I didn't have Matteo's time ever since the string he pulled on me. He ran away from Italy because he knew it was not safe for him; he had stepped on my toes, and I would never forgive him.

He had spent more than six months in Jamaica where he ran to, and it was beginning to tell on his business. His major business site was Italy, and he probably didn't find anyone loyal to handle his business on his behalf.

“Have a ticket booked to Jamaica as soon as possible. It's high time I finished my task concerning him,” I said to Bojana, who got to work immediately.

“How many extras?” She questioned

“You, Martins, with three other men. That should be enough for his small ass” I responded

“Copy that,”

We got home and I found out that Irena had been waiting for me all day. According to her, she had practiced fighting, read, eaten, and did other things to pass the time because she had been bored all day.

“I'm sorry, I keep getting so many tasks these days. I have to clear them as soon as possi

The next day was indeed tense. I wasn't in the mood to play it soft with Matteo. Although, I didn't want any situation where I would have to kill anybody, the chances were so slim. He would get defensive for sure and try to protect himself at all cost.I kept thinking about the ways I could minimize the casualties if there would be any before Bojana walked in with a document. She had been out all day trying to get everything in place because she never trusts the reports of the men who are not directly under her completely. She would claim that they can also switch to the other side and lead us into a trap anytime, without a warning and I couldn’t agree less.“I have found a way for us to go in without shedding any blood. I am sincerely worried because we are in a foreign land. We need to be discreet as possible so I had to look for all ways and this happened to be the only available option that could work,” she reported, handing the document over to me.“How do I repay you for always

We waited for about fifteen minutes before he woke up after Martins threw an entire bucket of ice on his face. He was breathing like a rat doused with water as he struggled to crawl to his feet when he finally regained his senses.“The biggest mistake you made was thinking you could run away from me forever. I wasn’t even planning to repay you this early if only you didn’t decide to pull a smart string on me,” my raspy voice taking over as my anger level rose with every memories of his stupid shenanigans“Forgive me! I am very sorry! I shouldn’t have done that. I will give you everything you want so please forgive me. I will do everything you want me to do,” his desperate pleas became music to my earsHe shouldn’t have crossed his lane when he knew he didn’t have much backup. I expected him to have several men guarding him but he must have thought the security of the club would be enough to make him untouchable. Sadly, I had access to everywhere I wanted as long as I was ready. “You

    |Irena|I couldn’t bring myself to break down in front of my mother. I had made up my mind to be blunt as much as possible because that was the only thing that would push the truth out of my mother. She could see that I come with some knowledge of my father but she didn’t know what extent I knew and didn’t have any choice but to succumb. I didn’t know what to meet or expect in the box she described for me but I knew that another chapter of my life will be opened with that box. It was a Pandora box that I had to open with caution. “Are you sure things will be okay when you do this? I can help you investigate if it is overwhelming,” Paul said to me as I staggered out of the prison areaI had stopped a bit around the yard to cry my heart out before I went out to meet him but he must have noticed that I cried as he ushered me into the car that was driven by one of the bodyguards. “I know it can be tough but then, it is my responsibility. I have to do this. I will be fine,” I told him,

Paul understood that I wanted to be left alone and told others to back off from the door and give me time. My eyes couldn’t stop producing hot water as my heart wrinkled like a squeezed wet cloth. It was too tough for me to bear. The evidence was clear. There was no room for doubt.“How can this be? How did I end up with such a cruel fate? How did this come to be? You should have stopped our paths from crossing. Father, you should have guided my path and not let me encounter him. I cannot bear this pain,” I cried heavily, holding unto my beating chestMy heart sank deep in sorrow as I tearfully packed the box and grabbed only the album containing the pictures of my father at work with other colleagues. I didn’t want any other person to see what I had just seen till I sort my thoughts.I wouldn’t want to make any rash decision until I find sufficient evidences and there was no how I would be able to do that without leaving Rocco’s villa first. If I attempt to run away here, the men wil

We both knew they were the people after me. I didn’t need to tell her anything, but the fact that I appeared tattered and unkempt out of the blue at almost midnight gave her the idea that something must be up and that I had come to her for protection.“I will take care of them. Just hide well in the basement,” she said to me and nudged me into the stairs. She waited for me to get to a safe distance before closing the lid and covering it with the rug that was placed there. The basement was only known to the both of us. In fact, it took me several years to find out that there was a basement in the house.I heard the door open and the men rush in before Martin's voice sounded amidst the ruckus.“Keep calm. We are not here to cause any trouble. Remember who she is to the boss,” he gave a stern warning, and the disturbing noises ceased instantly.“Good evening, ma'am.”I heard Auntie’s voice finally as she calmly responded to his greeting and asked why she was being bombarded with their me

    |Rocco| I had contemplated over and over whether I should kill Matteo or not but something kept holding me back and it was the words of Irena as I went to Jamaica. I didn’t want her to worry and I found myself holding back a lot because I wanted to be a better person. The thought of coming back to a house where she was absent never occurred to me. It was even crazier that I didn’t know why she left. It felt like a dream. I kept reading the letter she left over and over but nothing got registered in my brain. My world was suddenly empty and she didn’t specify the exact reason why she left. “Find her to the end of the earth. I want her brought back to me. Also, do not hurt her in any way. I will decide what to do after I see her,” I commanded and sent almost all my men out. They camped in front of the house she ran away from, the entire town, and the front of Auntie’s house for several days, but no one saw any traces of her. It was like she disappeared off the trace of the earth.

