Chapter 40. Braveless

"Oh, my baby!" Eva hugged Cody immediately as she closed the front door. "Mommy!" Cody immediately ran to his mother. Eva burst into tears suddenly as she hugged her little prince. She didn't realize that her sobs had attracted Emilia's attention.

"Eve, why are you crying?" Emilia asked in a worried tone. She came over to Eva, who was still hugging Cody tightly. Emilia became increasingly concerned because Eva didn't answer at all. She stroked Eva's hair before hugging her also. Eva cried even louder as if something had happened to her. Emilia then pulled him to one of the couches to question her.

"Tell me what happened." Emilia asked Eva, who also put Cody on her lap.

"I can't tell you now," Eva glanced at Cody as a sign to Emilia that they could only talk privately. Emilia nodded in understanding and let Eva hug Cody for a few moments. After calming down, Eva released her hug from Cody. She still carried Cody and took him to the room.
