Maria."Let's deal with the intruders first." I sighed and we ran off.As we approached, the guards were already there."What happened?!" Adler demanded, as soon as I was next to him.Everyone seemed tense and panicked.I looked around, "Who attacked? Who was the target?" I aske
Kaden's POV.The smile left my face when I saw Shantel walk in with a flirtatious smile plastered across that annoying face of hers. She looked around the room, making sure that no one was looking her way and then she took another step forward, walking past me to where she had a seat at the corner of the room. She sat down and smiled at me.She walked to where I stood trying her best to be seductive.”Hey Kaden, I missed you." Her hand ran across my cheek slowly in a way that I found irritating, thus causing me to pull away.I turned to look at her and saw she was holding an arm out. I didn't take it though, instead I turned to the door, and she stopped me."You don't get to leave just yet." She purred, placed her other hand on mine and tried again and began walking slowly around me in semi circles."Don't make me try this hard, my King." Her voice was low and sweet enough to lull anyone into a trance but I couldn't do it. I shook my head and pulled away from her.All I could think
Audrey's POV.I stood up when I heard the door open even though I was still quite shocked at everything king Kaden had said to me. My mind was still in a haze as I hadn’t quite suggested it all. It felt surreal; I hadn’t really expected him to say something like this at all. I looked down shyly when Adler walked in and stared at me with a smile and back at King Kaden.I smiled slightly and bowed my head in respect."Oh! Don't do that," He grinned and sat down on King Kaden's bed, "We're friends now right." He continued with that grin."You can't be friends with a slave." I muttered."I can if I want to." He shot back, I managed a smile bowing to both of them."Remember what I said Audrey." King Kaden's voice boomed from behind Adler."Yes King Kaden." I rushed out immediately, I didn't want him to notice the blush that was already forming on my cheeks. As soon as I walked out the door, I paused when I bumped into Shantel who stood in the hallway, waiting and glaring at me w
Audrey's POV.I woke up with a start, my heart was racing and I was breathing heavily. I didn’t know where I was and the last thing I could remember was fainting when the head slave and her minions had attacked me.I gasped when I looked around my surroundings, only for me to realize that I was in the King's room and in his bed.Instinctively, I looked down at my body and sighed when I saw that I was still clad in the clothes I had worn the previous day.I quickly rolled off the bed but stopped in my tracks when I heard soft footsteps sounding behind me. In near fright, I turned to see one of the king’s guards entering the room.He bowed low to me, and I returned it politely as I tried to balance my weight on my legs. The room spun for a moment until I regained control of myself and sat back down on the bed that had been provided for me.I felt like something bad had happened, but I couldn’t quite figure out what. When I finally got control of my senses and my thoughts, I looked over
Audrey's POV.I blinked my eyes repeatedly after he had said that because I found it quite difficult to believe what he had just said. I felt like I was living a dream I would soon awake from and I felt bad to know that these could all just be fragments of my imaginations. "Where am I staying then?" I asked carefully, not wanting to come off as too eager or too willing."In the palace with me." He replied, making me gasp in shock. He ought to be kidding me!He slowly took in my expression and when he had seen what he was looking for, the frown on his face dissipated and was immediately replaced with a bright smile which almost blinded my vision.I was awestruck!"I hope you'll like it here." He added, but when I still didn’t say a word, he nudged me carefully, saying; “ say something!”"I would love to be here,” I said slowly, “…I'm only just a lil bit surprised that's all." A laugh escaped from his lips before he hugged me. I was also surprised that he had hugged me, but I sa
Audrey's POV.I glanced curiously between the man that just walked in with Adler and back at the king, and couldn’t help but wonder what the deal was between them. It was quite obvious that King Kaden wasn't happy to see him here but I didn’t want to come off as too curious and decided not to ask him about it."King Kaden." The man bowed, but from the almost nonexistent smirk on his face, it was glaring that he didn’t mean his greetings.King Kaden's nostrils flared, his lip twitched as he glared at him, but then he snarled; "What are you doing here?"The man chuckled, "Why should I be the only one to have some fun? You know you're dying for it.""What do you want, Prince Erik?" Kaden rubbed his temples.Prince Erik rolled his eyes dramatically, "Cousin you wound me."He clutched his heart playfully, then smiled wickedly, "But anyway..." He leaned forward slightly until his nose almost brushed against Kaden’s and I looked away because I was starting to feel weird. In fact, this whole
