I can’t believe I’m actually learning to fight. I made a simple comment to Wyatt that I wish I could be more like him and bam. Ford and Mason are teaching me to fight. I think I could have handled just one teacher, but with both of them, it is like an intense lesson. When one has to leave to take care of something, the other one comes in and continues with my training.
Usually, Mason is my primary teacher since he is the lead warrior and is the one leading all the training sessions while Ford is Wyatt’s Beta. Between the two, they have taught me in an extremely intense training session every day. I don’t even get Saturday or Sunday off.
However, if this is going to get me to the level that Wyatt is at, then I’ll gladly work all these hours and more.
Well, I have little else to do, so I might as well train.
If I was back at my old pack, I would be getting ready to go back to college. However, I don’t really miss that either, because my parents forced me to study business when I really wanted to go through the medical program. Ever since I was little, I had always loved watching the doctors in the pack hospital. I don’t know if me being an omega had anything to do with it, but the idea of helping people and trying to heal them is what I really want to do.
However, I have already given up on that idea. My plan of disappearing means I can’t be found anywhere and if I go back to college, I would definitely be found. No. I would rather not go back to college if it means I can continue to stay here.
Granted, I haven’t been here long, but Wyatt has made me feel welcomed, which means the whole pack has welcomed me. Now, I’m not saying I didn’t feel welcomed at my old pack, but I wasn’t liked by quite a few. For some reason, me being the Beta’s daughter, even though my older brother is the next beta, meant that some people just couldn’t stand to be around me. I still haven’t figured out why, but at this point, I really don’t care.
Mason yells across the training field at me, “Hey, Katelyn! Don’t be slacking! Ford will be here soon to continue your training!”
I smile and yell back, “I’m just getting some water! I wasn’t slacking!”
I shake my head and grab the bottle of water sitting next to my things on the bench. As I unscrew the cap, I glance around the training field. I’m still amazed that everyone is taught how to fight, even the omegas. Wyatt keeps telling me it is the responsibility of everyone to learn to defend themselves and the pack. If they are the last ones left to protect the pack and the children, then they have to know how to stop an attacker.
I had never thought about it before, but he is right. In my old pack, I’m always told that omegas can’t fight. They are too weak, but here they are considered equals with the rest. That doesn’t just mean fighting, but with everything. Everyone takes turns cleaning and cooking, except for the ones that just want to do one job. No one is forced to do something because of their status. Shoot. Even Wyatt helps cook and clean.
I’m suddenly startled out of my thoughts as Ford’s deep voice asks, “Is there something bothering you, Katelyn?”
I glance to my side and look at Ford as I shake my head. “No. I’m just thinking about how different my old pack is with yours.” I take a drink of water before I scan the training field again.
Ford turns and looks out at everyone too. “Well, there aren’t too many packs that think like we do, but we are also a secret pack. We have gone to great lengths to keep us hidden, which means we aren’t like all the other packs.”
Ford leans a little closer to me and softly adds, “And we like it like that.”
A small smile spreads across my face as I take another drink of water. I still haven’t asked why they keep their pack hidden, but maybe when I decide to become part of their pack, I will ask.
I put the cap back on the water bottle and set it down on the bench. “Are you here to continue my training or to talk about my old pack?”
Ford chuckles. “Well, I’m sure your old pack is interesting, but you still have a lot to learn in order for you to catch up with the others on your fighting skills. So, let’s get back to training.”
I nod and head back out to the edge of the field where I usually do my training.

“Don’t forget to protect your side.”
Well, I don’t think I’ll soon forget. Dang. He can really throw a punch. The sad thing is that it probably isn’t at his full strength. Regardless, it still hurts.
I get up off the ground as I’m breathing heavy. “I’ll remember. Don’t worry.”
Ford pats my shoulder. “You are improving, and fast. I’m sure that it won’t take long before you are just as good as other people your age.”
I put my hand on my side as it continues to throb in pain, and I shake my head. “I don’t want to be as good as others my age. I want to be as good as Wyatt. If he can do it, so can I.”
Ford smiles and nods his head. “I’m sure that you can.”
Mason walks up to us and chimes, “Katelyn, you are getting better. Keep going and you will get there soon. Oh, by the way, I’m going to have you fight another pack member tomorrow.
I’ve kept you from participating so far, but I think it is about time you start to fight the others.
