"Papa, tell me this isn't true. Are you doing this again?" Hot tears trickled down her cheeks as her lips trembled and a small whimper escaped from them.
She dug her fingertips into the chair while she stared at her father as he hung his head. He gave her no reply. Just like he hadn't given her any since she walked in.
His reply only meant that it was true.
"This can't be true." She whimpered reliving how her father had run into different debts in the past which she used her hard-earned money to clear.
It wasn't an easy time for her because she had to go through a lot to get the money. She did something she wouldn't have ever done just to save his head.
The room was silent and the only noise was the clock ticking with each passing second. She now belonged to a total stranger because her father couldn't control his gambling addiction.
"Is there anything we can do please?" She turned to address the young man whose name she had forgotten within a few seconds.
The shock was enough to make her forget.
"I am afraid, there is nothing else you can do. Your father signed you off already." He strode to the stool before Oliver Alexanders and retrieved the file.
He waved it before her.
"Now, you belong to me." He smirked.
"I don't belong to you!" Carolina lost her anger.
How dare he say that? It wasn't her fault that the man whom she called father wasn't mature enough to know when to stop a bad habit. Neither was it her fault that he owed the most popular Alpha in town.
"How much does he owe you?" She asked even though she knew the answer would be more shocking.
"Are you sure you want to hear that, young lady?" Connor quizzed her.
"Just tell me how much it is, Alpha… Whatever name you call yourself." She hissed.
"Connor is the name and it would help if you store it here because you will be using it more frequently." He tapped the left side of the brain.
"Just answer the damn question!" Carolina gritted her teeth.
"Your father owes me three million dollars." Connor dropped the bombshell.
"What?" Her voice was barely a whisper.
Carolina staggered back a bit before regaining her composure. Her lips were slightly parted as she glanced at her father.
"Don't you have anything to say to that?" She questioned him.
"And let me make this clear, you belong to me now. Your father had every opportunity to sell this house to me but he chose to offer you instead." Connor revealed much more to her surprise.
Carolina swallowed and clenched her hands into tight balls. Would there be no end to his selfishness?
Her father was a gambler and had gambled away most of their property for years until all they had left was this house.
He couldn't even afford to send her to school, so her uncle stepped in the gap and all he could do was ruin her life in just a few hours.
Alpha Connor stared at her with pity. He wished things didn't have to go this way but ever since he met her back then, he couldn't forget her. He had lost the opportunity to have her back then due to family issues.
This was his opportunity to have her. To own her. To mark her his.
"You have to do this for Papa, Caro. This is the only way." Her father finally raised his head to speak.
"Really? What about the times I had to clean up your mess also? Have you forgotten how you made me lose my chance of entering college last year with your gambling habit?" Carolina's body shook with sobs.
"You stole my tuition fee and gambled it away only for you to come back with nothing! Who paid for that!? Who? Since mother, every second I have spent with you is full of re-regret." Carolina stuttered, suppressing a sob.
That wasn't news to Connor. He knew how deep into gambling her father was. Only that Oliver Alexanders didn't know when to stop.
"Wasn't that enough for you? You delayed my life for one good year. And now I finally got into school, you sold me to another man." She spoke with so much hatred in her voice.
This was the height of it all. A man who sold her could do anything he wanted with her. What was worse than this?
How could a father give up his only child for his wayward ways? Connor was repulsed at Mr. Oliver's attitude but since it was to his advantage, he didn't care.
"Mr. Oliver Alexanders, I really don't have much time to waste. It was nice doing business with you. I think she's okay and I'll accept her." Connor said.
Immediately he set his eyes on her again, he could feel the mating connection. He knew she was his so he wouldn't give her father the chance to renegotiate anymore. He would not accept anything else.
"I'm sorry, Caro. There was no other way to do this." Oliver said.
"So I am collateral. That's all I am to you. That's all I ever was and you took your time to sell me to the highest bidder." She said bitterly.
Her life had changed in one moment. She wished she had died with her mother that very day. If only she had insisted on following her.
"Since we have finalized the arrangements already. I will send my car for her as early as 9 am tomorrow. Please be punctual." Connor dropped another bombshell.
Carolina stared at him in astonishment. She hadn't even recovered from the shocking news, she had to move already.
"So quick?" She exclaimed.
"I don't waste time in possessing what is mine. Be ready by 9am tomorrow." Connor smirked and turned to walk out of the house.
Carolina fell to the floor sagging against the wall as more tears blurred her vision.
