Sally
My hand rockets out before my brain can stop it, the slap echoing through the sudden silence. I...I hit him! Shock ripples across Ryan’s face as he lifts a hand to his reddening cheek. I freeze, stunned by my own violent reaction.
“Wow,” he says softly. “That really hurt.”
My pulse thunders in my ears. What have I done? I just slapped my Alpha’s brother!
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry!” I cry out. “I...I-I didn’t mean to hit you!”
Please don’t kill me...please don’t kill me!
Ryan considers me with narrowed eyes, flexing his fingers. My pulse hammers in my throat. Is he going to beat me into a pulp for hurting his perfect face?
“That was a good slap,” he finally says, his expression unreadable. “But if you’re really sorry, then I guess we are good.”
Wait, what?
“W-we are good?” I ask in disbelief.
“Yup...can I come inside?”
“Uhh...sure?”
” Cool.”
I stare up at Ryan, who doesn’t pay me any mind. He enters my house without saying another word, eyes locked on the cabinet in the hallway.
I’m used to it.
As the pack’s Omega, I can’t shape-shift myself, but the pack has given me the important task of living in the house with all the spare clothes and a truck to fill up all of our cloth reserves in the forest.
“Now, let’s see...” Ryan opens the cabinet with both arms spread, and my eyes land on his bulbous butt. I watch it in fascination...until I realize that I’m being a pervert and look away with a maddening blush.
“So... Umm...” I wet my lips. “Are you really not going to punish me?”
“For slapping me?”
I mentally wince—this guy is blunt.
“Y-yeah?” I close the door behind me. “I definitely shouldn’t have done that...”
He chuckles. “Nah. I won’t punish you.”
I’m shocked. “Wh-why not?”
“Because I’m sure you’ve gotten beaten enough already as the pack’s Omega,” he turns around with a small smile. “Besides, you probably had your reasons.”
Huh? I’m confused. Didn’t he say he was Ashton’s brother? So what is he doing treating me like a person? No one does that.
“You’re... you’re not going to punish me? At all?” I sputter in disbelief, eyes growing wide as I look at him. His relaxed posture, the coiled strength under his seemingly calm demeanor, everything about him screams danger. But then he grins, and I see this boyish charm that makes him look as tame as a puppy.
“Nope,” Ryan says with a chuckle, pulling out a t-shirt from the cabinet. He looks at it before tossing it aside, and then he pulls out another one. “And you can stop looking so scared. I promise I don’t bite.”
“I find that hard to believe...” I mumble under my breath, crossing my arms defensively over my chest.
Ryan snorts. “Wow. You must have been around a lot of jerks.”
I breathe a laugh and blurt out, “Yeah, like your brother,” without thinking.
What the actual fuck—why did I say that about his brother? I’m a freaking idiot with a death wish!
My eyes widen with fear, but, to my surprise, Ryan chuckles. “Yeah, he can be...difficult.”
Did he just agree with me?
I stare at him, and, for whatever reason, my eyes land on his abs. He is only wearing sweatpants at the moment.
Ryan follows my gaze and chuckles. “Don’t stare too long. You will catch flies,” he warns, his abs flexing as he lifts his arms to put on the t-shirt he has decided is worth his time. “I appreciate the attention, though.”
I snap my gaping mouth shut, heat flooding my cheeks. “Sorry,” I mumble under my breath.
Laughter dances in his eyes, but the amusement doesn’t quite reach his lips. “No need to apologize.” He walks over to me and gently lifts my chin with his finger again, making me look into his beautiful eyes. “You’re pretty cute when you blush.”
“I-I’m not cute!” I protest, stepping back from him. Ryan just chuckles again as he returns to rummaging through the cabinet.
“Well, I think you’re cute,” he says, pulling out a pair of socks and inspecting them before deciding they aren’t up to his standards and throwing them aside.
I watch Ryan for a moment before deciding I’m being stupid - standing here and gawking at some guy who sees me as nothing more than a source of amusement. I shake my head and walk to the kitchen.
“I can make some tea or coffee if you want,” I offer since drooling over Ryan isn’t doing me anything good.
“Coffee sounds good,” he calls back from the hallway.
