ELIAS’ POV

I stretched as I concluded my work for the day in the study. It had been hours without seeing Scarlet and I was already missing her badly.

I rose to my feet, and arranged the paper works that I had signed and worked on, then headed towards the door.

I pulled the door knob and walked out of the study, heading towards the room, but before I climbed the stairs which was leading to the room, I caught the smell of burning food.

Was scarlet in the kitchen? I walked to the kitchen and found her turning down the gas cooker, then she placed the pots somewhere else.

“Shit!” She cursed under her breath and I chuckled in a low tone as I walked up to her.

That was cute to me because I could tell she was making the food for me, but then who knows what she was thinking about that made her to let the food burn.

“Have you lost the skill to cook now?” I teased her as I hung my arm around her neck.

“Stop it.” She pushed me away lightly as she still wasn't pleased with the fact that she had j

"Woah…" As Scarlet stepped into the water, a large wave suddenly rose from nowhere, huge, and beautiful, and some of the people on the beach were wowed, as they caught sight of it. "Did you see that? It's a sign that…" Elias was saying when he suddenly noticed Scarlet was no longer by his side. She was running away, giggling, with her flying hair covering her face momentarily each time she turned to look at Elias."Hey! That's not fair!" He shouted, also smiling, and he ended up chasing after her."Oh my God! Oh my! No, no! This is not fair. You're a whole lot faster than… aaaaah!" Scarlet screamed, as Elias wrapped his arms around her. "Did you see those waves? I mean… damn, the water is beautiful. The light from the setting sun gave it different colors, and it just… Scarlet, we have to scuba dive." Elias said, mentioning his initial intentions. "Scuba dive?" She asked, looking at him like he wanted to murder her in the water. "Yes, the water is calling for you. That's why it mad

SCARLET'S POV“Are you okay, Sylvia?” I asked as I got close to Sylvia who was lying on the bed.“A little?” Sylvia responded weakly, and then coughed out.The flu had really gotten to her and how she had caught it all of a sudden was surprising. It must have been giving her a warning sign, but she didn't pay attention to it.Elias had left to handle some issues in the pack on her way to the house. Just after having a really nice time together, who would know we would wake up to a few hustles and bustles.I made a little herbal medicine that I knew how to make, so hopefully, it should work on her as soon as possible.“Here. Drink it up.” I handed it over to her and Sylvia sat up, then sipped from the cup I mixed it into.“Good. Just have enough rest. I'll be in my room, getting settled.”“Alright sis.” Sylvia responded and I walked out of her room.I laid on the bed, then shut my eyes, resting from the whole stress I went through after heading that Sylvia had caught the flu.It was so

SCARLET'S POV“Where's this place?” I muttered under my breath, looking baffled.I was back to being a child, and I was with five other girls that looked like they were also my age.It was more like I was taken back in time, and I had no idea of what memory this was, because I do not remember having such memory. The next thing I noticed was that we were all in a cage which was dropped inside the river.“Ahhh!” We all screamed out for help, but there was no one to help us.Then we began to hit the steel cage with all our might, together, and the cage door seemed to be weakening the more we hit it together with force. But we had to hurry as the cage was beginning to sink deep into the river, and we would not have enough strength to push against the cage door anymore, neither would we be able to shout for help.Soon, the cage door began to sink in faster. “Oh, no… oh, no.” I screamed out and then I found myself on the bed in my room, sweating heavily.“Are you okay, Scarlet?” Elias aske

ELIAS' POVThe man was attracting trouble if he kept on doing that. Why would he want to meet with Scarlet? Not now when she has so many things going on with her. The last thing I needed was for someone to make her feel worked up or more burdened.“Tell them to send the man away.” I instructed him.“Alright, prince.” He responded, then nodded his head.“Hold on.” Scarlet voiced out.I stood up, wondering why she wasn't in the room and had come out again.“Why aren't you resting, Scarlet?” I asked, concerned about her.“Please don't send the man away. Allow him to see me.” Scarlet spoke, ignoring my question.“What? Do you know the man?” I questioned her, exchanging baffled glances at the guard who had come to inform me about the guard.“I don't know him, but I want to see him.” She insisted as she walked down the stairs.“No… no Scarlet, I don't think you can see him. How do you expect me to be comfortable with you seeing someone you don't know?” I expressed my disapproval. Then she m

ELIAS' POV“Look. I'm not okay with this. I don't feel comfortable about you moving closer to him or hearing any more thing he has to say.” I said to Scarlet as I held back her arm. Then she turned to me and exhaled sharply through her nostrils.“Elias, I'll be fine. In fact, I think I need you to bring him into an enclosed space so we can talk better.” Scarlet suggested. What has gotten into her all of a sudden? Why would she just change her mind and desire to see him. The weirdest of them all is wanting to see him in an enclosed space.“Don't worry, you'll be with me as well. I just want to give him a chance to explain. For him to have waited this long and insisting on seeing me, it takes determination and something serious.” Scarlet opened my eyes. She was right. There's no one who wouldn’t be curious, and I also ought to give her a chance to hear the man who claimed to be her father. After all, it would be her joy if what she accuses him for is not exactly what what it was.But it

