Scarlett’s POV

The car rolled to a slow stop in front of the towering building, and my breath caught in my throat.

It was the Royal Crest Hotel.

I stared up at the grand hotel, my pulse hammering against my ribs. The entrance still looked the same—polished floors, towering glass doors, the golden hotel emblem shining under the bright chandelier.

I turned sharply towards Liam, my fingers clenching against the folds of my gown. "What is this? Why did you bring me here?"

Liam leaned back lazily in his seat, his dark eyes watching me with amusement.

Then, he smirked. "We are revisiting old memories." He tilted his head slightly, his voice dropping to something deeper. "This is the place where you drugged me."

The air inside the car suddenly felt suffocating.

I took a slow breath, keeping my expression blank, but inside, I was spiraling.

Why now? Why did he have to bring me back to this place? What was he thinking?

Liam didn’t move, didn’t blink. He was watching me like he was waiting. Wa

Scarlett’s POVShe looked exactly the same. The same face, the same wary eyes, the same nervous energy. I never thought I would see her again, yet here she was, standing right in front of me in this grand, glittering ballroom. For a second, I didn’t know what to say. Then she blinked, and recognition flickered in her gaze.“You… are Scarlett, aren't you?” Her voice was softer than I remembered, hesitant, like she wasn’t certain if she should acknowledge me or pretend we were strangers.I took a deep breath and managed a smile. "That's right. It's been quite a while.”She nodded slowly, and we exchanged a few polite words—How have you been? What are you doing now? But I wasn’t here for pleasantries. At that moment, my heart was pounding so loudly it felt like the whole room could hear it. I had waited so long for this moment, so long to find someone who could finally help me uncover the truth. I needed answers. But every time I tried steering the conversation towards that night, she

Scarlett's POV The room… it suddenly felt like it was closing in on me, with the chandeliers above casting golden light over the sea of wealthy guests. Their laughter and chatter blended into a dull hum in the background. But none of it mattered. Not the music, not the glittering dresses, not the smell of expensive perfume hanging in the air.All I could focus on was the woman standing in front of me. She had been my last hope. The one person who could help me prove the truth. The one person who could tell Liam, tell everyone, that I had nothing to do with what happened that night. And yet, she shook her head.My heart stopped. My breath stuck in my throat.I looked at her, then at Liam. My body felt like it wasn’t mine anymore, like I was floating outside of it, watching the moment unravel. I took a step back, the cold floor grounding me, but it did nothing to stop the feeling of dread wrapping around my chest. Then, suddenly, she spoke. "That night, you got into Liam’s bed. I saw i

Scarlett's POV I was frozen in place, my breath caught in my throat. My mind refused to process what I had just heard.Liam has fallen in love with me? No, this must be some kind of twisted game.I took another step back, shaking my head. “No! You’re breaking the contract! I never gave birth to your child, so you have no right to keep me with you!”Liam’s reaction was immediate. He threw his head back and laughed—a deep, low, mocking sound that sent shivers down my spine."Scarlett, Scarlett, Scarlett." He tsked, amusement lacing his voice. "The contract was meant to bind you, not me. Even if I break it, what can you do?"I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. "You think you’re above your own rules?"His eyes burned red with intensity as he leaned in, his voice dark and unwavering. “I don’t follow rules, sweetheart. I make them.”I felt his breath on my skin before his lips even got close. Panic shot through me like lightning.I shoved him back, using every ounce of str

Scarlett's POV The next morning, I woke up to find myself alone in bed. The sheets were cold, and the space beside me was empty. Liam had already left. The room was quiet, too quiet, and the sunlight streaming through the curtains felt too bright. The silk sheets felt cool against my skin, but the moment I opened my eyes, harsh reality came crashing down.I was trapped. As I sat up and pulled the blanket around me, I let the memories of last night flood back. My heart sank, and a cold, heavy feeling settled in my chest. I knew it now. There was no point in pretending otherwise. Liam had made himself clear—he loved me in his own twisted way, and he would never let me go.He had said it repeatedly as he fucked me, clear as day: “You’re mine, Scarlett. No one else’s. Mine.” And there was no way out. No escape. I buried my face in my hands, trying to think, to plan, to find some way to make him lose interest in me. But, my thoughts were useless.Liam was obsessed. And worse… he enjoy

Scarlett's POV I was fucking trapped.Days went by, but nothing changed.Every day, I was surrounded by the same four walls. The same windows I couldn’t open. The same doors I couldn’t walk through. And every night, I fell asleep knowing that freedom was just an illusion.Liam had made sure of that. After the birth control pills incident, he didn’t trust me anymore. Not that he ever really did. But now, it was worse. Now, I was a prisoner.“Please, Liam,” I had begged him just yesterday. “I can’t stay locked up like this. I’ll go crazy.”He had looked at me with those cold, unfeeling eyes of his. “Well, you should have thought about that before you betrayed me,” he had said, his voice like ice. “You don’t leave this house, Scarlett. Not until I say so.”And that was that. No arguing. No pleading. No nothing. Liam had spoken, and that was the end of it.So here I was, stuck in this stupid mansion. Morning, afternoon, night—it all felt the same. Boring. Endless. Maddening. At first, I

