No One To Call

It's been 3 hours since the accident.

Lucky Hamilton stands outside St. Clair's Hospital, his body exhausted from the entire day.

His phone buzzes again and luckily for him, it’s a different name on the ID now. Still, he was in no mood to pick anybody’s calls.

Sighing, he shoves the device back into his pocket and rubs his temples, trying to ease the headache creeping in.

Inside the hospital, Daniella Blackwood had been discharged just half an hour ago. The doctors assured Lucky that she is fine, having only sustained minor injuries. Her car had been towed away, while his own vehicle, despite a few dents and scratches, was surprisingly intact.

Despite the relief that both were relatively unharmed, Lucky couldn't shake off the shock of the accident.

He steps back inside the hospital, and finds Daniella sitting in the waiting area, he approaches with a gentle smile "Hey there," he greets softly, trying not to startle her.

Daniella looks up, her eyes still slightly red from tears shed in the aftermath of the accident. She manages a weak smile, “Hi," she replies softly, her voice hoarse.

"How are you feeling" Lucky asks, concern evident in his features.

“I feel okay. Much better than when I came in, that's for sure.

They both chuckled at that.

"I can drop you off at home. You know that right?"

Daniella hesitates, her hands fidgeting in her lap. She had already refused once. "I... I don't want to be a bother," she murmurs, her voice barely audible.

"You're not a bother," Lucky reassures her gently, crouching down to her eye level. "I want to make sure you're okay. Please, let me take you home."

A flicker of indecision passes across Daniella's face before she shakes her head slightly. "I appreciate your kindness, but I need to be alone right now," she states matter of fact.

Lucky sighs inwardly, feeling a pang of helplessness. He can tell that a part of her was in distress. "Alright. Can I at least call someone for you? A friend, family?"

Daniella's expression darkens for a moment, a shadow crossing her features. "I... I don't have anyone," she admits quietly, her voice tinged with a hint of sadness.

He studies her for a moment, his gaze softening. "You don't have to refuse you know ," he says gently, reaching out to touch her hand briefly. "Let me help you."

“I don’t need your help” She says and looks away from him.

“Well I won’t feel comfortable knowing there’s no one coming to get you”

“I called a friend ” Daniela blurts out. “She’s already on her way. So I’m good. I promise”

“Well I can keep you company till this friend comes” Lucky offers

Daniella looks down at their hands, her throat tightening. "Thank you but I want to be alone right now," she whispers, her voice barely audible.

Lucky nods understandingly, squeezing her hand reassuringly before standing up. "Alright then," he says softly."Take care of yourself, Daniela."

She manages a faint smile. "Goodnight, Lucky," she replies quietly, watching him walk away.

As Lucky exits the hospital, a sense of unease lingers. He glances back at Daniela one last time, hoping she'll be alright.
