Chapter 229

Summer felt like a fish on a chopping block; she was the fish, and Caroline was the knife that threatened and manipulated her.

An hour later, Summer was sweaty and exhausted. Her whole body was stiff and sore from all the work. She wasn't used to such hard labor, so the first day was naturally difficult.

To make matters worse, Luca still picked on her, saying, "Madam Summer, this area isn't clean."

Summer looked over and saw that a tiny corner in the stairwell hadn't been wiped dry. Luca was nitpicking about a tiny, barely noticeable spot. It almost drove Summer crazy.

"Luca, is there a need to be so strict?"

"Yes. Madam Caroline likes cleanliness and won't tolerate any flaws, so even the smallest areas must be kept clean."

"Hmph! If she likes cleanliness so much, why does she need me?" Summer muttered under her breath.

She could only complain quietly, because if Caroline heard about it, she would get another earful from her.
