4 DAYS UNTIL THE TRIAL BEGINS
All of the applicants were nervous, though some were more so than others. Luciana was torn between wanting to win it all and being unsure. She was well aware that if she won, she would be fulfilling her father's wishes, and she despised seeing him get what he desired. On the other hand, becoming the champion of Ithea was part of her dream, so they'd both receive what they wanted in the end.
She carefully packed her belongings and took her time going over what she would need for the trip. The trials were supposed to take place somewhere else than the school grounds. It was supposed to take place in a safe spot in Sunset City. Sunset City served as the kingdom's trading hub. Most commodities and goods would be manufactured there, and it also held some of the kingdom's most contemporary facilities. The school had rented out a sports complex that could be considered a city in and of itself.
The trials would be held there, and the students would be transported by plane. It was a long way from the school, possibly a twelve-hour flight, so they had to bring whatever entertainment they could for the lengthy journey. They would be accompanied by their lecturers and a few other members of staff, as well as the school's medical team, who would look after them.
Luciana finished packing and returned to the school administration to say her goodbyes to the rest of her classmates and faculty. Norval, as usual, had already finished everything before her and was ready to leave; all they had to do then was wait for Jalon Barr to finish combing his hair.
“Can you tell me where that idiot is? Isn't he aware that the bus to the airport departs in five minutes?” Luciana said, her gaze fixed on her wristwatch. Jalon appeared from the other end of the corridor where the two were standing as if he had heard her call. While two other students battled with his bags, he was carrying a backpack and filmed himself with his phone. He'd brought four suitcases, all of which were completely full.
“Are you migrating? Mr. Starkridge specifically stated that we should only bring two travel bags with us. “What are you doing with four suitcases?”. Luciana had inquired.
“Well, if you were a top-tier model like me, you'd understand. You can't travel with two shirts in one luggage. What kind of animal are you?” Jalon wondered as he paused his live video.
Norval was uninterested in conversing with him. He believed that using his intelligence on a futile conversation with him would be a waste of time.
They boarded the school bus one by one as it pulled up in front of them. Jalon's bags were stuffed into the bus by the kids who assisted him.
“Hey! Be careful with that," When he observed how abusive they were with the bags, he yelled at them, "Those suitcases are holding clothes with price tags larger than your allowance!" They finally got them into the bust's trunk and walked back into the school grounds, pleased that Jalon was no longer on their backs.
The faculty was the next to board the bus, and they did so in elegance, greeting the candidate as they took their seats. After everyone had aboard, the engines were revved up and they were off.
Throughout the journey, Luciana kept thinking about how her fellow competitors would react if they knew the tournament was rigged and that they had no chance of winning since all of the judges had been paid off to tip the scales in Luciana's favor. She wished she could tell them, but she lacked the guts to do so. They didn't appear offended in the first place by the king's conduct when he declared her daughter the new champion on live television. Even if her students realized the competition was rigged, Luciana knew they would still give it their all and battle fiercely.
They were at the airport and boarding their one-way flight to Sunset City before they realized it. Jalon was afraid of flying, but he never told the others, so when they found out, they took advantage of the situation to harass him as much as they could until the faculty intervened. Norval made a point of photographing and filming Jalon's fright as the plane took off, laughing his head off whenever Jalon screamed like a girl when the plane hit turbulence.
The plane was finally in the air after a grueling session of battling the winds to stabilize, and it would be simple sailing from there.
As he scrolled through his phone, Jalon observed, "huh, so these are the guys we'll be facing in the first phase of the trials."
Luciana inquired, "What are you talking about?"
“Are you unaware of the first stage of the trials? We'll be competing against students from various kingdoms and schools.” Jalon remarked.
“And how do you know we're going to be up against them?” The trial setup is a closely guarded secret. What do you know about the students we'll be up against?” Norval inquired, coming in closer to examine Jalon's phone.
“That's right, you're not as well-known as I am. It's great to have a fan base because they can tell you anything. According to my inside sources, a few pupils are traveling today, just like us. And Sunset City is their final destination,” Jalon explained.