Scarlett's POV The next morning, I was surprised when my phone rang and I saw that it was my mother on the line. For a long moment, I just stared at it. It had been a while since the last time we spoke, and I was wondering why she was calling now. After the third ring, I finally answered."Scarlett," she said, voice clipped and sharp. "Meet me at the café on Main Street at ten o’clock."There was no hello. No warmth. Just a demand."Mom, I…"Before I could finish, she had already ended the call.I swallowed, my chest tightening. I didn’t know what I was walking into, but something told me it wasn’t going to be good.Liam was in the office when I had to call him to ask for permission."You want to go where?" His voice was low, calm, but I wasn’t stupid enough to mistake that for softness."My mother called. She wants to see me," I said carefully. There was a pause."Liam?""I heard you," he said. "And the answer is no."I squeezed the phone tighter. "Liam, she’s my mother. I just…""

Maybe slap me.But I never expected her to throw the coffee. The cup flew so fast I barely saw it coming. One second, it was sitting neatly in front of her, steam rising from its surface. The next, it was crashing against my forehead, sending a wave of burning liquid over my face and down my hair.Pain exploded in my skull as the cup hit hard, bouncing off before shattering onto the floor.A sudden gasp echoed through the café.I heard my mother’s voice—shaky, panicked. "Oh my God. Rosa!"A wave of heat spread over my skin, dripping down my neck and soaking into my shirt. Scarlett's POV In that moment, I finally understood everything. Why Rosa had chosen a crowded café.Why she had suddenly taken off her sunglasses. Why she had looked so calm, so confident, like she already knew how the story would end.It was all part of her plan. She wanted witnesses. She wanted an audience. She wanted to make sure everyone saw me as the villain. And she had succeeded. Now that her little show was over, she played the part of the poor, wounded sister. She sniffled, wiped away invisible tears, then turned and walked out, with our mother following right behind her. They left me there, sitting alone, drenched in humiliation.People whispered. Stared. Scarlett's POV I never thought Michael would actually find me.Not here. Not in this house—his house, technically. The one Liam bought for me like a gift I never asked for, like a cage made of glass. When I first heard the knock, I told myself it was nothing. Maybe a delivery. A mistake. But something about it made my chest tighten. There was something certain about the way the knock sounded, like the person behind the door knew exactly who was inside.Still, nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when I opened it.It was really Michael. Standing there like a memory I had spent the past week trying to forget. He looked breathless. Shocked. Then his eyes locked on mine, and they filled with something raw—not just shock, but something like relief. Like just seeing me had knocked the breath out of him.His gaze moved past me, scanning the hallway. His voice dropped to a whisper. “Is anyone else here?”I shook my head. The second I did, he stepped forward and pulled me into a hug

Michael's POV That night, the moment Liam’s car disappeared into the darkness with Scarlett in it, I knew something was very wrong. It wasn’t just the way he drove off like a madman, or the way Scarlett looked at me one last time before slamming the door shut behind her. It was something deeper than that. Something sickening in my gut that told me Liam and Scarlett were involved in something I didn’t understand.I ran to my car and tried to follow them, but I wasn’t fast enough. By the time I reached the edge of the road, his taillights were nothing but red smudges swallowed by the horizon. And just like that, she was gone.I parked the car and sat there in silence, my hands shaking on the steering wheel, struggling to breathe. The weight in my chest felt like someone had punched straight through my ribs and crushed my lungs with their bare hands.I should have stopped her. Damn it, I should have fought harder. But all I did was let her go.The guilt didn’t come slowly. It hit me all

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 97

Scarlett's POV The first thing I felt was the sharp pain in my hand. A dull ache, like something foreign pulled at my skin. As I blinked, my eyes slowly adjusted to soft lighting, and the world around me came into clearer view.I was in the bedroom, with the curtains drawn halfway, letting bits of sunlight to filter in. A quiet beeping sound echoed near my head—steady, calm.I then noticed an IV drip in my hand. And Liam… was asleep beside me, his head resting gently on my arm.My whole body went stiff. The weight of everything came rushing back in one painful wave—his rage, the beach, the shouting, the bruises, the sex, the way my body gave out on me… and then darkness. My breath caught in my throat, and without thinking, I recoiled.Liam stirred immediately. His head jerked up. His eyes, still heavy with sleep, met mine. For a split second, he just stared. Then something wild lit up in his face—relief, joy, something else I couldn’t name.“You’re awake,” he whispered, reaching up

