“Talking turns to screaming. I opened my big mouth and I've said too much. Oops.”
I looked like a deer caught in headlight. My palms felt sweaty and my heart felt like an orchestra of drums. The Alpha King was nothing like the stories I have heard. His piercing blue-gray eyes looked like he was looking into my soul. But that wasn’t the most shocking revelation, “what are you doing here?” I spluttered. “having dinner with Astrid and her father,” he replied, his eyes racking through the wine displayed. “you are the Alpha King?” I asked, blinking in confusion. “But, you,” I stammered. “nice to meet you again Daisy,” he said, with a smirk on his face. "There you are," Astrid voice called out from the stairway. "I was looking for you, come on, dinner is about to start," Astrid said, pulling his attention away from me. For once I felt grateful for her interference, my heart raced in fear of my fate if it became known of my entanglement with Hades. I picked the first wine my hands could reach and rushed out of the cellar. The disapproving stare miss Ruth sent my way was evident that I had yet again given her a reason to fault my every move. My father had relinquished his seat at the head of the table to the Alpha King. It was strange seeing my father look so small beside the powerful Alpha King. Astrid and Lyra talked in low tones as the men discussed politics. Astrid looked flawless in the emerald gown she had on, her blue eyes sparkling under the chandelier. I sometimes wished I had her eyes, rather than the green eyes I had, that reminded everyone of my mother. I kept my head down, avoiding any eye contact with the Alpha King, as I nervously played with my fingernails, scared of the outcome if my father should catch whiff of my insubordination. "Miss Ruth, you are dismissed," Astrid said. With a curt bow, we all walked out of the dining room. My body relaxed as it reached the door, just a few more minutes and I'd be on my bed. "Daisy, you wouldn't mind staying back right," Astrid said, smiling sweetly at me. Lyra looked at her in confusion, a proof that whatever she had up her sleeves wasn't planned. "Yes Astrid," I replied, shutting the door against my freedom. I leaned by the wall, my stomach rumbling as I watched them eat. "We could all survive without the music from your stomach Daisy," Lyra snickered. My cheeks flushed in embarrassment, " I'm sorry," I whispered. The hours seemed to drag on as I watched them talk and laugh. I stood quietly watching as each laugh had a gentle touch or a nudge, werewolves were physical beings, I could only imagine what it felt like to be touched without feeling pain. "Daddy," Astrid voice cut through, interrupting his discussion with the Alpha king. "I have a special announcement," she all but squealed. " The Alpha king has asked me to be his bride," she said, her voice vibrating with excitement. My father's eyes widened in pleasure, his arms wrapped around my sister as he hugged her tightly to his body. I felt lost, my eyes met Hades hoping he would deny it. But the half smile on his face, felt like it had sucked the air right out of me. "This is great news," our packs beta smiled, exchanging a sly grin with my father, who nodded in return. "We should tell the pack of this glorious union," my father said. " It's the wolf moon tomorrow, we can announce the union during the ceremony," my father's beta suggested. All through the shouts and shrill, my eyes were fixed on Hades. My eyes were filled with hurt as it glimmered with tears. His eyes found mine, confusion dancing in his eyes as he observed me. I quickly averted my gaze, wiping the tear that had escaped. And I fixed my eyes on the window behind him. "Daisy, aren't you happy for me?" Astrid asked, in a sickening sweet voice. "I am, congratulations Astrid," I said, clearing my throat. Astrid smiled in pleasure, " I know, I deserve it," she muttered, smiling dreamily as she leaned into the Alpha King. “Astrid has never failed to make me proud,” my father praised. "Hades," Astrid called, brushing a strand of hair on his face. “I don’t think you have met my sister, Daisy,” Astrid introduced. Hades eyes widened, and his brows knitted in confusion, “ Daisy,” he greeted. “She’s an omega,” Lyra blurted. I lowered my head in shame, “she is not important,” Astrid giggled, quickly kissing his lips, as she led him out of the dining room. "Clean up and get out," my father's voice boomed. My eyes looked around the empty dining room, it was obvious I had shut them out. I quickly cleaned the table, my stomach growling in protest. I hid a few berries in my pocket, “how would a few berries quench the monster in your stomach," Hades said. I shrieked in surprise, the glass slipping from my hand and smashing against the cold