Carolina had bloodshot eyes and her face was puffy from crying. She wore her hair in a messy bun and there were dried tear tracks on her cheekbones. She laid down on the mattress lost in deep thought. How would her life be with the Alpha? She didn't love him and certainly did not feel any connection with him.Except for the first attraction she had felt for him which later turned to hatred when she realized that he was her captor. She had contemplated trying to run away but it wouldn't work.Alpha Connor had so many connections in LA. The only way she could get out of his reach was if she booked a flight out of California. That was if she was able to disguise herself so well.Even if she did that, she didn't have any money on her, also her whole life was here. If she succeeded in leaving, where would she start from? She had no one else. All her life was in LA. She was between the devil and the deep blue sea. She imagined how life would be with a total stranger. Her father had cause
Oliver knew why she was upset. Immediately Connor left and she stormed into her room, he knew the thought of calling her uncle would occur to her so he had to make the call first. He had called him to inform him of the situation and to also tell him to discontinue paying her tuition. He hoped that soon she would be able to forget all these and forgive him. Carolina dragged her small box out of her room into the living area after having her bath. Her eyes met with her father's where he sat at the dining table, however she ignored him."Caro." Her father called her.She stopped in her tracks while waiting for him to speak."Won't you have breakfast?" He offered."I don't think that's a good idea, if I eat up all the food left in the house, you might starve and die of hunger." She said sarcastically.Oliver had expected this when he signed her off. It was the best option for him. If he lost the house, he had lost everything and he would have to start all over. Someday she would understa
"We've got a problem, Alpha Connor." Jack, his driver, informed him.He sat up on the chair immediately. Had something happened to Carolina? Or had she escaped? He wouldn't put that past her but it wasn't possible. He had men who would collect her and drive her down to his place immediately. He took safety measures to prevent that immediately after he left her house the day before."What is the problem?" He was alarmed."Liliana arrived a few minutes ago and she is inside with Carolina." He said."What is she doing there?!" He gasped."We thought she had your permission, sir." Jack said."And you left her there? Go in and stay with them till I come. You know how Liliana can be." He gave instructions before hanging up.What was Liliana doing there? He knew what she was capable of doing. He retrieved his suit from the suit hanger immediately and dashed out of the office.Carolina stared at the brown-haired beauty before her. Her feminine perfume announced her presence as it wafted int
Carolina's jaw dropped as she stared at Liliana in bewilderment."You must be kidding, right?" Carolina scoffed while Liliana eyed her from head to toe."I am not kidding, why would I joke with someone who is a joke!" Carolina leaned back a bit with her arms crossed over her chest."Is it just I or you are exceptionally rude?" Carolina retorted, infuriating Liliana who was on the verge of exploding in anger. She couldn't decipher how Carolina had the audacity and effrontery to talk back at her and most especially, she couldn't understand what Connor saw in someone like Carolina. To Liliana, Carolina was someone crude and classless and she wasn't even who doesn't even deserve to stand before her. The more she stared at Carolina whose eyes were a flicker of rage, the more she felt the wave of anger rushing inside of her.Silence pervaded between Carolina and Liliana as they both stared daggers at each other. Liliana decided to break the silence as she cleared her throat before deciding
Carolina tilted her head a bit, turning to look at the direction the voice emanated. Her hand dangled helplessly by her side as she swallowed the heavy lump that formed beneath her throat. Liliana seeing that the table turned against Carolina, rushed towards Connor with tears glistening in her eyes.Liliana forcibly found her away in his arms as her cries broke into sobs that left Connor devastated. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion because his initial thought was that Liliana would try to pick on Carolina but he was dumbfounded when he saw how Carolina almost landed a slap across Liliana's face. Carolina's mouth was slack open as she stared at the scenery happening before her. That was when she was starting to realize how cunning and manipulative Carolina could be. Different thoughts raced through her mind and the only thing she did was to cuss at herself in regret because if she could have endured all the pain Liliana caused her, then the situation would have been different and s
Connor heaved a sigh of relief as he watched Carolina who was on the indoor balcony, walking closely behind the maid who helped in carrying her luggage. His heart kind of ached for her because of the tone that depicted the rudeness that he had used on her earlier. Inside him, he was contemplating either apologizing to her after he gets back from the office or apologizing to her before he returns from his office. He ran his hands through his head frustratedly, staring at Carolina till she finally disappeared from his sight. Liliana followed the direction of Connor's eyes and when she saw that he was staring at Carolina, she clenched her fist by her side. She was more infuriated when she saw the compassion in his eyes and the more she thought about it, Connor had never stared at her the way he stared at Carolina. It made her wonder what Connor saw in Carolina for him to order her to leave his house. The image of Carolina kept replaying in her head and the more it lingered, the more di
Chapter NineChapter Title-What Happened To Us?Carolina rolled her eyes to the back as she buried her face in her palm because she knew that with Liliana standing at the door like that, another series of trouble and drama was brewing again. Connor stood to his feet swiftly as he walked towards her in a haste in a bid to stop her from causing trouble for Carolina who just woke up.He grasped her by the arm but Liliana shoved his hands off as she shot him a glare. "I want to know what's between you and this low-class lady for you to be this crazy about her" Liliana's voice quavered, almost breaking down in tears. She shot a glare at Carolina who just stared at her with a face devoid of any emotions.Connor wasn't having any of her words, the only thing he wanted to do was to get her out of Carolina's room. He glanced at Carolina who pulled her legs to her chest as she observed the scenery happening before her. Connor gave her a reassuring smile that made her cringe. Carolina glanced
Carolina's eyes grew wide as he tightened his hands around her. Her hands dangled helplessly by her side, trying to process what was going on at the moment she felt his breath all over her ear, and slowly, her knees weakened to the ground. Still confused about what could have caused Connor to hug her like that, she gathered all the strength inside of her and pushed him away. Her eyes blinked a couple of times before shifting her gaze to him. "W-What just happened right now?" She asked while he lowered his head. Her eyes traveled from his face to his hand which was bleeding, the dripping sound of the blood that fell to the ground kind of triggered her senses and the only thing she wanted to do was stop the droplets of blood that dripped to the ground. Connor's face flushed with embarrassment, he didn't know what came over him for him to just hug her like that. Maybe it was the fact that there was this excitement always building him whenever he sets his eyes on her. When he pulled h
