Havermouth, Present Time
“I’m sorry,” Heath was jolted from erotic fantasy into the real world with a jarring abruptness. “What did you say?”
“I said that you should get dressed, my mate,” Talen held out a pair of jeans. “Cameron and Rhett were at the high school, but there have been explosions there tonight, and we need to find out if they are okay. And Morgana has gone. I think that she has gone after them.”
“Wha…?” Heath pulled back his thoughts. Everything was blurred and confused but sifted back into focus as he concentrated. He remembered being separated from Cameron, and then his torture, waking in Talen’s arms, their vows, the sex… How long had it been? And Cameron had still been trapped… Not alone though, Rhett had gone. “Shit. They are okay though?” He asked, his voice hoarse.
“The explosions tonight… I don’t know,” Talen admitted heavily, his composure dropping to reveal the anxiety below it. “I do not know. We would know, I feel, if Cameron and Rhett were…?” He trailed off, leaving them both in horror of the incomplete sentence.
“Yes,” Heath nodded his head empathically. It was too terrible to even contemplate, and he was certain that something so horrible could not happen without him even knowing about it. “Yes, we would know.” He would know, he told himself firmly, he would know.
“And Morgana… I am also certain that we would know,” Talen gripped Heath’s shoulder and squeezed it reassuringly. “But I will feel better if I had them in my arms, as I’m sure you would also.”
“I can’t believe… The school exploded?” Heath struggled to process it. “What else have I missed?”
“A lot,” Talen said grimly. “What do you remember?”
Heath frowned searching his thoughts. “It’s… Parts are very vague,” he admitted heavily. “I remember…” He remembered being pinned helpless to the chair, with his trousers around his calves, feeling the cold air against his balls, and the look in the torturer’s eyes as he’d reached between Heath’s thighs.
Bile rose in Heath’s throat, and he clasped a hand over his mouth, swallowing it back. “I’m going to kill that f-ker,” he said thickly, covering for his discomfort, for the raw helplessness that he’d felt, the exposed vulnerability of having a stranger handle his genitals knowing that person intended to use them to hurt him. There was a whole nightmare that was connected to that realization, that would probably haunt him for the rest of his life, he thought grimly. He was an alpha, for f-k sake, the alpha of a Triquetra, which was… He couldn’t… He wasn’t…
He wasn’t meant to feel so fragile.
He shook himself physically, banishing the physical sensation of the memory, and lifted his eyes to Talen’s. The vampire’s expression was entirely too knowing, he thought, feeling as if Talen’ gaze stripped him back to his bones. “I…” He said, brokenly.
“I, too, have been a prisoner, a slave,” Talen said slowly, as if pulling the words up from a deep, darkness within, each costing him pain. “My father had been handing over control gradually as was our way. No man is ever meant to rule for eternity, it is always a temporary role, a transitory guardianship for the next generation. I was close to assuming the leadership of my people, perhaps fifty years, or so? Hmm,” he hummed, uncomfortably, looking down as he buttoned up his shirt, his pain evident on his face. “Close. The transition might have taken decades, but I had… I was confident and I had embraced it, I knew that it was my role and that I was capable of fulfilling it…”
He swallowed thickly. “And then, when I was just over a century of age, I returned home one season to find that my home had been burnt to the ground, along with my family. I pursued the attackers through the country, past destroyed stronghold, to destroyed stronghold, my anger growing and burning within me until,” he blew out a breath, the pain still vivid. “Until I reached the stronghold of my uncle and found that his second mate and son had… Hmph,” he sighed out the sound, it’s richness a full sentence in itself. He shook his head, unable to put to words the tragedy. “I was…”
He swallowed thickly. “I was betrayed,” the betrayal was still in his voice, raw and visceral. “I was betrayed, poisoned, weakened, and imprisoned. I was sent to the human’s lands, and there magical cuffs were put upon me,” he looked at his wrists as if still seeing those bindings. “Bindings created by a witch, who they continued to torment, seeming determined to torture unto death. I broke free, and took her with me, making her my second child, Meguitte,” his eyes flared red with his rebellion against the humans who had tried and failed to break him, the tension of his confession breaking. “I have always adopted rebels,” Talen’s smile was all teeth.
