"Come on, Sprucepaw, keep up!" Wildheart's yowl only made Sprucepaw roll her eyes. She had been running for most of the morning to practice for when she would go hunting. Now Wildheart wanted her to go on another run for battle training. These afternoon runs were a good way to warm up though, especially on a cold leafbare day like today. Soon it would be newleaf. She had overheard the elders commenting that the first signs were already there. Robins were singing more vibrantly, the trees were starting show early signs of life. Sprucepaw couldn't wait for the day it started getting warm out, and she could see the flowers blooming on the fields. "Sprucepaw, watch where you're going!"

She hadn't even noticed that she ran so far into the territory until her paws touched icy cold water. With a yelp, Sprucepaw jumped back and blinked in surprise. She found herself on the border between WindClan and ThunderClan. A clearing with a stream was what marked the border, and she could already scent

Reedpaw winced at the pain in his shoulders as Scarletpaw applied a poultice to his latest injuries. A thin cut on his shoulder was the telltale sign that he had gotten himself in another scrap with Willowpaw. Days like today made him wish he could shut her up and keep it that way. All she ever did was mock and ridicule him. She along with his three sisters acted as if he was nothing, like he never belonged in RiverClan."You've got to start standing up for yourself," Scarletpaw muttered crossly. "Why do you let them get to you?""I don't," he grumbled, picturing Willowpaw's smug face as Hollypaw held him down while Larchpaw jumped in. He hardly had enough time to react when they pinned him down. "They're bullies and don't deserve to become warriors."Scarletpaw just shook her head in annoyance before returning to her den. Once she was gone, Reedpaw's shoulders sagged in exhaustion. If his mentor wasn't so busy formulating patrols with the deputy, this wouldn't have happened. Reedpaw

Images of that pale brown she-cat still burned in his mind the next few days. She had seemed so young and vulnerable. Yet she was brave enough to encounter the border and cross Petalstar. Most outsiders wouldn't be smart enough or brave enough to live and tell the tale. Flamepaw couldn't help but feel a little envious. Maybe if he had enough smarts he could stand up to whatever cat was bigger or stronger than him.Flamepaw let out a sigh as he watched Lilypaw and Shrewpaw practice their fighting moves. He himself had been practicing for most of the afternoon. Now he was exhausted and wanted to rest, but seeing his siblings spurred on that competitive edge."Stormshadow said that we'll have our warrior assessments sometime soon," Lilypaw meowed once she had pinned her brother again. Flamepaw watched the pair in amusement. Lilypaw was always trying to outsmart her brother, who was definitely on the smaller side of his sister. Flamepaw himself was the biggest of all the three siblings."

Where's mother? Where's Dusk and Luna?Panic flashed through Smoke as she realized her mother hadn't returned for her.She wasn't expecting to wake up alone. When she had, she found herself back in that same den she had woken up in a few days ago. Back when that strange cat was telling her off. Smoke was still fuming over the fact that he didn't think she was worth much. He'd called her a worthless waste of herbs, and worse names. To make matters even worse, the wounds she had received earlier weren't recovering like she was hoping.Smoke had never felt more alone than now. She longed to feel the warmth of her mother's tongue as she washed her kits. She longed to hear the voices of Luna and Dusk as they argued. Being stuck in this den was boring."Would you quit squirming?" grunted the black she-cat from earlier. "I can't get these cobwebs removed if you keep that up." Smoke only narrowed her eyes once the she-cat let out a sigh of satisfaction before backing away. "You're wounds aren

The pale moon illuminated a dark and ominous forest. A slender pale brown she-cat crept through the undergrowth. Her eyes were locked on a single target that stood just a few tail-lengths ahead of her. Another cat. A golden tom with ginger flecks covering his pelt. The apprentice-aged she-cat stopped for a moment and stared at the cat for a few heartbeats."Who are you?" was all she could ask. He looked familiar. She couldn't quite place why that was, or what she was doing here in the first place. This forest was unfamiliar to her."My name is Leopardheart," the tom replied. Sprucepaw's eyes widened at the familiar name. Leopardheart... that was the name of her father! Her mind was reeling with this new information as Sprucepaw stared at him for what felt like an eternity. "It is good to finally meet you, my little apprentice," he added in a purr."W-Why are you here?" she asked fearfully, realizing there had to be some reason behind his sudden appearance. She was all too aware of wha

"Okay, now let's see how much your fishing skills have paid off," Minnowstar meowed after they had stopped by a creek.Reedpaw studied the creek carefully. Today was to be his final assessment. By the end of today, he would finally become a warrior. But that was only if he could actually pass the final test Minnowstar had in mind.On top of it, Reedpaw had finally stood up against his sisters. Willowpaw, Hollypaw and Larchpaw were more than surprised when he had finally stood up to them. Willowpaw especially had felt his wrath and now knew what it was like to be on the receiving end.Redkit, Dawnkit and Firekit had also become apprentices over the last couple of days. Ashfang was now Redpaw's mentor, Eagleclaw was Firepaw's mentor, and last but certainly not least, Dawnpaw was Pebblepelt's apprentice. The Clan was thriving now as Foampelt had moved into the nursery, expecting Mintwhisker's kits. Now, Reedpaw was busy crouching over the creek to make sure his shadow wasn't showing. One

