Winter wind blanketed over me as I walked closer to the house that I once lived in. Blood trickled down my cheek from my head, but that wasn’t stopping me from getting closer to the nothingness of the house. The sound of Robin screaming in the house was drawing me closer. I wanted to help. I wanted to protect him, but there was nothing I could do. When I walked into the center of the house, I could see him cradled into a ball in a corner. A cloaked man was standing over him as he cried in his own arms. Ignoring my wound, I got closer and held Robin in my arms.
“You shouldn’t have come Riley. That’s what he wanted. I’M THE BAIT!” He scrambled out of my arms and tried to run, but the cloaked man grabbed him and slammed him onto the floor. Robin screamed in agony. I flinched and stood up to face the cloaked man. I couldn’t see his face, but I could hear his cold voice.
“Riley, I knew you would come. It is you that I need.”
Chills went up my spine as I backed up to see my brother’s still body behind him. He grabbed my neck and held me up. I could barely breathe with the cold skin of his hands gripped around my neck. Death seemed inevitable now. A bright light consumed the room and me as I heard Robin scream even louder. Robin was being tortured with nobody around to help him. Still in the air, I croaked Robin’s name and then I couldn’t see.
“Wake up! You’ll wake everybody!” My eyes quickly opened, and I jumped at the sight of Landon shaking me. His hands were ice, and his grip was starting to hurt. He let me go and I got my priorities straight. Tears were streaming down my face.
“God, what kind of dream were you having?” He really did look concerned.
I started to slow my breathing when I realized my head was killing me. Along with the tears, Blood was also running down my right cheek. I quickly started to scramble, but Landon pulled me down, back into my sleeping bag.
“Be still, let me bandage this. You must be a really rough sleeper,” Landon bandaged my head and finally let me go. When I was calm and settled, he started to talk to me again.
“I heard you screaming when I got back from…well, from hunting and I quickly came into your tent to see if everything was okay. I guess dreams can get a little extreme for you,” he finally sat next to me instead of kneeling.
“I-I’m fine. I’ve just had a difficult few days, so nightmares are inevitable. Is it still night?”
“It’s almost morning. Everybody will be waking soon.”
The dream lingered in my head and the thought of Robin’s scream made my head worse. Landon finally laughed and stood up. His laugh made me jump.
“The look on your face when you first saw me was priceless by the way,” he smiled, and it almost seemed cocky. Yes, he was very comely. His skin was pale, and he had those intriguing bright gray eyes. I assumed he was about my age, but his perfect structure made him look older. Everything about him was perfect, although, he didn’t need to be such a jerk about it. He was just like the other boys back at home, which make me dislike him even more. I gave him a gasp of disgust and walked out of the tent. Andrew was already by the fire that was once burning. He looked very drowsy but awake enough to see me angrily walking towards him. When he saw Landon come out of my tent, he stood up. He looked a little uneasy now. He pointed at my head and looked at him again. It must have been bleeding through.
“What the hell did you do to her? Strangle her and bite her head?!” Andrew started shaking, but Landon laughed and put his hand on my shoulder.
“She just had a bad dream, and I went to check on her. I didn’t do anything. She was already like that.”
“Bull Shit!”
I shook off his hand and walked towards Andrew.
“No, he’s telling the truth. He didn’t do anything but aggravate me.”
Landon chuckled and sat down. Andrew stopped shaking and began to stare at the ground where the fire would be.
“Why don’t you like him Andrew? What did he do that pissed you off?” I was sitting right next to him now and Landon was waiting in anticipation to hear this story. Andrew hesitated a little bit and still looked down.
“It’s not what he did, it’s who he is. It’s my nature to hate him.”
I was confused. He might have a cocky attitude, but that shouldn’t be enough to hate him. He’s only human.
“I’m a werewolf in case you didn’t notice before. Werewolves only have one enemy and that would be the leeches!” Landon stood up and looked at him.
“I told you before, I have a different diet! How many times do I have to tell you that?”
“No leech can be trusted!” Andrew stood up now. They were facing each other, and it looked like they were about to fight.