Even though he can’t see me I nod, and start brewing the coffee.
While waiting for it to be ready, I glance back over my shoulder, catching sight of Ryan’s towering figure in the doorway. I quickly avert my gaze, cheeks burning. Why am I so attracted to this guy?
“So,” he begins cautiously as he walks into the room, his eyes scanning me as he calmly leans against the wall on the opposite side. His thick arms are crossed over his broad chest. “Why did you slap me?”
My breath catches as his question settles in. I know I should just tell him the truth, but there is no simple answer. I mean, how can I explain to him that I’m a broken PTSD victim in a few simple words?
“I thought...” I pause, unsure of how to put my emotions down to words without sounding like a wimp. “I thought you were going to hurt me,” I finally admit in a whisper.
Ryan is quiet for a moment before responding softly, “And why would you think that?”
“Because...” I swallow hard before looking up at him. “Because that’s what everyone in the pack does.” Including your brother.
Ryan seems taken aback by my answer; his eyebrows draw together, and there is this sadness in his eyes that makes my chest tighten with regret.
“No one should expect to get hurt by others, not even the pack’s Omega,” he says in such a sincere tone that I almost believe him. He straightens up from the counter, his tall frame casting a long shadow in the dimly lit kitchen. “That’s not fair.”
I grow nervous as he approaches me. I’m unsure if it’s because he looks a lot like Ashton or if I’m a victim of his beauty...or maybe I’m scared and shrinking into myself because he is so much bigger than me.
Regardless of which, I shouldn’t be into him. He is out of my league: tall and hot, while I’m short with dark, messy hair and a body desperately needing muscle. I don’t look like a werewolf at all. Neither am I pretty. My nose is too big, and my eyes are brown, which means plain and boring.
“So,” I say, determined to change the conversation. “I-I haven’t seen you around. Are you a member of the pack?”
Amusement washes over his face, but he doesn’t laugh or even smile at me. There is just this gleam in his eye that can be best described as entertainment as he looks down at me.
“No,” he purses his lips as if hesitating before they form a curious smirk. “What do you think of hybrids?”
What kind of question is that?
I wrinkle my nose. “They are people, just like you and me, but they are often very dangerous.”
“Mhm,” his lips twitch. “I’m actually Ashton’s half-brother. We share the same dad, but not the same mother,” the gleam in his eye intensifies, and I stand perfectly still when he brushes some hair away from my forehead. “My mother was a vampire—I’m a hybrid, and Ashton? He doesn’t know that I’m here.”
“Wha-what?”
Suddenly, I’m pushed up against the wall, heart pounding fast underneath Ryan’s big hand. I look up at him and see him licking his lips, revealing his sharp canine teeth.
Frightened, I press my back against the wall, gluing myself to it. “P-please don’t hurt me...”
“I won’t,” his voice is charming, and goosebumps prickle over my skin when he leans down to whisper in my ear. “But...do you mind if I have a taste of your blood? You smell so sweet.”
My mouth opens and closes. I don’t know what to do. Every instinct is telling me to run. But…there is nowhere to go. So, what do I do?
I wouldn’t be able to fight this guy. Ryan’s biceps are thicker than my thighs. This guy is built like a freaking Alpha, maybe more than Ashton, and that’s the scariest part. I thought I stood a chance with some of the werewolves I’ve run into because we were of a similar height or weight. So I fought back when they bullied me, hoping my desperation to survive would make up for how thin I was, but it never did.
This guy? He would snap me like a twig. I stand no chance against him, but I have to get out of this situation somehow. PTSD or not, it’s time to put on my big girl panties and handle this!
I narrow my eyes at Ryan. “No.”
He falls silent for a moment before smirking. “Come on. Just a quick little bite.”
“No.”
“A little nibble then?”
I briefly consider it before I remember how painful all those bites looked like in all of the movies I’ve seen.
I wet my lips. “...does that still include you sinking your long teeth into my neck in that creepy vampire way?”
His lips twitch. “Yeah?”
“Then no.”
He chuckles. “It won’t hurt. I promise.”
Is it just me, or is he no longer pressing me against the wall with as much force?