Heath’s lips curled. “I’d believe that.”
Talen laughed wryly through his nose. “So, says one of my adopted rebels, little mate.”
“Now,” Heath flirted, trying to distract his mate from the weight of that terrible memory and bring him fully back into the present. “I find that insulting. I’m not little.”
“No,” Talen purred, stroking his hand down Heath’s stomach to close around his c-ck so that Heath sucked in air through his nose, his eyes widening at the sudden kick back into desire, his hyper-sensitized body aching, adrenaline from his fear for his mates converting into a frantic need to f-k. “Not little at all,” the vampire purred.
Heath panted. Talen’s hand seemed to send electrical currents shoot along his nerves. “I hope not. Enough to make you cry out my name as you come,” he groaned, reaching out to stroke his hands up Talen’s sides, seeking to pull him closer.
Talen laughed under his breath, his eyes flaring again with red light. “Very true, my mate,” he rumbled. “Hopefully for the rest of my very long life. But now, put on your f-king jeans. Cameron and, probably Rhett, were at that school and it exploded. I refuse to believe that they came to harm in the explosion. I am sure that I would know…”
“We would know,” Heath agreed meeting the vampire’s eyes.
Talen nodded solemnly. “We would surely know,” he agreed. “That we don’t, I’m choosing to think as a sign that our mates are out there…”
Heath nodded. “Let’s go and bring our mates home.”
Leighton’s workroom was empty, but at the bottom of the stairs, they became trapped by a crowd of vampires and witches, their voices tangling as they all spoke, and the air fetid with the sharp scent of fear and adrenaline.
“Silence!” Sigrid spoke up, her voice commanding. The room fell still and silent. “Very well. This is what we’re going to do. The witches are going to scry and cast another mirror spell, and my children and I will continue our search of the town. Let us… Talen,” she interrupted herself and all heads turned to where the vampire stood next to Heath on the last stair. “Heath,” she smiled. “Welcome brother and father both.”
“That is just…” Heath shook his head as he realized that both titles were directed to him. A vampire’s family structure was convoluted, he thought, as in being turned by Talen, he became a sibling to Sigrid, and in becoming Talen’s mate, he became a parent. But then, he admitted to himself, he was part of a Triquetra, and therefore an expert at complicated relationships. “Hi, Sigrid.”
“We were just organizing to return to searching,” Sigrid told Talen.
“I have it,” the head witch, Aislen’s friend, entered the hallway from one of the small offices that they were using as bedrooms, holding up a notepad and pen. “Let’s hope that we can do this without Morgana.”
“What does it say?” Heath wondered.
The witch blushed. “Nothing yet. She wrote a poem last time, so I think that I should keep it consistent, but I suck at poetry.”
“She likes her poetry,” Heath agreed stepping off the stairs and pushing through the vampires and witches to take the paper from her. He frowned as he tried to think of what to say.
“Here,” Talen took the pen and notepad and braced against Heath’s back.
“If we’re hungry,” Tyler asked from amongst the vampires, and Heath started, seeing the red glow in the man’s eyes. “Can we grab a bite to eat whilst we’re out searching?”
Talen laughed under his breath and reached out to drag the man into his embrace, pressing a kiss into his hair before releasing him. “Congratulations,” he said.
Tyler grinned. “Same to you.”
“Be safe out there,” Talen told him paternally. “And, yes, you can feed from any Van Helsings that you encounter.” He returned to bracing the notepad against Heath and began to write.
Heath’s stomach rumbled and he felt a wave of nausea as he pressed his hand to it, grimacing. “Tyler’s not the only one hungry.”
“I will be going to the other Van Helsing sites,” Sigrid announced, addressing the vampires. “We know that they’ve occupied some of the hotels. With the town hall and the school destroyed, they will need to regroup somewhere, and if Talen’s mates are still prisoners, they will be relocated there.”
“Heath and I will go to the school and try to find any sign of our mates,” Talen handed the notepad to the witch. “Everyone else search the streets between the school and here. They will try to return to us, so it’s possible that they can be found enroute.”
Heath leaned over the witch and raised his eyebrows as he read the lines. “Aislen will like that.”
