“Life’s victims can’t be choosers.”

Daisy’s POV

The dark cloud looking over the kingdom was my father’s presence. And to avoid him, I restricted my movement to places I knew I wouldn’t run into him or Astrid.

The paranoia I felt, had me locking the door behind me, wedging the door with a chair.

I had changed my eating schedule to work around the time I wouldn’t have to run into them and that meant I was skipping out on meals.

“Daisy,” Brittany’s voice called, pounding gently on her door.

I winced as I slowly moved to the door, “that’s a lot of locks,” Brittany commented, listening to me trying to open the door.

The playful look on Brittany’s face was wiped off as she noticed the broken look on my face.

Brittany closed the door, “please lock it,” I whispered, my voice dripping with fear.

Brittany nodded, twisting the locks in place and rushing to sit beside me in the bed.

“What happened?” she asked, her fingers gently poking on my scars as she examined them.
