Violette POV “Good morning, Violette.” Beatrice woke me up. I looked around the room and to my dismay, Master had left just like he’d said. “Good morning.. Ms. Beatrice.” I said with a small smile. I was upset but I wouldn’t let her know that. “Today will be a fun day, indeed. The kingdom is having its annual light show. You will not be working in the castle, but instead helping with decorations outside.” She in a cheerful tone. “Light show?” I asked. I’d never heard of that before. “Oh.. sometimes I forget you’re not from here. Every year on this day we do a light show. People from the towns come in and picnic in the dark while fireworks get shot off.” She said. That brought a true smile to my face. “I’ve never seen fireworks,” I said. “You will love it, then.” She clapped her hands together excitedly. “The king arranged for this gown. You’re to be bathed, and your hair done, then we will eat before time to start the decorations.” She said. I quickly planted my feet on the gr
Violette POV It’s beginning to get dark out and the people are already enjoying their time eating and chatting in the field. I’d never seen such an like it before.. Father never allowed anything like this at home. He couldn’t care less about festivities with the townspeople or anything like it. “Ah, there you are, dear. The King has summoned you.” Beatrice said. She pointed at the King standing on a balcony who I hadn’t even noticed was looking directly at me. “I will have Loren show you the way.” She said with a smile. Loren took my arm and we began walking to the castle. “You’ve done a fine job today, miss.” He said. “Thank you, Loren,” I said. “Beatrice tells me you’ve never seen fireworks before.. is that true?” He asked. I nodded my head. “Father never allowed anything like this. It’s sad to see I’ve been missing out. I’ve never seen so many people gathered in one place.” I said. “Well.. after tonight you won’t be missing much of anything.” He said with a laugh. We walked
Viktor POV “Why are you looking at me like that?” She asked. I could tell I was making her feel very self-conscious. In all reality.. I was just admiring how happy she can be in a world full of hate. “Am I not allowed to look at you?” I asked. She looked away and watched the fireworks. I’d have to say she looks absolutely breathtaking standing here before me. I’d never really noticed how she basically glowed when she was happy.. “I didn’t say that..” she said softly. Her eyes fell for a moment to watch the people down below. “If you’d like to go down there.. you may.” I said. “But what about you?” She asked as she looked back at me. Goddess.. why does she have to be so.. I need to stop. I can’t do that. “I’ll be fine,” I said. No, I won’t.. I didn’t want her to go, but I didn’t want to keep her from going if that’s what she wanted. “May I stay?” She asked. I nodded my head as I fought back the smile I’d shown her fat too many times tonight. “If that is what you wish,” I said.
Viktor POV “How is she?” I asked. “She’s alive.. but it will take some time to heal. The knife had to have been silver.. and the wound was covered in wolfsbane so I can only assume the knife was doused in it.” Beatrice said. I let out a growl as I slammed my fist into the concrete wall. “How did this happen? Why didn’t she try to fight or shift?” I growled. Was this because of the collar? I’d stopped giving her wolfsbane completely.. “I found a needle prick in her neck. She was given wolfsbane.. and the collar.. the silver collar didn’t help. I took my eyes off of her for merely a second.” Beatrice sobbed. “She.. screamed for me.. Beatrice.” I fell against the wall and took a deep breath. “In her moment of pure fear.. she screamed for me.” I dropped my face into my hands. “She survived because of you. Had you not gotten to her in time..” Beatrice trailed off. “I will kill him for this,” I said through my teeth. The rage I was feeling right now is beyond anything I’d ever imag
Viktor POV It’s been a week since the.. incident. We got her moved to her room, but she refuses to let anyone see her or speak to her.. anytime someone comes in she just throws things. I permitted Lillian to stay with her.. but even Lillian, she won’t allow in. We tried getting Sylvia to go in, but it’s the same result. I sat at my desk and sighed heavily. I had to force her to drink water. But she still won’t eat. She’s losing weight left and right and I can’t bear to see it. “My, King. Cedric is hear to speak with you.” Loren mind linked me. Loren hasn’t been himself either.. I know he blames himself for what happened, but to be honest, it wasn’t his fault. We didn’t see it coming. I should’ve known better. I should’ve known that sending Gregory wouldn’t have been Arthur’s only attempt on her life. “Let him in,” I said as I straightened out my mess of a desk. The door opened and Cedric walked in. I know he’s had his hands full with Lillian and her moods. Violette doesn’t under
Violette POV I didn’t want to be touched. Or talked to. Or be around a single person. I just wanted to be left alone, but no one would. I was having a hard time grasping the fact that my throat had been slit by one of my Fathers men. I just couldn’t stop repeating that night in my mind.It felt like a terrifying nightmare that I absolutely could not wake up from. It was killing me.. I just couldn’t figure out how I could possibly be okay again after this. “King Arthur sends his regards.” Is the last thing I heard before he sliced the knife across my throat. You’d think with a collar on, there’d be no room.. I guess that’s what I get for having a long neck. I used the be told that having a long neck was attractive. Many of my maids from home would say I had a beautiful neck.. that it’s a sign of great beauty.. but I only see it as a curse anymore. “Please, Violette. You need to bathe.” Viktor said softly. I didn’t see why he cared. My view of the world has taken a drastic turn.. an
Violette POV “How does it feel?” Beatrice asked. I scrunched my face up as I wrote on the paper. -it hurts constantly.- I wrote. “I’m sorry, dear.. I’ll mix something up. What about your pains? How have they been?” She asked. -nothing. They haven’t happened since that last time.- I wrote. She nodded her head. She mixed some herbs into a cup of hot water, then poured some honey into it. She put a straw into the cup and handed it to me. “I’m.. glad you’re not throwing things anymore.” She said softly. I only nodded in response. I began drinking her mixture, the warmth of it felt good in my throat. Master spent yesterday with me after the bath. He fed me soft foods.. things that didn’t require big swallows. I hadn’t realized how hungry I was until I’d finished the entirety of it.. then asked for more. He also read to me.. which was oddly comforting. And I ended up falling asleep. When I woke this morning, there was only a faint scent of him left behind. -I’m sorry.- I wrote as I cr
Violette POV “You can do it. Just try not to stress, okay? I know it’s hard. I know it hurts. But you’re strong. The strongest Princess I know.” Lillian said. I opened my mouth and tried again. “Aaa.” I small sound escaped my throat. I’ve been practicing for a couple of weeks now.. and that’s all I’ve managed to get out. I was so frustrated that it was taking so long.. but Beatrice assured me that my vocal cord healing was delayed because of the wolfsbane on the blade.. and that it would take time and patience for it to fully recover and for my voice to come back completely. “Good, you’re doing good.” Lillian praised me with a smile. Being around her cheery self makes me feel better. I just wish I had her attitude. “Li-liaa..” I tried so hard to say her name.. but most of it came out in breath.. and not actual sound. “That’s great!” Lillian squealed. The frown on my face deepened. -it’s not great Lillian. My voice is gone. It’ll never be the same.- I wrote. “It’s progress. It
