I felt Thorne's grip on my waist tighten painfully, I was already finding it difficult to breathe.
'Oh please let this be a bad dream' I cried within me and closed my eyes as tight as I could, but when I opened them, Thorne was still behind me and clutching my waist with an enraged strength.
That's when I began to hear noises. Swords were clashing in the distance and people were screaming.
"Do you hear that princess" he said coldy in my ears "that is the sound of Victory"
"Thorne, something's happening on the ship. Let me down so we can check what it is" I said with a deep breath, trying to move away from the edge and engage him in conversation to distract him.
"You don't seem to understand, do you? You must be a rather daft princess. How were you ever to rule an empire such as this?"
He yanked my hair back, sending a searing pain to my scalp. I couldn't help letting out a wounded cry. "Thorne! You're hurting me! Why are you doing this?"
"Because you are too weak to rule MoonShire. This Pack deserves a better leader. What were you planning to do when I married you? Throw me aside while you and your father controlled the affairs of the Pack? Never!"
"Just push her off already!" A firm voice came from behind. It was a woman's voice. I couldn't turn to see her face, but I knew who it was. I could tell by the breachwood scent of her perfume. The lady in red.
"The men have killed Vander and all the members of the Royal family. We are ready to take your orders" she continued
My heart nearly seized. I couldn't believe my ears.
"Are you sure they're all dead. I want no witnesses. I want no mistakes" Thorne said with not an ounce of sympathy in his voice.
"Don't you trust me my love. The work is done. It is our throne now. All hail Thorne Blackwood, Lycan King of MoonShire"
"You bastard!" I cried, tears streamed uncontrollably down my face and the icy wind hit me harder. "What have you done!?"
"Cave! Father!" I cried out to my brother and father, but there was no response.
"No one can hear you princess. But don't worry, I'll make sure your story will be a very interesting one"
"What story?" I asked, my voice shaky and trembling. I could barely speak with my hair pulled back so tightly and with the pain of his clutch.
"That the wedding ship was attacked by the brutal sea pirates of Forlorn Pack. I fought desperately alongside the King, but they were too strong and killed the Royal family. Princess Elowen couldn't bare the loss of her family and jumped over the ship"
"No!" I screamed "No! Let me go!" I wriggled with as much force as I could, but Thorne was stronger. His large arms that once cuddled me in warmth were about to throw me into the depths.
"Tell the men to start destroying the ship and tossing the bodies overboard. We will arrive in MoonShire by the small boats as planned"
"As you wish, your majesty" I heard the lady in red walking away.
"Please don't do this Thorne!" I cried, desperate, but the cruelty in his voice made it obvious that he had made up his mind.
In one hefty move, he spun me around to face him. I looked directly into his eyes and stared at him, confused. I searched for any trace of the man I thought I once knew, but all I could see was hatred.
He leaned in closer to my ears, I could feel his every breath on my bare skin.
"I promise to take good care of MoonShire for you Elowen. So you can rest in peace... Your majesty"
Before I could respond, before I could react or even process what was happening, he shoved me backwards at the chest with brute force.
My body lurched as I stumbled. The edge of the ship's railing digging into my back. I tried to hold on to something, anything, but there was nothing to hold on to, his push was too strong.
When I hit the water, it felt like slamming into a wall. The icy waves swallowed me, stealing every breath from my lungs as I plunged deeper. Through the water I looked up and I saw them.
Thorne and the lady in red.
He held her and they kissed each other passionately while I was drowning below. How did I not see this. How did I miss the signs? Who was she?
But it was too late for any of those questions, it was too late for me.
The weight of my wedding dress dragged me down fast. I heard splashing above the water. They were throwing the bodies into the sea. I attempted to scream and my tears mixed with the cold water when I saw my father's body sinking beside me.
His face was pale, expressionless. I had just seen him smiling at me this morning. How could things have gone so wrong so quickly?
"They will pay for this father, I swear on my last breath". But I was already giving up my last breath when my locket began to glow. The locket my father gave me was still hanging on my neck and glowed through the water.
