Trayrock, Present Time

The rest of the drive no one spoke. The dragons had fallen asleep leaning on each other, Heath was deep in his own head, and Phillip was smugly content to watch the scenery having won his point. Aislen guessed that was why he was such a highly regarded lawyer – the man was dogged. Quite literally. She snorted at her own thought, interrupting the silence and startling Ember awake.

“Sorry,” Aislen was contrite. “Go back to sleep. We’re just approaching the edge of Trayrock now. I just had a random werewolf joke cross my mind, and it made me laugh.”

“A werewolf joke?” Heath arched an eyebrow.

“It wouldn’t translate into a retelling,” she apologized. “Ah, shit,” she added as she saw a traffic stop ahead with flashing red and blue lights. “Here we go again,” she predicted darkly. She could see black-clad men amongst the police.

She tensed as Talen was waved to the side of the road, and a police officer leaned into him holding a Van Helsing device. “Fuck, fuck, fuck,”

I was expecting that to happen. Not quite so quickly, though. That could throw a spanner in the works.

I knew she'd end up running into her Mum. Though something tells me she is going to be surprisingly proud of Aislen.

Vince and I have been trying to get word to Havermouth! It’s not safe here,” was whispered into Aislen’s ear. “We need to get out. These men… They have locked Trayrock down.”“I know mum,” Aislen hugged her back. Tiffany felt thin and brittle, her bones seeming to shift under her skin. “Are you alright?”“Fine, fine,” Tiffany eased back and wiped her eyes with her fingertips. “I’ll be right with you,” she added over her shoulder to Talen, who had paused in his perusal of the racks in order to observe Tiffany’s interaction with Aislen.“You work here,” Aislen realised taking note of the badge on Tiffany’s chest which had “Tiffany” handwritten on it.“Mmm,” Tiffany adjusted the badge. “Well, I’m helping out, really. Trayrock, Present TimeTiff shuddered as she got out of the car, holding her clutch purse tight to her chest. “So close to the water, Aislen. You have to be careful. So many weird things are happening, and it all comes back to the water and what is in it.”“Yes, we know,” Aislen agreed taking her mum by the elbow. Samuel, Talen, and the Triquetra were busy emptying the boots of the many purchases they’d all made. She encouraged Tiffany into the bar, pausing on the threshold as the stale smell of alcohol and smoke struck them.“We met in a very similar place,” Talen observed from behind her with amusement.“So we did,” she smiled up at him, before getting her stomach under control and guiding the mincing Tiffany further in. There were booths tucked under the windows. One was already occupied by Allistaire and his cameraman, and Jacinta and Addison. They looked up in interest as Talen and the Triquetra marched through towards a rear door that led into a stairwell.“Unusual occupation fo

He held a bundle of pillows tucked under his arm and was dragging a pile of blankets and sheets off the beds. “Ah, yeah, I might have added a few items to Aislen’s pile.”“Sweet,” Cameron approved and placed it into a drawer.Talen pushed the single bed up against the queen. The room was pretty basic, but the walls were freshly painted in neutral colors, and there was a door onto the balcony and two deep-set windows. The floorboards were bare, but the bedding was clean and of good quality. The artwork was bland, but the nightstands had little vases of freshly picked lavender which was a nice, simple touch. It was clean and functional, and that was all Heath cared about.Or it would be functional when they finished re-arranging the furniture.“It would be best to remake the bed this way,” Talen gestured. “The separation between the

Trayrock, Present Time“What about being scared I’ll turn people’s brains into scrambled eggs?” Aislen said to Heath under her breath as they navigated the congested entrance to the hospital. The carpet was faded underfoot, and the hospital smelled of disinfectant, sickness, and coffee from the café to the left of the sliding doors as they entered. There was a reception desk to the right, but Heath headed straight towards the staircase that dominated the foyer as if he knew where he was going. Which he did, she realized searching his thoughts. He had, of course, looked it up online.“Scrambled eggs,” Rhett sniggered.“If you’re going to practice your abilities on someone, Aislen,” Heath replied. “I’d rather it not be one of us. That aside, I’m trusting you. This is not a casual visit just for the fun of it. This is an opportunity to get medical care for a very important pregnancy, and a patient who has a history of complications. I wouldn’t risk civilians casually, but it will be nec

Trayrock, Present TimeCameron followed Aislen to the bathroom. They had to stand in a queue of other pregnant women, but the toilet cubical was disability friendly, and when Aislen went inside, Cameron slipped in too.“I’m not going to be able to pee in front of you,” Aislen scolded him as she pulled down her jeans and hovered over the seat, holding the cup in position with a scowl.“I’ll turn my back and turn on the tap,” he replied, doing both, and then leaning forward to examine his face in the mirror, grimacing. “No one thought to tell me that I have… What is that?” He rubbed at his cheek before looking at his fingers and then back at his reflection. “It can’t be blood. It’s too dark. Isn’t life weird,” he went on cheerfully as he pulled a paper towel out of the holder and wet it. “It used to be – Is that shit or mud on my face? Now it’s – is that blood? You’re not peeing.”“I can’t pee,” she pouted. “It’s not fair. I need to pee when I don’t want to go and can’t pee when I do.”

