Havermouth, Present Time

“Keep an eye on the door,” Heath said to Cameron as Talen reached into his pocket and took out a pocketknife, flicking open the blade. Cameron stepped over to the doorway, his gaze switching between the little window and Talen, his fascination evident on his face.

“That’s a little generic and probably not too sanitary,” Rhett commented on the pocketknife.

“What did you expect?” Heath snorted. “One of those fancy pointed rings that your employees like to play with?”

“Well, yeah, actually,” Rhett retorted. “I sort of thought that was the origin of the design, or that maybe he’d use his teeth, not a pocketknife which he could have used for god knows what before.”

Talen flicked him an amused glance. “Like werewolves, vampires are pretty resilient to germs,” he replied. “And I only wear one piece of jewellery,” he gestured to his neck where the key to Aislen’s collar hung on the chain.

She automatically reached for her neck, with a panicked thought that the nurses

Talen is just amazing and loving - he’s what they all need for balance - I love how he kissed Aislen - stated he loved her - and then said “Talk to the dark one!”

Rideteb, Two Years Before The studio was quiet, and almost empty, just the way that Aislen liked it. Other than Jordan Daniels, the comic book artist who worked part time at the Rideten School of Art teaching, who was working on his course material in the little teacher’s office between the studios, she was alone. Sun streamed in through the generous windows catching on airborne dust, before spilling over the floorboards and the sharp scent of the ink of her pen merged with that of paints, oils and turpentine from the supply cupboard against the far wall. The table where Aislen worked caught the light perfectly. It was a little slice of heaven, she thought, or, at least, her version of it. She was inking in the final comic page for her end of year final submission, a work of meticulous care, requiring no interruption and a lot of patience. She preferred to work on tablet, but the Rideten School of Art was only just beginning to formally recognize comic book art as a subject rather t

Havermouth, Present TimeAislen was woken by a commotion in the hallway outside her room. Rhett had been napping in the recliner and threw himself immediately across the room to the door, pressing his shoulder against it and looking through the window. He relaxed almost immediately.“F-king reporter,” he muttered and glanced over to the bed. “Hey,” he smiled a little uncertainly. “Did I wake you?”“The reporter did,” she shifted restlessly in the bed. “What’s happening out there?”“Tabitha Marie trying to bluff her way into Stephan’s room down the hall. I guess she decided that she would throw staff off as they’d be anticipating another attempt to get into you, and she’d sneak into Stephan’s room instead. The security guys have got it handled. And there’s Heath and Cameron,” he added his face lighting as he opened the door.Heath paused in the doorway and leaned his head down to Rhett’s, murmuring something under his breath, but Cameron brushed past cheerfully with a bag in his hand.

Bless her daddy vampire, she thought fondly.“Okay, but be guided by your body and if it hurts, we will stop…”“I can carry her,” Cameron hovered anxiously as Aislen stood with the help of the nurses. “F-k…” His hands were already held out, wanting to push the nurses out of the way.“Boyfriend?” The nurse to Aislen’s left asked as they took a shuffling step towards the ensuite.“Yeah,” Aislen agreed. It was close enough a description for their relationship at the moment, she decided, and she was f-king over being ashamed and hiding. “Both are, actually,” she said with a slight shrug. “Four, really

Havermouth, Present Time “We should talk about the river house,” Heath said as they dried off after the shower. She ignored him and concentrated on drying her hair. She didn’t want to talk about it. She had said all that she wanted to say on the topic, and if she said any more, she knew that it would just start another argument. “Aislen,” he sat on the bed in order to put on his shoes. “I know that…” “Heath,” she flicked her hair back. “Don’t. Just don’t. Rhett had a go at me yesterday about accepting that Havermouth is my home and that I’m not going back to Kabramatta, and you guys have raised several times going to stay at the river house. You can’t bully me into it, and you need to stop trying to do so.” His grey eyes met hers and she held them stubbornly refusing to back down. He nodded slowly. “We are your mates,” he said softly. She inhaled and released it slowly. “I love you,” she told him. “I love the three of you. I want to try to make something of this relationship. I a

One leg in each leg hole, right?” Cameron was already almost fully dressed, his shirt hanging open but his jeans and shoes on.“Need coffee before my brain will wake up fully,” Rhett replied.“For f-ksake,” He

The failure rate is too high. She has three werewolves and a vampire as her mates. If we can’t turn her, it is only logical that he will.”“And then what!” Rhett’s fury was such that the words were all but yelled. “We grow old, whilst she stays eternally young?”“Would you rather her grow old and die, when she has the option to be young and live forever?” Heath demanded. “We cannot give her that, but he can!”“What about kids?” Cameron asked. “If he turns her into a vampire, can she still have kids?”They fell into silence, their eyes flicking to Aislen and then away.“I can have kids,” she answered their unspoken question. “Bitch-faced Tabby Cat was speaking shit.
