Chapter 1984

Author: Celestial Clouds
Swoosh!

Claude lifted Rozi by the back of her collar and placed the old cloth on the large boulder. When Rozi sat on it, she felt a wave of heat travel through her body. Surprised, she realized how extraordinary Claude was. The beads of cold sweat on her disappeared, and she felt much more relaxed.

"What is this thing?" Rozi asked in amazement.

Claude calmly explained, "It's just a piece of rag that was exposed to the sun during the summer. The energy it stored up is now being transferred into you."

Marissa, who was sitting next to Rozi, felt curious as she said, "I want to try it too."

Claude quickly stopped her. "No, you can’t. You're full of vitality and have just taken one of my medicines. You'll start puking blood if you sit on it."

Marissa immediately froze. She believed in Claude's capabilities after the bruises and pain she felt all over her body disappeared after taking his medicine.

"You're a godsend. You're so skilled with medicine,” Marissa praised.

"Hmph, he does

Adrian, who had just descended the mountain, had clearly heard the beggar's words and recognized Rozi's feigned chest pain. This proved the beggar's keen observation skills. "From my understanding, diagnosing illnesses requires physical contact with the patient. How did you know Rozi was sick just by looking at her?" Adrian questioned. The beggar's face lit up with excitement when he saw Adrian. "You're from Navia too?"Adrian was surprised. "How did you know?"The beggar rolled up his sleeve, revealing his thin arm which was the same skin tone as Adrian. "I was once a famous doctor in Navia. I came to Debonaire in search of rare herbs and plants when I heard they existed here."Adrian realized the beggar's origin and decided not to probe further. Instead, he turned to Claude and said, "I trust your character and that you wouldn't steal someone else's things.""But that medicine is mine!" the beggar insisted.Claude confidently faced the beggar. "Yes, I'm not the one who invent

Swish! Swish! Swish! The beggar's movements were so fast the others barely saw his hands move and three needles were already on Rozi's leg. Five minutes later, Rozi started feeling nauseous. "I think I’m gonna hurl… Stand back!" The beggar kindly suggested, "Go lie down on that big rock. Its natural aura will ease your discomfort."Claude thought this was nonsense and anxiously asked, "Why would you ask her to lie down when she still has needles in her leg? What if it gets pushed in?"The beggar ignored him. Just as Rozi's legs were about to touch the rock as she lay down, the beggar lifted up her feet. Immediately, she vomited all the dragon's heart she had eaten earlier. The puke released an incredibly awful smell.Adrian stepped back several paces, feeling a chill. 'Gary was right. We should consume dragon's hearts in moderation.'Rozi felt much better after vomiting, and her stomach was no longer bloated. Once she calmed down, she said, "I feel all right now, sir." Pa

Adrian was puzzled. The beggar, other than his remarkable expertise, looked so frail that a gust of wind could blow him away."You're telling me you're capable of killing someone?" Adrian asked doubtfully. The beggar angrily replied, "Of course, I am! I didn't just kill him, I also killed his entire family. And I’d gladly do it again if I were given the choice!”Claude was completely baffled. He never expected the beggar to have committed such a cruel act. Doctors were supposed to have a heart of gold."Do you still want me as your mentor?" the beggar glared at Claude, looking like a ruffian.Claude rubbed his nose. "Would it be all right if I only wanted to learn your skills and not your personality?"The beggar was both angry and amused. Disdainfully, he said, "I’ll never take you as my apprentice."Claude felt aggrieved. He only wanted to learn the beggar's medical expertise, yet the latter was now mad at him for no good reason."What have I done wrong?" he asked. The begg

The old beggar wept bitterly. Though much time had passed, the experience of being hunted was dreadful. He had suffered so much, but now, all of his defenses crumbled after hearing that Adrian was on his side. "I can finally die without regrets now, my friend!" the beggar cried."Why didn't you return to Navia? I'm sure an expert such as yourself would be highly sought after there," Marissa asked curiously. "I'm too embarrassed to return. I shouldn't have believed in others so easily. Instead, I should've killed that liar a long time ago."Claude was surprised. Indeed, Debonaire was a prosperous place, attracting many with its fame and making them believe it was a land of treasures."Come to my place, sir. I'll beat up anyone who dares disrespect you," Claude urged."You're unfit to be my apprentice!" the old beggar retorted angrily, upset about his stolen formula, for which he received not even a word of thanks.Claude looked to Adrian for help, hoping the latter would interv

