Chapter 145

Author: Good Night
Anthony dragged Rose deep into a secluded grove.

Rose's eyes were bloodshot as she glared at him. She gritted her teeth and asked, "A woman like me? What kind of woman am I? Anthony, do you really not know why I became this sort of woman? You're so heartless!"

"That's enough!" Anthony had run out of patience.

He asked Rose impatiently, "How many times do I need to tell you that this is all part of my strategy? Don't you see that Summer's attitude toward me has changed?"

Rose let out a cold laugh. "Anthony, when did you become so naive? I already told you earlier. Summer knows everything. There's no way she'll ever like you!"

"If you hadn't been running your mouth in front of her, she would have!" he spat out.

He knew that Summer liked him. Especially after their conversations today.

Every moment of hesitation and doubt Summer had was connected to Rose. If Rose wasn't standing in the way, would he even need to work this hard?

"I never told her anything. Summer guessed it all he

It was about time, so Summer leisurely strolled out of the elevator and headed straight to her dorm room. After she unlocked the door with her fingerprint and pushed it open, her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. She quickly slipped inside and shut the door behind her."What? Is someone chasing you?" Mason looked up at her while he sat comfortably on her small couch. His handsome face was full of innocence."Why are you in my room?" Summer set her books down and walked to him."Yesterday, I agreed you didn't have to leave campus to tend to your wounds, but it still needs to be treated. Since you can't go out, I had to come in." Mason rested one arm on the back of the couch, maintaining his upward-looking posture. He sounded completely justified.Summer stomped her foot in frustration. "I know how to change my own bandages! Mason, you…"She dragged on for a while but couldn't find the words to say."You got hurt because of me, so I have a responsibility to take care of you

"Just an ordinary high school girl?" Mason raised an eyebrow. For some reason, Summer felt guilty for a second. "Why are you talking so much? You've treated my wounds, so you can go now."Mason tidied up the table slowly. "I have to wait a little. You just got back, so your bodyguards will be extra cautious. Give it a bit of time."Summer wanted to argue, but he wasn't wrong. She waved him off in resignation. "Whatever. Just don't disturb me studying.""Okay!" He nodded, looking unnaturally obedient for someone like him.Summer was exasperated. She had just sat down when the bell rang. Then, she immediately sprang up from her chair."Not a sound!" She shot a fierce glare at Mason and warned him in a low voice.Mason nodded and stayed silent.Summer immediately hurried to the intercom screen. When she looked at the display, she nearly had a heart attack. It was the middle of the night, but all three members of her family were there."Is Summer asleep?" Henry wondered after a

"It was just an accident," Summer replied.Meanwhile, Henry was still wandering around the dorm and had now made his way into Summer's tiny kitchen.Kristen asked in a low voice, "Summer, I heard that Rose returned to school. Did you two…"Summer suddenly understood everything. No wonder they came to school so late. It seemed like they had just found out about Rose returning to school and were worried about her. That was why they rushed over in the middle of the night.Kristen's words had a clear implication to them.Rose had just returned, and Summer's phone broke. Could those two things be connected?Summer shook her head. "It wasn't her. She wouldn't dare.""Do you remember what you promised me before this? Don't hide anything from us," Kristen said sternly."It really wasn't her," Summer responded while keeping an eye on Henry. It seemed like Henry really was going to inspect every corner of the dorm."Grandpa, stop pacing around. Come sit down and have some water," Summe

"I've just been doing too many practice papers lately. My wrist was feeling sore," Summer said, looking pitiful."Why are you working so hard? I don't need you to get perfect scores. You're overworking your little hands!" Henry's heart ached."Senior year is like this for everyone. Dad, we agreed that we can't spoil her," Kristen chastised.Henry huffed in frustration."Does it hurt a lot?" Luke asked."It's alright. The bandages are like a wrist brace, so it feels much better," Summer admitted honestly.Mason's bandage was honestly useful. The fabric was soft, and it was waterproof and breathable."I'll bring you something even better tomorrow," Luke said."Thanks, Dad!" Summer replied."No. She should just come back home…" Henry couldn't bear it anymore."Dad, we agreed not to disrupt Summer's routine. Just look at her schedule. She has to wake up at 5:00 am tomorrow. She barely has time to sleep. Let's not disturb her. We can reward her properly after the SATs," Kristen sa

Summer had been furious at first, but her anger disappeared when she saw Mason curled up in her wardrobe like that. She grabbed a pillow from the side and threw it at his head. "What are you squatting in there for? Get out!"Mason caught the pillow and stepped out of the wardrobe.Summer snarled at him. "Who let you throw my clothes everywhere? Get out! Out!"As she said that, she began picking up the scattered clothes with a headache.Mason didn't leave. Instead, he stood there and watched. "I can help.""Do you know how to fold clothes?" She glanced at him.He shook his head. "But it's just folding clothes. It shouldn't be hard."Summer picked up a dress and handed it to him. "Go ahead and fold this."A moment later, Mason stared at the horribly folded dress in his hands with a look of confusion on his handsome face. Why was it so messy?Summer sighed. "You should forget about it. My grandpa was acting strange just now. He doesn't usually enter my room without permission.