    |Irena|Paul had to take a leave from work after I went to stay at his house. We kept discovering several things that we knew wouldn’t be good to leave in the open. They were top secrets that needed to be kept out of sight, so we had to be isolated and continue our investigation underground.“We have to look into the family tree first,” he proposed.“I agree. We also need to find out why my father was sent to kill him,” I added.“I met with the man who told us about him then, and he said that he also couldn’t have any access to the case file even though he was one of the top-ranking officers. He said the case files were only accessible to people who were in the highest cadre, and that was suspicious because it had to be a very coded task for it to be that encrypted,” Paul explained further.“We will never be able to gain access to the file at this point, and if we table it as an official investigation, the corrupt ones will make it die down,” I mumbled, and he agreed.“Let’s take it o

She continued telling us about my childhood and several things that had happened until she mentioned my father’s death. That was the part I was waiting eagerly for.“That dreadful morning, we all woke up to find his dead body lying on the ground and he was covered with blood. There was a heavy gunshot fight that night so nobody came out. It was so sudden and unexpected, considering the fact that our town was always a peaceful one. Everyone locked their doors tightly and no one could come out.” She narratedBy now, her husband had joined us in the sitting room where we were discussing. He was busy boiling some medicinal herbs when we first came so he couldn’t stay with us.“What happened that day? I can’t seem to remember that much,” her head tilted to the side, trying to remember the details.Anxiousness took over me as I waited for her to resume. She shouldn’t forget the most important details. If I can know what happened that night, I will know the next line of action.“Isn’t that o

I just realized that we haven’t really discussed Auntie and who exactly she was. She got introduced to me by my mother, and I grew up relying on her when we moved to the town. She helped me so much and brought me to stay with her when my mother got arrested for murder. We didn’t have any situation or opportunity to talk deeper about her, and I had always felt too comfortable to be bothered by all that. All Auntie did in her entire life was cook. She would cook even on days when she was sick to the bones. There was a time she collapsed while cooking because she was doing it nonstop. The funniest thing was that there was no customer to eat all that she had cooked because it was midnight. I came out to have a glass of water and saw her cooking aggressively before she passed out.“You should have just taken it slow. Why were you cooking this hard?” I scolded her as I attended to her in her room“I have to prepare it for them. If not, they might stay hungry the entire year,” she groaned in

The stare of horror on their faces showed how scary my screams and dripping palms were. We all stood there looking at each other, my body trembling with hatred and disbelief. I couldn’t comprehend all that I had just watched. A head banging headache swept me off my feet as my chest rose and fell. Before I knew it, I was on the floor with dim eyes. My body couldn’t bear the weight of oppression from my emotions. I had broken down once again.“Let’s help her up! Irena!” Auntie’s scream barely kept me awake before I passed out finally.I woke up to the fluid being passed in my body and saw the same doctor that treated Rocco during the first gunshot standing close to the door and discussing with the men. I couldn’t hear what they were discussing, and I wasn’t even in the right frame of mind to eavesdrop.“We will talk more about it when she wakes up,” was another line I heard before I slept off again.I woke up to see everyone having dinner, and they all rushed to my side when they saw me

    |Irena|I realized they were trying to distract us as I cried in the morgue. My mother’s body was filled with several marks that had come from bullying and torturing. It was then it dawned on me that all those bruises I saw when I last visited her were from the maltreatment she had been facing in the correctional center.“What a foolish daughter I am. I didn’t even think deeply into what the bruises could mean. How did I end up believing that she only tripped and wounded herself?” several thoughts filled my mind as we headed to the center to get the rest of her thingRocco held me in his arms as Paul drove the car silently to the location. His soft but huge arms were rubbing my shoulder to keep me calm, but I had so much going on in my head even though my mouth was not moving. The guards at the center were taking longer than usual to attend to my request until Rocco stepped in. I had previously told him to wait for me in the car while I go alone to get her things but when I saw that t

“We have to move faster than their investigations. We have done a lot to keep this buried for years. They cannot just come to ruin all our hard work at this point,” one of the men sitting at a round table with sushi and several sashimi dishes glaring at them.“That’s why we have been taking them out one after the other. We cannot allow any loophole in this operation. One of our men is on the way to give us the report on the progress of the operation,” another responded, reaching for his cup for a drinkThe other men released a uniform groan as they released their ties, buttering their frustrations. They had all been unsettled ever since Irena found the files they had been searching for all year. They had turned the house upside down over and over but none of them could find where her mother kept it.“We already concluded that she didn’t have the file. |Irena|I couldn’t believe all that I had just heard. My head tried to process it over and over but it felt like it would explode if I thought about it too much. What in the world happened to Rocco? How did he manage to stay calm in all of that? What was the reason behind him keeping quiet and holding back for so long? I had millions of questions running through my head but I couldn’t bring myself to ask him any.“You smart fool!” those were the only words that flew out of my mouth softly. I couldn’t begin to imagine the pain he had been enduringThe day I showed him the picture of my father, his father was also there. How did he not react? Why did he not explain to me and bore the hatred from me? I had hurt him with my words and actions but he never for once tried to bail himself out.“Why did you not tell me? Why did you not point it out that your father was also a victim of Bruno? How did you even manage to stay in that hell and pretend as if nothing was happening?” my tears flowed

It was around the fourth year of my stay in Italy. At that time, I had bonded with everyone in the villa and became a legal member of the family. My father had started taking me to meetings and made me handle some of his tasks because of how good I was.I couldn’t hide my extreme hatred and disgust at first. It was too hard to pretend. The person that killed my mother was the one I had been adoring, worshipping, and calling father all these while. No doubt, he was also the one that killed my father. He ruined me and my family and also had the nerve to play on my memory.“Is something wrong? You haven’t said anything much or even trained for days ever since you woke up. Are you mad at me for hitting your head on the pole?”Bojana couldn’t stop feeling bad because she thought my attitude changed due to the incident but after assuring her that the accident was not the issue and that I just needed some time to myself, she decided to let me be till I would come around by myself. It took me