'War Legate Draco?' Claude shivered in fear, unable to comprehend why Adrian would be called as such."Are you sure you've recognized the correct person?" he asked skeptically.Adrian's mouth twitched. He helped Lionel up and calmly said, "We're all ordinary people here in Debonaire who’ve been forced to start over. There's no need for you to act this way."Lionel insisted as he was convinced of Adrian's heroic deeds. He firmly held the latter's hands. "You’ll forever be a hero in my eyes!" Adrian felt bewildered.Rozi smiled and said, "I heard that you're a prestigious man yourself, Lionel. We admire and respect you, but I'm really hungry right now. Do you think we can get moving?""She's right, sir. We should get to the Medicis Manor. I'd love to hear more about War Legate Draco's stories,” Claude insisted."Let's go!" Lionel beamed, treating Claude with newfound warmth. "We can have a long chat. I'll make it worth your while."Adrian scratched his nose sheepishly and looked

"He has depression," Lionel stated indifferently, no longer wanting to even glance at Diavolo. "Just look at the state he's in. I would've rammed myself against a wall and killed myself if I were him.""Haha!" Claude laughed. "It is indeed rare to find a person with depression in this day and age. Even I myself have never come across such a case." "Excellent. You can conduct your research on him. I'll guide you, and old fart, I guarantee you'll be completely cured."Diavolo refused. "I'm not ill, just a bit troubled. I came out for some fresh air, and I'm not going to let you use me to make yourselves famous.""Whatever!" Lionel grabbed Claude's hand and dismissively said, "Let's leave him be since he doesn't want our help."Claude, intrigued but confused, recognized Diavolo's voice but could not recall where he had heard it before. "Am I suffering from memory loss at such a young age?" "Don't think about it then. Come on. Let's walk faster and hope that we get rid of him along

Rozi suddenly realized that the old man in front of her was not Diavolo, but the leader of Ivory Cloud. She thanked her lucky stars for being rude to him earlier. The man who had cat-called Marissa promptly knelt beside Kyril. His face went pale as he said, "We were only joking, sir.""You rascals!" Diavolo almost fainted from anger. He had intended to hide his identity, but all of that was over now. "How in the world did I even become your father's friend?"The man panicked. "I'm sorry, sir! My father will die from a heart attack if he knows what I've done!""Forget it, and get out of my sight. I'll pretend I've never seen any of you." Diavolo waved at them, looking unhappy. As Kyril and the other man backed off, they respectfully said to Adrian, "We’re sorry!" Diavolo added, "How's your father's condition by the way? Why hasn't he hired a doctor to take a look at him yet?""He has," the man replied, "He was badly injured, and it took us too long to get him treated, so the do

Diavolo seemed a lot more mature when he was drunk, but would revert to being a naive old fool when he sobered up."I have no clue,” Adrian answered.Rozi was startled, thinking Adrian's reply was really strange. However, she noticed someone was walking their way and realized that was not the time to discuss such matters.Instead, she smiled at the middle-aged man and asked, "Excuse me, may I ask where Arlo Archer's house is?""Who's asking?" the middle-aged man holding a hoe asked.Rozi was stumped, but it was Marissa who smiled and said, "I'm a friend of Winston’s. We heard that his father's not feeling well and have come to visit him.""You're lying. Winston would never befriend lowlives like you lot," the middle-aged man retorted as he sized up the trio.Marissa was instantly rendered speechless. She looked to Adrian, hoping he would be able to try something.Adrian merely smiled and asked, "Arlo, I presume?”"That's right. Why are you all here?"Maintaining his kind tone

Yet deep down, he recognized that whoever had designed the staircase was far from ordinary.Creating such a formidable trial required unimaginable power.Even a pinnacle Void Stage expert—or perhaps someone of the Multiply Stage—might bow in reverence before the ladder's creator."He won't last much longer.
