“I need to visit my aunt before we go back to London.” Nico told us at dinner. It was a week after the hell we endured at the hands of the Frenchman. We stayed longer than expected because he’d wanted to help with the rebuilding of the packhouse.

Zane grunted his disapproval at the mention of Mariana. Or it could have been the idea that Nico wanted to go back to his mansion. Sanda and I were both in agreement that it didn’t matter where we went, as long as the five – soon to be six – were together.

It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that our lives would always be filled with danger. No matter where we went, because of who we were, who Nico was, danger would lurk around the corner. But I was no longer afraid. I was strong, I could protect myself and my babies. Nico and Sanda were formidable warriors. They would stop at nothing to protect what we had.
