Lent dropped obediently, and the flimsy chair creaked under his weight. Lent was large and hard-muscled, his short but shaggy black hair looked uncombed. He didn't have an ounce of fat on him.

Storm wasn't used to seeing as men as hot as this, having never really met one on her side of the town, except for her ex, who had left her to pursue his basketball career at a university, thousands of miles away from her.

Curtis had been her high school sweetheart whom she could do anything, totally anything, even if included her right kidney. He had been a home of comfort to her whenever her step mother and step sister decided to turn on their devilish mode and wreak havoc on both her physical and mental state.

Curtis had been her lifeline. He had transferred to their school in their eleventh grade, and they had hit off immediately. An act which was obvious to everyone since Curtis was the new hot male student and she was the most beautiful girl in their class, had been voted that way since their seventh grade, something that had irked her step sister and her minions to no end.

They had been the best couple, had been crowned so at their last prom dance in the school. They had had plans for each other after school, to attend the same university. It had worked for she had been given a half scholarship to the same university that he had been admitted, but her step mother had denied her that chance, and she had lost Curtis.

Last she heard of him from the gossip crew in her town, he was dating her stepsister, a month after he had dumped her. It’s been a year now, but she never forgave him for that. Lent was different though. He had proved to be such a sweetheart for he'd quickly overcome her uneasiness when she had first stepped into the bar.

"I can't stay in here," Lent protested. "What if they come back?"

"You're not going anywhere, my friend, until we get that bullet out of you." Kaden mentioned, before he snatched a blanket from the sagging sofa and dropped it over Lent's lap.

The fight had in some way left Lent in only his polo and inner shorts. But Storm’s attention hadn’t been drawn unto that until now.

A smile slithered across her lips as she thought that perhaps Kaden had done so, because he thought he needed to protect her from a Lent in his naked glory. Lent, admittedly, was ... supersized. She thought, feeling her cheeks get hot in slight embarrassment.

"I thought I'd be away from the door maybe a minute." Lent's deep black eyes filled. "What if someone had gotten hurt? Or killed? It would have been because of me."

"No one got hurt but you, you big softie." Kaden's voice took on that gentle note that made Storm shiver deep inside herself. "You frightened away the bad guys before anything worse could happen."

"If I'd been at my post, instead of playing around at the bar counter, I would have blocked the door, and none of the bullets would have gotten inside." Lent said, and Storm furrowed her eyebrows, wondering how in the earth was he going to block the bullets without getting killed.

"And then you'd look like a cheese grater," Kaden said. "And be dust at the end of my sword. I like you, Lent. I don't want that."

"Yeah?"

Storm set down the first-aid kit she'd fetched from the cabinet and perched on the edge of the desk, her hand on Lent's unhurt shoulder.

"I don't want that either." She said, serving her own dosage of comfort.

Lent relaxed a little under her touch-he needed touch, reassurance, especially when injured or frightened. Storm wanted to give Lent a full hug, but she feared hurting him. She kneaded his back instead, trying to put as much comfort as she could into the caress.

Lent grinned weakly at her. "Hey, you're not so bad yourself, for a human."

"I guess I should say thanks." Storm muttered, her mind reeling over Lent’s statement. What had he meant by referring to her as a human? Wasn’t he one? Or was he teasing her? That would be it. She figured, feeling herself relax once again. She wasn’t still at peace with this side of the town even though they had hot male species.

Lent squeezed her fingers in his pawlike hand, and she smiled.

"This is going to hurt like hell, big guy," Kaden said. "So just remind yourself who you'll have to answer to if you turn bear on me and take my head off."

"Aw, I'd never hurt you, Kaden. Even if I didn't know Casper would rip my guts out if I did."

Casper. That was the name of the second guy. Storm committed it to memory.

"Good lad. Remember now. Storm, hold the gauze just like that." Kaden mentioned to Storm.

Storm positioned the wad of sterile gauze under the ragged hole in Lent's shoulder as Kaden directed. Kaden sprayed some antibacterial around the wound, reached in with the big tweezers he'd dipped in alcohol, and yanked the bullet from Lent's flesh.

Lent threw his head back and roared. His face distorted, his mouth and nose lengthening to a muzzle filled with sharp teeth.

Blood burst from the wound and coated first the gauze, then the clean towel Kaden jammed over it. Lent's hands extended to razorlike claws, which closed on Kaden's wrist.