Every pawstep for Birdpaw was difficult to make as she climbed further away from where she thought her family might be. Ebonypaw, Brightpaw, Wrenpaw and Driftpaw trailed ahead as if they had done this a dozen times already. They were used to not having their mothers with them all the time. This was all new to Birdpaw, and she was terrified. They were following a rocky slope that only seemed to get steeper the further they went. Birdpaw was struggling to keep up as the wind threatened to blow her away."Come on, keep moving!" Ebonypaw yowled over the howling wind. Birdpaw was ready to make a retort when she heard something in the distance. Her ears pricked forward in alarm as she saw what looked like the shape of a small bird soaring above them."Shouldn't we find shelter?" she asked, realizing too late that the bird in question was much bigger than she realized."From a stupid bird?" Brightpaw scoffed. "Please, I'd love to see some bird try and-"Brightpaw's accusation was cut off as

He felt a sense of pride surge through him as he returned to camp with a bundle of prey in his jaws. Earlier this morning, Hawktalon had sent him out hunting to find prey along with Feathermist and Shademask. Even Shademask, who was normally grumpy and annoyed with just about everything, was impressed with his catch. Feathermist had returned with a large squirrel while Shademask brought back a blackbird.Flamestrike couldn't remember a better time for being a warrior. Greenleaf was in full swing. Prey was plentiful, and the Clans were at peace as far as he knew. With a sigh of satisfaction, Flamestrike dropped his catch on the fresh-kill pile and started washing himself. Thorns snared on his pelt from when he'd chased a mouse into a bush. At least he was able to catch it with ease."You've done well," Oakfire purred as he and Roseclaw approached Flamestrike. He noticed with a start that Lilypool and Shrewfang were sharing tongues as well instead of tussling like they usually did. "I

The information she was spitting out was almost too much for Flamestrike. He couldn't imagine what this cat was going through right now. It didn't seem real. Yet something told him this was more than just a vision sent by StarClan."And what do you expect me to do?" he asked carefully. "It isn't like I could just abandon my Clanmates and rescue you." The she-cat only narrowed her eyes at that and lashed her tail irritably."I'm not expecting anyone to help me," she snapped in a voice so cold it sent shivers through Flamestrike. "What I went is help towards my Clan. They were taken hostage by the Tribe, and I doubt the Tribe will let them go anytime soon."Flamestrike nodded in understanding. He knew that if it were him in this position, he would seek out whatever help he could find. This cat was clearly in need of help, no matter how much he wanted to deny it."I'll see what I can do," he promised after giving it some thought. The she-cat let out a sigh of relief at that. They were still at odds over how to handle that particular situation. He knew something needed to be done to preserve SkyClan. They deserved that much after everything they had been through. He saw a light flicker across Birdflight's eyes, signaling that she had been thinking the same thing. Since she was directly involved with the prophecy, her concern made sense.I'm supposed to be Thunder, which means that I have to worry about my Clan as well, he reminded himself. He wouldn't let that stop him from worrying about the other Clans though, especially with cats like Icestar and Russetstar in charge. There was so much they had to learn about their past lives. Between that and everything else, he didn't know what was more overwhelming."We still haven't figured out who Shadow's descendant is," Spruceleaf meowed. Flamestrike agreed with her fullheartedly. There was so little communication with ShadowClan these days. He suspected Russetstar's alliance with Icestar had something to do with

Unease rippled through the Clan when the Gathering ended. For the first time since this venture started, Flamestrike suddenly felt overwhelmed with a sense of foreboding. He knew going into this that the other Clans would refuse to accept SkyClan as a fifth Clan. Life around the lake was already difficult enough without another Clan adding to the challenges. With leafbare in full swing none of the Clans would accept the fact that they had even more competition. Now ThunderClan was left to pick up the pieces and decide what to do with the newcomers. They couldn't stay on the farm forever. Too many cats would drawl unwanted attention from curious Twolegs or dogs. Flamestrike was well aware of the fact that the farm was abandoned, but that didn't mean it wasn't too close to Twolegplace. He couldn't shake off the feeling that SkyClan was in danger regardless of where they stayed. Will they ever felt welcome anywhere? he wondered.Guilt stabbed him in the chest at the thought. Birdpaw ducked her head in embarrassment. She wasn't sure how that worked. Spruceleaf mentioned that her own scent would have washed away by the time they met. Her uncle and his mate didn't smell anything like a Clan cat; they spent too much time rolling around in the hay for her to recognize WindClan's scent. She simply recognized it from somewhere, though she couldn't explain how."To be fair I was at the Gathering the other night," she tried defending herself. They would have also picked up WindClan's scent if that's the case, a voice argued with. You will have to come up with a better excuse if you want them to believe you.Thankfully they didn't dwell on the topic. Birdpaw glanced over her shoulder nervously when she picked up their scent again in the wind. She remembered what Spruceleaf said about how hostile WindClan had been lately, especially to those outside the Clans. While SkyClan was technically still a Clan, that didn't mean the other Clans believed them. Her tail lashed

