Chapter 3

"Have your seat". Mrs. Brown said as Xayne entered into the office.

She sat on one of the chairs and turned to her.

Mrs. Brown finished writing whatever she was engrossed in and raised her head up clearing her throat.

"You asked me to see you if I can recollect".

"I did Miss Cruz, I mean Xayne".

"Sorry if I acted a little bit rude when you um....".

"I understand, it's alright".

"So here I am ". She muttered raising her hands up.

"We need to talk Xayne".

"Alright......".

"About your life".

"Hish! I hate that part".

"It's important so you don't get to regret in future and get to wish you had done the right thing". Mrs. Brown said taking off her spec.

"The future is nothing near, I'm eighteen, does that ring a bell?".

"Big bell, I understand how it feel to be eighteen, it's actually one of the best feeling".

"For you Mrs. Brown,My parents died a day to my eighteenth birthday, does it sound cool?".

"No it doesn't, sorry to ask but how did it happen".

"I hope you realize you're reviving the pain".

"Sorry is meant to relieve pain, a reason I added it". Mrs. Brown said and she smiled.

"Alright, we were returning from I think vacation at Nabraska, it was dark already and my mom had taken over the steering from my father". She said and bite her lower lips as she looked down.

"I didn't know how it happened because I had my eyes closed, I wanted to take a nap, I could hear my dad warning mom of a fog ahead, all that happened next was the vehicle hit something and it went somersaulting over and over and over and over.... ". Xayne kept repeating until she burst into tears.

" Hey it's alright ". Mrs. Xayne said cleaning her tears with her handkerchief.

" I can't say how it happened, Mom drives better than Dad, I don't still understand how and why she would drift out of the road into the woods".

"We can't explain accidents sometimes Xayne, they just happen in the twinkle of a eye, in a snap lives are gone, that's the world we live him, you said you were in the vehicle? ". She asked. 

"I survived, I didn't know what happened but I remembered hearing the siren of an ambulance, I remembered........".

Xayne paused for a while and raised her head up. 

"I woke up at the hospital and thought my parents survived as well but I was wrong, I was devastated to find out they were both gone, it sounded like a dream but it was beginning of the big bad nightmare in my life, I couldn't sleep, closing my eyes I see the accident happen over and over again like I was there again in flesh and blood ". She explained trying to hold her tears. 

" It happens dear, that's what make us human, the emotion we feel when we lose the once we love, the pain as a result of your strong core connection to them, you've gone through alot Xayne and I see that but you can't let the trauma keep eating you up, you have to move on ". 

" I can't, I can't, I planned everyday of my life, every future with them in the picture and now that they're out of the picture, it's me alone ".

"No, circumstances change the future Xayne but it's then your responsibility to change and blend into the future, imagine your parent are watching you right now and seeing their only daughter taking her education like it's some piece of crap".

"Don't act like you know my parent". Xayne said angrily.

"That's what people who lose their parents say, you can never be nothing close to what they are, they are irreplaceable". Mrs. Brown mentioned and took a deep breath.

"Listen, your parent will be proud of you if you do what you would had done if they were alive, succeed". She whispered.

"I want to go into part time boxing, Mrs. Brown".

"I know that already, I was there last night".

"Really? You were at the Contra Stadium".

"I was, boxing is not your calling Xayne, you're just a high school kid not some street kid who's been fighting all her life".

"I'm starting to wonder when you switched to the discouragement path cos you were encouraging me to face the future, make momma and papa proud".

"Yes but education, the boxing part can come later".

"Thats the only way I let my aggression out, that's the only way I feel better and stop myself from being a psychotic maniac". She announced raising her hands up.

Mrs. Brown stared blankly at her and wore her spec again.

"Why the stares or you haven't heard of psychotic maniac before, I put the right combination right?".

"Am just wondering how the Xayne I knew turned over night, your were one of the best students here, words can't your rate of assimilation or your incredible retention skill, you could literally remember a lot of things but all that is changed... ".

" Because my anchors are gone ". Xayne sang.

" That's were you get it wrong, you own your life and you control it, not circumstances like your parents death, you now pretend like you know nothing Xayne, simple questions you refuse to answer, if that continues it might become reality, if you don't use that brain it might go dumb someday ".

" Thanks for your time Mrs. Brown ". Xayne said raising to get feet.

" As much as I hate to say this I love crazy jokes so don't take it personal ". She said pushing the chair back to it position.

" Your words are warming and I suggest you go for part time Motivational speaking or therapy ". Xayne said and she smiled.