Storm bit down a shout, watching the film-like display happen before her. She opened her eyes and shut them intermittently, perhaps wanting to remind herself that she was not dreaming.

Kaden pressed the towel in place, unworried. "Easy now."

Lent withdrew his hand, but not before a blue snake of electricity arced around his Collar, biting into his neck. He howled in pain.

Damn it!

Storm leapt to her feet, unable to stand it any longer. What the hell was going on? She mumbled; her wide eyes still stuck on Lent. She had thought that she was the only one in Shapper’s town with special abilities.

Storm pressed her thumb and index finger to the middle of her forehead, stepping back one bit, feeling a headache coming already. She wished she could unsee what she had just seen.“Storm, are you okay?” She heard Kaden ask, and shook her head.“What are you people?” She asked, wondering whether the likes of this people were why this part of the town was not deemed fitted for normal people. Does this mean that she should be staying here?“We...are...” Lent was saying when Kaden cut in sharply.“We are people with special abilities. If that pisses you off, you should leave, and of course don’t mention it to any one.” He said, meeting Storm’s stare.Storm, seeing his accessing gaze, shrugged.“You don’t have to send me away. Mr. Kaden. I also have some special abilities, and I think I can help Lent.” She stated, batting the surprised Kaden's hands aside and pressing her palm directly to the wound. Folding herself against Lent, she held her hand flat to his chest.“What are you doing, St

"The gift isn't that strong. It's not like I can cure terminal diseases or anything. I can boost the immune system, heal wounds and abrasions, and speed up the healing of broken bones. I couldn't have magicked the bullet out of Lent, for instance, but I could relieve his pain and jump-start his recovery." Storm replied, relieved that she was a bit far from his reach."And you don't think this is something we should know about?" Kaden asked, his eyes still stuck on her.Storm shrugged in reply. When she looked at Kaden again, his eyes had returned to that sinful, summer-lake blue, but his stance still said he could turn on her anytime he wanted. If Storm hadn't been intrigued by Kaden the moment she'd laid eyes on him for the first time in a bus station, the man would have terrified her. Yes. Their meeting today in Mr. Tim’s office had actually been the second time she had seen him. She remembered now. She hadn’t been able to recognise him when she had waltzed into the office earlier

Storm scoffed when she heard Kaden’s reply.Stick around? The man must be nuts to think that she would take up visiting this side of Shappy town as a hobby because of him. She thought. It was best she left here already before he started to talk about her working as a bartender in this crime infested bar. After all, he already paid in full, Mr. Tim’s debt.“Aren’t you a little curious about who or what we are? Some people are actually dying for this piece of information, and here you are pushing it away even though it is offered on a free platter.” Kaden mentioned, folding his arms across his chest, his blue eyes boring down on Storm. His reply caused Storm to snort. “Well, I am not interested. I will live just as fine as I was before coming into this bar today. I am not a journalist or among the paparazzi who would do anything for a piece of this juicy information you are offering me.” She pointed out, her eyes already scanning the room for the exit door, even as she asked herself if

It was true that Storm didn’t know who exactly Kaden was or why he was suddenly interested in hearing her problems, but it was heartwarming to know that at least someone cared enough to know about the nightmares that wouldn’t let her sleep smoothly and in peace for the last three years. Her father had found out about it at first, but his love for her step mother, Jess, had blinded him to the fact that she needed warmth, that she had needed his care more than ever. Her father marrying Jess had begun Storm’s misery days. It was like the woman was shrouded in ill fortune and bad news."I really don't want to talk about it right now," Storm finally said, shaking off the earlier feeling of pouring out her feelings to Kaden, who was definitely strange. Since knowing about the uniqueness of Lent when they had attempted to remove the bullet which had lodged into his arm, she had a feeling that her life was about to get a tad bit interesting. And she welcomed it. It was high time something o

