“As much as I’d like to play hero and save my children from the hands of the threats, I can’t do it,” she sighed. “Those children could be killed if we piss the person off.”

“We’ll need to be discreet about this.”

“We can’t,” she halted in her footsteps letting go of me. “What if we try that and it doesn’t work. Imagine going up sharing a faceless enemy who could be anyone. That person could be one of the elders or even my coworker or someone that is close to us.

“We cannot risk doing that and putting the lives of the children in danger because we want to act like the new gods of justice.”

She was right. She was scared for their safety and she had every right to be.

Only a fool would go ahead and do what I had suggested.

“I’m sorry,” I said, taking her up into my arms to hug. “I should have been more rational instead of thinking through my arse.”

We stayed in each other's embrace for a short time before breaking apart and heading for the hospital.