“No means no,” I sound more confident now, even if I have Ryan staring down at me like I’m freshly cooked bacon. “I don’t want you eating me.”
His hand casually wanders to rest on the wall above my head. It makes me feel like I’m prey caught by a scary predator. “That so?”
“Mhm.”
“Women usually don’t mind.”
“...is that a sexual joke?”
“Maybe?”
“Well, you can’t bite me.”
He looks down at my neck, his eyes tracing my veins with vivid fascination before his intense gaze slowly moves up to my lips. They remain there for a heated second before he returns to staring straight into my eyes. “And what happens if I do it anyway?”
“Then I will...then I will be forced to fight you!” I blurt out, which is so embarrassing. I would never be able to beat Ryan in a goddamn fight!
He knows it, too, and stares at me, unmoving. For a long moment, I think he is going to burst out laughing and teach me a lesson. Just reach for my neck with his strong hand and choke the life out of me.
Instead, he breathes a laugh. “Did you just threaten me? Fuck me, that’s so cute.”
Cute?!
“Fuck you,” I tell him, frightened. I’m certain he is playing games with me. Who thinks it’s cute when someone threatens them? This man is insane!
“Fuck me?” Ryan is looking like he is trying not to laugh at me again. “Is that something you would like? Because I think you’re cute—I wouldn’t mind if you advanced on me.”
My eyes widen and a maddening blush spreads over my face. Did I hear that correctly? And if I did, then it’s worse than I thought: this man is out of his goddamn mind. Nobody wants to fuck an Omega or be fucked by them, but...it doesn’t look like he is joking.
Sally “No,” I splutter, barely able to keep my voice steady. I’m afraid of Ryan, but I’m not a coward. There is a big difference. “Just no.” Ryan tilts his head, those vibrant blue eyes sparkling with amusement. “Well, if you change your mind...” His voice trails off, leaving the sentence hanging in the air like an invitation. “I won’t.” I stand firm, crossing my arms over my chest. It’s a defensive gesture, but it makes me feel safer and more in control, even though I know control is an illusion. His smirk deepens as he steps back, releasing me from the heated trap of his body. His hand lifts from the wall above my head, and I’m confused. “You... you’re just going to let me go?” I ask in disbelief. All that, and he is just going to respect me? Wow. I really didn’t expect that from the likes of him. Ryan chuckles. “I’m as shocked as you are. I usually take what I want.” “Then why didn’t you?” His lips curve higher, forming dimples on either side of his stupidly sexy mouth. “I h
Sally I park my car right outside Ashton’s mansion and look up at the tall building with a jarring feeling in my chest. This is the place where Ashton and I made love. This is also the place where he rejected me and ordered his men to take me to the pack doctor to have an abortion. It’s painful being here, like a death sentence, really. Sighing, I get out of my car and enter the building, freezing when I see a beautiful pregnant woman wearing a white dress. She must be the woman Ashton thought was a much worthier partner than me. I can see it in her eyes, the absolute confidence. She purses her lips and walks towards me, chin held high. “You must be Sally the Omega,” she says. It’s clear that she doesn’t think much of me. “I’ve heard so much about you. You’re to be our new nanny, yes?” “Yes, I’m—” “Don’t talk! Just nod for yes or shake your head for no. I won’t have a measly Omega talk to me. You are way too weak to be taken seriously. Do you understand?” I blink at her for a mo
Sally It’s been a long week working for Lady Blair. For a second there, I thought the week would never end, so after I’m done with my shift, I’m so relieved. I’ve cleaned every nook and cranny of this huge mansion. I’ve spent an incredible amount of hours doing it, too, but tomorrow I’m free. And it’s much needed. I walk briskly to my room on the top floor. The room is dimly lit, with spider nests in every corner. It needs to be cleaned, but I’m too tired for that. I bury my head in the pillow and let my walls crash down. All day, I’ve been forced to put on a brave front, but not here. Now that I’m alone, I’m free to let the storm blow over. I no longer have to pretend I’m unaffected by all of this. I can cry in peace and let my walls cave down. And who can blame me for sobbing like a baby? My life is terrible! I’m living in the same mansion as the mate who rejected me. His new woman is my master. She is pregnant. I’m to become their nanny. Do you know what the sickest part i
