Meanwhile, Alexander Torres was seething, pacing back and forth in his study. The news that Riley hadn’t taken the opportunity to escape from River baffled and infuriated him.

He had been preparing for an all-out assault to rescue her, but her refusal to run complicated things. What was keeping her there? What hold did River have on his daughter?

He slammed his fist on the desk, his frustration boiling over. “Damn it, Riley,” he muttered under his breath. “What are you doing?”