Don’t worry. I won’t have you fight the older pack members first. Instead, you will start off with the younger ones, who are at about your skill level.”
What? I thought I would have more time before I would actually have to fight the other pack members.
Ford steps closer to me and gently pats my arm. “Don’t worry. You can do it.”
Mason quickly adds, “I wouldn’t have you participate if I didn’t think you were ready. Plus, we must get you to work up the ladder to the better fighters. That is the only way you will learn how to handle yourself in an actual fight.”
Well, I guess. However, I still wish that I had more time for training.
I slowly look between Mason and Ford. “I guess.”
Ford smiles and once again pats my arm. “Oh, I almost forgot. Wyatt wants to see you in his office as soon as you are done with your training today.”
I nod my head.
I wonder what he wants.
***
Exhausted, I grab my things, but I don’t have time to go take a shower yet. I have to go to Wyatt’s office first and then I can relax in a nice warm bath later.
Oh, my muscles really need it.
I don’t even look over my shoulder as I lift my hand and wave. “Thanks, Mason, for another hard day of training. I’m off to meet Wyatt. Bye.”
He chuckles. “Don’t worry. I’m sure that it isn’t anything serious.”
How does he know that I’m worried about it? I swear, just when I think I’ve figured something out about this pack, I’m left gaping and wondering if I’ll ever figure anything out. Well, Wyatt did say I’ll learn the pack’s secrets, or at least some of them, when I become part of the pack. However, until that happens, I’m left confused and lost.
I sling my bag over my shoulder and head off towards the alpha’s office. The sooner I get there, then the faster I can figure out what he needs.
As I walk past the various houses and building, I suddenly think about Bridget. I usually try not to think about her too much, because it makes me sad. I miss her so much.
For some strange reason, I can sense that she is heading towards me. I don’t know why I’m getting that impression, but I am.
Dang. I must miss her a lot. It has always been Bridget who could find me with no effort. When I would ask how she can do it, she would always tell me she could just sense my presence and knew where I was. However, now, I’m the one getting the feeling that she is coming to me.
I shake my head. This pack is making me crazy. Well, that isn’t all bad.
I push the notion of my best friend out of my mind as I continue on my way towards Wyatt’s office.
Within minutes, I’m at his office. My mind is still trying to figure out what he wants as I knock on his office door.
Knock. Knock.
He calls out, “Come in.”
I open the door and walk in. “Did you need to see me?”
He looks up from his computer monitor and smiles. He waves me to sit down in a chair in front of his desk. “Yes. I wanted to talk to you about your college. I already know where you were going to school at, but I have never asked you what you were studying.”
I step forward and take a seat as I tilt my head. Why does he want to know about my college? Now that I left my previous pack, I already know I wouldn’t be going back. I was one of only a handful of people that were allowed to go. I’m sure my father’s status had something to do with it, but I don’t have that here.
Here, I’m a nobody and I already know I wouldn’t be able to finish my education. I really didn’t like what I have been studying, but that doesn’t matter now.
Instead of answering his question, I ask, “Why do you want to know?”
His smile falters a bit as a line slowly forms across his forehead. “Am I not allowed to ask what you were studying? Is it some kind of secret?”
I slowly shake my head. “No. It isn’t a secret. I just want to know why you are asking. I have already accepted the fact that I won’t be going back to college, so it doesn’t really matter, anyway.”
His smile widens again as he playfully teases, “Who says that you aren’t going back?”
I don’t understand.
A frown slides across my face. “Well, isn’t it obvious? I ran away from home, so there isn’t anyone to pay for my tuition. Plus, I don’t want my family to know where I’m at and to try and force me to go back home. So, I can’t just call up my school and ask them to forward my records to another university. If my father talks to my old university, he will know right away where I’m at.”
I stare at the alpha as his playful smile continues to dance around on his face. For once, since I’ve gotten here, I can’t understand what he is even thinking. Usually, he and I are pretty close in how we think, but not this time. I have no idea what is going on in his head.
A gleam in his eyes suddenly sparkles as he leans forward and rests his arms on his desk. “What would you say if I said you could be enrolled in our university here with no problems? Granted, our university has both werewolves and humans together, but the only werewolves admitted there are wolves from my pack. We are the only ones that can hide our scent, so if we have other werewolves come to campus, they will think the university is full of only humans.”
Is he for real? There is no way he can do that. Is there?