“Leech?” I said as I tried to get them to calm down. They both looked at me and sat back down. Landon smiled and explained.
“Proper word usage, I’m a vampire, but I’m different. I don’t drink human blood. That’s why I went hunting last night. I didn’t want to hurt anyone.”
Surprisingly, that didn’t scare me.
“Wow, that’s a lot to take in on one morning,” I laughed nervously.
I saw Jack and Marie walk out of their tent. When they got close enough, Jack looked at me and then he looked at Landon.
“I swear it wasn’t me. I already had this conversation with pup here.”
Andrew growled and looked down again.
“What happened!” Jack looked at me sternly. I forced a smile. Talking about the dream even hurt me.
“Bad dream? I didn’t know that I could hurt myself in my sleep.”
Jack looked at Marie and she nodded. Then, Jack grabbed my arm and knelt down.
“What was the dream?”
I explained everything to him, and I then noticed that I started to cry again.
“First fear,” he whispered and then stood up. Before I could even ask what he meant, he stood up and shrugged.
“Bad dreams can do that sometimes. It’s no surprise with the trauma you just witnessed with your family. We’ll probably have Landon watch you from now on just to be sure.”
Landon nodded with a cocky smile and Andrew flinched. The dream really did scare me. I wanted Robin to be safe. I guess I feared that he will be hurt or dead, but I wasn’t going to let this dream consume me.
I decided to shake the night off. It wasn’t too hard to forget about because I found it so amazing to watch Landon run with ease next to us and Andrew right behind him in wolf form. He seemed to be ready to pounce on him at any moment. Marie rode with me again and I again felt an overwhelming sense of calm with her presence. Honestly, it really did help me stop thinking about the pain the dream caused and the pain of my family. My head was still pounding with pain, and it was hard to keep focused anyway. Every time I looked up I felt dizzy and wanted to fall over, so I kept my head down, but occasionally looked at Landon or Andrew. Jack guided us out of the forest and into clear plains filled with grass and flowers. It took my breath away. The wind made the grass sway back and forth. It was like a lullaby for my eyes. I couldn’t help but look up to enjoy the beautiful scene.“Landon!” I heard Jack shout and then I
Gabe almost dived off his horse before Jack pulled him back. “Wait Gabe. We’ve got to make sure Landon’s in control.” Landon didn’t acknowledge the remark. He still paced back and forth shaking his head every now and then. “He’s ok.” Andrew said. Andrew had just changed back to human and was walking towards me. Gabe jumped off his horse and raced to me. He got to me before Andrew could. I was sitting on the ground, so he sat on my lap and wrapped his arms around my neck to hug me. That felt great. It almost felt like Robin in my arms again with smiles on our faces and the family still together. That was too much, so I concentrated on Gabe. He seemed worried. “Oh, I’m so glad you’re ok! What happened?” Gabe looked up at me. I felt so content with Gabe in my arms that I forgot my frustration with Landon. There was so much to say and a lot to explain, but I wasn’t the one that was going to. Landon was the one that knew what just happened. I gently moved Gabe out of my arms and
Robin's POV“What you mean you let them go?! Lucas, I thought I told you specifically that I wanted Landon and Riley in your grasp as soon as you saw them!” Frustrated, Logan picked up Lucas from the collar of his shirt. “Sir, I have Landon right at my grasp. I can feel it!” I looked at the strange looking man that was standing close to Logan. He saw Riley! He put him down and looked at him. “This has nothing to do with your group Lucas. This has to do with Riley remember? I must get it before she turns seventeen! Do you want to end up like the soldiers that I brought along to get the girl?”I gulped and stood up. “You won’t kill her will you?”They both turned to look at me. Lucas chuckled sickly, but Logan stopped him.