Trayrock Present Time“What does it mean?” Rhett asked as they left the ultrasound room. “I don’t get this. Someone spell it out for me.”“We haven’t been back together for eighteen weeks. It’s not possible that Aislen has been pregnant for that long,” Heath explained patiently, scanning the hallways. He was looking for Van Helsings, Aislen realized, and for any activity that might be because of the water illness. Ronnie had said that people weren’t allowed in and out, and yet, this section of the hospital had no signs of any issues and they had been able to get in and out without any problems. “Aislen wasn’t pregnant before she came to Havermouth. The baby is definitely ours, which means it is growing at an accelerated rate. Was it growing at an accelerated rate from inception, or has its growth increased since Aislen was turned?”“That’s bad, right?” Rhett was trying to get his head around it, his fingers fidgeting with the cigarette packet he’d stolen from Allistaire.“It’s cute,”

The Werewolf Camp, Present TimeThere was no smoke or smell of fire in the air as she and Niarthen approached the werewolf camp. The squadron had arrived ahead of them, following the path of the river, and a couple of curious Mer soldiers were crossing the bridge as Lyric and Niarthen reached the end. They watched as one held out her hand, stilling the Mer man behind her. She knelt carefully onto the swaying bridge.“Trap,” Niarthen said in a low voice as there was a reaction amongst the Mer soldiers on the bank around them. “No one dares to get into the water for fear of its toxic effects. They need to either disarm the trap from the bridge or wait until a sub makes its way upstream.”“They were smart,” Lyric noted as the Mer continued to work at the trap. “Leaving a trap behind, in case the Van Helsings found the remains of the camp.”“Yes,” Niarthen agreed. “But we cannot be sure that they left until we access the island.”“Does it matter?” She asked warily. “If some remain on the

Trayrock, Present Time“Oh shit, that’s not good,” Cameron said as they approached the pub. The painted car parks directly before the pub were all filled, and Talen had to be inventive with his parking spot, positioning the car where there technically wasn’t a parking space beneath a tree.“I think this is a keep clear zone,” Heath commented.Talen arched an eyebrow in reply.“What’s with all the cars?” Aislen wondered. The street was filled with them. Talen wasn’t the only one creatively parking, more than one had slightly mounted the curb or parked bumper to bumper with those around them in order to squeeze in.“Busy night at the pub?” Rhett suggested. As they got out, music could be heard pumping out of the open pub doors and windows, along with the swell of voices.“Fuck,” Aislen winced. So much for keeping things hush-hush. For a pub that had all been closed according to Ronnie’s thoughts, they were having a busy day. They hurried along the pavement to the nearest door and had to

“Mine,” Rhett caught Aislen by the shoulders and turned her, pulling her body flush with his so that he could seal his mouth over hers and steal away Heath’s cum from her tongue. “Hmm,” he said as he eased back and used the tip of his little finger to wipe the corner of her mouth. “Delicious.”“This is going to take some finessing,” Talen said as Rhett stepped away so that Talen could take his place. The big, blonde man very gently stroked Aislen’s hair back out of her face before his hand strayed to the Concordian collar around her neck. He straightened it. “It has been a while since we have done this.”“Done what, Daddy?” She asked him and then gasped as Rhett picked her up and deposited her on the bed, straddling Heath’s hips and facing him. Suddenly the way that he was tied made a lot of sense, the space between his legs made room for someone to kneel between them, and the sex pillow beneath his hips would position Aislen at the right height for a man behind and one in front. “Oh

Aislen’s eyes adjusted to the darkness inside the Playroom with supernatural quickness and she smothered her laughter as she saw what Talen had been up to. The bed had been looped with Christmas fairy lights, tinsel, and red bows that held candy canes in place. As they neared, Talen activated the fairly lights so that the room, and its many sordid toys, flashed and flickered in shades of red and green - as did the two men already on the bed.Cameron wore a body harness similar to her own. It was on full display as he knelt on the end of the bed, his arms tied to the bedframe above his head, and a candy cane tied with ribbon as a gag. Talen, as a nod to the season, had used a red ribbon to tie a bow around Cameron’s cock. Tinsel had been draped around his neck like a feather boa.Heath was stretched out on the bed behind him, his arms spread and bound to the headboard, and his knees bent, heels to arse, and restrained there with ribbon that circled his ankles and looped around his wais

As Heath steered the car back out of Havermouth, Aislen watched the town pass by her window. It was both familiar and foreign, with the influence of the Mer seen in the repairs to the old buildings and the ever-increasing amount of greenery spilling over the walls from roof-top gardens. The way people dressed and interacted on the streets had changed too, with more and more people adopting the toga-like styles of the Mer clothing. Aislen caught a glimpse of Anne Mason talking with a group of tall intrigued looking Mers, and she wore multiple strings of the Mer’s bead and shell necklaces and bracelets as she smiled and gestured animatedly at the street around them.“I wonder what Anne is up to,” she remarked to Heath. “She looks like she’s leading a tour of the town. That’s probably what it is,” she answered herself. “She’d be good at that role.”“Do you miss it?” Heath asked her.“The telepathy?” She knew what he meant. “Yes and no. This is sort of cool,” she used her telekinesis to l

