(Blakes’s POV)

The weather has been friendly to me today. As soon as Tara decided to go home, a localized storm brought heavy rain with lightning and thunder. I thanked heaven for her small bag and for forgetting her umbrella at home. More so, I thanked Samantha for bringing Sean today despite our busy schedule. I was able to hold her longer today than the last time.

Even my teleconference meeting today was shorter than I expected. I had to take it, though, to the conference room instead of my office. As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, it was still raining, and I felt relief when I saw Tara and Sean playing in the lounge.

She glances at me, but that is just it. I walk past them and step outside the patio. I had to shower and change clothes. If not for Tara, I would want to go to Bali to relax. A day or two at Liberty Wreck would be fine.

When I come back, Sean is now laying his back on the L-shape sofa, his head on Tara&rsquo

(Tara’s POV)Stella is freaking out, but my heart is about to burst out because of my stupidity. This morning when his lips touch mine, I can not deny the longing of tasting his kiss. If Samantha did not show up, I would drown in him, and who knew what would happen next. That breathless few seconds brought fever to every part of my body.Just a while ago, I did another stupid thing. I only meant to tease him, but I felt like I fell into the right place when I fell into his lap, in his arms. I was lost when he wrapped his arms around me. Heat crept through me, making me ached for him and yearning for another kiss. When our eyes met, I wished to ask him many questions, but I was afraid to hear the answers. I don’t want to be one of the many on his list. I don’t even know him. I shouldn’t even be here in the first place.Damn that smile! When he smiled, showing me those p

(Tara’s POV)I called Gianna, and she explained everything in between her cries. I was sitting on the sofa, still shocked and unable to move, trying to think where to get money for the hospital bills. No one will shoulder the cost since it was a hit-and-run case. Although Stella assured me she would do something, I felt helpless and powerless about our present situation.Stella is facing her computer now, probably checking her account. We need quite an enormous amount of money for Ivana’s operations, and it has to be done soon in a big hospital. When I stand up, Stella raises her head and gives me a hopeful smile. “Don’t worry, Tara, I’ll do everything I can to get the amount we need by tomorrow. Just give me time to pool the resources,”“I...” I have no one to go to. This is one of the times when I wish John and I are still together. We did not experience t

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 18 – Not In the Usual Self

(Tara’s POV) Did we just solve our problem? Stella squealed and hugged me. I remained standing, blinking, thinking of Blake. If I didn’t see the car leaving, I would go outside and run to him. “OMG, Tara!” She said, leaning on the sofa. “The heaven must have heard your prayers.” Then she glances at me. “What did you do at the convenience store, by the way? Why did it take you long to come back?” Her nose crinkles, then sniff. I got conscious that I had to move back. “What?” My eyelashes flutter as I tilt my head to smell my shoulder. “Did you buy a new perfume?” She eyed me, then shook her head. “Never mind.” She looked on her side, groping her phone that fell on the sofa. I bite my lips. Being too close with Blake, the addicting scent of his perfume must have stuck on my shirt... and hair. Wow! I should ask him next time what perfume he uses. It did really stick in my shirt and hair, probably even in

(Tara’s POV)“Tara, you’re...you’re early,” He stammers, his face turning pale like he stops breathing for a few seconds.I was sure my face was red. I could feel the heat creeping through my skin as I saw Blake wearing nothing except the lightweight towel hugging his hips. Like him, I stopped breathing. His hair is still dripping wet, looking like a model of expensive male perfume. I swallowed hard as my eyes feasted on his well-developed physique. How could heaven give this man a perfect body? This is one of those moments that I would want to open Google to look for a better word to describe him at this moment. Hunk? Sexy? A very sexually attractive man.“Hi!” I said, staring at the ceiling and pressing my lips. If I look down, my eyes would again wander from his face down to his hips, and I would imagine thousands of things that I shouldn’t be thinking.&

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 20 –  A Bit Crazy

(Tara’s POV)The big analog wall clock in the hospital lobby shows it was 2:45 in the afternoon already. Stella and I went on separate ways. She looked for someone to talk to in the information area to ask about Ivana’s condition while I went to the hospital ward where my sisters were. There were about fifteen patients in there, and with some curtains closed, it was hard to see them.“Tara!” Gianna cried, running towards me.I turned in her direction and hugged my sister.“I’m so glad you’re here,” She said in between her sobs.I moved back to look at her. I placed my palms on her cheeks. “Yes, I’m here. Where’s Ivana?” I asked, taking a glimpse at the direction where she came from.“Uhm...” She swallowed. Instead of answering, she held my right hand, wiping her tears, while we walked towards the closed