After Kaden’s heroic words, Storm straightened and turned, putting her back against the door, her stormy eyes making him wild with wanting. “You know I’m grateful for what you did for me,earlier at the bar drinking room. Thank you for saving me.” She mentioned, deciding to express her thankfulness and curb her stubbornness for the now. If he hadn’t covered her with his body, perhaps, she would have been hurt, either by the gun or shattered glasses.“Aye, and your undying gratitude is what I live for.” Kaden said, his eyes never leaving hers.“Really?” She looked him up and down with a hint of a smile.“Sure it is.” He heard the amusement in his tone, but he couldn’t keep it out.Storm’s brows moved upward, her smoke-colored eyes looking straight into his heart. Storm and the girl whose name Kaden had overheard, Lucy, said good-bye to Kaden in front of Storm’s house. Kaden pulled Storm into a full embrace, to the shock of the two females-unable to hold himself, inhaling her scent. He liked that Storm hugged him back, not fighting this particular way of saying good night. Her body felt good and warm, the strength and softness of her making him want to hold her for hours. Avery’s hug was not nearly as intoxicating, and her embraces were always accompanied by a flood of perfume. Thinking of Avery, a girl friend of his, made him disentangle from the hug and look around the environment waringly.Avery was very possessive of him even though they weren’t mates. But that hadn’t stopped him from sleeping with her even though she was Lent’s cousin. She had been among the few females who had followed him despite the cloak of shame that had covered him after he had been banished from the pack for a crime he didn’t commit. His movements were restless, angry, a young werewolf impatient to make his place in the world. “They invaded our territory, or as well as. They put our females in danger. I say Mako is right. Storm could feel her heart pounding hard, but it was more out of excitement than fear. She should be afraid, the bird was a true raptor, but it was magnificent. It had black eyes! Round, shiny, very intelligent black eyes. She stared at it for two full minutes. That wasn't normal, she was certain. Very slowly, so she wouldn't startle the creature, she backed across the room to the desk where she kept her phone. Still looking at the bird, she googled the images of the bird, biting her lips intermittently as she waited.Strangely, the bird was observing her just as intently, an intelligence in its gaze as it watched the phone beep occasionally. When the page opened, Storm glanced at the image of the harpy eagle. The eyes were round and shining with intelligence, but they were not black. The eyes in the picture were a bright amber with a black pupil. She let out her breath slowly. Something was wrong with her bird.‘You aren't blind, though, are you?’ She sent the words, not even kno

  • The Mafia Lycan's Obsession    A Big Bird

After Storm was done eating, she thanked Kaden, and let him have the plates when he stretched his hands to collect them. To hold herself from jumping on him, and demanding that he put her out of her sexual misery, she stood up from the bed and sauntered to the window to look at the forest, and clear her immoral thoughts. He had joined her to eat, and for each time his mouth had closed over a morsel of food, she had jerked subtly, as if the mouth was closing over her twin orbs. In a large oak tree, plenty feet away from her, a bird flapped its mighty wings, drawing her attention. A smile swept past her lips when she became aware that she could sight its distinctive features. She was not the same Storm of a month ago. She was different now, considering the amount of trainings she had submitted too.The bird had a round facial disk with a very pronounced ruff. It wasn't an owl but it was large. Very large. The unusual bird could easily weigh at least twenty pounds. She stared at it

Storm walked into Kaden's treehouse and was immediately struck by how it seemed larger than usual. The wooden walls, which should be plain and simple, were adorned with colorful murals and hand-painted designs. One wall even showcased a sprawling mural of a sunset over a peaceful lake, with vivid oranges and pinks blending into each other. And another wall had a charming depiction of a forest, complete with playful animals like squirrels and birds, all brought to life with bright, cheerful colors. The room was filled with natural light that filtered through the large windows, which had been decorated with flowing curtains in soft, earthy tones. The curtains swayed gently in the breeze, adding a sense of movement to the scene. The wooden floor was covered with cozy rugs that added warmth and comfort to the space.A large, comfy bean bag was positioned in one corner, surrounded by soft pillows. Next to it was a small bookshelf brimming with colorful books, their spines lined up neatly

Storm’s mind kept conjuring up provocative images, as she and Kaden walked hand in hand around the clan. The kiss they had shared in her room still tingled on her lips, still kept heat in her blood, still made her hunger for more. She inhaled sharply when Kaden turned and stared at her, his eyes brimming with the emotions that she was sure was playing out in her own mind. For a second, she feared that he might have peeked into her dirty mind, but then she remembered that they were not bonded yet, not in that sense. It brought her swift relief which came with a coating of abashed-ness seen in the coloring of her cheeks and necks, something that wasn’t lost on Kaden who was battling to hold on to his honor. He cussed at himself for closing her lips with his earlier, knowing what could happen from there. But she had been speaking, and her luscious mouth had been like water in a desert land; he had been parched so much that he couldn’t have been able to help himself. And now, the stirr

