CHAPTER 34

As George braced himself for what he knew was inevitable, the hospital room door swung open, and Chief Rodriguez entered, flanked by two detectives. Their expressions were stern, their presence imposing in the small space.

"George Roland, you're under arrest for suspicion of arson," Chief Rodriguez announced, his voice cold and authoritative.

George's heart pounded in his chest as he stared at the officers, his mind racing with panic. "I-I don't know what you're talking about," he stammered, his voice shaky with fear.

The detectives moved forward, their hands reaching for George, but Mrs. Johnson stepped in between them, her eyes flashing with defiance. "You can't take him away like this," she protested, her voice ringing with determination. "He's still recovering from his injuries. Show some compassion, for heaven's sake."

Chief Rodriguez sighed, his patience wearing thin. "I understand your concern, ma'am," he said, his tone measured but firm. "But we have a duty to uphold the law.