Kaden's POV.I couldn't believe Erik had the nerve to show his face here. The audacity of it all! I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't just as pissed off as he was, even though I knew he did not deserve my fury. My eyes narrowed as Erik walked up, his face had a smug smirk on it, as though he were in absolute control. When he came inside my room, I almost lost it and pounded his face with my fists, but I stopped myself from doing so simply because my Audrey was then and now he’s done something else, something worse.Funny enough, he didn't say anything. Instead he just stared back at me, waiting for me to say something, goading me, testing me.I clenched my teeth, trying to think of how to send him back.He was never to be trusted, he wanted my throne and I didn’t like that. I couldn’t shake out how many times he has tried to kill me in the past, how many times he had tried to overtake my throne, and how he has always failed. If he’s here for it this time again, then he would not succ
With my hands planted firmly on my waist, I stared confusedly at the two crying babies in front of me and no matter what I did or said to calm them down, nothing seemed to be working. Seemingly Lost in confusion and not knowing what to do, I tried hard to comfort the crying babies in front of me but they instead laid, crying tirelessly that at a point, I did not know what else to do for they could not stop crying. I carried one of them in my arms and began to rock it gently, the other laid in the crib built for the two babies. I continued this way, giving turns to each of them as I held them in my arms attempting to get them to fall asleep but they wouldn’t. That did little to make them quit though and I grew frustrated but I knew I could not give up. I had tons of work to do, a lot of paperwork also and the thought of attending to those immediately after dropping these kids filled me with so much tiredness that I felt I would drop dead. Since the takeover from Jacob, there
Audrey's POVFeeling happy and fulfilled that I had fulfilled my words and that I had been able to Kill Jacob in the exact way I had imagined it, I smiled to myself thinking of how this was the first time I felt like I had done something worth deserving as I stared down at his decapitated body which was now covered in a of his own blood, and could vividly see the hole I made on his heart.A smile got stuck on my lips and I couldn't let it go. I allowed it, wondering why Ian had this weird stare on me."You finally killed the predator, after being the prey for so long. You're taking over the predator's land." I muttered to myself as I stared at his blood dripping neck, making trails as I walked, I wanted them to see that I had killed Jacob and ended his reign of terror and destruction.I walked out to the corridor where she listened to the silent gasps and the scared look on the faces of the people.I held the head in my hands and showed it to the people."This marks the end of this he
Audrey's POVI knew Jacob was a bit surprised that I had smiles all over my face, despite the fact that he had a knife pressed on my neck.He was a bit stubborn and I wondered what I would say to him that would make him move the knife away from my neck despite all the white lies I had told him. It was a little confusing to watch him and the cynical smile on his face and at the same time, I was bothered because I knew he was psychotic and could do anything."You could just remove this knife, I would surely guarantee your safety." I said quietly as he pressed the knife deeper into my neck, it was hurting but I couldn't let out a tear, knowing that it would mean defeat and I hated being defeated by clumsy enemies such as Jacob. "Do you expect me to believe you?" He retorted sharply as he pressed the knife, adding a little force to it. When he wasn’t watching, I tilted my head slowly, in a bid to pull my neck away from the sharp blade. "Come on, you have my word, I would surely beg Kad
Kaden's POVI loved the fact that Logan had to turn against his pack, knowing fully well that Jacob turned them against him. Having killed some of his men, Logan grew tired of killing and felt like setting it amicably. They surrounded him as he let down his guard, he told his men to do the same as they all stopped fighting, Jacob's soldiers were afraid, I guess filled with that thought that they were just leading them to a trap."Why won't you fight us?" The Chief guard questioned as the guard paved the way for him to walk through. "I can't, we can keep on wasting our strength on each other when the real devil is up there watching us." Logan explained, wondering how Logan tends to make this work, it would be hard and it might get ugly. "What do you mean?" The Chief guard was confused. "Jacob is a man that would surely have you all killed if need be. He wouldn't hesitate to threaten the lives of your family if you dare flout his orders" Logan uttered, wearing a smile on his face, ho