Cameron had baby-napped Gera for a day on the farm with her grandparents Harry and Jules, and so Heath and Aislen were travelling light to Havermouth.“Feels weird,” Heath said what Aislen was thinking. “Not hearing her in the back seat, and not having to lug around the baby bag in case she poops or pukes. I think we should have another.”“What?” Aislen’s jaw dropped. That last comment had come out of nowhere.“Another baby,” he smirked enjoying her reaction. “Gera’s six months old now, and I think we’re ready to add to our family.”“I’m not precisely preventing it,” she pointed out. “I’m not on any contraception, and I’m constantly leaking enough second-hand cum that I could probably repopulate the entire planet with a turkey baster.”“I know,” his smirk became a grin. “I’m just saying, if you were pregnant, it would be a good thing, wouldn’t it?”“Hang on now,” she narrowed her eyes at him. There was something to his teasing. “What are you getting at precisely?”“I’m just saying, yo

Aislen woke to Gera crying. She blinked as her eyes adjusted to the dark within Cameron’s room. It was night, but she couldn’t tell how far into it from the moonlight that drifted in through the part in Cameron’s curtains. Cameron was well out, snoring into the pillow, and she eased out from under his arm carefully so as not to wake him.Cameron had been working crazy hours, pretty much seven days a week, since the war trying to bring the two farms back to where they were before the storm, and to incorporate all the changes required for farming to be done by Mer environmental standards, which dictated everything from the way the sheep and cattle were treated for parasites through to run off from fields into the river. She stole the robe that hung of the back of his door as she tiptoed out of the room, easing the door closed behind her. Gera’s outrage had softened to gentle complaint which she traced to the kitchen. Heath, in a pair of striped PJ pants, was heating a bottle of blood, w

Rhett and Gera had attracted a horde of admirers in Rhett’s tattoo parlor and Aislen and Heath stood on the sidewalk watching him show off their daughter to his customers through the window, until someone pointed them out to them, and Rhett looked up, still grinning, his eyes bright with joy, and his cheeks heated as he realized he’d been busted.“Just look at him,” Heath scoffed his tone warm with amusement. “Bet he’s lying about doing the night duty all by himself again.”“He does get up a fair bit,” Aislen smiled up at him.“Yeah, but he complains about it like it’s the end of the world, and he doesn’t tell them that,” Heath nodded with his head towards the group saying goodbye to the baby. “I do most of the nights.”“And Cameron the early mornings,” Aislen reminded him.“He’s usually getting up then anyway,” Heath pointed out. “He’s half-rooster, up at dawn to wake us all up.”Aislen smothered her giggles.“What are you laughing at?” Rhett asked as he joined them. “Good timing, by

It was a very unusual Christmas Tree, but that was hardly surprising as it was a very different Havermouth. The new Havermouth Council was made up equally of all members of the community, and the tree represented the unification of these communities. Therefore, the tree had been carefully transplanted into the park, and was draped with bioluminescent strings of seaweed, crowned with a full moon, and hung with antique hand-carved toys and delicate ornaments made of gold and silver wire and what Aislen believed to be real gems, donated from the safes and other treasure vaults of the several hundred vampires that now called Havermouth home.In the old Havermouth, these gem-crusted ornaments would have disappeared within a day, however in the new Havermouth theft was not a problem. The police force included vampires and werewolves, and it had only taken a couple of demonstrations of their tracking abilities for thieves to learn to mend their ways.Aislen clapped along with the crowd as Ty

They also encountered many groups of people just standing on the road, talking in confusion. No one could quite understand what had happened, and no one was entirely confident that it was the end.Gera, true to form, had woken wanting to be fed, and so Aislen held the baby in her arms and watched out through the windows as they passed along the river road towards the bridge. “We’re a long way from done,” she said softly.“Yes,” Talen agreed. “But still, I feel as if we are far closer to peace, and I find myself optimistic and excited about the future before us.”“Me too,” Cameron agreed. “But that’s also how it feels when Aislen does her thing in your brain, so it could be that too.”“We haven’t really talked about that,” Heath added. “About what happened, Aislen?”“It’s hard to explain,” she said looking down at Gera and tracing the curve of the baby’s cheek wit

She wanted nothing more than to shower for a really long time, put on something that wasn’t coarse and itchy, and sleep. Heath put his arm around her absently, his attention on the discussion. She wanted to tell him that the world needed to take care of itself for a while, she had done her best for it, and it was time for her to sleep.“I can’t believe that she ate him,” Dan was seriously grossed out, Aislen could tell, although he kept his voice to a whisper.“I know,” Tom replied from the corner of his mouth, his eyes on Sigrid and Greg as they spoke with Niarthen. “Did you see the look on his face? He was just as surprised as we were.”“Will