SCARLET'S POVEven Elias’ words weren’t enough to help me hold myself together. I had just heard a shocking truth, and the more I thought it couldn’t be, the more it made sense to me that it could actually be the truth. But why would my mother do that to him, and worse, lie to us, making us think out father had abandoned us. I knew how many nights I cried, cursing at my father for abandoning us.I stood up slowly from the chair, withdrawing my hand from Elias’.“What’s wrong?” Elias asked, looking concerned.“I…I just need some time alone.” I responded, then left their presence. I walked out of the common room and headed out to the river; a place where I would be able to get myself together, and let out my feelings the way I ought to.This river wasn’t just an ordinary river. It was the river where my mother’s ashes were poured into. On getting to the river, I fell to the ground, close to it, staring blankly at it.I couldn’t tell how I was feeling, and no tears fell out of my eyes l

ELIAS' POV.I kept on staring at Vincent, Scarlet's father, who was talking to Scarlet. She had seemed to warm up to him, and I found I wasn't comfortable with it. I threw open the fridge, and poured water into two cups for the both of them, before going to serve them. They paid little acknowledgement to me, as they kept on talking, and although I wanted to stay, I knew I had to give them some privacy. They had spent many years apart, so they obviously had a lot to catch up on. They needed their time alone. I left their presence, and went up the stairs into a room, but couldn't shrug off the troubled feeling I felt. Vincent didn't look like a man I could trust. Why was he finally coming to Scarlet after all these years? He could have easily reached out to Scarlet, but he didn't. The more I thought about it, the weirder it seemed. I tried to reason that he didn't want to return when she was younger, but Scarlet was older already. About two years ago, she stopped being a child. Also

SCARLET’S POVActually, having a father wasn’t that so bad. It was cool even as he is a hybrid, and that he is willing to teach me how to tap into my powers as a witch. But rather than keep him staying in the common room, it was best for me to bring him over to stay in the pack. That was more sensible, and easier to have access to him than having to walk miles into the woods to get to him.“Father, I think it’s time you left the common room. I have set up an accommodation for you, in the midst of everyone else. You and your pupil will begin to live there.” I informed my father, and a bright smile came up on his face.Elias was right there, sipping his tea while checking out something on his phone. My news caused him to look up at me in a shocked manner, but I ignored his look and focused on my father’s happy expression. My father rose to his feet, moved closer to me, and then held both my hands with his eyes expressing gratitude.“You don’t know how happy I am to have heard that. SCARLET'S POV. Egg after egg dropped, filling the space, and I couldn't help the feeling of raw panic eating me up. I had ever seen such a monster with different traits. It has pincers like scorpions and made loud noises. It buzzed like a bee, and was so solid even though it was made of ants. It was laying eggs which was really unbelievable, but what scared me was that I didn't know what would happen if the eggs happened to hatch. What creature would we see there, and how would they eat us up?I took in deep breaths, as me and Elias were pushed together. I couldn't help myself. It felt like I would suddenly scream, and go out. The eggs fell against us, and it was then I knew I couldn't help myself. “Elias!” I called out, as my hand closed over his shirt tightly. My mouth opened wide, and I fought for breath, but couldn't find it. “Scarlet, Scarlet, breathe!” Elias said, looking at me intently, as I hit my chest, trying to breathe. My eyes filled up with tears, and it felt like I w

RALPH'S POVEstelle looked at us all, enjoying the looks of shock on the faces of the men. Then she walked over to me, and bent, placing a hand on the table, and the other behind my chair. I wouldn't deny the ice in her eyes. Everything about her seemed cold, and although I hated her being that close to me, I did not budge. I stared at her right in the eye, without fear. “You must be having a hard time, right?” She spoke softly. “Well, I've had a harder time.” She said, then straightened up, without taking her eyes off me for a second. She seemed to built for revenge, and in her eyes were the echoes of pain, and cold. She took a few steps backwards, before giving a smile that didn't reach her eyes, then she turned away, walking out of the hall. The elders all looked like they had been holding their breaths, and they let it out quickly, looking at each other. “I believe we've discussed all we need to discuss.” I said, getting to my feet. Sitting around, doing nothing was something

RALPH’S POVI dressed in my room, trying hard so time wouldn't run out on me. There was a council meeting scheduled for the day, and I had to attend instead of Elias. The council elders had sent in multiple envelopes, all demanding to see Elias. ‘Where is the Alpha?’‘What is the Alpha planning on doing?’‘Is Alpha Elias aware that things are becoming even worse?’They had sent in all kinds of questions, and I understood their impatience. It was all stemming from the fear Estelle had woven into their hearts. A knock came on my door. “Come in.” I said, brushing my hair. If I didn't look my best, they would assume Elias didn't know what he was doing, and that he had just put some random person on his throne. I really hoped he and Scarlet would make it back alive, and quickly because I was in no way fit for an Alpha. A maid walked in with toast on a tray. “No, no, I'm fine. I didn't ask for breakfast.” I said, but she didn't retreat. “Before leaving, Alpha Elias gave me strict ord