“And you obtained all of this info from your Social page?” Luciana inquired sarcastically.
“Do you want to know them or not?” Jalon asked.
Norval and Luciana drew closer together to gather information.
“All right, first up is Eadmer Todd. He's known as the "Prodigy from The North." He graduated as a first-class android mechanic from The Seolaran Academy of Arts, where he studies weapon technology. And, get this, he's just fourteen,” Jalon added, feigning surprise. “I'm guessing you'll be pitted against him Luciana,” he said.
She questioned, "Why me?"
He answered, "Well, let's just call it a gut feeling."
“All right, who's up next? Wardric Waller is here. A Yulcite mage who knows the scriptures through and out. He is a devout monk from Yulcite's Holy Shrine of Daebesia. Norval, that will be quite a challenge,” Jalon stated.
“Last but certainly not least, we have Vandrad Stanier. Lorth magician from the sacred mountains in the south, self-taught. That won't be much of a task for me,” Jalon said as he scrolled down the fan page's pages.
“Defeating Seolarans is a difficult task. Especially because Alchemy is very much matched up against their science and technology,” Norval replied, his gaze falling on Luciana's.
“Well, I can assure you that I am not concerned about a sixteen-year-old boy,” she remarked as she sank back into her seat.
Except for Jalon Barr's horrible signing when he got lost in his playlist, listening to his music through his headphones, the remainder of the ride was largely calm. They already had enough to be concerned about. It would be a difficult task for them, especially because they had never fought anybody else during their training except their fellow alchemist. Aside from that, they'd never encountered any other magicians who employed a different type of magic. They consoled themselves by reminding themselves that, just as it would be difficult to combat another magician who wasn't an alchemist, their opponents would encounter a similar challenge because they had never faced an alchemist before. It provided them peace of mind as they rested because the chances were evened out by that one factor.

The lorth magician said, “Come closer, Mr. Gale, with your hands up.”
Rhaizen Gale carried out the orders given to him. He didn't want anything to happen to Nelanian, so he carried out the commands. He added, "Don't hurt the boy, and I swear I won't have to kill you."
“Are you going to kill us? You clearly don't believe the odds are on our side, and you have no authority to threaten us,”
The lorth mage answered, his self-assurance growing.Nelanian tried everything he could to get free from the alchemist's grip, but his hands were too tightly wrapped around his next.
“Gale! Kill them all! Don't listen to them!" Nelanian screamed angrily.
“Slow down, kid. Rhaizen Gale remarked, "I got this under control." He approached the lorth mage with caution until he came to a halt.
“OK, that's far enough,” the lorth mage stated. “I don't want you to go too close because you could have some ideas I don't like.” He walked over to the alchemist and Nelanian, closing his grimoire and bowing his head.
“ This child appears to be important to you; how do you know him? Is he your brother or a child of yours? No, I don't believe so; he's far too old to be your child,” the lorth wizard said as he examined Nelanian. He combed his fingers across Nelanian's hair, and his crystallized skin crackled as he did so.
“Hmm, I wonder what his black market price would be if I sold his body parts; a young alchemist heart is quite expensive these days,” the lorth mage mused, eliciting a response from Rhaizen Gale. He reached into his sleeve and drew out a vial. He'd kept it under wraps for a long time. When he threw it to the ground, a similar blast of green smoke erupted, blanketing the entire field in a thick green haze.
