~ A M E L I A ~

Being in school almost made me feel like I was in a foreign land, maybe even a foreign planet. More than how I felt when I first arrived at the pack.

I would purposely arrive at school just in time to head to my first class of the day and wouldn’t even bother going to my locker unless it was completely necessary.

They were going to notice soon enough, my friends, they were going to realise that I was avoiding them on purpose. It was stupid to avoid them; I was likely making it more obvious that I was hiding something from them, but I was afraid. I was so afraid that the second they looked into my eyes, they would realise what I’d done: that I’d willingly slept with the guy who, for the entirety that I’d been in the pack, had shown his distaste towards me, who didn’t want me to stay, who wanted to hurt me…

How was I meant to ever tell them? They won’t look at me the same.

Yet, I couldn’t avoid them forever.

Chewing my lip and twiddling my thumbs, I stared at the doo

~ A M E L I A ~School couldn’t have been over fast enough; I was too keen to get home. Everett and I had agreed that we were going to utilise today to research into finding my parents, even though the information I had was barely even research or useful to find out more. I had essentially nothing to go off of…My speedy pace became a sluggish trudge as I made my way through the forest towards the pathway to my cottage. Was I just… wasting my time? And now, wasting Everett’s time, too?‘Wow, don’t you look depressed,’ Everett hummed. My eyes, once staring at the dirt beneath me, shot up to meet Ev’s beautiful and piercing grey eyes, ‘You’re already here?’ Resting against the front door, arms crossed, and his foot pressed against the door, ‘You did say to meet after school, right?’ He glanced down at his watch.‘Yeah, I did,’ I said, hastening over to the front door, scrambling for my keys, ‘I just didn’t expect you to be here waiting for me,’ I bit down on my tongue as Everett’s sc

~ A M E L I A ~After our small moment of being distracted, we eventually got back into focusing on researching. Everett was reading through all the letters as well as E’s journal, trying to decipher something—anything—that we could utilise to help us. Not looking up from the book, he spoke softly, ‘Amelia?’ Sitting on the opposite end of the table, I looked up from my laptop, ‘Yeah?’ ‘All those families who left the pack, you said you never managed to reach any of them, right?’I nodded. ‘Hmm,’ he shut my birth father’s journal and stood up, ‘Something about that doesn’t seem right.’ ‘I thought so, too. Why do you say that?’ I asked as I scrolled through the article about the hospital fire, wincing at the sight of the fire—those poor babies. Those poor, innocent lives lost… why? Resting his palms against the table, he sighed, ‘It’s not common for werewolves to leave a pack, especially that many. I get it’s a…unique… circumstance, but even so, the Alpha would have had to permit

~ A M E L I A ~Part of me hoped and wished that the map E had left me was some secretly coded piece that he sent me to decode, with elements hidden within which would then reveal all the answers I was looking for. However, the more I searched and searched for a glimmer of a “code”, the more I realised that I was just throwing darts in the dark. I was becoming too hopeful, but in reality, there was nothing. It was just an old map for me to understand the layout of the Silver Moon pack, as well as to use it to find the pack. Skimming the notes I had made, trying to understand the scribbles of my birth father’s later entries in his journal, a sickening twinge in my stomach twisted and turned inside me. Almost as if he could sense my anxiety, Everett appeared behind me, placing a hand on my shoulder and looking over the other, ‘What’s wrong?’ His ethereal voice caressed my ears and calmed me to some degree. ‘This… It’s all too much to decipher,’ I sighed, looking up at him.‘Relax,’ h

~ A M E L I A ~Everyone kept glancing over at me. They all kept thinking that I hadn’t noticed because I hadn’t been looking up at them when they did, but I noticed. Every damn time, I noticed. What made it worse was that we were all seated in a booth at Sammy’s parents’ cafe, so we were all forced to face each other. I was just thankful that I was sitting on the edge of the booth; it made it easier for a brief escape, whether it was to hide away in the bathroom for a couple of minutes or buy another drink, which I didn’t even want, but I’d take it to have just a few extra seconds of not having my friends stare so intensely at me. Why did they have to make the staring so obvious? It was like clockwork or some weird pattern that they had all decided to synchronise on. Sammy and Theo would exchange a look after they’ve glanced over at me, Sammy would then nudge Kaylee, who would sneak a glance before looking down at her notebook, then she must have spoken to Gabriel through their me

~ A M E L I A ~Without giving them all a chance to stop me or even say goodbye, I made my way out the door and speedily made my way towards my home. My head and my heart hurt. I knew I had distanced myself from my friends a lot over the past couple of weeks, yet I didn’t realise how much it had bothered them. I was a fool to think I could distance myself from them…But what if they get caught in the crossfire of the chaos? I thought to myself. It was true. With The Luna having her invisible target on my back, if any of them got caught up in the mess I was in and if any of them got hurt, I’d never forgive myself. The best thing would be to stay away, but if I do that again, they will keep asking more questions. So, I’d have to stay close enough to them for them not to worry about me, but with enough distance to keep them from harm’s way. I won’t let anyone get hurt, I won’t—‘Amelia!’ Turning around, my eyes widened for a moment but then flickered to a soft gaze as I saw Hudson ru