SallyRyan’s voice, sultry and teasing, washes over me. “Did you like it when I dashed us through the forest?” He has this insufferable smirk plastered on his face, radiating such over-the-top confidence that I’m half-tempted to knock him down a peg or two. But, fuck it, the truth is I loved it. I loved the feel of him - all muscle and raw power - as he cradled me close against his chest and tore through the trees with his surreal vampire strength. Every gust of wind blasting against my skin made me feel electric with life, but hell would have to freeze over before I would admit any of this to Ryan.Despite his god-like appearance and vampire charm, I still don’t fully trust him. Taking me out on this date is probably him trying to make me trust him to betray me later. Maybe even persuade me to betray my pack at some point? That won’t happen, though. I’m just here to have fun.“Not too shabby,” I say, managing to keep my face impassive and lips devoid of any smile—no sign whatsoever t
SallyIt’s been an hour since Ryan and I arrived at the club, and so far, I’m not enjoying my time. Raven and her friend, Jessica, are sitting on either side of Ryan, and both of them seem interested in the handsome hybrid.“And then Laura said she would try to drink her blood from a wineglass next time...”My eyes narrow as I listen to Raven’s story. She and Jessica are regular vampires, but Ryan’s hybrid status doesn’t seem to scare them. Quite the contrary. They are VERY into him, and Raven is currently squeezing his muscular arm through his shirt as if she owns the man.“I see,” Ryan says without looking at any of the women sitting beside him. Instead, he is studying my face as if searching for something. A reaction, maybe?Well, then he will be left disappointed because he won’t be getting one from me. I don’t care that he is surrounded by women. Not one bit. The more the merrier, right?‘Aren’t you jealous?’ Ryan asks through telepathy.I swallow thickly before thinking my answe
Sally When I walk up to the mansion after my night out with Ryan, I’m not too surprised to see that Ashton is waiting for me by the gates. I had a feeling someone would go and check on the guards. Ashton crosses his thick arms over his chest. “Where the hell have you been?! Do you know what time it is?” He is using his Alpha tone that’s made me shake in fear a billion times before. But I’m not consumed by fear, not tonight. I’ve spent hours with Ryan, someone who is far more dangerous than Ashton. So, it’s honestly a waste of time being afraid of my Alpha. So, instead of being afraid of Ashton, I’m irritated by his presence and roll my eyes. “It’s really none of your business.” “Oh, it is my business!” he spits out. “You’re a member of my pack, and you’re also working for me—I own you and demand to know where you’ve been!” My eyes narrow. “I was at the rave club downtown.” “The vampire club?!” there is a vein on Ashton’s forehead that looks about ready to burst. Poor guy needs t
RyanI’ve never been in love. Why? Because I don’t age. I’ve lived for...I don’t know how many years. I just know that I’m stuck as a twenty-five-year-old guy forever, and because of this, I decided never to make a woman mine. I don’t want to watch them age. It would hurt too much.Instead, I told myself that my mother and half-brother were the only two people I needed in my life. But my mother was murdered by my half-brother’s pack a year ago, and my half-brother? Well, he is no longer considered a close friend of mine. I call him little brother to tease him, but in reality, I’m the older one. Not that it matters. After I’ve murdered him and his pack, I won’t have any relatives left. But lately, there’s been one person I can’t get out of my head. Sally the Omega has been haunting my thoughts for days now. It’s strange; I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. I’m the bad guy in the story for crying out loud! I don’t do feelings. But here I am with a different woman in my arms, a
Sally“Don’t you want to hold your baby?” the pack doctor asks Blair for the second time.“Uh, no?” Blair responds from her bed and laughs. “I mean, I’ve been pregnant for two months already. Can’t I get a freaking break?”The doctor looks stunned.Blair has just given birth to a beautiful daughter inside her own room. The whole childbirth took less than an hour with the pack doctor’s magic. Blair isn’t in any pain at all, which must be why the pack doctor is so surprised about her unwillingness to tend to her own baby.I’m not surprised. Not even a little bit. Blair never had a maternal aura about her, and I am aware that postpartum depression is a real issue for many women after childbirth. It can manifest as intense feelings of sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion that linger long after the baby is born. But this isn’t postpartum.Blair is just a diva who doesn’t have time for babies. She is already typing on her phone, probably planning on drinking now that she isn’t pregnant, while t
