SAGE

"Hey, are you already done?"

"One more shot!" I shouted out loud. Slowly adjusting my lens, I appreciated the view of our town for a moment before pushing the button of my camera. I scanned the image I captured on my screen first, smiling at the nice angle I got then decided that I would frame it above the headboard of my bed. "Okay... that's a better shot. I'm done, psycho."

I heard my brother groaned behind me. "Then let's go down now. I'm sure Mom is already looking for us. See, it's already getting dark, squirt."

I hopped off the rock I'd been standing on and walked towards Jace with a hand on my hips. "Just because you're taller than me doesn't mean you're allowed to call me that way."

He rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Just because you're one year ahead of me doesn't mean you have the right to boss me around. I can call you whatever I want, squirt."

Hiding a smile, I playfully pushed him out of the way and ran off. Jace chased after me and because he was a good athlete, he c

SAGEOnce my consciousness surfaced out of the dark, it felt like I was freed from a curse—— from an illusion that kept me bound for so long. The sight of the white ceiling of my bedroom was the first thing that welcomed me to reality. Then my eyes slowly moved to my surroundings and I didn't expect that I would see Dana here, staring at me. She was sitting on the side of my bed, concern on her face. When she noticed that I'd finally woken up, she looked like she didn't know what to do. Then I heard shouting outside my room, causing me to frown. It had been a long time since I heard my parents argue and it was when my Ma brought a shrink for me five months ago.Yeah, five months ago."Hey, are you hurt somewhere?" Dana asked, helping me to sit up.I tried to sense myself but for a strange reason, I felt physically good. As I remembered, I tripped in the woods, running from something. Or rather from someone I didn't expect that would bring me to the hardest truth. Val, my girlfriend——

VALKYRIE"Again!" Oscar shouted.Pressing my hands on the ground, I got up on my feet and prearranged myself in a fighting stance. I glared at Enzo who was waiting for me to attack as he stood inches away from me. Some of our pack warriors surrounded us, watching our one-to-one combat that was happening at the center platform of the barracks. With my heightened speed, I skipped the distance between us and threw a roundhouse kick. However, Enzo evaded it, creating an opening for him to give me a hook punch which I dodged quickly by winding backward. Then I surged forward to lock my arm around his neck, slamming him down on the floor with a loud grunt out of my mouth. Enzo struggled while I squeezed his neck more tightly. As I felt his body weakened, I'd thought that he was going to yield already but I suddenly found myself being flipped around before my back crashed on the ground. And the next thing I knew, Enzo already pinned me in a deadlock, putting his legs above my neck and torso

  • The Phantom Queen   Chapter 28: Leaping Through Differences

VALKYRIEIt was the first Tuesday of the month and everyone was still hyped about the Homecoming party last week. Contrary to the vibes around the school, I was in the hiding mood, careful not to be seen by my mate to the extent that I didn't eat my lunch in the cafeteria. Despite that, my entire senses were focused on her so I knew exactly if she was close to my parameter or not. Vance and Esther had been pushing me to just do it but I didn't know what to expect once I confronted her. I was actually beyond nervous and didn't want to mess it up again. However, I would see her in our last class so it was going to be my moment to turn the table around for the both of us. As I walked slowly to the classroom, I gathered that she was still not in her usual seat which was in front of mine. Sighing in relief, I sat on my chair, watching the students entered one by one. But once she strode into the room while laughing at Ethan beside her, the world stopped its pace. I didn't know how much I m

VALKYRIEAfter things had calmed down, Sage told me to give her time to think alone about what she should do. She also made me promise not to tell Gwen and Cayde about how she finally learnt their secret. My loyalty lied with my mate so I willingly obliged without any complain. Those two weren't even planning to expose themselves yet, despite knowing in their mind that Sage would eventually find out. Essie was right when she told me that Sage was already involved no matter how much I shove her away from this situation. Hence why I think that Gwen and Cayde shouldn't hide themselves anymore.Another day had begun and I was woken up by repeated knocks against my bedroom door. I groggily moved out of the bed to open it, only to see my twin brother."What are you doing knocking on my door? You could have woken me up through the link," I grumbled, massaging my temple."Ready yourself. Dad wants to talk to us at the peak before breakfast," he said, alarming me. Vance gave me a meaningful lo

SAGEHave you ever wake up from a dream full of roses beneath your feet? With a clear sky above your head and rainbows falling down to the cloud? With trees playing like a magical instrument with the air whispering the lyrics through your ear? My life before felt like this——almost perfect and filled with love and warmth. However, once I'd woken up from that dream, everything seemed like a grayscale. Roses enlarged with thorns and rainbows fading into nothing but an empty space. Even the rustle of the trees sounded like a piece of sorrowful music while the air was spitting venom in my ears. Lies spewed dusk in my mind, influencing my thoughts not to trust anyone any longer. To be honest, I was already exhaustedI looked out of the window of my car, watching the students laughed with each other, going through the day without any care in the world. Ignorant of the creatures hiding among them and taking advantage of their lives, not knowing about how fragile it could be for them with just