"I know your type Xayne, when big brains like you go off the path, it quite difficult to get back on track because that stunning brain of yours gives you convincing reasons not to".

"I'll take my leave right away, bye". Xayne replied and left the office.

Tears formed in her eyes as she leaned against the door.

"Breath". 

"Breath, Xayne". She added.

"Yo you look stressed out". She heard a voice and opened her eyes to see the blurry image her teary eyes produced for her.

She cleaned her tears to see the Chubby dude in front of her.

"Did he break up with you, that's so crazy, how can anyone in their right sense leave an angel like you". He complimented.

"Dear Mr I seek broken girls can you disappear, I mean vanish out of sight ".

" I don't get you listen I notice you move alone, lonely girl but I can be a friend alright, we can even hit a boutique right now ". He said raising his hands up.

" There are lot of irritating mini devils in this damn school ". She cursed walking away.

" Hey ". He said trying to catch up with her.

She stopped abruptly and turned back.

" Did you watch the Zack Snyder's Justice League? ". She asked and his face brightened.

" Yeah of course, you must be a DC fan, nice to meet you". He said laughing.

"Did you get to see how Diana beheaded Steppenwolf?". She asked.

"Um yes, the scene was epic, I love that part, we could watch the movie together, I'll buy the tickets, bills on me".

"If you don't want to end up like Steppenwolf, stay away from me". She threatened and walked away.

"Damn! Deadly girls at Luna High um Diana.. Steppen... What the fvck is her name again".

Xayne entered into the classroom and sat beside Celeste who has a headset on.

"Oh baby C'mon!". She sang loudly and took it off.

"Hey, how did it go?".

"I spent almost an hour there".

"I'm asking you to summarize not full story".

"In conclusion, I can't remember".

"Geez! I'm gonna take you to a psychiatrist, first thing tomorrow morning read my lips".

"What lips? The one you use to kiss Jake or Lake what was his name again?".

"It's Jake, that's the past".

"I caught you In the restroom, were you gonna make out there? ".

"Just shut up!". Celeste said covering her mouth.

"He's my boyfriend so I can do whatever and wherever.... ".

" Just cut the crap, I think i need some air ".

" Mmmm".

"I got your keys, I'm going out". She said raising it up.

"Seriously? how did you?".

"When you're engrossed in the fantasy of remembering your kiss in the restroom, I'll be back". She said walking away.

"Do you want to die?". Celeste called following her.

"Maybe.. I'll bring your car in one piece so no fear, baby".

"Don't call me baby, You're still a learner who's gonna trash my vehicle into a... Let's talk about you wanna die?".

"I just need some air outside school, okay".

"Then let's go there". Celeste said taking the keys from her.

"No Celeste this is my cause not yours".

"Try and stop me then ". She said walking away.

Xayne waited for a while before moving out to meet Celeste.

She got into the Ferrari Dino 246 GTS and exhaled as the door closed.

"You think anyone saw us". Celeste asked.

"You shouldn't come Celeste".

"I'm your friend, so we're in everything together".

"Can you now see why you'll never find someone like me?". Xayne inquired.

"Nope". She replied starting the ignition.

She drove off speedily out of the school and into the the highway.

The Vehicle stopped by the side of the road which was opposite the woods and the girls alight from it..

"Here we are again at the accident site". Celeste said raising her hands up.

"I feel comfort whenever I come down here, it feels like their spirits are here".

"You mean ghost, we come here almost thrice every week".

"How long did it take you to get over your mom's death ".

" Months, after months of trauma, worst moment in my life ".

" I don't still understand what we ran into? ". Xayne said looking around.

" You need to stop getting yourself crazy Xayne ". Celeste said and someone in a hood appeared behind them after moving from a tree.

They both turned back at same time but saw no one.

" I saw something ". Celeste said.

" I saw the shadow". Xayne said looking around.

"It was right there". She added.

"C'mon girl". Celeste said pulling her away.

 "Don't you think it's a Ghost, maybe it's my parent and they want to speak to me".

"A good reason you're gonna see a psychiatrist first thing tomorrow". She and pushed her into the car.

The hoodie person appeared from behind a tree watching them again but as soon as Celeste turned back after closing the door he wasn't there anymore. 

Her eyes scanned around the woods before moving to the driver's seat.

She starts the ignition and drove off speedily.

There on the top of the tree was same person in a hood standing at ease on the branch as he watched the vehicle drove away.