There is no way they can really do that. Right?
He doesn’t even know my real name.
Wyatt chuckles. “As alpha of the pack and the owner of the university, I can do that, and I have done it in the past. As for your real name, I already know it too. I have just chosen not to let you know. There are a lot of things I know about you…” He pauses for a second and looks at me as a smirk playfully dances across his face.
Hey, there is no way he knows what my name is. I don’t talk in my sleep, and I know I have said nothing to anyone. Brenda is the only name that I’ve used. I’m sure of it.
Wyatt softly chuckles again. “Brenda is the only name you have used since you have been here, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know what you real name is. Katelyn.”
My mouth immediately falls open. How did he do that?
Oh, Brenda, she is too cute when she is thinking really hard. I should say Katelyn instead. I know she gave us a fake name when she first got here. We have given her so many hints to try and slowly let her know that we have special abilities. As the alpha of the pack, even though my gender is beta, I can see people’s abilities. My father, who was the former alpha, has the ability too. We have passed it from each generation to the next one. Other members of the pack have special abilities too. However, everyone in our pack has the ability to see into other people’s minds and see their thoughts. We still don’t understand how we have formed this ability, but it is also one reason that we have secretly hidden ourselves for many generations. According to our elders, other packs learned of our abilities and began to try to use them for their benefit. However, it didn’t take long for us to run in orde
I still can’t understand what has happened. How can someone who has never met me before know who I am?As I sit on the bus, I can’t seem to take my eyes off the bus driver. My mind keeps trying to figure it out. However, the only thing that I can think of is that Katelyn somehow knew I may come to her, and she showed them a picture of me. Nothing else explains what is happening.I finally tear my eyes away from Gus and look out the window. My mind is still trying to grasp the events for today, but what I keep jumping to is the fact that I will see my best friend in a few hours. Just the thought of finally getting to see her has me smiling. I also can’t stop trying to think of all the things I want to tell her. There is one thing that I’m positive that I won’t say to her. No matter what, I’m not going to tell her anything about Mike and that witch. Oops, I mean B
I still can’t believe everything that has happened today.First, I get to go back to school and get to study what I want to study. Never in a million years would I have thought that something like this would happen to me. Then Wyatt tells me all about the pack and of the secrets associated with the pack.I’m still shocked. He has also told me that Bridget has abilities, which is why she can sense where I’m at. If the elders work with her, Wyatt is sure that she will be able to sense and locate anyone when she really wants to find them. But one of the most shocking things he has told me is that most of the pack can read people’s minds. That blows my mind away, but then it suddenly clicks why Wyatt always knows what I’m thinking. I don’t have to even say it because if he wants to, he can just read my mind. He promises they try to keep it to a minimum, but they have to d
Wyatt leads us to the head table. The pack has set up another spot for Bridget at his head table. Only Beta Ford and Lead Warrior Mason have been sitting at the table up to now. If they have mates, then their mates would have been able to sit next to them too. Then, of course, Wyatt’s mate has a seat at the table right next to him, but since his mate’s death, the seat has been vacant. However, that is the seat I’ve been using since I’ve gotten here. The Alpha rearranges the seats a little, so my friend is sitting next to me while Mason and Ford are on the other side of Wyatt. As we sit down, my mind finally begins to work again. I look around the dining hall, but I don’t see Mason or Ford. We have been able to introduce Bridget to Mason when we were in the backyard earlier. He was just finishing up a training session, which I fortunately was able to get out of it toda
I don’t even know where I am, but my wolf is jumping around in delight and is howling. I continue to let Ford pull me through the halls of the pack house before he rushes into a room and pulls me in with him. He slams the door shut and before I can say anything else, he captures my lips in a searing hot kiss.I have never kissed anyone before, but at this moment, I don’t care if I don’t know how it is to be done. I just want to have his lips wrapped around me. I don’t care if it is my lips, my neck or anywhere else on my body. I need those lips to be in contact with me.My wolf howls in excitement as a burning fire ignites deep inside of me. My mind keeps chanting the same thing over and over. Claim him. He is mine. With the speed of lightning, Ford suddenly has our clothes off and scattered around the room. I still don’t know how that has happened, but I’m not
I head out of the pack house towards the training grounds. However, my mind can’t stop wondering if Bridget is all right. I know Wyatt said that Ford will try to be gentle, but he couldn’t guarantee anything. He explained that when Ford’s wolf takes over that he will become more of an animal than a human. The only bright side is that we are werewolves, and we heal fast.A part of me also feels like an idiot. I never thought that there was so much to know about finding and claiming your mate. In my wild fantasy world, mates would practically run to each other and happily embrace each other. Then the male would whisk the female off her feet before heading to the bedroom, where they make love and claim each other.I don’t know that the wolf takes over at some point and the mates become two wild beasts, trying to devour each other. I don’t even know if Bridget knows any of this.