All through the week, Storm only concentrated on the books Kaden had given her, or rather on the first book she had collected from the pile. Jutul had done the same, concentrating on the second book he had picked. Both had only taken breaks when they wanted to eat or when they wanted to train with Casper for an hour. To assuage Kaden’s caveman jealousy, all the reading had been in the dining downstairs, and yet they weren’t close enough to whatever the books were on about. They weren’t close to the end either, and the transcribers were doing a poor job, despite Jiraq’s input sometimes. It was then that Storm had learnt that Jiraq wasn’t done with the book either. ‘What are you doing with one of the hardest books in the pile?” had been his first question when she had solicited for his help. He had gone ahead to pick up a smaller book, written in English, for her and Jutul to start with, but she had declined—she had grown attached to the old book. And she had vowed to bring it to a fi

Storm groaned tiredly; under the full weight of the knowledge she had been absorbing for the past four hours. Kaden had been true to his word, and with the help of Jiraq, had bundled more than thirty books which smelt of oldness into her room this morning, just before she dressed for school. “For those written in old language, Jiraq was kind enough to let you have his transcriber, so that you can better understand it. You can check them out after classes today.” Kaden had said, when he had stepped into her room with a fellow whom she knew went by the name, Micheal, Liam’s younger brother. She had found out right after Liam’s recuperation weeks ago, about the wicked action on the young fellow who didn’t look a year older than her. The first book on the pile had gotten her attention after the duo had left the room, and picking it up, she had decided to peek at a page, then return to her preparation for school. But a page had turned to two pages, and then five pages, until school was

Storm was chatting with Lucy and Justin, in their phone group , around a time when she should be sleeping, when she heard her name being droned in her ears. “S-t-o-r-m” She furrowed her eyebrows, and looked around the room she shared with Kaden sometimes. There was no one. The voice sounded familiar, and until she felt the eeriness in the room, she didn’t know who it was. The vampire. She got up from the empty bed, and sauntered toward the door, needing to get to Kaden as soon as possible, but the door wouldn’t budge. She stamped her foot on the floor out of frustration, as fear suddenly took root in her mind and body. Where was he when she needed him? Why hadn’t he spent the night with her? She wondered, never minding that she had been one to ask they sleep on separate beds tonight, after he had returned from his meeting with his people, after she had returned from seeing her friends off with Lent. The voice called for her name again, and she shuddered before she could help it, h

  • The Mafia Lycan's Obsession    Love&Lies

There was a stark naked silence in the room after Jutul’s declaration. So stark was it, that Storm felt her ears ringing with deep silence, deep silence and an unclothed unbelief. They were lying? If she didn’t know of Jutul’s gifts, she would have berated him for speaking against her friends. But she knew. She knew he was telling the truth—there wasn’t a need to lie. And she still was finding it hard to believe. Lucy and Justin had planned a lie, and had come to convince them of it? All for what? To gain information on what was going on in the clan? Was their school even on break? Then, the silence was broken by Kaden’s voice which had descended to a certain chillness that informed Storm that her mate was angry, very angry, at being made a fool of. “Lent, place a call to the school’s authorities, and find out if the school is really on break…” Lucy’s dark laughter interrupted his statement, and brought Storm’s attention to her. “So y’all would rather believe Storm’s newest friend

    Of course they wouldn’t. Storm thought, looking at Lucy squarely for the first time since she had entered the room. Her friend was still bubbling in age-old anger, and was still carrying a grudge against her.And since, Storm knew she couldn’t do much about it—because what Lucy was demanding was unattainable—she let the latter think that she wasn’t bothered by it. It would help with them leaving earlier. Having seen what exactly was at play here, what evil forces were at play here, she wasn’t about to risk the lives of her friends. She wasn’t about to have their blood on her head, because she wanted them to be included in every facet of her life. It was better they thought she was against them; it was better they believed that she didn’t value their friendship.“So, why are you here, Lucy?” She schooled her face to a cold aloofness, unfazed when Justin let out a cuss word, whilst darting a glance between Lucy and her. There was a minute silence, where Lucy scanned Storm’s features;