Riley's POVChapter 9: The Decision“Landon! No, get away!” I flinched when I woke up to see Landon staring at me. He had his hand on my cheek, but I pushed it away. “What? What happened?” He backed away and for the first time, he looked terrified. I scrambled to my feet and looked around. It had been days since I had my last dream, however, this one was horrid. We were still in the forest where I saw Lucas and his group. Jack decided to travel in the woods to be safe since Lucas worked for Logan. The morning was harsh with fog and cold air. I knew it was just a dream, but it felt so real.“Why did you do that? I told you to stop! And you charged at me anyway!” I slammed my fists into his chest. It felt like stone, but I didn’t care. He looked shocked so he let me hit him un
I couldn’t believe how much time had passed since yesterday. Nobody dared to speak much unless it was important, and we traveled all day yesterday without stopping. My legs ached from riding the horse because I wasn’t going to be carried by him anymore after that kiss. Even thinking about it felt painful. Gabe looked at me in sympathy a few times after he saw me flinch from pains and aches, but I kept looking straight ahead. “Okay, we’re here I believe.” Jack looked around as he dismounted his horse. I looked around and all I saw were trees and flying leaves. This couldn’t be it.Gabe dismounted and looked around also, but in disappointment. “This is it? It can’t be! Where’s all the magic?” He walked around the small area."Oh, we’re here.” Landon walked further into the area and pressed against the air. &ld
I didn’t sleep that night. My mind went crazy with the things I learned the other day. As I listened to the night’s song, I could hear Andrew snoring lightly and Landon pacing outside of my tent. How was I going to avoid my feelings with him when he was in love with me? I pushed that thought aside and thought about Robin for the rest of the night. Oh, how I missed him. If I thought hard enough, I could see him smiling at me with his warm brown eyes. He got his eyes from mom. The thought soothed me for a few moments until I could see the sun slowly rising. The sun’s beams glowed through my tent like a warm welcome to the day, but it didn’t feel that way. It felt like my personal prison burning a hole in my flesh. Nothing seemed to be helping me anymore. I pulled the door to the tent aside to see Landon sitting in front of a fire he must have made. It looked like he was cooking something with his hand because it was in the fire without any problems. I w
Chapter 12: The ControlLogan had Lucas by his collar in the air enraged again. “You imbecile! You almost lost my chances to have the power that she possesses. All I asked for is for you to do is make my plan follow through, not kill her! I swear to you if she dies, you will too, mark my words!” He threw him to the ground and stared at him. Lucas looked terrified, but patient. “Master don’t worry your plan will work! The boy that I have will be bait to lure her in without force. Just like you predicted. I just…lost control for a second. She will survive the wolf stopped me in time.” He pointed at the body that was lying on the ground. This wasn’t the boy that I saw in the vision. I looked at Logan and his expression changed. Hayden sat next to me smiling. I smiled back. This had to be a dream. I saw him dead in his own home. He leaned in to kiss me, but he stopped. His face turned white, and he pointed at something behind me. I turned and saw the cloaked man standing a few feet from me. I grabbed Hayden’s hand, but he didn’t grab back. I turned and saw him still. I touched his face and realized it had turned into polished stone. I quickly turned back at the cloaked man.“You turn Hayden back right now!” I said, but he just laughed.“You have t-,” he stopped talking and turned around. There was nothing there, but he seemed startled. Suddenly, the room changed into a gentle meadow. I could see Robin on the other side.“Oh, Robin! You’re okay!” I ran to him, but he stopped me. “No time! Riley, you can’t believe an
*Landon's POV* "Lucas, you can have me please just leave Riley alone!" I pleaded as the urge to kill her worsened in my being. Lucas chuckled loudly over the wind, showing the pleasure he is feeling from my pain. "Do you not realize that this was my plan all along? As soon as I sensed the love you had for this girl I knew this was my way back into your being. So when master Logan made the command to have this girl killed at the precise moment of her change, I knew this would be a perfect plan. He needs someone to kill her right when her power shows itself so he can take it for himself! I was going to do it for him, but this is so much better. Master Logan gets his power, and I get you back. It's perfect!" Lucas bellowed triumphantly at his plan and I could feel his grip growing tighter on me.The dark dread that flowed within me deepend, realizing that there was no way out now. Lucas was going to win. I really am about to kill Riley, the only girl that I have truly
