Chapter Ten - Family

Kari's POV

There was a knock on my door. I didn't move from where I was sitting on the floor.

"Kari." Came my father's voice. It took me everything to hold down a sob. I hear him shuffling around outside. "I am so sorry my like peppercorn."

"Pappa," I whispered.

"I wish I could bring your mother back. I wish I could change how everything happened. It broke my heart leaving you, but I can tell you, if my father had found out who she really was, he would have used her to get what he wanted. He would have made her life a living hell, and I wouldn't be surprised if he forcefully marked her. And God knows what he would have done to you." He whispered and I was sure he was crying. I put a hand on the door and sobbed. "I know you think I left you, but I had to, for your safety. I never knew how it would affect your mother. Being human, it shouldn't have affected her in such a way. But now I know, my leaving caused her more pain than I was aware of."

    Henrik's POV. I was starting to feel overwhelmed, so I couldn't imagine how Kari was feeling. After we had completed the blood bonds, to not speak of what Hela had told us, and after she had told us she didn't trust the Beta, I even became wary of him.     I sat in the pack's garden. They were beautiful, fully maintained, and looked after.
