"What?" Belle gasped, placing her left hand which was not affected in the accident on her chest. "What do you mean meticulously planned?"

"We have not been able to get proper footage, but we have Intel that says the truck driver that hit you waited till you got to the red light before driving, knowing that your brake was tampered with," Juan explained with a sigh. "And the only way your break would have been tampered with is bubs staff."

"The only way they would have known what time you were leaving was by a staff as well," Hernandez said.

"Why would they do that? I haven't offended anyone.'

"Obviously to get to me... And distract me from something else."

"And you didn't think to tell me?" She asked angrily.

"You were in the fucken hospital Belle," Juan sighed. "And what were you going to do about that."

"It doesn't matter, you should Have still told me."

"We shouldn't be arguing," Hernandez cut in. "Rather we should be looking for s way forward."

"No, we didn't," Juan said, shaking his head. Belle crossed her arms and bit the inside of her cheek. She stared hard at Juan, hurt clear in her eyes.“You used to act like I was the only one that mattered,” she said softly. “Like I was the only person you ever really looked at.”Juan let out a tired sigh. He rubbed his hand down his face like he was already done with the conversation.“You were the only girl I really cared about,” he said in an exasperated manner, “but it wasn’t anything deep, Belle.”She blinked. “Not deep?”He didn’t flinch. His voice wasn’t mean, just flat. He didn't want to hurt her but there was no nicer way to put it. “I mean, I never felt that way about you. Sure, we slept together. But it was just sex. I didn’t think you had feelings for me.”Belle’s face twitched like she was going to cry, but she quickly pulled herself together. She adjusted herself on the wheelchair, trying to blink back the tears. “And why the hell not?” she asked, raising her brows. J

“What have you got?” he asked after a moment, his eyes shifting over to look at Hernandez. Hernandez didn’t hesitate. “The gardener. The man who was seen walking toward Belle’s car on the day of the crash. We identified him. His name is Marco Bellini.” Juan’s forehead wrinkled, confused. “Bellini?” “Yes,” Hernandez said with a nod. “The tech team ran the security footage through facial recognition. The footage wasn’t perfect—the car was parked near a blind spot—but one of the cameras caught him from a side angle. It was quick, but clear enough. We see him walking near the back gate just a few minutes before the crash happened.” Hernandez swiped through a few images and files on his phone, and turned the screen toward Juan. “Look. Right here.” Juan took the device and squinted at the screen. The image was blurry, but a man was definitely there. “That’s him?” “Yes. It’s a positive ID. His name is Marco Bellini. He’s Italian. Looks to be in his mid-thirties. He used to work for Domin

“What do you mean fired?” Juan asked. His voice was full of disbelief. He walked back and forth across his office, his steps quick and restless. His fingers moved nervously, as if he didn’t know what to do with them. He was clearly holding back anger.Dominic’s voice came clearly from the speakerphone. He sounded calm, like this wasn’t a big deal to him. “I got rid of him. I fired him.”Juan stopped for a second, then shook his head. “Why? What did he do?”“He sold the layout of my estate,” Dominic said simply. “Gave it to one of my rivals.”Juan let out a sharp breath, part surprise and part anger. “Honestly, I’m shocked you didn’t just kill him.”There was a low chuckle on the other end of the line. “Yeah, me too,” Dominic admitted. “Should’ve just taken him out.”There was a pause. Then Dominic asked, “So tell me… what’s going on with him now? Why are you asking about Marco?”Juan’s eyes narrowed. “That’s none of your business.”“Oh come on,” Dominic said. “Don’t you think your old

"You're right," Juan responded with a sigh. His jaw tightened ever so slightly and we walked off. She was indeed right and it had taken him a lot to admit that. The real reason he had even done that wa because he was too mentally exhausted to argue. Then he stopped in his tracks and turned to face her. "What were you going to ask me?""Never mind about that," she said with a right smile and began walking away, but of course, her short legs could only take her so far and it wasn't up to a second Juan was grabbing her by the waist, turning her body to face him. "Talk to me mio Angelo," he said in a low murmur that seemed more like a rumble out of his chest."N-nothing," she stammered, avoiding his eyes. She felt so small in his muscular arms. Juan smiled at his petite she was. "You sure about that?""It's something that can wait," she said, swallowing hard. “You really think he’s going to save you?” Belle asked, narrowing her eyes at Arya. "I’m not waiting for someone to save me," she replied with a tight smile, folding her arms underneath her breasts. Belle gave a cold laugh. “Then you’re even dumber than I thought.”Arya took a slow breath. She looked straight at Belle. Her voice was calm but steady. “I’m not afraid of you, Belle.”Belle smirked, eyes sharp. “Good. You’ll need that kind of courage. Especially when you’re the one he leaves behind.”Arya gave a small smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “You’re funny,” she said. “It’s kind of cute.”Belle tilted her head like she was trying to figure Arya out. Her eyes sparkled with pride, like she thought she’d won. “You really think you’re special, don’t you?”Arya didn’t look away. She slowly turned all the way to face Belle. She stayed quiet for a second before speaking. “If he ever sends me back out into the streets, at least I’ll know the truth. I’ll know exactly where I stand.”