“Alright,” Talen looked around at the odd gathering. “Remember that the people of Havermouth are innocents in this, but the Van Helsings are our enemies, and as such, stay safe, and feel free to use violence against them.”
“Talen,” Leighton stood in the doorway to the large chamber of zombies. “A word?”
“Be safe,” Talen said to Sigrid and squeezed Tyler’s shoulder as he passed him, working his way to Leighton. In the room behind the warlock, Heath could see Leighton’s wife and daughter moving between the sleeping people. “I am sorry to be depriving you of blood,” Talen said to Leighton.
“All those within this room have been treated,” Leighton replied, glancing over his shoulder. “I am keeping them in stasis until things are calmer. They will need to acclimate to a new world, and waking in the current situation…” He shook his head. “I wanted to tell you that I will be leaving. I need to cross the river and return to the cave, to see if I am still missing people, and I need to access my spell components from my house in order to try to trace just where in the water the source of contamination is coming from, so I can retrieve the dead and dispose of them.”
“Will the water go back to normal, after?” Heath wondered.
“I don’t know,” Leighton admitted heavily. “Another reason that I need to return to my home. I will attempt to create a water purification spell, in the hopes of eradicating the contamination and making the water safe again. This… mess of mine,” he sighed heavily. “Will take some time to sort out. I need to find the humans who have been infected by the bites, or the water, and help them. My duties have expanded and not shrunk, unfortunately. My penance for my mistake is far from done.”
“I’m sorry,” Talen said with empathy. “And I am sorry that we are unable to help more.”
“I will leave my wife and daughter to guard these ones,” Leighton gestured to the room. “And return as soon as I can. I ask you to watch over my Verina and Mercy. They are… everything to me,” he said softly. “We have never been parted. I would take them with me, but then I will be leaving the sleepers vulnerable…”
“We will do everything in our power to look after your loved ones,” Talen promised.
“Thank you,” Leighton bowed his head. “For everything. And I wish you luck in finding Aislen Carter and your missing werewolves,” his eyes rested on Heath. “I am glad to see that you survived the change, Heath Gale,” he said. “And I’m very intrigued as to what you now are and what you can do.”
“So am I,” Heath replied grimly. “And we’re going to find out just what a hybrid can so if my mates have been harmed by the Van Helsings. I guarantee it will be painful for them.”
Welcome to The Pack's Rebels. Havermouth is in chaos. Can our heroes save the day with lots of kinky sex along the way? Happy Reading :-)
Havermouth, Present Time“It was necessary to destroy the facilities,” August said grimly. “We fought a battle with the Van Helsings for control of the power station and lines of communication, and it became evident that we were both determined and evenly positioned to win. It was necessary to destroy them in order to prevent the Van Helsings from gaining control.”“You fought a battle…” Rhett repeated slowly. “A battle. One battle with the Van Helsings, and because of that battle, you decided to deprive this entire area of power, internet and reliable phones?”“You do not understand,” August snapped. “Someone who has never fought, who has no strategic training, cannot imagine the decisions being made, and the pressure under which they are being made.”“Well,” Rhett drew in a breath, his continued obstinance in the face of the lead alpha’s irritation a display of his rogue nature. “I might not have fought in a battle against the Van Helsings, but I’m pretty sure I would have thought t
Havermouth, Present Time Escaping captivity had not resolved her problems, Meguitte admitted to herself as Harry and Connery consulted in hissed whispers over her head. If the werewolves discovered that she was Logan’s mate, they would take her prisoner in order to use her against him. If the nice young red-haired man, his father and his lover discovered that she had created the cuffs that had been used to imprison them and their pack members, they would kill her. Then, there was the problem of Connery. She was just… so confused. So very, very confused, and guilty. She had always known, she would have been a fool not, that Connery had always wanted more from her than their friendship. His desire for more and her knowledge of it, had always kept her guarded in their interactions. She had taken care not to see him too frequently, and not to be with him, alone, for too long, not wanting to encourage him to believe that she was open to romance. It was not fair, to him or to her, she tho
