"I don't understand why we need to stay in a place where four hundred people were killed," Sarah complained as she walked behind Neon.

"Perhaps because it's not safe out there, and there might be a coven of witches waiting to decapitate the first person who steps out of this place," Neon replied, her head lowered over a map she held.

"What's the difference between staying here and going out there, considering we have a mass murderer among us?" Sarah retorted, hurrying to block Neon's way.

Neon halted and sighed, rolling up the map. She fixed her eyes on Sarah. "The mass murderer here had a reason for those killings. The witches out there, who have likely done worse, will see us as a threat as soon as Hezell brings down the barrier and will kill us."

Sarah opened her mouth to respond but quickly closed it. She turned her gaze away and asked, "How can you not be afraid of Hezell?"