floor. I fell to my knees, quickly picking up the piece with shaky hands, "I'm sorry, Alpha, you startled me," I said in a tiny voice. I winced feeling the glass pierce through my skin, " leave it," he commanded, pulling me up from my crunched down position. "You are a walking disaster," he muttered, his eyes crinkling in amusement as he wraped my fingers with a paper towel to help stop the bleeding. Cold shivers ran down my spine as his hands touched mine. My body jolted, heat engulfing me instantly from the warmth of his touch. My body had also remembered him and not just my mind. "Do you have other words apart from sorry?" He asked, his warm breath fanning the outer shell of my ear. I closed my eyes, my body leaning slightly on his hard chest. "I'm sorry, Alpha" I stuttered out again. His low chuckle rumbled through his chest, and vibrating through my body, sending jolts of shock waves through me. His laugh sounded like oceans waves clashing on a calm summer night. “Hades,” he corrected. I was suddenly drown in a sea of nostalgia, his voice unlocking the memories I had kept locked up for months. “do I still make you shiver?” he drawled, his chest rumbling as he spoke, sending shivers down my spine. “No, it’s just a cold night,” I lied, pulling away from him. “goodnight Alpha King,” I bowed. “good night Daisy," he whispered, walking out of the dimly lit room. I stood rooted in my spot watching his retreating figure. My body felt cold, missing the warmth his body provided. The cold finally cleared my fogged up mind, and I gasped at the thought, "I had a one night stand with my sister's boyfriend."“I wish I was something special. I don't belong here. I'm just a creep who lurks in the shadows.”My night had been haunted with a feverish montage of the feel of his touch, his lips and his gaze on my body. The bedspread twisted around my body as I tossed and turned, trying to escape the vivid images in my mind. The sun rose to find me staring out at the window. Shattering the illusions that had played in my mind like a loop.I had been through the path of heartbreak and heartache. They said strangers are the best listeners. Hades had been more than a listener, he was a giver who had taken every pain away and had replaced it with pleasure. My fingers glided through the palm his fingers had touched. His calloused hands held mine with so much gentleness and care.Tonight was going to be rough, I could feel it. I wished there was a way I could skip the festivities, but it was impossible to get away from it. The thought of Hades and Astrid together under the wolf moon was like a dagger t
“ I don't like your games, but yet again I stand at the line looking like a lost fool.”"What?" Astrid screamed, her nose flared in anger as she looked between Hades and I."I..I," I stuttered, my eyes widened in fear as I noticed the look of anger on my father's face."Alpha, father," I called, my eyes in a plea. The look of displeasure and anger mirrored the expression of every other pack member."What do you mean mate?" Astrid repeated, her pupils dilated as she marched over to me her hand curled into a fist.My head snapped back from the intensity of her punch. Blood gushed down my nostrils. "Astrid," I shrieked in shock, surprised at her actions."Slut," Astrid shouted."You did this," she hissed, her eyes narrowed." Astrid, please," I begged. My eyes moved to Hades who stood quietly on the platform watching as the scene unfolded before him."Hades," I called in a small voice, tears welling up in my eyes.I stared at him, silently pleading that he would put an end to the pain I
“They said not everything is about me. But why do their eyes follow me around?”Daisy’s POVI could hear their whispers with each step I took, their judgmental eyes scrutinizing every move I made.“How could she do that to her sister?” I heard someone whisper. No matter how hard I tried to make myself look small to stay hidden from their gaze, it was futile, the news had already spread and it was hanging over my head like a huge poster.Miss Ruth stood at the entrance her lips in a frown as she took in my appearance, my blood shot eyes and red cheeks were evidence of the unpleasant night I had.“You are late,” her cold voice broke through, if eyes were silver bullets I would have been drowning in a pool of my blood.“I’m sorry, I..” my voice croaked.“save your stories, get cleaned immediately, the council of elders are expecting you,” miss Ruth interrupted. The mention of the council of elders had my heart beating wildly in my chest. You must have to commit the highest form of treaso