"What are you standing there for? Take yours." Summer glanced back at Mason. Then, she picked up her own plate and walked toward the living room.Mason went into the kitchen and looked at the cake before his lips curled up slightly. He carried his plate out and asked, "Is it good?""I really like it," she replied."That's good." He nodded thoughtfully."You should probably leave after you finish this," she suggested."I'll wait until after midnight just to be safe," he replied.Summer was speechless. But he wasn't wrong. There was always a what-if.Just as she was thinking that, a sudden crack of thunder boomed outside. It was the first thunderstorm Summer encountered since her reincarnation. The color drained from her face instantly. Her mind was suddenly filled with images of her being tortured in that asylum. It was as if she returned to that dark, filthy place that was filled with the stench of rot and mold."What's wrong?" Mason immediately noticed that something was of

Summer still hadn't stopped sobbing.Mason felt like his heart was shattering. At that moment, she suddenly started to struggle in agony even more. "Mason!"He froze for a moment."Don't come in. Go… You'll die… Just leave!" Summer muttered.Mason immediately grasped her hand tightly. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to be right by your side. If you don't want me to die, then I will never die."He didn't know if Summer heard his words or not. She might just have felt a sense of safety when he held her hand. But after a moment, she started to calm down. She sobbed quietly for a while before she slowly fell asleep with the tears still on her lashes.Mason was absolutely certain at that moment that Summer had definitely suffered some severe psychological trauma, although he didn't know when.Sitting beside her and silently keeping watch over her, he felt his heart burning up in anger. It didn't matter who caused this kind of terror and fear in her, but he would definitely find t

"Got it." Summer nodded. Then, her gaze landed on a small box that was next to the pills on the coffee table. "What else did you leave behind?""You got first place in the whole year in the last exams. It's a present," Mason answered. She chuckled in exasperation. "Mr. Hunt, do you think I'm a kid studying in kindergarten? Why don't you just give me a big star sticker as a reward?""I'll do it next time," he answered.Summer held her phone in one hand as she opened the box with another. When she saw the contents of the box, the smile on her face stiffened. In the box was a tiny, pink crystal pig."Summer, I secretly took a peek at the gift Anthony gave you just now. It's so adorable."A memory of an identical little pig surfaced in her mind."Where did you get this?" she asked."Do you like it?" Mason asked back."Where did you get it?" Summer emphasized again. It was the second time—the coming-of-age necklace and this crystal pig.Why were the things Mason was giving her t

"Go sit down over there!" Summer pointed at the dining room.Mason looked like he wanted to protest, but when Summer glared at him, he sat down obediently."When are you going out?" he asked. She answered, "I need to go out and discuss some things, so I'll be leaving around 10:00 am. I'll try my best to come back before 3:00 pm.""That long?" Mason frowned.Summer poured the chicken broth over the freshly cooked noodles and added two eggs inside before she put the bowl in front of Mason. "Mr. Hunt, I don't like clingy boyfriends. Keep that in mind."Mason didn't know what to say to that. Was he clingy?"Is there anything you want to eat? I'll bring something back for you." Summer decided to offer a small reward after scolding him."Crayfish that you made," Mason said without any hesitation."That's something for next year, so pick something else." She waved it off."How about that place you brought me to last time?" Mason said after some thought. He remembered her enjoying th

That night was a night filled with unease for a lot of people.Anthony switched on his computer and copied two files from an encrypted folder. He had learned that Power Construction was trying to get into the IT industry as well and was looking for a product that would help them break into the market. The two files contained an application and a game. In his eyes, as long as these were developed and released, they would rake in massive profits. Those two files were both from Rose.Initially, they had been meant for him to use as a way to enter Hartford Group."Summer, I'll make sure you regret the decisions you made in the past," Anthony said as he looked at Summer's photo.Initially, he hadn't suspected Summer at all for what happened on the mountain. But when he was leaving, he secretly took that bottle of alcohol with him. Upon closer inspection, he realized the bottle wasn't the one he had tampered with. That was when he finally understood. Summer had probably known all about

Summer felt a sharp pain in her heart, and her eyes started to redden as well.Mason was stunned, not knowing what he did wrong at all. He started to panic. "What's wrong? Did I say something I shouldn't have? Don't cry.""Idiot," Summer scolded as she looked at him.Mason was utterly confused. He lightly patted her on the head and asked, "Why are you so upset?"Summer shook her head. "It's nothing. Didn't you see all the dirt about me online? You still like me after all of that?"Mason shook his head. "I didn't see those. Even if I did, I'd still like you. I know how you are. There's no need for me to learn about you from others.""Wow! Someone's a smooth talker." Summer finally smiled.Mason let out a sigh of relief. "Do you have anything else you want to ask about?""There's nothing else." Summer shook her head."Then, can I…" Mason actually didn't forget about him wanting to pay Henry a visit."You can't!" Summer shut him down immediately before she picked up the cotton s

