He was in a haste, as he wanted to get everything arranged as soon as possible so that Ella could go and get the scorpion venom from the witch. It was a steep hill with rocks protruding from its edge, which made climbing possible. But for the rocks protruding out, it would have been impossible to climb the steep hill.