LaraMere minutes before my ceremony is about to start, I’m grimacing at my appearance in the mirror. My strawberry blonde hair is gathered in a braid that cascades over one shoulder. It gives me a tame look that I’m not sure if I like. I’m a warrior, not a beautiful and laidback Luna.“You’re so gorgeous,” Lydia says from behind me. She is the one who did my hair and makeup. It’s been done skillfully, and I’m grateful, but I can’t help but feel like I’m looking at a stranger in the mirror. A stranger who is too beautiful and pretty to be me. Even my otherwise wild, green eyes look tame, and I’m not sure if I like that. Everyone knows I’m a wild card, not a dainty damsel. Yet, the look is appealing in its own way. It’s a version of me I never thought I’d see - a version I must embrace for the sake of today’s ceremony.“I look...not like myself,” I comment, tracing my fingers over the smooth line of my cheekbone, over the glittering rogue or whatever it’s called that Lydia has expertl
LaraTelling Ashton that I’m willing to become his Luna made him so happy that he kissed me in front of Ryan and Sally without a care in the world. It’s wild how he has evolved from a cold-hearted Alpha to the sweet and loving mate that he is today. And in such a short time!“I’m going to shower,” Ashton announces as I’m brushing my hair in front of the big mirror inside of his room. I don’t even turn his way. “Okay.”He doesn’t move. “Don’t you want to…join me?”I finally look his way and take in his more than desirable body. He is dirty from the war, but the blood and grime somehow only end up making him look sexier. I smirk at him, admiring the mischievous twinkle in his eyes. “Maybe,” I tease. “If you promise not to get too handsy with me.”He chuckles. “Too handsy? Since when is that a problem? You like being worshipped.”“I do, don’t I?”“Mhm, so what’s the real issue?”I grimace. “I guess I’m nervous about tomorrow.”“Don’t be. The ceremony will be fun and more like a party th
Lara“I can’t believe it’s over,” Ryan says as we follow him inside Ashton’s mansion. “Yeah, it sure feels surreal,” Ashton agrees as he grabs a towel from one of the shelves in the hallway. We are all still naked, but that isn’t the reason for the knot on my belly.I’m actually more nervous about meeting Sally than I was about facing Parisa and her army. She is my best friend, yet I haven’t told her that Ashton and I are together. “Hey, you,” Ryan places a hand on my shoulder as if reading my mind. “Don’t worry about my mate. She already knows that you and Ashton are mates, and she isn’t angry.”I blink up at him. “She’s not?”“No,” he grins. “Sally and I are happily mated, and we have a newborn son now—she sure as hell doesn’t love Ashton anymore and is probably happy that he has found his mate.” Ryan’s words make me feel more at ease, and I shiver when I feel Ashton hugging me from behind. He nibbles at my neck before whispering, “You did good out there.”I smile and lean back i
LaraInstinct takes over, and I dart to the left, watching as the arrow streaks past and buries itself into a tree behind me. Now, who the hell is the bastard behind that attack? I could have fucking died! With my heart drumming inside my chest, I lock eyes with Harri. He is wearing his mask, yet I can tell he is grinning behind it as he pulls out another arrow from his quiver. My eyes narrow. I can’t let this crazy idiot shoot again. I’m convinced the first shot was only to play around with me, while the second is going to be one meant to kill me. ‘Lydia!’ I shout through the mind-link. ‘Can I get a little help with this pureblood over here?’Lydia’s response is immediate. ‘Hold on, I’m coming!’In the next moment, she joins the fray. In a blur of fur and deadly grace, Lydia launches herself at Harri. Her claws flash in the dark as she aims for Harri’s bow. In a fluid movement, Lydia knocks it from his grasp with a growl that shakes the very air around them.Harri retaliates quickl
