Two thousand years ago in the Seniorem coven, I and Aurora were the most powerful members of the coven and engaged to be married. However, I faked being in love with her so that she along with the coven members would create an elixir for immortality. 

I was in love with Amara and it was so strong that my love for her was the major motive behind accepting Amara's request to create the very first spell of immortality with the help of Aurora, who was also a very powerful witch and also madly in love with me.

In order to get help to create the spell, I manipulated and convinced Aurora that I loved her and wanted to spend an eternity with her.