I finally gasped and water filled my lungs. The pain was sharp, like stabbing knives. My body began to twitch and jerk and I convulsed till all I could see was the glowing of the locket.
Then darkness.
---------
I opened my eyes and found myself lying in a shallow stream, my torn and shattered wedding dress clinging to my body.
I was surrounded by trees and by the scent of it, I knew they were Cherwood trees, the sacred trees of MoonShire, our symbol.
I managed to raise myself up above the water, but instead of me to be dripping wet, I was completely dry.
Everywhere was quiet asides the birds chirping and the sound of the flowing streams. The place was serene and beautiful.
"Where am I?" I asked, wondering if this was Havella, the Wolf heaven I always read about in books at the Palace library.
I noticed my locket was open and no longer glowing as I last remembered.
"Welcome Elowen" I heard a voice behind me. I spun around to see who it was. In front of me stood a woman. She was clothed in a silver robe, her long white hair flowing over her shoulders.
She was so beautiful, I could barely take my eyes off her. Beside her, there was a white wolf. It stared directly at me, not with agressiveness, but it looked at me like it knew me.
"Who... who are you?" I asked, still dazed "and where am I?"
"Elowen, Your mother once gave me water to drink when I was dying and trapped in the human world" the white wolf spoke, not minding my questions "she nursed me back to health and helped me find my way back to the spirit world"
"My...my mother?" I didn't understand what she was saying. How did she know my mother?
"I couldn't save her Elowen, but I can save you"
The wolf walked closer to me. It seemed her feet weren't even touching the ground.
"Do you want to be saved, Elowen?"
"Saved?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper "I don't understand""I am willing to give you another chance to live Elowen" the woman in the silver dress spoke. Her voice was soothing, it almost sounded like music was being played on her every word."I am Loweda, the moon goddess and I am offering you a new life" A new life? Another chance? Another chance! Of course I would take it. Another chance to live and rain hell on Thorne and his whore for what they did to my family. I would never pass up on such an opportunity. "With all humility, goddess Loweda, I will take it" I had already begun to picture myself holding a sword and thrusting it through Thorne when the white wolf spoke again."You have made the right choice Elowen. I will erase your pain, but with it, I will erase your memories also" My memories? How was I supposed to avenge my family if I couldn't even remember who I was?"No, you can't do that please" I begged. "You must start a new life, unburdened by the past"
My instincts flared up and I jumped down from the horse with the little strength I had garnered."Run to the camps over there!" The guard pointed towards a hill overhead. "They will take care of you. Go now!" His sword and that of his partner were fully drawn.I sprinted as fast as my feet could carry me towards the hill where he had pointed. Behind me, I heard growling and howling, like a beast...like wolves. I heard the slash of claws and the soldiers scream, but I didn't look back. I couldn't look back. What kind of world am I in? It seemed no one and nowhere was safe. The sun was already setting when I saw lights and torches at a distance. I smelt fresh bread and something else. I didn't know what it was, but whatever it was, my stomach rumbled so hard to it that I had to move closer. As I approached, I noticed tents set up and lots of horses tied to wooden sticks dug into the ground. A woman noticed me and called others. Soon I was surrounded by many people from the camp."My g
There was silence for a few seconds after the man yelled that he had an order from the King."Well? Have you gone dumb? What are Damien's orders?" princess Montanne snapped impatiently.I stole a glance at her and regretted it quickly as she caught my eyes again with a disgusted look on her face. The man cleared his throat, not even looking in Montanne's direction."King Damien" he continued, with emphasis on 'King' to hint to Montanne that the fact that she was his betrothed mate didn't give her the right to address him by his first name "has requested to see Merchant Rhea immediately"Montanne's eyes widened in shock as Rhea made her way to the door."Don't you dare enter that room!" Montanne yelled, stopping Rhea in her tracks. Her chest was rising and falling as she fumed. "The King is in meditation and must not see anyone. I am the one attending to all the Royal matters and I command Merchant Rhea to leave now!""Princess M
