GABE

I’d been staring at the same papers for ten minutes, trying to make sense of the reports, but the numbers and words blurred into nonsense. The knot in my gut twisted tighter–a familiar feeling that gnawed at me whenever things were about to go wrong. I was used to it by now, but this wasn’t about the crumbling state of business or the rogue attacks along the borders. It was something else. Something worse. A knock on my office door pulled me out of my daze.

“Come in,” I said, my voice rougher than usual, a sharp edge of irritation that I didn’t bother hiding.

Yesmen stepped in, holding an envelope in her hand, her usual composed expression faltering just slightly. Yesmen never faltered, not in the years she had worked for me. She was the most professional, by-the-book person I had on staff. I sighed, already feeling the headache creeping in. I knew what this was about. I’d been avoiding it. Avoiding her. But here it was, right in front of me, waiting to be dealt with.

I'm also wondering why Mila chose as an artistic alias the same name of the woman that may have ploted her parent's demise. Amelie, Emilia and Emily are the same Latin name, Æmilia.

I like the fact that Gabe now knows, so this arc will not drag. It also made me wonder if the little boy is really his... He could be Tyler's, I don't know. The way Tyler talked a few chapters back, "they took something from me", made me wonder what was it.