Havermouth, Present TimeHeath pushed through the witches undressing in the warehouse’s reception, following the vampires out into the night. The vampires… Of which he was one, he realized as his stomach rumbled again. There was a strong smell of burnt wood, and the night air was thick, the sky clouded. The smoke did not hide the scent of the vampires around him, metallic blood from their last meals and the body odours and mustiness of clothing from people living in crowded rooms without access to washing machines. He could smell the cooling concrete and tarmac, the petrichor of the earth warning that it was going to rain before morning, and the distant scent of a bin left to moulder too long in all the drama of the flood and the Van Helsing take-over of the town. The sudden movement of the vampires, scattering into the night, their motions so fast that although he could track it with his hybrid vision, they seemed to drag a tail of color behind them before vanishing into the night as
Havermouth, Present Time“I’m going to shift,” Heath began to undress. “My senses are heightened in human form, they might be even more so in wolf form.”Talen reached out to take Heath’s clothing from him knowing that they were both avoiding the fear that Heath would no longer be able to shift. There was only one way in which to discover whether the ability remained.“As you wish, my mate,” Talen agreed watching as the moonlight that filtered through the high-placed windows shifted over Heath’s skin as he stripped off his jeans. The scars across Heath’s chest were a stark reminder of the trauma that he had seen in Heath’s eyes at the warehouse.Talen was so relieved that despite his injuries and the cuff, not only had Heath turned as a strong vampire he was stronger and faster than any vampire that Talen had ever known, including himself. And he was immensely proud of Heath. His mate had taken to his transformation remarkably well, and his first feed had been magnificent. However, he
Havermouth, Present TimeAislen panted through her teeth in short, ragged gasps. She had wet herself and her jeans stuck to her skin unpleasantly, cold against her thighs, but that was the least of her discomforts and the initial humiliation had swiftly passed, washed away in the flood of agony in which a little piss was nothing but a small leak.“Pain is fascinating, isn’t it?” Sparrow watched her face. “How people endure, and how they do not. My mentor told me that pain is weakness leaving the body. What do you think?”“I think that I hate you,” she sobbed in a breath.“You are very interesting,” he tilted his head. “No pleading. Most people in your position would be begging me to stop. Please don’t hurt me anymore. I’ll tell you anything. Please consider my unborn child…” He prompted. “There are worse things that I could do to you, Raven. Nothing I have done so far will do more than leave some bruises and a bit of blood.”“I’ve been through something like this before,” she confesse
Havermouth, Present TimeShe was given the opportunity to shower in a tiny room down the hall from the torture chamber, with Robin waiting outside of the shower cubicle and no privacy. However, between the seduction of the warm water, and the ability to wash the piss from her skin, Aislen did not care that the other woman could see far more than a stranger should. Her fingertips stung as the soap from the shampoo got into the wounds beneath her nails, and she hissed as she shook them under the spray of the shower.“He’s a real arsehole, that Sparrow,” she complained to Robin.“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” Robin replied predictably. “If you understood, you’d say differently.”“Okay, explain it to me then,” Aislen’s skin along her forearms wore bruises in tracks from his pinchers. Small pains, she reminded herself. It could have been worse. It would be worse in the morning, if she didn’t come up with something in the interim, but the warmth of the water and her exhaustion