“Have the applicants already left for the trials?” “The king inquired. He walked around Mr. Starkridge's office, tipping books and pens down on the dusty carpet and watching them roll.“Yes, sir, they left a few hours ago. He said, swallowing hard and loosening his tie in agitation, “I assume they have already boarded the plane and are on their way to Sunset City as we speak.” The lady who had accompanied the king took a seat on one of the couches closer to the office door. While the two were speaking, she started fussing with her nails.“Mr. Starkridge, didn’t I tell you that letting the boy live was going to cause some, complications. I suggested that we just kill the boy right then and there and be done with it. But you had to resort to the slow and methodical approach of feeding him blue fire, how did it go? ” The king inquired as he rested his hand on one of the pens and picked it up.“Uhm sir, I don't think it's appropriate to discuss such a thing in front
The students carried their luggage through the airport lobby. Jalon had to bear the weight of all four suitcases because the boys who had assisted him in loading them into the bus did not accompany him. Some of the flight attendants felt sorry for him and offered to assist him with his luggage. They walked through the congested airport, and some of the passengers in the lobby who were waiting for their flights recognized them. Others ran up to them and offered to carry their luggage, while others requested photographs and pictures.“All right, that's enough guys, we're here for the trials, not for show,” one of the professors stated, calmly asking airport security to keep the others from approaching the applicants any closer. They finally made it outside the airport, where a luxurious traveling coach was waiting for them. They were about to start packing their belongings when Norval noticed something.“Hey, Jalon, take a look. Isn't that the same kid you m
Mr. Starkridge was starting to feel anxious. It had been over an hour since his secret agent had called. He believed dealing with an unarmed woman would be straightforward, but Mr. Starkridge was aware that something had happened to him at that time.As he strolled up and down his office, he thought to himself, "That stupid rat better not get caught." He reached for a tumbler of bourbon laying on his desk and took one last long swig before calling it a night. He reached for his overcoat, which was laying on the armrest of his office chair, and exclaimed, "That's it, I'm out of here." He had various paperwork on the table, including a passport, an identification card, and two aircraft tickets. He was on the verge of fleeing the realm. He hurriedly slung the overcoat over his back and stuffed the documents into his briefcase. He looked around the room for anything unusual. The papers were strewn across the floor and the shards of broken glass didn't appear to con
He was seated in the room's centre. Judy and Cecily were on the far end of the room, speaking in private, surrounded by butlers and groundsmen.Cecily tightened the belt on her robe and inquired, "Are you sure nobody followed you?" Judy took a moment to react, her mind wandering back to her visit to the Ethel estate. She was careful enough to ensure that no one had followed her.“I don't believe anyone followed me. I got here on my own, and this road is lonely at night, and I believe I drove up here alone,” she finally said.Sparkles was lying down on their side. She slipped back to sleep as if nothing had happened when the ache of the kick ad dissipated. The quick motions of the butlers and groundsmen were the only things that jolted her awake. They recognised the lady of the house and saluted her as she down the stairs.Mrs. Barbara Ethel moved slowly down the flight of stairs, her eyes heavy, black rings had formed under the
Nelanian returned to the shanty where he had been resting. His head throbbed with a headache, and he couldn't concentrate on anything for long. It hurt him in waves, inducing light drowsiness before assaulting him with violent anguish that forced him to fall out of his chair. He reached for a drink he'd made himself and drank two hefty tastes of it. He felt strong enough to walk again after a few moments of resting his mass on the chair, so he got to his feet and walked toward the shack's entrance. It was an aging house that could have easily been blown down by a strong enough breeze, termites had eaten through most of the walls, and it didn't even have a door. Nelanian had tied a sack he found near a farm, cut it, patched it together to form a curtain, and hung it over the door frame as his door. When he stepped outdoors, he spotted black clouds moving in from the south. A storm was approaching, and he needed to finish whatever he was working on before the rain caught him ou
“Do you have a family?”“No,” “What is your race, do you identify with any race?”“None, I'm not of any race,”“then that is what they mean when they say you are special. You have no family, so when you die or are slain and left to rot on the streets like a rat, no one will mourn you. You don't have a home, which means you have nowhere to go if things go bad and you have to go. The adversaries won't know where to seek you. Because you don't have a race, your DNA and fingerprints can't be traced back to any Kingdom when they're found in a murder scene, making you the ideal assassin, a ghost who can't be tracked. The Watchers utilize you and then dump you out when they no longer need you, just like they did with me. So, kid, the only thing they noticed about you is that you are nothing, nothing!” he eventually returned to the trail and walked away.Nela