Birdpaw watched the scene with growing unease as cats began arguing amongst themselves. She was horrified when one cat suggested slitting Emberstar's throat. She knew other cats would object with the idea of letting SkyClan stay at the lake. What she hadn't anticipated was the protests that would follow. Or the fact that several others didn't believe Emberstar's story. What's going to happen if they reject us? she wondered.Flamestrike stood close beside her, tail wrapping around her almost protectively. Birdpaw glanced at him warily, suddenly aware of how much danger she and her Clanmates were in. The only consolation they had was the fact that the Gathering was a peaceful setting. If the Clans started fighting, StarClan would surely disapprove."This Gathering is over!" Russetstar declared before Emberstar could continue defending himself. The rest of the Clans looked more than happy with that decision. Her heart sank at the thought of what would happen if the other Clans rejected t

Smokefrost watched through narrowed eyes as the WindClan cats picked up the remaining prey from the fresh-kill pile. The other ShadowClan warriors gathered around the clearing were equally uneasy allowing enemy warriors in their camp. What made it worse was the fact that they were allowing these cats to take fresh-kill needed for the rest of the Clan.Russetstar claimed it was necessary for the alliance he formed with Icestar. Though Smokefrost suspected this was Icestar's doing. Unease crawled through her at the thought of letting them get away with such atrocities. With leafbare now in full-swing, the last thing the Clan could afford was losing fresh-kill. Another blanket of snow covered the forest, making hunting more difficult than it already was. Most of the prey was hiding in their burrows or nests, and Smokefrost couldn't blame them for wanting to avoid the cold."I still don't get why this is necessary," Talonclaw muttered under his breath. "I understand the alliance between W

The sounds of waves lapping against the shore were oddly soothing as Reedriver trotted along the bank. Above him lay a blanket of stars and a clawmark of a moon. In spite of the faint light the moon provided, it was clearly cold. A shiver swept through him as the chills of leafbare became prominent. He knew it was inevitable. The first snow had already fallen just a couple of days ago since he returned. Since that fateful day he tried putting the past behind him. Cats questioned where he went and why he was gone for so long. Minnowstar herself had been furious that he disappeared when the Clan needed him the most.He couldn't explain to them what happened even if he wanted to. He knew they wouldn't understand what he and the others had been through during their journey. It all sounded fishbrained in the first place. He had a hard enough time believing himself; he doubted his Clanmates would believe him even if he told him that this journey was a waste of his time.Time I could have sp

"I'm beginning to think that Icestar wants the Clan to suffer through the rest of leafbare," Furzewhisker growled through clenched teeth. She carefully nudged a pile of dried leaves into the corner of her den, hoping that the supply would last her throughout the rest of leafbare. She knew it wasn't much. Borage was good for the queens who were heavily pregnant. With Leafshine getting closer and closer to kitting, she realized that the tortoiseshell queen would need the herbs sooner rather than later. And with so many other queens expecting, she was running low on the herb."I don't get why he's making it a rule for every she-cat in the Clan to be pregnant," Redstripe complained while watching her sort through the pile of leaves. The medicine cat glanced at the dark ginger elder. Redstripe had been suffering with whitecough over the last couple of days. The moment she found out he had whitecough was when she confined him to her den until he recovered. Ravenflight looked at the fresh cobwebs covering Smokefrost's face with a wrinkled nose. The medicine cat had been treating her injuries since she returned to camp that evening with Russetstar. No one had questioned where the injuries came from. No one seemed to care one way or another what happened to her. Not that she didn't mind. Smokefrost had learned over time that she wasn't worth looking after once the situation wasn't life-threatening."I still don't get how you were able to scratch your face the way you did running through a thorn bush," Ravenflight scoffed after applying a fresh poultice of herbs on her wounds. She was careful to avoid her eyes. Smokefrost had been afraid that her eye would be permanently scarred, but she was relieved when she managed to open it one morning. She had been able to see through both eyes, improving her hunting skills once more. "It seems as if this is happening more than it should be."Though there wasn't an accusation in her tone, Smokefrost co

For the first time since they started the journey to find SkyClan, relief swept through Flamestrike. It had been nearly two moons since they started their journey, and he realized with a start how happy he was to be back. The familiar scent of the forest wafted around him, and the moment they were back on ThunderClan territory was when it felt as if a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. He picked up familiar scents here and there after tasting the air, including those of his mother and his siblings. His thoughts churned with anxiety as he wondered how the Clan had been since they left. When Spruceleaf had explained how Icestar had risen to power and was determined to spread that power across the lake, it sent a ripple of alarm through him. He knew that the Clans had always been balanced in some way or form. Sure, there were times when battle-hungry cats would get out of line. But they were usually taken care of before they could reach the point Icestar had.Maybe that's why w