“Guilty or innocent, my love is infinite. I have become a prisoner of fate.”Daisy’s POVMy reply had caused an uproar, the murmuring in the hall was deafening. Their disapproving stare was all too familiar now.It was as if the walls were closing in on me, “this can’t be,” one elder shouted, his voice higher than the others.“Silence,” Elder Yin roared, his voice echoing through the hall.My feet felt weak, it was like it was about to give out beneath me. Each bone in my body was screaming in pain.Elder Mark’s eyes were fixed on me, his eyebrows quirked as he noticed the discomfort on my face.“give her a chair,” he said to the guard.“she obviously looks like she needs it,” he shrugged.“Daisy,” Elder Yin called, his eyes narrowing as he leaned forward.“do you know what this means?” he asked.I shook my head no, my fingers playing with the hem of my dress, “it has been unheard of, the moon goddess has never given an omega to be mated to an alpha before, talk more of the Alpha King
“They say the road gets hard, and you get lost when you are led by blind faith.”Daisy’s POVCall me crazy but it felt like Hades had protected me back at the council hall. His intervention at the time, deflecting the attention from me when the question was asked had me grinning like a fool.I had decided to lock myself in, it was the only safe bet to avoid another run in with Lyra and her bunch of lackeys. My wrist had turned a nasty purple color but the fear of stepping out only made me ignore the pain.My head was filled with different scenarios of how Hades’ kingdom would be. I was eager for a fresh start, a clean slate maybe I would rebrand myself, smile more, yes smiling definitely helps in making new friends.“Goodbye you ugly looking gown,” I whispered to the maid’s outfit, “I dint think I will miss you either,” I muttered to the black shoe that had always left scars on my feet.I looked around the bare room, all that I owned was a few pieces of clothes and a pair of sandals.
“Like poison, love is vicious, and barely suspicious.”Daisy’s POV“Did you get your wrist checked out?” Hades asked from behind me. My eyes closed feeling the warmth from his body engulfing me.The cold morning breeze made a trail, weaving his scent through my body and filling my lungs with my latest addiction. “I didn’t have the time,” I replied, shaking my head to clear the fog that his presence had caused on my mind.“Come on,” he muttered, his fingers intertwining with my good wrist as he dragged me towards the direction of the pack’s clinic. My body felt alive under his touch. My eyes were focused on his broad back as he moved with such agility and grace. For all I knew he could be leading me to my execution and I would gladly follow him.“check her wrist, administer the right drugs to her,” he commanded the nurse.“yes Alpha King,” she replied with a curt bow.Hades’ presence in the corner of the room felt suffocating, his eyes were fixed on me, it felt like I was running out
“Put a price on emotion. Maybe then I could afford a minute of happiness.”Daisy’s POVI stood quietly watching the crowd welcome Astrid. “She is a beaut, isn’t it?” A voice said behind me.I jumped startled by the presence behind me, “goddess” I muttered.“Sorry, I tend to do that a lot,” the girl continued.“I’ve been told countless times that I should wear a bell around my neck but that would take the F right out of the fun,” she rattled.“Oh look at that, already yapping like a dog,” she laughed smacking her head.“Hi, I am Priya, you can call me Priya,” she finally introduced herself.“I’m Dai…”“ Daisy, I know, I mean everyone has heard of you, I must say your beauty supersedes your tale,” she stated, cutting me off.She must have noticed the grimace on my face, “no, no, I meant that in a good way, a few people are excited about the prospect of you being the Luna but the others, eh lets just call them the headless bunch,” she rambled.“I’m making it worse, aren’t I?” she sighed.
“Nothing I have, is truly mine.”Daisy’s POVOne thing was certain, Hades’ kingdom had a different dynamic from my pack. Miss Amy was like a mother figure to the maids in the servant quarters. She wasn’t as cold as miss Ruth had been.“Priya will show you to your room, breakfast is by six, during breakfast your duty will be read out to you” miss Amy said.“Thank you,” I replied, turning away from her.Our footsteps echoed against the cold tiles as we moved, the servant quarters looked exquisite like it was a castle.“This is bigger than my room in our pack,” I said, my eyes taking in the size of the room. The bathroom was twice of my former room.“I can’t imagine,” Priya said, shuddering like the thought had scared her.“So are these all your things,” she asked, pointing to the duffel bag that rested by the door.“Yes, that’s me,” I sighed. There wasn’t much from the pack to carry, I had lived my life like it was on rent, each day a fleeting uncertainty of what could have wouldn’t be