~ A M E L I A ~Anxiety was a feeling I was becoming too well accustomed to. Everett was going to be furious, but I had no choice unless I wanted to explain to his brother why I suddenly couldn’t start coming to their home. My friends were already becoming too suspicious of my sudden behaviour, although Gabriel was the most subtle about it, even though he was acting all calm, cool and collected about the situation (such a classic Shaw son move), I could see how much he was concerned in his eyes. Tapping the back of my pen against my notepad, sitting on the floor of the Shaw Manor Library, leaning against one bookshelf whilst staring at another, I was in awe at the sight of how many books they had. It was a reader’s dream come true. I could only imagine how much Everett loved devouring every one of these books growing up, escaping reality to spend even just a brief moment in another world.‘He’s not home and won’t be for a while either,’ Gabriel said as he pulled a book out from the

Stuttering a gasp, I spoke hushed, ‘Everett…’His nose scrunched slightly as if he was holding back a snarl, ‘What are you doing here?’ He asked, jaw clenched, clearly agitated.Swallowing thickly, I stepped back a couple of steps, being stopped by Gabriel, who was right behind me. He placed a hand on my shoulder, and I glanced back to see him with a wrathful glare, darting towards Everett as his grip on me tightened. I winced at his sudden grip, trying not to show it as I spoke, ‘Uh… Gabriel and I were just studying and finishing off our assignment.’Everett’s jaw tightened as he noticed his brother’s expression, ‘Here, of all places?’ he said bluntly. ‘So what?’ Gabriel snapped back, ‘She’s allowed to study where she wants, and she’s welcome here. Right, Dad?’My stomach bubbled as the Alpha’s soul-sucking eyes met mine. Alpha Draven’s eyes narrowed, ‘Of course,’ he smiled slightly, ‘she’s always welcome in my home

~ A M E L I A ~‘What the hell were you thinking?’ Everett snarled at me. Feeling lost for words and utterly shocked by his anger, I mumbled, ‘Ev… I-I’m sorry, I—‘‘Do you get a thrill out of not listening to me?’ He yelled. Only wrath was plastered across his face. Pure and complete rage. He pressed harder against my chest, ‘Hm? Do you? Do you like seeing me annoyed at you?’ My breathing writhed under the pressure of his strength, ‘Everett… please,’ tears welled up in my eyes. Trying to hold them back, but the pain was too much, and the tears streamed down my cheeks. Gripping onto his arm and trying to pull him back, my fingers dug into him, but he didn’t even react, my affliction didn’t bother him, ‘Stop it, p-please.’Removing his forearm from my chest, Everett slammed his hand on the wall beside my head. My body was trembling; I was free from his grasp, but I couldn’t move; his glare had me locked in place. ‘Well,’ a growl rumbled deep within his chest, ‘do you have anything to

She’s too weak.’‘No,’ I cooed as I looked back at the small amount of wax that remained of the candle. Squeezing Amelia’s hand, I looked at her and hoped she could hear me in her state of unconsciousness, ‘Listen to me. You are not dying, do you hear me? It’s not your time. It’s not your—‘The room became eerily chilled as the candle flame was snuffed out. I refused to turn around to confirm, hearing Sybil’s saddened sigh was confirmation enough. ‘No… Amelia,’ I cupped a hand on her cheek, ‘wake up. Wake up!’‘Alpha-son, she’s gone.’ Sybil stood and lowered her head, staring at the ground. She also looked heartbroken by this loss. Stepping away from Amelia and towards Sybil, I snapped,

~ A M E L I A ~Panic surged through me. My father’s demise… it was at the hands of his best friend? The Moon Goddess brought us to the time of the battle. As she did, all the magic it took to travel through time was taking a huge toll on my spiritual body. I collapsed to the ground and whimpered, ‘What’s happening to me?’Kneeling beside me, the Moon Goddess helped me up, ‘You don’t have much time, we need to send you back very soon.’I groaned, feeling myself lose the connection and hold I had still back in the land of the living, I couldn’t feel warmth… I couldn’t feel anything. ‘How much longer do I have?’‘Enough time to see this last glimpse into the past.’Holding myself up with all my remaining strength, I watched as the events played out. My father and his best friend were standing head to head under the starry night sky. Many members of the pack, especially the council members, were bearing witness to the fight, awaiting to see who would triumph. ‘Are you sure you want to

How did Draven become Alpha?’The Moon Goddess had brought me back to her moonflower garden, her hand on my back rubbing back and forth soothing me, ‘My dear, you’ve witnessed a lot, are you sure you don’t want to take a break?’I shook my head, ‘I don’t have time for a break! You said yourself that I’ve got a limited amount of time left back in the human world, I can’t waste it.’She nodded, ‘I know, but I can sense your pain and suffering, and things only get darker from here…’Swallowing thickly, I stood tall, ‘Show me.’‘Very well.’~ ~ ~ Following the events of the hospital fire, the next day was sombre. It wasn’t just the families who were directly involved in the fire who were grieving, it was the entire pack. They were all traumatised and scared for what was to come. The funerals for the newborns were held all together, the Alpha and Luna ensured that they were all treated with equal respect and care during the entire process, as we