Kaden's POVI felt uneasy, knowing that I had my reservations with Audrey's plot, but I had to give in, she had it all planned out and now that I thought about it, mine had loopholes. If we had attacked Jacob as I planned, he would have escaped or better still led us into one of his unforseen traps which would leave us in jeopardy; harming my men, weakening my manpower and having a strong hold on my resources. But with Audrey's plot, she handles on the inside, while we take care of his men outside which would make everything even and provide Jacob with an extremely slim chance of escaping or having to use someone as bait while trying to escape. "I just hope Audrey succeeds with her plan, I'll take care of these ones here with my own plan," I muttered to myself, knowing that my men were also waiting for my signal.I assured myself, rigging off every fear and trying to remain at peace as I waited for a signal to show that Audrey was in trouble. For now though, I hadn't felt any pa
AUDREY’S POVI waited for Jacob’s reply to my sarcastic but true comment about the palace but it did not come, the intent of it had not fazed him a bit I noticed and I began to wonder what went on through his mischievous mind. Jacob gently placed his arm around my back and I flinched at the feel of his strong arms around me but let him guide me to a chair close to his throne. Surprisingly he had not still said anything in reply to the view I had concerning the place, perhaps he had sensed the sarcasm in my voice even though I suspected that he knew what I said was true. He acted really sweet towards me while I acted according to the script I was writing in my mind.I sat down calmly on the chair he had offered me and he sat on the enormous throne. We started to talk and he asked about my trip there, asking if I had any troubles on my way. I sweetly replied to him, not forgetting to remind him of how I was capable of taking care of myself. I wondered why he and Kaden always felt that
Audrey’s POVDespite the anger I felt coursing through my veins and spiking up my nerves, I managed to force a smile as the soldier who stood guard at the door to the throne room opened the huge doors for me to pass through. I stepped into the room slowly as if expecting to be met with some kind of trap and then stopped at some point to take my first real glance at the expanse of the room and the striking view ahead of me. I marveled at the sheer beauty it emitted but couldn’t help but think about how it had lost its shine. The palace, even though ancient as it was, was one of the most mesmerizing views I had ever had the pleasure of seeing. It looked different from what I remembered it to be; the structures were getting old, the decorations were fading out, and what made the room gorgeous most was no longer there – the glitter of people laughing and cheering happily nonstop, in love and harmony. The memory of how the palace used to be filled with love and glamor when it was still m
Audrey's POVI sat with my hands folded in front of me as I had become more than a little tense due to how much I was wondering what Kaden wanted to tell me that made him keep me in a weird suspense. I hated the fact that my heart raced, hoping that the news wouldn't affect me, or have anything to do with Kaden or Shantel but then from the expression on his face, it was difficult to ascertain if the news coming was a bad one or a good one. I gulped.Filling my head with irrelevant thoughts, I was getting confused as I felt someone holding my left palm, Shantel tilted her head upwards and down, assuring me that all would be fine. I hearkened to her with the evidence of doubt still writhing in me."You're making me uneasy, what is it that you wanted to tell me?" I stuttered as Kaden bowed his head down as he said in a low tone;"I can't tell you, when she's around. She has to leave us, it's personal and urgent.""That won't be possible, Shantel says. If I deserve to listen to this new
Audrey's POVI hated the fact that I had soiled my fingers trying to take down a guard, knowing that this was a test to show my strength and skills which I knew I didn't have. I just wanted to be able to fight off my enemies with my hands and legs in combat, which would be to my advantage and would come in handy whenever I would need to protect myself, knowing fully well that this was dark times and that Kaden's soldiers were dying in their numbers. It was hard to believe it, but they would just go missing and their dead body would be found, wondering what he was planning or his plans on how to catch this culprit that has murdered many men. I knew this was a plot to reduce Kaden's man power, and it was working effectively. Jacob knew this, and was using it to his advantage. "You're doing quite well, keep it up" Shantel said to me even though I knew I wasn’t doing any good. I knew that she was only being helpful, the smile on her face said the words she was hiding. This was her wa