LaraEven after an hour has passed, I’m still bathing in the afterglow of the sex I had with Ashton. We are both naked in the field, careless and free. I’ve long forgotten about Parisa and her vampire army marching in on our pack’s territory, but I’m about to get a wake-up call. Soon, I hear wolves howling in the background—wolves from our pack that are telling us enemies are approaching. Ashton immediately stands up. “Fucking shit. Parisa and Harri are here and…fuck…what do I do? I want to fight alongside my pack, but they still haven’t seen the new me.”I stand up with him. “Don’t worry. They will accept you as their Alpha, even if you’re a dragon now.”“Are you sure about that?”I shrug. “Well, dragon fire is able to melt vampires, and I think we could both agree that your pack wants to live, so…yeah. I think they will be fine with your new self.”He nods before asking, “And what about you? I know that we have marked each other and all that, but… you’re not freaked out about me be
AshtonI wake up in a field, disoriented and bloated. It looks like my eight-pack is trying to push its way from my stomach. And wait, why the hell am I naked? What happened yesterday?"Oh great, you're finally awake," Lara comments from the ground. She looks extremely tired and is practically plastered to the ground."What the hell happened to you?" I ask, half amused by how her eyes trail up my body in pure appreciation. "I fought with a very stubborn and massive dragon," she replies and sighs. "He wanted to eat every burger inside of McDonald's, and I couldn't stop him."Is she high or something?I snort. "A dragon?""Uh-huh, you.""Me?""You were the dragon…you are the dragon.""What are you talking about?"Her eyes narrow, and I'm baffled when her expression turns into pure irritation. "Wow. You really don't remember?" "Remember what?" I'm lost…"You died, Ashton. You were murdered by Parisa and her vampire army, but somehow, you came back to life as a dragon. I've been taking c
LaraAfter Sally and Ryan has taken a look at Ashton, we are sent to a barn. Ashton is way too big to sleep anywhere else and according to Ryan, he needs to fully grow before he can take the shape of a human again. If he did it now, he would be a child, and that would be awkward, so I won't force him to shape-shift until he is ready. "Alright, big guy," I flick on the light in the barn and gesture at the big empty space. "You won't be cramped in here, and look, there is plenty of space for you to grow!"'This is home?' Ashton's voice echoes in my head, filled with innocent curiosity."Not quite, but it's going to be our temporary home until you are fully grown and ready to shift back," I explain, ruffling the scales on his snout. "Plus, I don't think you'd fit through the front door of the mansion."He gives a grunt of agreement and swivels his head around inspecting the barn. High ceilings supported by dark wooden beams extend above us. There is hay everywhere and Ashton circles arou
Lara After managing to convince my dragon friend to stay behind, I shift back into my wolf form and follow the scent of a nearby herd of deer. Their smell is fresh in the air and it doesn’t take long to find them. The hunt is swift. With the enhanced speed and strength of a wolf, I manage to quickly take down a large buck, biting deep into its side. After making sure the deer has passed, I drag it back towards my dragon friend, leaving a trail of scattered leaves in my wake. When I return, I see the dragon shifting uncomfortably from one foot to another. His eyes light up as he sees me dragging the deer. ‘Food!’ I shape-shift back into a human. “Yup, feel free to dig in—” The dragon rushes past me without warning, gobbling down the entire thing at the speed of light. His tail moves from side to side after he is done, and I see his back muscles expanding as he grows larger. “Um... Did you even taste that?” I ask him, baffled at the speed at which he devoured the deer. ‘More?’ He
LaraLater the same evening, my dragon friend is eating some fish I caught in the river. He is tiny and I doubt he will finish everything I caught, but at least he won’t go starving.“Easy there, little guy,” I tell him while wandering deeper into the cave we found. “I don’t want you to eat too much and explode.”The dragon doesn’t even look up from the fish, and I giggle before shape-shifting back into a wolf. Since I don’t have any clothes, it’s more comfortable sleeping as a wolf, and this way, I can also keep my new friend warm.I find a place in the corner and close my eyes. I’m sure my dragon friend will join me soon…When I awake, the first thing I note is how peculiarly snug I am. The cave that was once hollow and vast now feels oddly close, as though the walls have folded inwards to encroach upon us during our slumber. Bewildered, I raise my head and look around, my eyes adjusting to the dim light filtering in from the entrance of the cave. It takes me a moment to comprehend