  • The Phantom Queen   Chapter 31: Trouble and Paradise

SAGEVal and I got into our last class, discussing our plans later after school. We were going to watch a slasher film anyway so we might as well make it bloody for my friends. The idea of them being supernatural creatures was a shocker, indeed. But Val had advised me to just think about what we'd been through as a trio and the time I'd spent with them since we've met. That I should look into who they are in my life, not about the idea of them being different than normal.Just like Val as a werewolf. Just like me being a girl and still greatly attracted to her.We were both in the midst of our planning when a loud thud caused our heads at the front desk. I almost fell from my seat when I realized who it actually was. Oh no! This was the only class that we shared so why did she have to be the teacher who was going to be the substitute for Mrs. Olsen? That tedious teacher had to take a maternal leave, unfortunately for me."Okay, class! Starting from now on, I will be your Algebra teach

SAGE We were on our way to our house after a fun-filled grocery shopping. I couldn't even wash away the smile from my face when Val was being contagiously happy. Well, what more could I say after that sweet kiss we had a while ago? It was just a brief moment but that symbolized the answers to her questions——the reciprocation of her love for me. Although I wasn't really good with words, I knew that she was aware of what I was trying to convey from that kiss. And I was more than glad that after the cruel torrent that went against the current of our relationship, I'd finally admitted it to myself——that I had these profound feelings for her. It wasn't that easy to accept due to the awful circumstances but that exactly verified all the confusion within me. That despite our differences, she all I could think about these past few days. Maybe that's why I blamed her of all people, because my feelings towards her was stronger than everybody else. But now, I felt free than ever before. Even th

  • The Phantom Queen   Chapter 33: Burned-Out Memories

VALKYRIEA blissful night had past and a new day cycled through Saturday once again. I recalled yesterday's event in my mate's house with her friends. After their sweet moment, Ava came home and found her vase broken into pieces on the ground. She was so livid at us, mentioning how much she valued it because apparently, it was a gift from her mother. Unfortunately, we didn't get to sleep over in Sage's last night. We had no choice but to go home. Though that didn't stop me to jump over Sage's balcony and kissed her later that night. The heavy load in my heart had finally rinsed away, glad that Sage was beginning to accept us for what we are. I just had to find the right time to tell her about the visions Ingrid had about her. That was the only thing that was left out anyway. For now, we just had to find where the false Phantom Pack and their hybrids were hiding. It was another month so I would expect them to strike again.... which was weird. Why they had to wait for another month to s

And someday, the wounds would mend to scars— scars that would imprinted in our heart for eternity. And those blemishes were the embodiment of our memories you had with them. But did our suffering truly ended after our victory? Or it would just create another, damaging our lives once again? That——that would be something I wouldn't be able to know as I was just limited to the reality of the moment. One thing was for sure. Blood was shed. Tears had fallen on the same earth where it all began. But here we were, healing each other to achieve peace among our kind. And finally, my father's dreams were starting to build up into something more and definite. In the depths of the Olcan Manor, in one of the prison cells, Amelia was apprehended and yet, she had been refusing to tell us the Illwisch's whereabout or anyth

SAGEContained by intense grief, we all fell into silence. The large tree behind us scorched in fire, portraying hell in the darkness. We all watched it fade into ashes, words hidden in our mouth.Val and I reduced to our human form. And Gwen was quick to cover us with her coat."Hey, where's Vance? Why——Why I can't feel him anymore?" I heard Esther questioned, causing an ache to my chest. If she couldn't sense her mate anymore, then Vance was already....Val hung her head low, her tears were streaming down on her cheeks. Her heart was filled with diverse emotions—— guilt, regrets and extreme frustration. She couldn't face her best friend as she failed her——we all failed her. I hugged her close to me, crying my eyes out. She just lost his father and now this? Why was the world so cruel to my precious mate?"I'm sorry. He——He didn't make it. We couldn't do anything," Cayde was the only one who had the courage to answer her.Esther looked at us, seeking validation. I stared back at her,

SAGE"We're here," Wan declared. We all ceased running. Looking over my shoulder, I held the sight of the Olcan Hill across the Maelstorm we hiked through. Although it was already nighttime, I still could see the lights from the square barracks and the manor from where we were standing. The location of the passage that they were talking about was just near the edge of the hill. The terrain was quite complicated so no ordinary person could climb through the area unless they were like us. We brought a team of deltas with us as this was a rescue mission to retrieve Enzo's family. And to my surprise, Val also brought me along in this mission. Maybe because she was still feeling guilty over what happened yesterday at the Wolf Grave territory. She wanted to make me feel that she trusted me. Needless to say, my best friends also tagged along because it was also their job to protect me. Their parents were also part of the Phantom before, the two apprentices who fought along with Sara to be ex