(Tara’s POV)“Aunt Tara!” Sean ran to me, hugging me. I felt relief that I put down the coffee cup. “I miss you, Aunt Tara!” He said, jumping for me to carry him.My face flushed red, smiling at the little boy in front of me. “Me too, I miss you,” I said, pinching his cheeks lightly. I carried him and had him in my lap as I turned my face on my ‘cute Hector’ playing and singing Un Poco Loco.He was laughing as well when he finished singing. “Whew! That’s kinda embarrassing,” He said sheepishly. Perhaps without the makeup, I would see him flushing red.I could not hide my emotions at this moment. I was giggling, wiping my tears that kept on rolling my cheeks because of this overwhelming unidentified feeling.“I thought you’re in Bali,” I said, standing up, still carrying Sean in my arms.He took Sean in

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 22 – The Promise

(Blake’s POV)This may not be the costume I had in mind, but I was glad Samantha had thought of Coco as our costume to cheer up Tara. As for Sean, we have no idea if he was excited about wearing the outfit or seeing Tara again. But as soon as some people took our pictures when we entered the hospital, I was glad no one could recognize us from our get-up. I had to be in this looks to freely hold Tara’s hands on the street without worrying Paparazzi dragging her pictures in social media.I knew it was not a good idea to sit with John. I don’t need to do a little digging about him. I knew him to be the son of an influential family in this town, but not his relationship with Tara. She seemed to evade questions about him.“What do you like to eat?” I asked, giving her the menu card. I pretended to look busy scanning the list of dishes, but I could feel the tension between them.“Have you eaten?” She as

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 23 – Missing You Big Time

(Blake’s POV)“Samantha, what are these?” I shouted from my office. Her stiletto shoes made a ‘clang’ sound as she walked towards my office. She raised her brows and pursed her lips. She stood beside me, wrinkling her nose. “Do you need a detailed explanation, Blake?” She did not wait for my answer. She continued talking. “Those are the oil canvas painting you asked from Tara. She had them delivered the other day, and in front of you are four paintings carefully wrapped in a breathable sheet before placing it in a bubble wrapper and then...”“Samantha-” I growled at her. I know what I see. What I wanted to understand is why some delivery company, not her, delivered these paintings. Not seeing her for more than a week was torture for me. The time difference, the long meetings, and plant visits made it even difficult to call. I miss her so much. I called her yesterday as soon as I a

(Tara's POV)It was a bizarre dream, but I could not remember where I was, except I was walking endlessly on the bridge with Clarice when I heard Bree calling me. When I stopped walking, Clarice seemed to understand. She smiled at me and nodded. I must have walked far because it took me time to reach the end, but I heard them talking about me every day. I listened to Bree as she read stories and sang to me. Whenever I heard Blake’s voice calling me to wake up, telling me how much he loves me, I would run. This morning, Bree woke me up with her song, but I couldn’t open my eyes. When I could finally open my eyelids, it was the god-like face of my fiance that my eyes first laid on. I feasted my eyes on him and thought of the day I saw him at the office with Sadie. It hurt me, but my heart was telling me how much he loved me, and that was enough for me to give us another chance. I closed my eyes again and fell into a deep sleep, dreaming of Blake and Bree on the island. Their loud chats

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 99 – Sleeping Beauty

(Blake's POV)It has been a week, but Tara remained unconscious. Jerome would use the term sleeping whenever Bree is around. He is always careful of his words, especially when my daughter’s almond-shaped eyes turn round at words she hardly understands.Fear still crept into my heart of losing her, and the only consolation I have that she would wake up one of these days is that her ventilator support was already taken away. She could breathe without the support of the machine, but when I asked him why she was not waking up, he explained many medical reasons. My heart has one explanation, though. Tara was giving up on me, and what scares me is hearing the words coming from her that she didn’t want me in her life.I watched Bree as she reads her book to her Mom. Her voice has become my alarm sound in the morning. She would sing to her and read her a story. After Stella or Gianna fed her breakfast,

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 98 – Learning From Bree

(Blake's POV)For how long I was staring blankly at nowhere, I did not know. My heart was aching much that all I wanted was to be with Tara, but I went out of her room because I felt dying, seeing Tara in her bed, still unconscious, and the beeping of the heart monitoring machine was driving me nuts.I lost the entire day with Tara when I woke up in one of the hospital rooms. I yelled at every nurse who came, hating they put me to sleep. What if Tara woke up and asked for me? No doctor, not even Jerome, could calm me down. Then Nana Shea came into my room, surprising me.“Blake,” She called my name, and I saw myself like I was a little child again. I cried and held onto her when she came to me.“Get a grip, Blake! Tara and Bree need you right now,” Nana Shea said, wiping my tears. “Unless you calm down, they won’t allow you to see Tara. You don’t want to scare Bre