~ A M E L I A ~It began to rain. First a trickle, then a complete downpour. The Alpha and Luna looked out to the rain, a perfect resemblance of their sorrow, and knew that they had no more time to waste. They had to say their final goodbyes to their daughter and commence with their plan before people became aware. When they had finally said their goodbyes, Kali had come to terms that she would not be the one to venture out to take their daughter to the person they’d hope would be the one and only person they could entrust to take her outside of the pack and to her new human family. In her state of only recently giving birth, her werewolf healing was depleting her energy, plus her sudden disappearance from the fire would raise suspicions. They had to take their next steps carefully and mindfully.Enzo sent Kali back to the hospital, where she would have to act as though she had lost her baby in that fire, along with all the other mothers who lost their babies. What is going on?’ Kali spoke quietly, trying not to awaken their baby, who had finally fallen asleep soundly, but concern was laced throughout her voice.Yet he didn’t stop pacing, deep in his thoughts, ‘It can’t be them… They wouldn’t… They couldn’t betray us like that!’‘Who?’He shook his head, ’No, no, no!’ He slammed his fist against the wall, shaking the entire room, ‘These bastards,’ he muttered through gritted teeth before sitting next to his mate and wrapping his arms around her, embracing the love of his life and their newborn daughter.‘My love, my Alpha,’ Kali continued to cry silently, ‘Please. Talk to me.’Enzo looked at his mate, holding her face softly as he wiped away her tears with his thumb, ‘My radiant Luna…’ he

~ A M E L I A ~Devastated was an understatement for how I felt, but I was not surprised at all. Those men had been stuck in traditions for so long they were blind to the facts that were right in front of them. That women wanted to show their strength and power, to prove that they are equally as powerful as they are. Yet these men just have to prove themselves to be the best. The Moon Goddess took me later in the day. The sun was slowly going down, dimming the light sky and introducing us to the upcoming night. We walked down the long hallways of the hospital, and the sterile aroma of my surroundings was hard to ignore. We finally made it to the private room that was dedicated to my birth mother, Kali. She was in her hospital bed, sitting up while holding her baby girl, me. With one finger, she bounced my small hand up and down until I clasped my tiny fist around her finger. ‘I can already sense that you’re a strong one, aren’t you, little wolf?’ Kali smiled. Even after giving bir

~ A M E L I A ~My expression faded. That was not going to be easy to get used to, but I nodded and followed her towards my birth parents’ manor. ‘Most of the pack is slumbering away, nursing their hangovers or resting in whichever ways they seem fit,’ the Moon Goddess informed me as we walked through the manor grounds and phased through the door to enter the home. ‘However, Alpha Enzo knew the importance of caring for the pack, and always prioritised his duties before anything else. So, as his mate rested in the hospital and was learning to nurse you, he was back to his duties. They were still recovering from a recent conflict they encountered with another enemy pack. I believe you’re already aware of some people of the Shadow pack?’I nodded as we phased through another set of doors. Inside the room was a grand table. Sitting around it were men, mostly middle-aged but some older and some younger, but a handful of them I recognised from the present day in the Silver Moon pack. It wa

~ A M E L I A ~A wave of dizziness hit me as I reopened my eyes and took in my surroundings. The Moon Goddess and I were no longer in her garden of moon flowers, but deep within a forest. It was so familiar, yet different all at once. In the distance was a gentle glow emitting from lanterns.‘Where are we?’ I asked. The Moon Goddess linked her arm with mine, holding me close to her, ‘We’re in the village of the Silver Moon pack…’ she began walking me towards the lights, where noise and music began to tickle my ears, ‘…18 years ago.’I froze in place and looked at her, ‘Before I was born?’She nodded, ‘In fact, the day I brought you back to is your birthday.’Drawing my gaze back towards where the noise grew, it sounded like there was a huge celebration going on. This was it, this was finally the time I was going to learn everything. I was going to learn the truth and finally be able to understand who I am. But, for some reason, I could not move.‘Are you sure you want to do this?’ T

~ A M E L I A ~It was so cold and dark…Where am I? What is going on?My eyes slowly peeled open, feeling the weight of my drowsiness, meeting the night sky above me. There was not a star to be seen, which was unusual for the Silver Moon pack. No matter where you are, you’d always be able to see stars at night. It was one of my favourite things about the pack. Scanning my surroundings briefly without moving my head, there were trees all around me. How did I end up in the forest? Where was I last? Pushing myself to sit up slowly, my head felt heavy as I tried to recall what happened. Everett had told me to come see him… The Alpha ambushed me… pain… so much pain…My lip quivered as I examined and patted down my entire body, but there wasn’t a cut to be seen.Am I dreaming? What the hell is going on?A rustle behind me caught my attention. Twirling onto all fours and pushing myself to stand, I felt too alert and concerned for what was out there. ‘Who’s there?’ I said sharply. No re
