"James, Mom wants to bring you for a health check-up. Get up, quick." Summer nudged James, who was still sleeping soundly, with her foot. He was immediately startled awake by this.

"What's going on?" James muttered, his eyes looking particularly dazed. When he noticed Caroline was there, he lost his composure for a moment. "Mom, why are you here?"

Caroline was momentarily taken aback. It hadn't occurred to her to subject James to a check-up, but now, rudely awakened by Summer's disturbance, she felt a surge of anger.