Havermouth, Present Time“It wasn’t Aislen,” Rhett said under his breath as they trailed the Point Crest Triquetra through the streets. The human children were getting restless and Meguitte’s spell was wearing off, their mother’s cheerful acceptance gradually fading, and her expression growing tense as her eyes darted around their small group, obviously beginning to question precisely why she was walking with them.Harry was doing their best to keep the children entertained with magic tricks, making flowers appear in their hands, and coins in pockets, and other such foolery in a combination of actual sleight of hand and vampire-speed, but Rhett and Cameron had fallen into step behind them, expecting that the mother would make a run for it at some point.Behind them, Connery and Meguitte discussed spell components in quiet tones. Things were not all well there either, Rhett thought. With Meguitte’s initial shock fading into distress, Connery was alternating between distracting her and
Havermouth, Present Time“Shh, Aislen Carter,” Toby put his finger to his lips. “Help me.”Several of the other mind-f-ked Van Helsings were in the walkway between the cages, their hospital gowns revealing more than they hid in the light spilled into the room through the open door. In the doorway the others were keeping lookout into the foyer. They were all armed, the contrast between the high powered guns and their bare-footed barely clad state lending an air of unreality that was not helped by the fact that Aislen had been woken out of a deep sleep, exhausted after her torture.Either the movement or the scent on blood on Toby was beginning to wake the zombiefied people in the cages, and Aislen knew she needed to decide quickly. “F-k it,” she took his hand, and he pulled her out of the bed.“What about us?” Dr James sat up in her bed and gripped the bars. “Don’t abandon us all.”Toby tossed the keys into her cage, the jangle of the metal loud and Dr James dove in pursuit. “We should
Havermouth, The Present Aislen sat on the bench seat of one of the Unimogs whilst Talen and the Heath met with Rohan. There were lot of hand signals gesturing beyond the destruction of the farm and solemn expressions on their faces. When she looked up, she could see that Rhett and Cameron were busy helping to carry injured to the waiting vehicles and that the vampires and werewolf soldiers were destroying what remained of the farm’s buildings, ensuring that there was no way that the Van Helsings could return and continue to use the site. The crashing and shouting as they tore the buildings to pieces was giving Aislen a headache and she paused in her poetry writing to pinch her brows. “Here,” Bianca climbed nimbly up the Unimog’s ladder and offered Aislen a bottle of water and two pills. “Paracetamol. You’ve been sitting here rubbing at your head, so I know you’ve got a headache.” “Thanks,” Aislen took the pills and washed them back with the water. “Ah shit,” she said after she’d sw
Havermouth, The PresentRhett and Heath shifted into human form and the Triquetra threw their arms around each other and him, their hands smearing mud and blood onto each other unheeding in their relief that all four had made it through unscathed. Over Heath’s shoulder, Talen saw Morgana slip and slide through the mud, her cheeks streaked with tears as she saw them, and he held out a hand, welcoming her in, the Triquetra pulling her into the center of the embrace. It was where she belonged, Talen thought as he leaned his face into her hair and breathed the scent of his female mate into his lungs. Morgana had always been the center, the heart of their family, the piece that made the rest of them make sense together.“Everyone’s in one piece,” she pivoted slowly round the circle of her men, inspecting each for injury, smearing away blood and mud with her hands in order to make sure that they didn’t hide wounds below.“We’re fine. We are fine,” Heath laughed wetly. “Really, Aislen, we’re
Havermouth, The PresentTalen kept watch as Harry set the explosives under the last of the guns. Of all five machine gun stations, this one was the most exposed, and Talen could feel the prickle of stress sweat between his shoulder blades. They had debated leaving this one completely and hoping that the explosions from the other stations would be enough, but the Van Helsings on duty there had been called to help load a helicopter that was waiting to take off, leaving the station as an open invitation for sabotage. When Harry eased out from under the station and slunk through the shadows to Talen’s side, the relief dragged through Talen’s muscles like the heavy refractory period after sex. He was exhausted, and that terrified him as he knew that the battle was ahead. Get through it, he told himself. Win this battle, and then take your mates to the river house, as Cameron had suggested, for three days and nights of f-king and feasting upon his mates as he turned them.It would be bliss.