Liam's POV I didn’t remember dialing the number. My fingers just moved on their own, like they knew what needed to be done before I did. My throat burned as I barked into the phone.“Get the doctor. Now. Private, discreet, and fast.”I didn’t wait for a response. I dropped the phone on the floor and fell to my knees beside the bed.Scarlett was too still. Her lips were slightly open, and her lashes rested like feathers against her cheeks. Her chest rose and fell so shallowly that it made me sick.I reached for her hand. It was warm, but limp.“Come on,” I whispered, moving her hair away from her face. “Don’t do this. Don’t pull this shit, Scarlett. Not with me.”The door suddenly burst open behind me, and when I looked up, James stood in the doorway. He stood frozen as he took in the scene before him.I didn’t need to explain because the room spoke for itself—clothes torn and scattered across the floor, pillows thrown, sheets twisted, and Scarlett… lying unconscious. His eyes went wi

Liam's POV I had never felt panic like that before. It started with a call from James. He said Scarlett had gone to her father’s house. At first, I thought she had gone there to visit her family, so I tried to be calm. Gave her the benefit of the doubt. But then hours went by, and she still hadn't come back. I even called her several times, but there was no answer. That was when something in me snapped. My chest started tightening with every minute as I anxiously paced back and forth in my study.Suddenly, James appeared near the front door like he sensed the tension cutting through the air.“Where is Scarlett?” I barked. “Why isn't she back yet? It's getting late!”James flinched. “Mr. Liam, I… I thought she would be back on time, so I didn't bother…”“So you just let her walk out?!” I slammed my hand against the wall. “Are you blind or just stupid, James?!”“I didn’t see her leave…”“I don’t pay you to see,” I growled. “I pay you to watch. Find out when exactly she left the house.

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 94

Scarlett's POV I didn’t know how to answer Liam's question. His words hung in the air like smoke, thick and choking. They pressed down on my chest until I couldn’t breathe. What could I possibly say? Admit that I still cared for Michael? That I didn’t know what I felt? That I was confused and overwhelmed and caught between a past that never let me go and a present that terrified me?My mouth opened, but nothing came out.In that moment, Liam stepped forward slowly, his eyes scanning mine. His jaw clenched, and then, out of nowhere, his hand clamped down on my shoulder and pushed me back.I collided with the wall with a hard thud, a sharp gasp escaping me as my hands shot up in reflex.“L-Liam… what are you…”His palm was on my throat before I could finish. It felt cold and tight, pressing down on me.“So it’s really true?” he growled. “You have feelings for your damn brother-in-law? That’s the man you’ve been writing about in your stupid novel?”My heart dropped.“No. Liam, please ca

Scarlett's POV The words were right there—balanced on the tip of my tongue, trembling with everything I didn’t know how to say.But just as I opened my mouth to answer Michael’s question, a violent roar tore through the night like thunder. Headlights exploded across the windshield, searing white light swallowing us whole. My hand flew up to shield my eyes, feeling my heart hammering against my ribs.Michael winced, leaning forward with a scowl. “What the hell…”Then I saw it.That plate. That damn license plate. My breath caught in my throat, and my blood ran cold. I didn’t need to read the numbers twice. It was Liam.Panic punched me so hard I couldn’t breathe. My phone started buzzing again, vibrating in my hand like it was trying to escape. I didn’t want to answer. God, I didn’t want to. But I knew better than to ignore him. Especially not now. Not after he had found us.I answered with a shaky breath. “Liam...”His voice was as cold as ice shattering against concrete. “You really

Scarlett's POV I couldn’t bring myself to look at him.The second those words left his mouth—“Will you please forgive me?”—my eyes immediately dropped to the floor of the car like they were too heavy to lift.I wasn’t ready for that question. I wasn’t ready for him.I had waited so long for him to remember me. I had hoped for it, and prayed for it in the dark corners of my room when no one could hear me cry. But now that he was here, fully awake, fully aware… I was the one who felt lost.Too many years had passed. Too many wounds had layered over the old ones.My chest ached in places I didn’t even know could hurt.“I…” I swallowed hard, still avoiding his gaze. “I don’t know, Michael.”His hand stayed wrapped around mine, strong and steady, but I felt the slight tremble in it. Michael's POV I was trying so hard to keep my eyes on the road, but my mind was miles ahead. The soft hum of the car engine was the only thing between us. But it didn’t feel empty. It felt full, like there were a thousand things waiting to be said, and neither of us knew where to begin.Like I said before, I didn’t know what I was doing or where we were going to go. Not exactly. But I knew one thing for certain was that I wasn’t taking her back to that house.I wasn’t driving her back to those people who called themselves family. Not after what I had seen. Not after what they had done. She needed a new home. A safe place. Something clean. Something hers. And I had the means to give her all of it.Everything I owned—my company, my assets, my resources—they didn’t mean anything if I couldn’t use them to protect her. To rebuild what I helped break. If Scarlett was willing, I would give her everything.Just then, a soft voice broke through my thoughts. “Michael… you still haven't told me