I know it has only been a year since I’ve lost Paulette, but for the first time since I’ve lost her, I enjoy looking at someone again. It differs completely from her, though. When I met her, I immediately could feel the pull, but with Katelyn, I have slowly found myself excited to see her and to spend time with her in our little area of the house. Granted, I’m not looking for someone else, but I think I’ve found someone. However, I don’t want to force her if she doesn’t feel the same way. Plus, she is still heartbroken over that idiot mate of hers claiming someone else. I still can’t believe Mike has allowed his father and the fake woman to convince him that the fake is his mate. I’m sure Katelyn is right that it is all for the alliance with the neighboring pack. Well, the Moon Goddess will teach them a lesson sooner or later. I take a moment to savor the view of her in only a towel. Hmmm… The training
I’m still in shock. Wyatt has never come into my bedroom before. Why did he come in and sit on my bed today? Not only that, why was he standing in the bathroom watching me? What is going on? Now, I definitely need to find out if there is a way to block people from reading my mind. I don’t need the entire pack knowing what I’m thinking, especially Wyatt. My thoughts are interrupted by Bridget’s tired voice echoing in my head. “Are you coming, Katelyn? We don’t have too much time before my heat kicks in again.” I glance over to my side at Wyatt as we continue to walk down the hallway in silence before I reply through the mind link, “We are coming. Don’t worry. Wait. You’re in heat? Don’t you get that later, after you have mated?” Her soft chuckle fills my head. “No, silly. Your first heat is triggered when you meet your mate, and you claim each other. That is
Katelyn POV I walk across my bedroom to the crib. Even though the baby is crying, and you can’t hear anything except him, I smile as I stop at the edge. Our first born and the next alpha to the Sun Moon pack. My pride and joy. I lean over the edge of the crib and softly coo, “Are you mad, Max? You can’t be hungry. You just had your milk.” I gently pick him up from the crib and begin to sway back and forth, while cradling my son in my arms. “Hush, baby. You need to rest. You have to grow up to be big and strong.” However, Max continues to cry. Knock. Knock. Still swaying back and forth, I glance up at the door. “Come in.” The door opens and Fiona pokes her head into the bedroom. “Uhm, you can’t get him to calm down again?” I slowly shake my head. She steps into the bedroom. “Do you want me to help?
I breathe a sigh of relief at seeing Alpha Marcus lying motionless on the ground. However, it is short-lived as I turn and scan the battlefield. My heart aches seeing all the injured and dead werewolves. This didn’t need to get to this point.A faint smile suddenly spreads across my face as my eyes stop at Sammy and Katelyn. Sammy is getting up off the ground and is completely healed. As she stands, she changes from her light tan wolf to Alpha Marcus’ gray wolf.Well, at least she is feeling well enough to use her abilities. That is a good sign.My mate is amazing. My smile slowly fades as my eyes spot Mike, who is staring at Katelyn and Sammy. What is Mike doing? He knows he can never have Katelyn again. Right. My thoughts are interrupted when the Supreme Elder calmly walks out of the trees, along with a few of the other elders, and scans around the open fiel
Mike POVI slowly open my eyes. The bright sun instantly makes me squint and close them again.I’m alive.I thought I was dead.I’m sure that I was being ripped to pieces.I lift my arm to block the bright sun from my eyes as I slowly open them back up. Wait. I thought I was in my wolf form. My wolf!I mentally ask, “Are you still here with me?”My wolf slowly mumbles, “Yeah, but I need to rest.”Oh, that is a relief.I move to sit up, but pain instantly shoots through my entire body. I quickly look down at my body, trying to see how bad the damage is, but I don’t see any. Wait. Where are my injuries?I quickly touch my legs and turn them slightly, but nothing. There isn’t one injury there. My eyes quickly go to my stomach and my chest, as my hands randomly pat that a