SCARLET’S POVWe fell mercilessly, hitting the rough edges, getting bruises all over. I landed on the ground with my head in an awkward position, before straightening up, and looking at Elias, who was sprawled on the ground, breathing hard, as he looked up at the sky. I looked around. Apparently, we had fallen in some kind of hole. Due to taking quick hasty breaths, the dust managed to get into my nose, and I sneezed hard. We heard the strange buzzing sound, and I covered my mouth, only for another sneeze to come true. I sneezed again, and Elias scrambled to his fist to cover my mouth. I held his hand there, willing myself not to sneeze. Eventually, I let out a tiny one, and with my eyes watering, I looked around, taking Elias' hands off my mouth. Everywhere was dusty. It was probably because we had fallen through it. All the dust seemed to be settling. “What do we do now?” I whispered, giving a little cough, as I tried to swipe the dust away from settling on my face.“I think w

THIRD PERSONIt wasn't just Elias who felt the tendrils of fear squeezing his heart. Scarlet felt it too, and it felt like her chest was on fire, just from wondering what would happen. The mere terror that the clanging sound generated made her heart beat faster at every clang. It was too much for her to handle. She looked around repeatedly, and the soft wind whipped her hair into her face, which she brushed back with both hands. Already, her palms were cold and sweaty, and the anxiety was just too much. She needed the suspense to be over. “What do you think that is?” She asked Elias, still looking around, trying to guess what could be the reason for the weird sound. “I have no idea.” Elias replied, as the sound grew louder. “We should… I think we should move on.” Scarlet suggested, wanting to make a move. It was so obvious that whatever was approaching them with the weird sound wasn't single. It wasn't two, nor was it three. It was definitely a lot.“I say we wait.” Elias replied,

ELIAS’ POVI couldn't understand the fear and anxiety filling me up. It wasn't the first time Scarlet and I had been on a journey, or been faced with dangerous creatures, and people, but still there was that nervousness. That whispering voice that told me my fears were not twisting lies in my head, but trying to bore the truth into me. Something really awful could happen, and I might be unable to escape it with Scarlet by my side. Either way, I hated the feeling. The whole place spoke, and gave an aura of power, dark power, and it boasted too easily of how we could get killed. It was the main reason for my fears. The man looked at us, and even without the features on his face, I was somehow able to tell that he had a smile on. Then, I looked at Scarlet. She also seemed lost in thoughts, and it would be the best time to try to convince her, but she would despise me for it. It was better I carried out her wish, than to let my fear get the best of me. “We are willing to try. After

Scarlet and Elias couldn’t help but admit within themselves that they were overwhelmed by fear. Elias knew how dangerous the journey was, and this made him even more scared. “Well, hello.” The man spoke, in an eerie tone. “Who the hell are you?” Elias managed to question him, as they were both wary of him. “A question which actually isn’t the major concern. But I’ll tell you one thing. If you dare try to escape, because it’s only expected of you to want to run from me, you won’t be able to get to the world beyond.” “Uhn!” Elias exclaimed softly, not knowing whether to believe the man or not. “Yeah. To make things more understandable for you, I am the passage to the world beyond, which only means without me, you can’t go into the world beyond. So, now, I hope you know that it is only unwise of you to run from me. And if you have enough time to waste, you can actually run from me, and when you realize you’ve been wasting your time, you’ll come back, and definitely meet me here.” Bo

SCARLET’S POV It was dawn already, and was time for us to set out for her journey. If it was an outing, I would have been so excited about it, but then, it was a dangerous journey which we are just going on for the sake of a friend which we have taken as a family. Even from the name, the world beyond, one would have known that it isn’t a place one can take lightly. For Elias to have been so adamant on us not going there, it was evident that it wasn’t like other dangerous places that we have gotten ourselves into. “Are you certain you are ready?” Elias asked me as we headed towards the woods. “I am more than ready.” I responded to him, not wanting to sound discouraging. Even if I wanted to sound discouraging, it shouldn’t be from here when he could easily turn back and by then, whatever I do, might not make him change his mind, anymore. We didn’t have to walk too much before we got to the woods, and that only made me feel a little anxious. But then, I had to stop myself from getti

She might be able to help us with an information. You know she was captured by Estelle. She must have seen a lot which would be very helpful for us.” “I understand. Just look for better ways to convince him regarding something than hurting yourself. Well, let me leave you to go over to meet him. I’m sure he’s so annoyed with both you, and himself. You’ve got to make him feel he isn’t making the wrong decision.” “Alright! I’m on it.” “He’s in the garden, by the way.” Ralph informed me, and I smiled lightly. “Thanks.” I appreciated him, then I stepped out of the room and walked towards the garden. On getting to the garden, I saw him standing and gazing at the sky with both hands in his pockets. I knew he was going through a lot, and had a lot of responsibilities burdening him. So, all he needed was things to go a bit eas