  • The Phantom Queen   Chapter 64: Vows of Devotion

VALKYRIEAfter they took Zak to heal his wounds, we were led to the house of the Claw and we talked about how to solidify our alliance with the Wolf Grave more. As expected, they were demanding to take Sage into their territory but I strongly declined as she was my mate. Aside from that, Sage mentioned her human parents, shutting them down flatly. They also offered Iris and the twin to be her personal bodyguard which Sage declined too. However, it seemed that they were too adamant about this so they suggested transferring to our school next year. Then we proceeded about our war against Amelia and her notorious hybrids.Once the meeting ended, we drove home, promising to the Wolf Grave Pack to develop our alliance further and set things up now that Sage had finally claimed the Alpha position. The whole time, my mate was disregarding me, even blocking me in her mind. I could feel a bit of her disappointment though. She had her reason because I didn't trust her and acted on our own again

  • The Phantom Queen   Chapter 63: In the Minds of Conflict

VALKYRIEThere was nothing greater than the morning when you were on the bed, kissing your girlfriend senseless. Not to mention that we were both naked under the sheet as I hovered above her body. These past few days were so eventful with school and the training after. Add more our task as the new Alpha of our pack. Finding time for our intimate session was quite challenging and there were her parents too who demanded to have Sage stay at home as she should. They just let her do the ceremony last Monday because my Mom asked them politely. So having her slept here last night because it was already the weekend was already a blessing to me. And we didn't even hesitate to jump at each other once we were alone in my personal cabin. I had no idea how many times we'd done it but it was truly bliss. However, it seemed that we weren't still satisfied yet that as soon as we woke up a while ago, we made love once again.Sage cradled me inside her embrace while stroking my hair soothingly. I nuzz

*trigger warning*SAGEEvery pair spread out in the woods to give themselves privacy for the training. Oscar just remained at the square barracks to train those members who were under him while the others were guarding the territory for the meantime. The rest of the pack who specialized in aiding the household were either helping with the ceremony or were in the kitchen to prepare the foods for later.Sara was bringing me into the woods just a few meters away. I still could hear my friends and Val near us. We stopped at the middle of a small meadow which was enclosed by tall trees. Snow fell just this morning so the area looked like it was sprinkled with white flour. Beneath the glow of the afternoon, the brilliance of the winter brought the world to a new shine."Sage, before we begin, is there any chance that you'd call me your Mom," Sara suddenly blurted out when she turned around to face me.I blinked at the question that was thrown at me unexpectedly. Then I grew speechless as my

  • The Phantom Queen   Chapter 61: All-Around Obligations

SAGEThe way their bodies moved as they strode towards us was enough sign that they were cautious with their surroundings. Sarah watched the newly arrived members of the Wolf Grave sauntering past her. She was gonna follow them next but she was halted by my Mom who was unaware of the situation. I'd mentioned to her that Sarah was also a victim of our enemies but it didn't mean she'd already forgiven her for posing as a werewolf hunter to trick her and then abducting me after. Aside from that, my parents also didn't know that she's my biological mother yet. I didn't even know how to tell them.Shifting on my feet, I extended my hearing and focused on their conversation."What are you doing here?" Mom hissed at her but not loud enough to bring attention."Flora, I-I'm sorry—""Your daughter invited her," Veronica interrupted in between. Mom clenched her jaw before she glanced at me which I responded with a reassuring nod. Her face held confusion but eventually let go of Sarah's arm. My

VALKYRIEIt was Saturday evening and I was on my way to Sage to sleep for tonight there when Wan came to inform that Iris of the Wolf Grave demanded to talk to us. We were expecting this already though. Their pack would eventually get out of control as a result of taking their Alpha out of the picture. So I told Delta Wan to let her through the territory. But before that, I linked with Sage through her mind and told her that I would be late to have an important conversation with the Wolf Grave.'Make sure to tell me what's going on,' she said after then blocked me out. I had no idea why she had to do that though but I sensed her desire a while ago to the extent that I nearly made an excuse not to go with Vance in the labyrinth. However, I quickly decided against it because we needed to plant a trap there in regards to our plan in outing the traitor. As usual, the twin towed behind her when she arrived at the camp villa. Everyone was puzzled at their arrival but the Wolf Grave's Deltas

That cheerio girl was asking what time exactly is the barbeque party tomorrow which reminded me that I had to come with my Mama to the town supermarket to buy stuff for the said party.I was kinda feeling it now: the double-life scenario—— a human and a werewolf. I wasn't complaining though but I knew that I had to put in a lot of extra effort. Luckily, I already have the energy to endure my day as werewolves could keep themselves awake for four days at most, depending on their stamina and on the phase of the moon.