  • The Mafia's Angel   Chapter 46: The Vineyard

The soft morning light filtered its way through the slit in the curtain. Arya woke up feeling anything but refreshed. Still, she was glad that eventually she had slept off and silenced the thoughts in her mind. She stood up, throwing the sheets off her body. Then walked to the bathroom brushing her teeth. Her movements were slow and tired, like her body was on autopilot. She wasn’t really paying attention to what she was doing. Her thoughts were heavy and cloudy. The minty toothpaste foamed up in her mouth, but she barely noticed it. Her eyes stared at the mirror in front of her, not really seeing her reflection. Her eyes looked dull and tired, with dark circles underneath. Her hair was a mess, sticking out in every direction. But she was still here. Still breathing. Barely. She spit the foam into the sink and turned on the water. She rinsed her mouth, then splashed cold water on her face. It didn’t wake her up much. The tired feeling stayed. She got into the shower and let the cook

“No way,” Arya said firmly, her voice serious. “I’d rather just stand here and watch you.” Juan looked at her with a small smirk on his face. “Then sit back and enjoy the view,” he replied, clearly amused. A soft breeze passed through the air, gentle and warm, carrying the sweet smell of ripe grapes mixed with the salty scent of the nearby sea. The air was thick with sun and summer, and every breath Arya took filled her chest with that rich, warm scent. She stood barefoot at the edge of the pool, the tips of her toes just barely touching the cool water. The sunlight hit the surface of the pool, making it shine like glass. Everything around her seemed to glow, like the world was softer here, almost magical. Arya had no idea her day would turn out like this. She didn’t expect to be standing beside a beautiful pool, next to a vineyard that looked too perfect to be real. It felt like something from a dream or a fancy vacation ad on TV. It didn’t feel like her life. Not the one she re

Juan’s hand moved up slowly, and the side of his thumb lightly touched Arya’s cheek. His touch was warm and steady, not rushed, like he was making sure he didn’t startle her. It was soft, careful. When his skin brushed hers, Arya stopped breathing for just a second. Her chest felt tight, like her lungs had forgotten how to work. He leaned in a little closer, and she didn’t move. His eyes were calm, but there was something behind them— something he wasn’t saying out loud. An emotion that he was scared to admit. His lips were parted slightly, as if he was about to speak, but no words came.Arya didn’t know who moved first. Maybe it didn’t matter. One of them leaned forward, and then the other. Slowly, almost without thinking, they both moved closer. The space between them that was just a few inches disappeared completely. Just then Juan walked into the dining."There's more than one kitchen," he said to Arya, noticing her confusion.Breakfast began shortly in s blur, the only thing anyone could hear was the soft sound of knives and forks tapping against plates. Nobody was talking. Nobody was even looking at each other. It was his second that day. He looked calm, like he had no reason to rush or speak. Arya was seated somewhere in the middle. He knew for a fact he'd never regret whatever happened but Arya would even if she had wanted it because everything was too sudden for her. A part of him even wondered if she had regretted that kiss. He could not say for certain, but he wished she had not and that was the exact reason he needed her to leave. It wasn't up to a minute before Juan received a call. He sighed, annoyed by the buzz against his skin from where his phone lay in his pocket. Bringing it out, he squinted at the screen and then clenched his fingers. "Dominic, what the fuck do you want?" Juan said, swiping the ID up and bringing the phone to his ear. "Marco Bellini is dead.""I'm aware," Juan replied, his jaw tightening in anger. His brows then knitted in confusion. How many minutes had it been and how did Dominic know in such short time."I can almost see the wheels turning in your head Juan," Dominic laughed and the sighed. "I had men looking into him, that's how I knew.""And how does this have to do with me?" Juan asked. "Do you know what his death means?" Dominic asked. Juan knew, but he decided to know what Dominic was thinking. "They didn't want him talking?""Marco knew who sent him. He knows the face—.Look at the other men you've caught. He didn't find a way to kill them because they don't know who he is,"

Juan let out a breath he did not realize he was holding once Dominic was out. He was angry that Dominic would even suggest trading Arya off. Even though he knew Dominic could be useful to him. He was not about to take chances with the person that had betrayed him once before. Juan walked away from the living room and went to the backdoor of the house. He stepped out onto the lawn and let the warm air brush against his face. The breeze was soft and light, carrying the smell of sun-dried leaves and flowers that were beginning to wilt. Everything around him was still. The trees swayed gently, and the bushes lining the path stood tall and trimmed, but none of it helped settle the feeling in his chest. He looked around slowly, his eyes scanning every corner of the garden. First, he looked at the stone benches near the fountain—empty. Then his eyes followed the narrow dirt path that went between the hedges and led all the way to the back gate. Still, there was no one there. No sign of her

A woman who doesn't love you?""I will get to know her, and she will get to know me Dominic, who can resist me?" Juan asked, with a raise of his brows. Dominic laughed, while shaking his head..Juan didn’t drop his smirk, not even a little. He took one slow step back from Dominic, keeping his eyes on him the whole time. His hand moved to his collar, where he adjusted it calmly, brushing it like there was something on it he didn’t like—maybe dust.“You’ve said what you needed to say,” Juan told him, his voice cool but firm. “Now leave. Before I decide to throw you out myself.”Dominic let out anogher short laugh. It was dry, not the kind that came from humor. It didn’t feel friendly.
