It was after lunch when Chris was lying sprawled over the bed, her words whirring around his head. She’d accept him as a forced mate, no qualms, no questions. She’d do it. From his conversation with her it seemed to be a more common thing outside of Royal packlands. But was it the right thing?
Right thing or not, he couldn’t accept his true mate.
He scrubbed a hand down his face. Regardless he should still finish the pack tour. Should he take her with him, a courtship period? That was common, many spent at least a few weeks getting to know each other before sealing the bond.
He felt he was tearing himself in two.
“My Prince, His Royal Highness is on the phone in the Alpha off
He hadn’t moved from his spot of disgruntled despair when there was a knock on the door. “Busy.” The door opened anyway, “Doesn’t look like it,” came a familiar voice. Chris glanced up to Trey for a moment before looking away. “Wow, not seen that look in a long time. Tour going that bad?” “You didn’t need to come. Sorry he made you.” “I offered.” Trey shrugged. Chris scrubbed a hand down his face before getting to his feet. “Well, I’m sorry. The Luna sorted you a room… just…” he walked into the adjoined bathroom, shutting the door. He had nothing to say. He had no mind for anything. He felt like he was going to be sick with the rolling seas h
With his head bent low, they arrived back to the Alpha house without any altercation… just nasty words and looks. He was shaking as he stepped back into his room. He was so preoccupied he hadn’t heard or felt Trey step in behind him until he shut the door. “I’ll sort it,” he promised. Chris shook his head. He stumbled back and landed on the bed, “Marc’s going to… he’s going-” “Chris, it doesn’t matter what they’re saying. Calm down, I will sort it, sort all of it.” “Y-you can’t… I…” His breath began sawing in and out of his chest, the words wouldn’t stop in his head, the abysmal horrified looks of those under his brother’s rule span around his head. They knew… they all knew. “Chris.” A hand landed heavily on his shoulder shook him bac
Jaxson rubbed his head, shoving his fingers through his slightly too long hair. He didn’t think anything could have gone worse. Gamma Trey had looked ready to cave his skull in after talking to Chris. He felt a traitor even though there was no way it could be his fault. He hadn’t told anyone. He was on the outside, the other guards were accompanying the Royal Gamma in dealing with the rumours, while Adam was stationed outside Chris’ door. Jaxson on the other hand, had been told to stay in one of the spare rooms, out of view, out of sight, possibly out of mind. He hated feeling useless. He felt like an adolescent sent to his room for breaking curfew. He flopped back on the bed, an irritation grinding through his head. His fingers itched. His stomach was in a knot of turmoil. People knew… the packs knew. Did they know it was him? The gossip hadn’t seemed specific. Regardless… Chris was at the centre. He didn’t like that. “Fuck this,” he announce to the empty room and stood, strid
Chris sprinted through the forest on four legs, it was much faster progress as a wolf. He knew from his tour where the guards patrolled the border to unclaimed territory and easily slipped through undetected. He kept running as he worked out where was best to go. Human territory was dangerous… but so were wolves not under the Kingdom. ‘Mate could help.’ Chris shook his head, he couldn’t think that way. With a deep breath, he veered a sharp left, passing through the protective barrier. Knowing he was in human land, he quickly transformed, throwing on clothes and running his hand through his hair. He had no idea what to expect. The land looked much like he knew, he was in the middle of a field that looked full of wheat. Pushing his way through, he wondered where he could go. Going to human land wasn’t ever an option, he peered back, it just looked like more field, the only indication of the barrier was a slight ripple. ‘Mate.’ Chris frowned at his wolf, there was something missing in
Stephan ushered him through a door, announcing “He’s with me.” When a burly male tried to stop them. “He wanted ID, but you don’t need it,” Stephan told him arrogantly. All these words he had no idea what they meant. They walked up a set of stairs, music was getting louder and louder, he recognised the music but when they were half way up the steps, it was already the loudest he’d ever heard. Once they reached a large dark room with mutliculoured lighting dotted around the room, it was deafening. Chris had to refrain from putting his hands over his ears.He saw lots of, well, obviously humans. Lots of males, some females and some very tall females… taller than werewolf females who he believed were taller than human females. (Excep
Chris was beginning to relax with the people around him, the music was starting to not appear as loud as it first had, and the topics of conversation were far from anything he’d experienced before.Sex seemed on the forefront of the group’s mind, that and ‘their rights’. He wasn’t sure really what they meant by that, but it was enjoyable to listen to. They were currently discussing gendered bathrooms. Like much they said… he didn’t really understand. He gathered males and females had separate bathrooms. He couldn’t work out if they did at home though… that would make for many bathrooms in every house!True… the palace had ample, but would that mean Adelaide wouldn’t be allowed to use his bathroom? Did humans have two bathrooms per couples bedroom?