Damien's POVI stood and watched over the large expanse of land before me.BloodHowl KingdomJust as it's name was, it was built on the blood of thousands of wolves. Strong warriors who laid down their lives to protect their families, and now it was mine to protect. My father had handed his empire to me even though I was not the first son, and not the rightful heir. But I was the only son who fought side by side with him, almost losing my life more than a few times.I was the only one who didn't spend all my time in the Harem, impregnating women that were not my mate, but rather I studied the politics and war strategies that BloodHowl was run on.My thoughts went back to the day my Father was on his death bed and called for all his sons. I was the last son and nowhere near the throne, but he called me forward and placed the Lycan crown on my head.I could almost physically feel the fury of my elder bro
MONTANNE'S POVI came from nothing. No wealth, no power, no throne.I was the princess of the WhiteCrescent Pack and we were once feared by all the packs across the seven seas. Our name was spoken with great honor by our allies and sent chills down the spines of our enemies. But that was a long time ago, I wasn't even born yet.Our forces slowly began weakening and rogues started infiltrating and plundering our resources.Unfortunately, the very day I was brought into the world, there was a massive rogue attack on our Pack and they took all we had. They raped the women and killed many of the wolf warriors. My mother died protecting me. It was almost as if the moon goddess had turned her back on us.My father mated a Luna from a strong Pack who became my stepmother, but even that couldn't save us from the mess we were in.For me, it only made matters worse. I became a princess who lived as
Elowen's POVI stared at the man standing in front of me. My eyes ran through his red hair and piercing eyes which remained fixed on mine.He was...beautiful, if that was even an appropriate term to use for a man.He had long lashes and a round smooth face that was perfectly sculpted. His slender body was so close to me and he was tall enough to look down on my hair and I had to tilt my head slightly to meet his gaze.I squeezed my robe...I mean...his shirt as close to my body as I possibly could. My heart raced so quickly, for a moment I thought I could actually hear it beating. The room began to feel colder all of a sudden."I asked you a question, and you haven't answered me" he said stepping even closer, forcing me to move back."I...I was told by the other girls that this was my room" I managed to say "I think it must have been a misunderstanding"A deep rich laugh burst from his lips, completely unexpected and taking me by surprise."Those girls can be very mischievous" he said,
Damien's POVI continued to walk further down the hallway, searching for Montanne's chambers. She had requested to see me quite a while ago now, and I was sure she would have been impatiently waiting for me.But I wasn't disturbed at all. Deep down I was glad I couldn't find her room. I needed some air. I needed to think.Montanne always had one request or another when I went to meet her, but right now, as much as I hated to admit it, another woman was on my mind. That girl.Who was she?No woman had ever spoken to me like that in my entire life. Not even when I was a prince, and the last one at that. But she looked right into my eyes and insulted me. She obviously had no idea who I was, no idea that I was the King, meaning she wasn't from here.Could she be the servant Rhea requested to stay in the Palace? But that couldn't be possible. The robe she was wearing was made of pure silk and embroidered. Those were not clothes a servant could afford. Then who was she?And why did I feel
ELOWEN'S POVIt didn't take long before I was surrounded by guards pointing their swords at me.Montanne wrapped herself tightly to cover her body as the guards came in."Help me. Help me please!" She screamed as tears streamed from her eyes. She looked so helpless and defenseless, not at all like the woman who was just about to strangle me."Please help me! This thief came into my chamber and started searching for what to steal" she sobbed profusely "when I came out and she saw me, she wanted to attack me before I screamed"A slow knowing smile curved at the corner of her lips, so small that only I would notice. The guards looked at her with so much pity, like she was some fragile egg.I was about to open my mouth to defend myself, but I quickly shut it when they glared at me with all their fury. Before I could process what was going on, I felt two hefty hands grab my arms and I was being pulled away from Montanne's room."No! I didn't do anything. It was a mistake" I pleaded, but my