Luciana, Norval, and Jalon were all seated on the bench in front of the entrance to the sports complex's head office, where the manager normally sat. Their professors had summoned them to the office for an unscheduled meeting. Because the IAA had closed, the candidates needed to know what they should do after the trials. UNDISCLOSED LOCATION Outside the shack, Nelanian sat. He was trying to wring the water out of his soaked garments. The torrential rain that had poured all night had flooded through his ancient house and soaked up all he owned. His clothing were in a sac in one corner of the cabin, and they had spent the night sitting in a puddle of water. He awoke the next morning with an annoying cough and a fully closed nose. He spent the remainder of the day trying to stay warm and salvage what he could from the rain. It was a miracle thathe managed to fall asleepduring the storm. Even in more affluent homes, the other people down the hill were unable to sleep. The sleeping infants would be awoken by thunderclaps and would scream at the top of their lungs for the rest of the night. Strong gusts would blow open their flimsy windows, letting in a cold, heavy breeze that no one would be able to ignore. Raindrops would collect on their rooftops and form a puddle, cau
The interment was quick and uninteresting. Rhaizen Gale was laid to rest by drunkards who didn't give a damn about his body or his funeral. All they could think about was how quickly the ceremony would end so they could return to their normal lives and forget about that miserable excuse for a man. They wanted the trials to begin so that a new champion could be chosen, one who was descended from royalty and had noble blood coursing through her veins.Luciana was the one who was going to be chosen, as were the majority of IAA students and faculty thought. She had the numbers and the support to back it up. She had always been at the top of her class since her enrollment, and her grades had never slipped. She also showed remarkable promise on the battlefield, winning every tournament she participated in. She was occasionally beatenby Jalon Barr in combat tests and Cecily in alchemy tests, although overall she ranked higher than both when compared. Cecily's absence from

The commotion and unrest raged on, students running across hallways and slamming on each other. “They are at the entrance! Call the candidates!” one of the students yelled at another. The media had flooded the schools gate, calling to the school teachers and lecturers to release the candidates for the seat of Ithea's champion for an interview with them.“Please step back people. At the school's gates, a fleet of escort cars arrived. The arriving fleet was heard from afar by the idle camera crew who was sleeping the night away in the parking lot. They promptly turned on their cameras. One of the cars came to a standstill, and the back door opened a notch. Two young men dressed in casual clothing emerged and rolled out a red carpet across the pavement leading to the gates. The automobile then moved forward, making room for a limousine to enter the scene smoothly. The camera team fought for a good view of the gorgeous vehicle from both sides of the spread carpet. It came to rest exactly on the carpet, and the front doors opened, revealing two bodyguards. They dashed to the back of the vehicle and cautiously opened the back door.A lovely leg, adorned with pricey stilettos and a stunning gown, stepped out of the automobile. As she stepped out of the car and onto the carpet, the bodyguard extended his arm, and a feminine hand reached out and clutch

"She's awake," Luciana heard a voice say from within her dream. she was coming to. Jalon had snuck close to her. She fought to open her eyes and could hear footsteps rushing tothe other side of the room as she did so. Someone was up to no good, she realised right away. She straightened her back and lowered her feet from the top of the bed to the ground, resting them over a pair of sandals next to it. She was blasted with an increasingly terrible headache as soon as she did so, and all she could do was clutch her head. On the other side of the room, she could hear Jalon's quiet giggles. "Can you tell me what happened?" "How did I end up here?" Luciana inquired, struggling to regain her balance.“You've been out for quite some time." Norval tried hard not to laugh as he stated, "The medical staff brought you here after your match with th
“We welcome you all to the first phase of the Trials of Ithea! ” the announcer said, eliciting a chorus of shouts from the audience.“The participants of this first phase will be none other than the candidates themselves. Luciana Vonner, Ithea's very own princess! The cameras zoomed in on Luciana, who stood clueless, and she could see herself on the enormous screen hanging over the arena, as the announcer shouted. She finally decided to wave to the throng, and they greeted her warmly, singing her name and waving banners spelling out her name into the air. Others carried cut-outs of her face, which they waved in the air as well. The atmosphere was electric and it was justified for the students to feel nervous, they had never experienced a crow of that size.“We have the one and only Jalon Barr, the teen sensation!” announcedthe broadcaster.