Chris straightened, a false bravado he didn’t want to portray made his back ramrod straight. “I understand.” He surged ahead, partly wanting to put a distance he knew he’d never achieve… After all, Jaxson was a guard, and he a princeA SUV pulled up and upon the passenger door opening to show Trey, Chris didn’t hesitate to open the back door and settle himself in the leather. He kept his gaze to the front, not wanting to see the looks, not wanting any questions. “I wish to go back to Royal Packland, my tour has finished,” he stated formally.“Very well, My Prince,” Callum replied, slipping the car smoothly from the pavement. The car stayed in a desolate silence. No-one seemingly wishing to speak about what had happened. Ch
Whispering. It was a twittering of irritation. Some loud enough for him to hear.Others merely ‘pst pst pst.’Such an irritating sound.Jaxson squared his shoulders as he strode through the town, he’d been home, seen his family. He’d laughed with his sister, he’d lied to his parents about whether he’d found his mate. He was lucky they hadn’t asked about the stupid rumours. He’d loved spending the downtime with those he loved, but now it was time to get back to work, back to training with his friends. Previously, before his opportunity
Boots thudded against paving slabs, his strides quick… yet confident. He smiled politely at the wolves he passed, receiving warm greetings and smiles in return, “Good morning, My Prince.” A female waved at him. “Morning.” He nodded, continuing on his way. He reached the bakers, collecting the bread he’d placed on order, before heading to the butchers. The repeats of ‘good mornings’ and ‘hellos’ following him around. It wasn’t something that he minded anymore. It was actually quite refreshing being spoken to rather than everyone shying away from him, or looking away. Or whispering. That didn’t happen anymore. It had taken a few months for the pack to settle down, get used to the idea of same-sex mateships. Now, a year later, other’s didn’t even bat an eye. He’d he
Almost two weeks later, their lives had grown into a routine that would soon change. This was the last day before Jaxson went back to work, back to training. Chris would miss him but knew Jaxson was itching to get back to his job. Not that he had to work, but he wanted to. It seemed Jaxson didn’t do too well inside.Chris stretched in their position on the much larger sofa; Chris had mentioned to Klara that his sofa was too small, low and behold, two days later, this comfortable four seater had arrived. It was much more suited to Jaxson’s size and Chris’ height. “Want some chocolate?” Jaxson mumbled, sliding from behind him to stand.“Nah, I’m good.”But he did want some… he blinked as Jaxson disappeared. “I’m sorry,” Jaxson mumbled as they made their way back to the palace. “I don’t know what came over me.” “It’s OK. We thought we were safe. I guess Laura lied.” Chris looked to his bare feet as he walked. He had been certain Laura was behind it all. Guilt barrelled into Chris, and he knew it wasn’t his own. “I should have been more aware… I shouldn’t have offered to be your guard… I wasn’t paying attention. I-” “Jaxson,” Chris barked looking to the other male. “It is not your fault.” He stepped into his way, blocking his path and clasped his hand between Chris’ two palms before reaching up and swiping his thumbs gently over Jaxson’s cheekbones. “There is no reason for your guilt. The more guilty you feel, the more I feel it.” He rested his forehead against the other male. “I want to get back, please?” The urge to complete the process was burning throug
Jaxson snarled. Two against one wasn’t a particularly fair fight, but nothing he couldn’t cope with. He was a little more preoccupied with the three on Chris. He’d pushed as much confidence and courage into him, knowing he wasn’t a fighter. He lunged at the tan wolf who had first appeared from the trees in skin form. A clear wound oozing from his jaw. Jaxson wasn’t without injury. He was ignoring a burn in his ribs and a hind leg that wouldn’t straighten. It would be really nice for his body not to hurt for just one day.He pushed forward, forcing the lighter wolf towards the trees, a pain slammed through his front leg and he found himself on his back, he snarled, he needed to focus but the scene to his left was one he couldn’t ignore. His uncle bearing down on Chris. Bearing down on what’s his.The disappointment and hurt was grinding into him like a pestle agains
Chris tugged Jaxson’s maroon t-shirt down, beyond the muscle bulging from his neck and shoulders. The same was happening to him, Jaxson’s fingertips brushed his skin gently, tingles of pleasurable electricity zapped from his fingers. A shiver worked its way down his spine. He nestled his teeth against Jaxson’s skin, a spot that would half be visible on most of his t-shirts. Chris’ movements were mimicked, sharp canines scraped his skin working a moan from deep in his chest.“Together.” Jaxson’s link came through, without any indication, they bit deep into each other’s flesh at exactly the same moment.Groans of pleasure rumbled around the small clearing. It hurt, but it was like no pain he’d felt before. It was blissful. He shivered as Jaxson r
The next morning, Chris fussed over Jaxson but noticed he seemed much more himself. His wolf still wasn’t with him as far as he knew, but he was ready to be out of bed, still keeping Chris close by… he still seemed to have a fear Chris would spontaneously disappear. Understandable in his eyes. “Mark.” Chris’ wolf was being quite insistent after breakfast. He could only promise his wolf, that soon, soon they would mark. He nuzzled Jaxson’s hair while the larger male laid over Chris like a weighted blanket. He never felt being crushed would be a form of security… but with Jaxson it was different. He was glad to be pressed so far into the hard sofa that he could feel the frame below the cushions. “Need a bigger sofa,” Jaxson mumbled, wriggling his feet that were hanging over the arm to make a point. “I’ll see what we can get,” Chris promised, “A two-seater isn’t really ideal.” “You sure I’m alright staying here?” “What do you mean? Do you not want to-” “Course. I just… not sure. I