I watch from the side of the clearing as Mike goes limp on the battleground. NO!!!I try to run towards him, but Ford’s wolf quickly bites my ear and stops me. Through the mind link, he barks, “Bridget, baby, follow the plan. We know that this could be a possibility if Mike came here, but we can’t stop now. We have to take down Alpha Marcus.”I glance back at Mike, but he is gone. The only wolf laying lifeless on the ground now is Caleb.I slowly nod my head.Through the mind link, I announce, “It is time! Sammy, be careful. Everyone, get into position. Tammy and Fiona, you need to make sure that you focus and only use your powers against Alpha Marcus.”I glance around the battlefield. Again, through my mind link, I make an announcement to all the werewolves, except Alpha Marcus. “The future beta Caleb is dead, along with many others who supp
I bolt through the trees, over the boulders, and around the bushes. I move my feet as fast as I can. With each step, my heart pounds harder as the sound of battle hits my ears. The growls of victory along with the howls of pain stab my heart. This shouldn’t be happening, and it is all because of my father. His sick need to be the most powerful and have everyone bow down to him is too much. It must stop.No wonder my mother isn’t anywhere to be found. I’m sure that she couldn’t handle him either. With that thought running through my mind, I jump into the clearing. The sight that meets me is not something that I have ever wanted to see. Werewolves are everywhere and fighting to the death. The stench of blood and death is in the air.Nearby, several wolves are torn apart laying lifeless in a pool of their own blood on the ground while several other dead werewolves are sc
Wyatt POVKatelyn and I stand on either side of the wounded beta. We take our hands off the beta as he opens his eyes. After shifting back to his human form as we heal him, he looks between my mate and me, before he asks, “What happened? I thought I was going to die.”I shake my head. “Not today. We won’t let that happen.”A faint smile dances across Katelyn’s face. “We brought you back, and we will heal others too, as the battle continues.”Before the beta can ask anymore, I say, “Since you are back, we will go onto the next one.”Katelyn and I stand up and look around the battlefield, while the beta glances between my mate and me. However, we don’t get any rest, as Zee and Scott bring another severely injured warrior from one of our packs. The beta continues to sit and watch us as Katelyn and I take the injured
I burst into the clearing. The growls and howls of battle have been ringing through the forest, but I’m still surprised when I come into the clearing. Not only is Alpha Marcus’ pack here, but all of his allies, along with all of our allies. The clearing is full of werewolves. All of them are fighting with everything that they have. Our first wave of warriors appears from the forest at the same time that Katelyn, Ford, Bridget and I arrive. The plan is to have Katelyn and Bridget stay along the sidelines to use their abilities to locate people and heal them, if needed. The key person who we are trying to locate is Alpha Marcus.I glance around the field. I see a lot of blood and the smell of death is in the air, while fangs and claws continue to fly everywhere, but I’m not seeing Alpha Marcus yet. Before I can ask, Bridget states via the mind link, “Alpha Marcus isn’t here y
Mason POVWyatt has given the signal that things will happen fast now. Alpha Marcus has people trying to find out who is meddling with his allies’ companies. It is only a matter of time now. However, we still will not bring the physical fight to our pack lands. That doesn’t mean that our allies won’t see the war coming to them, though. When Alpha Marcus realizes our pack is behind everything, our allies won’t be safe either.Luckily, we have come up with a plan for that. Donna’s old pack is more than willing to have the physical fight on their pack lands, which is actually the best location. Her former pack’s lands are at the edge of Alpha Marcus’ alliance pack lands. On the other hand, our alliance packs are located practically in a semi-circle around her old pack, which is why it makes perfect sense to have the physical fight there.
Katelyn POV“I said that I’m just tired. There is no need to have the doctor look at me.” I scan the small group of people in my bedroom. Yes. My bedroom.I woke up just a few moments ago to Wyatt, Ford, Bridget and Dr. Bright standing beside the bed. They are all looking down at me, but I honestly don’t have the energy to fight right now. I’m just so tired.Bridget smiles and sits down on the bed next to me. She gently grabs my hands. “Katelyn, I saw the last two puzzle pieces. That is why we are here.”Wyatt huffs, “You still haven’t told me why you brought the doctor with you or who the last two pieces are.”With Bridget still looking at me, she smiles and gently rubs her thumbs against the back of my hands. “Their names are Max and Trish.”Wyatt sighs. “Okay. When are