Hares' POVI pinned her to the wall and helped myself to a taste of her full lips as my hands trailed beneath her dress. She kept shifting and moving, checking to see if anyone was coming, which made me enjoy the fun of the moment a lot less."Hares" she muttered in between the breath my mouth barely gave hers "what if someone sees us?" her breathing became heavier. I pulled back for a while, locking my eyes unto hers. That was the seducing power. The one thing I learnt in WhiteCrescent Kingdom before I was forced to follow Montanne here to protect her, as her personal guide, and even though she hated to regard me as such, her half brother.I was probably becoming a nuisance among the women in WhiteCrescent, thus my punishment, by my mother, the Queen, of following Montanne as a guide...not servant. Even though she loved to address me as such.BloodHowl.I hated everything about this place...asides their women. Their women were beautiful, especially the women at the maid's quarte
Elowen's POVI was in a white flowing dress and I stood in front of a tall broad chested man. His blonde hair fell over his shoulders and his green eyes stared into mine.I looked back into his, enchanted. But that enchantment broke suddenly when he grabbed my neck and squeezed it tightly.I struggled to release myself from his grip, my nails scraped against his skin, but he held on tighter. I began to feel my last breath leaving me.He leaned in closer and whispered into my ears, his clutch still tight on my neck."So you're still alive, Elowen?" He said menacingly, his every word brushing air against my skin "I'm coming for you soon, and this time, I'll make sure you don't survive" My neck snapped as he strengthened his grip.I woke up panting and sweating, holding my neck as though it would fall of my head from the impact. It took a while before I could recollect myself and finally convince my mind that it was just a dream.Elowen? Elowen...Something seemed so familiar about that
Montanne’s POVI trailed my fingers from his lips down to his chest. His heavy breathing brushed lightly against my skin.He was all mine—the Mighty King Damien—and I would die before I let him go to another woman.I stood up and covered myself with my robe. He seemed tired, so I let him sleep and get some rest while I took a bath and got dressed.I left him in the chambers quietly and went to the courtroom.Today was a special day because I was expecting some of the court ladies from BloodHowl for a tea party.I was going to be the Luna of this pack, so I obviously needed to mingle, get to know the women of the court, and gain their favor. To become a court lady, a woman’s husband had to be part of the King's chambermen—a close group of advisors he relied on.If I gained favor with the court ladies, they could convince their husbands, the chambermen, that I was right for Damien, ensuring there would be no opposition on their part.I would have a very smooth ride to the throne, right
Elowen's POVI felt the warmth of his hands lifting me up from the cold floor and carrying me out of the prison walls. It all seemed blurry now. Maybe it was just a dream.I tried to sit up and look around, but that slight movement only sent a searing pain across my back. I winced and laid back down."Easy now honey" a stern voice came through from beside my bed. I turned to look at who it was.My vision was still a bit blurry, but I could make out his orange hair and golden eyes. Those features seemed familiar. And that voice...I felt my hands on the bed. It was soft and the sheets scented of roses. The room was dimly lit and I smelled burning incense and herbal medicines. This was certainly not the maid's quarters.I blinked rapidly trying to clear the haze from my vision. The man beside me shifted and I felt his golden eyes watching over me."I was really worried about you Elda." Even though I recognized the voice, it came softer than I remembered."I'm sorry I couldn't protect yo
Damien's POVI needed to find a way to control myself, but each time my eyes rested on her body which was scarred and stained with blood, fury rose within me like a storm."Who are you?" She asked, her voice was barely above a whisper and her lips trembled.Who was I?Of course I was the King of BloodHowl, the ruler of a pack greatly feared across the lands, but she didn't need to know that. That wasn't what she needed. Right now, she didn't need a King, she needed a protector. She needed me to protect her.Without answering, I lifted her up gently, careful not to aggravate her wounds. Her arms were fragile and wrapped around my neck. I suddenly felt a strange sense of possessiveness stir within me.She was light, too light. It was as if she hadn't eaten anything proper for days. The mere thought of it angered me further. Had she been treated so harshly in my own Kingdom?I carried her through the dimly lit halls and ignored the whispers and stares of the servants. They couldn't dar