***Landon's POV*** Hayden was fast, but not fast enough to escape from the intense rage that flowed through my body. I easily caught up to him, grabbed his neck, and tackled him to the ground. I was ready to rip him to shreads for what he did to Riley, but I heard a loud raspy laugh vibrate against my hand. "I knew the extra things I did to her would make you blindly chase me. Did I do well Lucas?" I suddenly grew stiff and a burning hot sensation magnified through my body, causing me to let Hayden go. Damnit, I put my guard down. Lucas now has complete control of me. "Yes, my boy you did very well. You will be rewarded!", Lucas's voice boomed over the falling rain, emerging from a brush of trees. I watched Hayden smile at me and he got up and jogged next to Lucas. The rest of the group slowly emerged and stood behind him, all snickering exept for Cody, who was close to tears. "Landon! Had you forgotten when you get vulnerable around me I can eas
Chapter 17: Collision I fought against the burning of my lungs from running for so long and pushed myself to run even further. I had to run fast and far enough to be out of Andrew’s view of my thoughts, but my fighting ended up failing and I collapsed in a little clearing that seemed to be far away from where we were. I sobbed while catching my breath and held myself tight against my chest. The pain of loss was overwhelming and what made it worse was that I was on my own now. No parents. No Jack. No Gabe. No Marie. No Andrew. No Landon. And no Robin. I was completely alone in a world that I did not understand. Suddenly, everything around me was broken and I had no way of fixing it. Because I was the reason for it all. And the crazy thing was…I still didn’t even know why. Thunder roared across the sky, and I looked up. The stars were gone, and dark clouds flooded around me. Little drops of rain fell on my face and I closed my eyes. As the rain steadily came down h

Riley's POV“I swear! I can smell him Jack! Please let me investigate!” Andrew pleaded almost sounding like he was whining like a dog. I peeked through the tent door and saw Andrew shaking furiously. I would have gone out there, but I was still not allowed to leave the tent. Jack had his arms folded in argument and was shaking his head. Andrew was angry and eager. I could see it in his body language. I could see Landon in the corner of my eye and saw no expression on his face. He was completely blank which really bothered me.“Absolutely out of the question, it could be a trap since you can’t hear his thoughts!” Jack practically screamed at him, and Andrew looked like he was about to change. Then, I heard a light whimper coming from behind my tent and light growling. I immediately stormed out of the tent and that caught both Jack and Andrew’s attention. They called my name, but I paid no attention. I looked b
Robin's POV"Please let me go! They will worry about me!” They all laughed at him and shoved him next to me. He was crying and holding his hand that was wrapped in a white cloth. He tried to get up, but I pulled him down again.“Trust me, you don’t want to run. They will hurt you in a way you didn’t know possible,” I let him go and he cried even harder. He looked at me and his eyes widened.“A-are you R-Robin?” he sniffled out and calmed a little. I looked at him confused.“Yes, but how do you know that? Were you with Riley? Is she ok?” I spoke fast. I was excited to talk to someone who saw her. He smiled slightly and wiped the tears from his eyes.“Yes, I was with Riley and I’m not sure if she’s ok. She was screaming before I got kidnapped. Landon went to go get her because Jack was not around. I hope she’s okay,
I ran after him, but I wasn’t fast enough to catch him. Fortunately, Landon could run faster than all of us and caught him with one hand. Jack stopped struggling and went almost limp. I couldn’t help the sympathy that overwhelmed me, but my anger still boiled inside me. I had enough of secrets. I just found out that my own mom had to keep secrets from me. I walked towards Jack and stared at him. He wasn’t crying, but his eyes were glassy. He looked at me with a look that I didn’t recognize. It wasn’t hatred or sadness. My expression faded into a puzzled look. I looked down to the ground.“You have a lot of explaining to do if you want to figure all this out with me by your side. I will now stay with all these secrets,” I looked up and saw that Landon let him go and Jack was standing close to me shaking. He nodded and his expression changed into the normal expression Jack always had, but a small smile was placed with it.&