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 97 – Hear My Side

(Blake's POV)Before my eyes could open, the corners of my mouth lifted already. As she snuggled closer to me and held on to me tighter, I felt to be the luckiest man in the world. I kissed her forehead before getting up from the bed slowly. I watched Tara, and with her uneven breathing, I now felt guilty for tiring her out last night. I kissed her shoulder and moved out from the bed slowly, letting her rest.Humming La Vie En Rose, I went down and started picking up our clothes I tossed anywhere last night. Bree will be coming home soon, and I didn’t want to explain why our dresses, especially the underwear were everywhere around the house. When I heard Bree and Jem entering the house, I still had our clothes in my hands, and I had to put the clothes on the couch because Bree ran to me excitedly. I crouched down and opened my arms to her.“Daddy!” She beamed and kissed my cheeks.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 96 – Fading Away

(Tara's POV)Slowly, my eyelids opened, and the morning sunshine greeted me. I rolled to my bed and realized I was alone, but my lips curved a sensual smile as I remembered what happened last night.“Show me that good sex you’re saying a while ago, Kitten,” He whispered in a raspy voice as we entered the elevator. His lips curved a playful smile as he pinned me to the wall and kissed me passionately.I never thought that those simple words would turn him on.I grabbed the sheets of my bedcovers, biting my bottom lip now as I recalled how I kissed him with lust and love. I was too angry with Sadie that another side of me came out of my body and soul.“You’re mine, Blake!” I uttered, kissing him and biting his earlobe as I whispered those words. “Every part of you is mine!” I said as I took off his tuxedo and opened the buttons of his dress suit.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 95 – Not A Charity Case

(Tara's POV)Being rich must be tiring, I said to myself as I looked around. The beautiful gown I was wearing today, including the shoes and accessories, could feed a family, or maybe an entire community for a week already. The pledges of the guests tonight were overwhelming, and surely the institution benefitting it would be thrilled. They have already exceeded the needed fund of the group for the charity they were supporting. Before I met Blake, all these were only part of my imagination existing only in movies and novels we used to read. Being here made me realize that two worlds were created—one for the rich and one for the poor. Yet one thing is needed to survive in both worlds. You have to be strong.“Shall we dance?” Blake asked, extending his hand to me.I smiled, feeling the relief of finally having Blake with me. He had been busy talking with many people tonight.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 94 – Eyes Like A Hawk

(Tara's POV)I stopped by the door, admiring Blake in his black tuxedo. He was too gorgeous that I wished to be selfish tonight, not wanting other women to look at him. “Just to remind you, Blake, this is a charity event, not your wedding yet,” Samantha grinned as she reminded him while fixing his bow tie. Samantha looked beautiful in her red gown with elaborative lace embroidery from top to bottom. Men would surely ogle at her as her long gown was designed with a high-cut halter neck and sheer side panels, but she kept on telling me I must be ready because cameras would be on me today, eyes of every guest would be fixed on me because of curiosity. She tapped his chest and turned him around to see me. She giggled when Blake opened his mouth, but no words came out.I shrugged, smiling sheepishly as I walked to him. “Samantha made me wear this,” I said, blushing.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 93 – Rejection

(Tara's POV)Blake kissed me with a mix of anger and love, but he stopped when I started touching him. It was as if he was burned with my touch, and when he saw me panting after that breathless kiss, his face went pale. His eyes suddenly were in a panic that he got up immediately and helped me sit.“Are you okay?” His eyes were round, and I could recognize the panic and fear overwhelming him.My eyes narrowed, and I looked at him. “I’m okay,” I said, still panting from the kiss.“Can you breathe?” He asked, now pacing in front of me, which he didn’t know stresses me now.“You’re overreacting, Blake,” I uttered as I took my clothes and started getting dressed. He shook his head. “I told you, we won’t do anything until I talked to your doctor until we have you thoroughly check and-”I stood up, now feeli

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 92 – My Heart is Just Fine

(Tara's POV)Samantha had brought me a long list of wedding planners she knew, and all I had to do was select the best one. We were about to go back to the office to talk about the charity event we would be attending when Blake startled us as he stormed inside and went straight to the bedroom.“What happened?” Samantha asked, standing up.I shook my head, leaving the magazines and papers on the center table, and we went upstairs. The door was opened wide, and as we stepped inside the bedroom, I could hear movements in the bathroom. My heartbeat was getting crazy at first, but I felt it stopping when we heard Blake screaming in anger. When he came out of the bathroom, his face was red, his eyes were flaring in anger, and he was breathing heavily as he threw everything in his hand. My eyes widened, and my body quivered as I recognized the things he threw in front of me. I gasped when I sa