Havermouth, The PresentIt was one thing to ride a Unimog through town, and another to travel on one long distance for over an hour, Aislen thought grimly. She was certain that most of her bones had been shaken loose and that when she eventually did stand up, she’d collapse in a jumble of limbs like in a cartoon. She’d been trying to work on another Secret Keeper post, working in a notebook that she’d stolen from one of the desks in the bunker, but her handwriting was so shaky that she wasn’t sure she’d be able to read it afterwards. She also wasn’t sure if she was being optimistic in it’s message. However, if she wasn’t writing, then she had to focus on what was happening around her, where they were going, and the fact that they had to be getting close, and there still was no sign of Talen. Was he okay? She would know, wouldn’t she? She asked herself. If something had happened to him, she was sure that she would feel it somehow, like a wound to her heart.“He’s fine,” she said out lo
Havermouth, The PresentThe farm’s vegetable gardens had been trampled underfoot, without any care for the vegetables and fruits left unharvested, the Van Helsings having abandoned any pretence of the site being anything other than what it was – a military facility. Entrance into the farm from the main road was controlled by guards and cement roadblocks, however, away from the public side of the farm, the security relaxed. There were flood lights set at key points, but their focus was inward and in daylight, they had been turned off.One field contained neat rows of tents, and a portable shower and toilet building which was in use as Harry and Talen crept around it’s edges, someone singing an atrocious rendition of a popular love song as they showered. It made Talen pause, hearing that singer, and a fury began to burn in the pit of his stomach. The Van Helsings at this site were so at ease, so comfortable, that they sang in the shower, where he and his mates had spent nearly every mom
Havermouth, The PresentHeath woke to discover that he had slept through Talen leaving and that pissed him off as whilst he recognized the vampire’s seniority and experience, Heath was faster and stronger, and he felt that it just made sense for him to be included in the mission, and that if anyone should have been left behind, it should have been Harry.Sigrid and her Triquetra had control of the bunker by the time Heath’s Triquetra left their room with Aislen. They met briefly in the room and ran over the sparse information that Talen had given to Cameron and Rohan before his departure and to try to piece together a plan of attack with Rohan – something which was difficult as they had no idea the total size of Haven Farm, and Heath could only roughly sketch the areas that he had been admitted to when visiting Charlotte, and on the times he’d been on the escorted tour.None of the maps that they had showed property boundaries, and even Sigrid’s Triquetra’s fancy toys didn’t have any
Havermouth, The PresentTalen slipped out of the bed when the wait staff arrived in the morning, pulling on yesterday’s trousers in order to open the door and pressing his fingers to his lips to indicate that they should be quiet as they delivered the breakfast and clothing. He admired the efficiency of the bunker, despite the disruption to the leadership everything continued to run like clockwork and thanked the staff quietly as they departed. He showered quickly and dressed in the clean clothing, before creeping back out into the main living area.Cameron looked up from the table. “You’re up early.”“Shh,” Talen placed his finger on his lips as he checked to make sure that Cameron had closed the bedroom door behind him. “You should be asleep, Cameron,” he said quietly as he crossed to ruffle the werewolf alpha’s russet curls.“I smelled pancakes,” Cameron told him with a bright smile as he uncovered them. “Ahhh,” he sighed in satisfaction. “Would you just look at that? Blueberry pre
Havermouth, The PresentHeath rose from the bed as Rhett lifted Cameron’s face to his and kissed him, pushing Cameron’s hand away from his c-ck so that he could take hold of it, causing Cameron to moan into the kiss as Rhett stroked him.Talen released, Morgana’s leg, leaning over to suck on the nipple that was exposed as she lowered her knee to the mattress. He teased the tips with his teeth, knowing that the pinch of the clip would make them sensitive, and slid his hand down her stomach to rub against her clit as Heath positioned himself.“Would you like some Edison brand lube?” Rhett’s grin was wicked. He had wrapped his arm around Cameron, holding his redhaired mate by the throat, just under the jaw, and Cameron’s face was slack with pleasure as Rhett’s other hand jerked his c-ck viscously.“Hmm,” Talen laughed through his nose. “Go on then,” he encouraged them. Cameron would have time to recover from the orgasm and be good for a second round before the night was through, he predi
Havermouth, The PresentThe moment the door opened; Rhett jerked Aislen to face him, his eyes intense. “Play time,” he growled his wolf shading the amber of his irises with an oily sheen of green and gold. He pulled her top up and off her without breaking their gazes, and then lifted his own top up slowly in a delicious display of tattooed skin and muscle made more striking by his leanness.Heath and Cameron fell in behind him, assuming the Triquetra formation that she had seen them take so many times, an unconscious werewolf move, hunters stalking their prey, and she caught her bottom lip between her teeth as she backed towards the bedroom, Rhett keeping pace with her, the distance between them precise, his eyes locked on hers.Talen closed the door behind them and strolled nonchalantly towards the kitchenette.Rhett unbuttoned his trousers, his c-ck pushing against the fly so that the teeth opened little by little with every throb. “Undress, Aislen,” he purred the words, his smirk w