Mason's complaint seemed laced with complicated emotions. When Summer heard it, she felt her heart skip a beat. She frowned. "How could I not remember anything at all? That doesn't make sense. I was pretty smart when I was six years old. I was thinking about it, and I could even remember getting scolded by my mom after stealing some cookies.""And you look so…" Summer almost blurted out that he looked so good. There was no way she wouldn't remember Mason since she had been a sucker for good looks since she was young. If Mason wasn't lying, then she probably ran over to console him because he was just too good-looking. Otherwise, there was no way she would have dared to get so close to a stranger."And I look what?" Mason asked innocently."You know exactly what you look like," Summer answered vaguely. "I'll go back and ask my parents if I went to that cemetery back then.""Good." Mason nodded.Summer put her arms around his neck again. "I'll believe you for now, but you'd better

Summer was stunned as she looked at Mason in shock. "You…""And that special whack-a-mole game…. I happened to see it when someone hacked into my company's computers a while ago." Mason leaned closer to Summer. "X."Summer felt chills all over as she dropped the cotton swab and took a few steps back. "Jesus! Who the hell are you?"He actually knew about the first game she ever made as a child and even knew she was X.Mason watched her and confirmed that Summer didn't remember anything at all. She wasn't that young back then, so how could she not remember anything?"I'm Mason," Mason answered.Summer's thoughts were in chaos.Mason had mentioned that special game she never told anyone about from when she was young, and he recognized that special whack-a-mole and determined that she was X.It meant that he had the right person. After Summer calmed down, she hurried back to Mason's side and lightly grabbed his neck, pretending to strangle him. Anthony took a step back. "Alright. Let's go back now. We can talk to your parents together. Don't be so emotional and stay calm. Don't make them worry anymore. I can tell that they love you very much. It's just that they're a little too old-fashioned."Janice sneered. Her face was still stinging from when Patrick slapped her earlier.Love? The only thing they loved was the family's reputation and social standing."Anthony, if you want to get involved in Power Construction, you'll need some real skills. That woman just now was my aunt, and her husband is the general manager of Power Construction's IT department. Bring him down for me." Janice watched Anthony.Anthony nodded without any hesitation. "I'll get it done within three months."…Summer was swamped with the launch of her game, as well as taking care of Mason, the little puppy. The entire day had been a whirlwind of work.Mason realized she was really busy with something important, so he stopped bothering her too much. H

Janice glared at Anthony. "Drop the act. Who used you? Weren't you trying to climb your way into a rich family?"Anthony said slowly, "I love Summer, and the one I want is her, too! She gave me so many hints before, and she was the one who invited me into her tent that night. Otherwise, why would I have gone in? I had no idea the person inside wasn't her!"Janice frowned.Thinking it over, that did make some sense. Why did Anthony need to do that to her in Summer's tent? And there were a lot of rumors surrounding Anthony and Summer in school as well.Anthony grabbed Janice's shoulder. "You can die right now if you want to, but those who harmed us won't feel guilty about it at all. Instead, they'll be pleased that their wicked plans worked. But we can't let that happen, okay? The more we're hurting, the more we need to get revenge on them!"Janice looked a bit surprised. "Revenge? On Summer?""Yes!" Anthony said firmly."How would we get that?" Janice asked. She was definitely u

Janice had once been an outstanding student who excelled in every manner. Compared to Janice, Nora's own child fell far behind. On top of that, Brad had retired a few years ago, and the position of CEO for Power Construction had been given to Patrick, which made Nora incredibly unhappy. With Janice getting caught up in one scandal after another, Nora took full advantage of it. She moved back right away and spent her days whispering into Brad's ears. She embellished all the rumors from the outside and fed them to Brad. Otherwise, there was no way Brad would be so furious."Shut up!" Janice was already sick of Nora's mockery."Oh, my! Dad, just look at her talking to her elders like that. She's completely lost her manners," Nora feigned fear.Janice felt her whole body trembling. What Summer said earlier constantly echoed in her head. She had spent all this time looking for Rose, but she never expected Anthony to barge into her own home. She really didn't know what Anthony said t

Mason let out a long sigh. "Oh, no… What am I supposed to do if you're going out tomorrow?"Summer was bewildered. Mason was supposed to be some notorious monster of a CEO, so why was he acting so weak and pitiful?"Mason, do you really think I'm your personal maid?" she asked.Mason frowned. "Of course not.""You'd better not!" Summer warned.Mason still kept up with the pitiful look, and Summer couldn't bear to say anything else about it.But he was just putting on an act. He didn't actually stop Summer from going out. After that, Summer went and busied herself.Mason sat on the couch. After feeling bored for a while, he eventually started dealing with his own affairs. At dusk, something dawned on him. Tomorrow would be Saul's birthday. Things had been such a mess lately, and Kyle didn't remind him, so he had forgotten all about it.Mason probably wouldn't have time to get a gift anymore.
